My phone: Optimus V
ROM: Quattrimus AOKP ICS
Carrier: VM
I'm new the the forum so I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I scoured the forums and Google for an answer to this to no avail. I used MiniTool Partition and I followed your guide on how to partition your SD card. I reflashed AOKP hoping it would do something but it didn't. When I go into Titanium Backup it has my partition listed. On the place where I got AOKP from, it says you cannot use any 2SD app (App2sd, link2sd etc) because Quattrimus will supposedly automatically realise your partition. How can I use my partition when the only way people say I can is via using a 2sd app? Thanks for your time and help.

So it my ext2 memory should be added to my total internal memory?
For the most part I would think so...an ext is an imaginary portion of a sdcard....ext2,3 and 4 could better be explained by Wikipedia or any Google search....if you want to partition a sdcard, use a custom recovery ie..clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.7 or amonra 3.0.6, cwm partitions to ext4 by default while amonra partitions to ext2 by default but has options to upgrade to ext3 than ext4 in the recovery context menu....you can use a windows program to partition as well but your sdcard probably came preconfigured to NTFS and you need partition to FAT32

Install ClockworkMod and partition SD Card you will find the tutorials here also.
ext2/ext3/ext4 is a File System type and its a logical partition created in your SD card which is used and extension of your internal memory. Initially this File System is used in Linux since android is developed based on Linux so it uses the same file system.
For more information about partitions you can google.

hey is there anyway to make it bigger i have moved all my apps to the sd card
Use S2E if you are using CM7. You must create an ext3 partition for S2E to work. Download it from the market.

Either use gparted (desktop linux app), or clockworkmod. Set swap to 0 if you use clockwork. The ext partition must be the first partition, if you use gparted.
Make sure youre using CM7, not all roms support an sd-ext partition.

Every guide/source I've ever seen says you must put the fat32 partition first, followed by ext partition, and optionally followed by swap partition. I've never bothered trying it any other way but you're definitely wrong about having to put the ext partition first. It might work in either order.
Also just about any of the custom ROMs on this site will support an ext partition, but S2E specifically only works on CM7.
yer thanks all ive done it know i used a partition wizard that deals with linux stuff and work i know have the ext3 at 500mb.
and im using CM7.1 RC
thanks all

how you move your apps to ext partition?
your ext partition should be in /sd-ext (but mine is /data/sdext2)
for my case, i failed to partition through ROM manager.
but I managed to partition manually using mkpartfs and also other alternative way is through ClockworkMod Recovery
with move to SD card option, I moved apps to SD card. I heard that it is enough to move to ext partition. is there any way to move apps to ext partition?
What are you using to move apps to the partition? Its not enough to just create a partition... The FroYo way of moving stuff doesnt need a partition at all (Apps -> Move to SD).
You need another app like link2sd or darktremor's apps2sd that actually makes use of partitions.
I done it in caynogenmod but it didnt works in official froyo ver. Here i used DTapp2sd tool. And how can i know what partition i have (ext/ext2/ext3/ext4) ?
And Thanks for ur answer.

how did you partition your sdcard? did you use your custom recovery? if so:
if you have amonra, it should have first partitioned it to ext2. then it gives you the option to convert ext2 to ext3, and then ext3 to ext4. if you have used one of these options then it should be self explanatory.
if you have clockworkmod, you should have ext4 (as clockworkmod only supports ext4)

if you are moving apps to SD using setting->application then you are moving to fat32 partition which is in .android_secure folder of your SD card.
to move apps to ext partition you have to use apps likes link2sd, DT's apps2sd, s2e

Hi.
I use link 2sd
Bt can't see my second partition of my sd.
And link2sd say not mount ur sd ext. So how to mount sd ext
Any one help me. . Step by step.. Plz..

Link2SD:
What is needed:
- Root Permission
- The second partition on the SD Card, and both MUST PRIMARY
The first partition is the default storage of data on the SDcard. The second partition (which will be created) is a partition for storage applications for Link2sd.
download "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition" on the PC, then plug the sdcard in the PC (u can directly use the phone, or card reader). by using this program, agan no need to format, partition, or delete data in the beginning, to create a new partition.
Install and open minitool, select the drive which will be partitioned sdcard, select resize the unallocated area. for PRIMARY, NOT logical. Free partition size is up. klo above 2GB FAT32 file system should pake. FAT32 support is generally on all phones. APPLY, and then turn on the phone.
(for more secure data back up anyway in the SD Card)
- Install Link2sd, have mounted, select FAT32, restart again and Tada!! Applications can be moved to SD, ga who need to use complicated script
Good luck. and must have successfully ...
Well, after partitioning it,connect it to a pc and open mini tool partition wizard. If it shows that you have a sd-ext partition, then theres a partition in your sd,no doubt. If Link2SD still shows that it cant mount sd-ext,then you are a victim of that bug.I get the same error when i try to use link2sd too.Use S2E instead
Ok i will try..

I had the same problem.I did this and it worked. It's simple just create the partition again
First backup all the data of SD card
then install Amnora recovery as mentioned in GTR rom by neko95.
Reboot into recovery
Then in partition set value 0 in both partition n swap, you'll have a blank SD with it's full capacity
Then again partition as your wish.
Then copy all the backed up data.
Then open S2e
it'll be able to detect the created partition
Hope i helped!!
yes, use amonra...clockwork's default to ext3/ext4....forget which one or maybe both....if you want specifically ext3 for whatever reason that might be, use amonra than partitition than upgrade from ext2 to ext3 in the partition portion of amonra recovery
ok, i think to have undestanded.
When i have an hour free i try to do this, with amonRa.
Thank you a lot

I believe CWM defaults to ext4. If you didn't make any other partitions, then your SD card partition structure should be as follows now:
/mnt/sdcard, FAT, primary
/sdext, ext4, primary
Try using link2sd's menu to recreate mount scripts, & choose ext4. Also, make sure you're still rooted properly, and still have expected su access.

I recollect facing the same problem.I guess the problem isn't with link2sd its got to to do with the fact that the stock kernel doesn't support ext partition try flashing a custom kernel that supports ext partition.

Ah, good catch! I didn't notice that.
If you don't want to flash a new ROM, you can format the 2nd partition as FAT, and link2sd has the option to mount that the same way as others.

I don't understand. Do you want to keep stock, or flash a custom ROM? If all you want is to use link2sd, you shouldn't need to flash anything.

Backup your sd card on PC.
Do factory reset
Re partition ur sd card in cwm
Start phone & install link2sd before any other application
Use ext4
If ur kernel doesnt support ext 4
