Development Work on the DroidX2 - Motorola Droid X2

With the new Paranoid Android port out (props to csking33 [sorry if that's the wrong name]) it has come to my attention that i haven't released an update for any of my ROMs that I have been working on for awhile. With that being said, I am wondering what is it exactly you all want me to be working on. Keep in mind that although I'm quiet on the forums here, I'm usually very busy working on the ROMs and or other development for the X2.
If you don't see an option listed, please let me know in this thread about any other development related projects you think I should focus on.
The poll is multiple choice, but please keep in mind that I'm only one guy.

I personally would like to see kexec working if you believe its actually possible. CM9 is nice how it is although it COULD be better. CM10 probably wouldnt be much without kexec anyway. And AOKP is just another flavor of what we already have. I would prefer you work on kexec so we can get all these ROMs living up to their potential.
Thanks again for all your contributions to this community.

I'd like to see kexec so we could have a stable cm9/10. But any option is good for me.

The road block is hardware acceleration and kexec allows for that.
If I had to chose something else, I'd love a Dragon themed rom

I pretty much agree with the other posts. I've stuck with your CM7 for a very long time because it's full featured and very stable. I want to see CM9/10 get to that point, so kexec all the way.

Kexec all the way. I'm going to work with some other people to see if we can work out the issues left with PA.
Anybody that wants to help can by the way.

I agree that kexec is the key. I know that is a much more involved project, so some aokp rom would be cool too. Especially since you say it wouldn't be that hard.
Of course I appreciate anything you choose to work on.

I'd say kexec even though I no longer have an X2.

Kenex I believe that you should focus on.

Kexec 100%

Kexec. Kernels are more important, in my opinion. Especially with one borked as bad as ours. Speaking of which, you may be able to enlist the help of cvpvs, as he was donated an X2 a while back to help with a recovery (which fell through).

I voted for kexec and cm9/10. In order to truly improve cm9/10 you need kexec. so that first then refine rom. thank you for all your work by the way!

/me sets mode -m
Kexec That is the golden key. Once we have that, the world becomes our oyster.

[Q] More development options?

I consider myself a ROM junkie and am running RazrX 1.1 now. But I don't want to give up my Razr for the Nexus or whatever. I have gotten so bored from waiting around that I resorted to dicking around on my GFs Sensation.
Bootloaders are a *****, aren't they? I hear the Sensation has a pretty good ICS port going.

Can totally relate. As you can tell from my device history, I'm used to flashing something new every other week, or at least milking my device for the best possible performance.
I'm actually more of a fan of custom kernels than ROMs, since there's so much kanging and "speed improvements"/"custom scripts"/buzzword featurelist nonimprovements that a lot of new-to-new-ish ROM chefs will include without necessarily knowing what they actually do, if anything. Kernel developers tend to have a bit more of a handle on what's actually going on at both hardware and software levels by sheer necessity.
No discredit to ROM chefs, have the utmost respect for people putting their hard work out there, it's just personal preference. I can just accomplish most of what I want on rooted, deodexed stock - or CM and MIUI are good options. So yeah, that bootloader bothers me a lot, I'd honestly expected it to be unlocked by now.

Cm9

If cm9 is on the touch pad which uses the snapdragon just as we do, and we have a ics leak why can't we have cm9 yet? I know when I had my epic 4g touch like a day after the samsung ics leak dropped someone built a cm9 rom... Please don't flame. I'm mearely asking a question in the q & a thread... Thanks!

I'm guessing it's the lack of kernel source.
But they don't have kernel source for ics on the epic 4g touch either... They built a tweaked Gingerbread kernel to run cm9. And I couldn't tell a difference it ran a amazingly

I was thinking that it was the lack of kernel source, but I don't know based on the modified GB kernel post. CM9 would be awesome though. I like to keep things as stock and clean as possible. I don't even put aftermarket parts on my car LOL.

you know what devs we need here , the devs from the htc leo/hd2 that took a windows mobile phone and turned it into a development phone that could run any 5 OS like a champ, I had CM9 on my hd2 for 2 months before I got my Note and I ran AOSP ICS prior to that for a month and it's smooth as hell. We never had any kind of actual source for anything for it, actually devs were porting everything from the nexus one/nexus s/sensation/evo/incredible/desire hd and made it work , hacking all kinds of kernels , so yeah there were issues when a new port would come out like camera not working(most common issue) but never the less it always came around, now our biggest downfall is the fact that samsung decided to use two different processors with the two versions of the note, if they only would have used the same processor it would have definitely be a different ball game, it would be one forum and all the devs for the n7000 and the i717 would be working together and we would be using cm9 from the great dev imilka from the hd2 forum.
Agreed. I wish I knew how to dev. On the original evo we had great devs also... These devs just rather sit around and wait for the easy way I guess. Idk.

I just stated my opinion ... Oh well!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
well I'm no dev but I'm working at trying to make the necessary changes and hopefully get imilka's cm9 booting up in our notes, but I'm confident that with the help from imilka I can get it to boot and hopefully have a working cm9 soon.

Please keep that attitude to yourself, so as to not annoy the devs who do things for everyone, INCLUDING YOU for ....

I just wonder if we can start building kernels or if we can only use certain ones once kexec is working fully.

Cant Wait for JB
I personally don't think jumping from CM7 to CM9 to CM10 (JB) is the right way to go about things. DZK is doing it right though IMO. He got CM7 stable enough again, IMO; To move on to CM9. He's been working hard and made what 5 Alphas and now on a Beta? (Don't know much anymore as I am on AT&T Atrix 2 now) But thats dedication and loyalty to the X2 for sure. I know he mentioned of a CM10 and JB but I as well as other and I'm pretty sure DZK mentioned, it will be awhile before it's stable enough to release. Now the Kexecis where it's at...if he can crack that, I may personally have to come and dust the X2 off as I have for the Paranoid Port and AOKP port as well as the Beta CM9. With everything else going on, again my opinion would be to keep anticipating JB and hope everything else gets worked on first to grasp stability on these great ROMs that have already been pushed out. Just my $0.02 on the Topic.

I agree with you. I think we need kexec working first. We are already running ICS on a Gingerbread kernel which isn't ideal, but it works. Running Jelly Bean on a Gingerbread kernel might be worse. But this is all in theory, obviously. Who knows, it could be super smooth. But with kexec working on the DX2, its guaranteed to work right. I really hope dragonzkiller can get it working. Especially before I upgrade to something else. It would be a shame if he got it working after everyone has moved on.
I agree I'd much rather get kexec working and have a fully functional CM9 than a half baked, unstable CM10 due to our locked bootloaders and no work-around(kexec).

Well here's to hoping that the kexec gets sorted out so we can keep up with those higher end phones.

More vzw gs3 roms?

I understand our boot loader is locked still but being worked n by amazing developers. But why aren't there more roms with no touchwiz like the desensed roms on the resound? Also there isn't much theming yet :/ Is this because developers are waiting to flash custom kernels?

I am sure they're working on it. The phone just came out, and currently with the locked bootloader, it would be based on your current version - it's rumored an OTA is coming just around the corner to fix bugs from the release, so perhaps they are waiting for that?
Quit *****ing and do something about it seriously. Creating ROM's is a tedious process. Be lucky that they are working hard cracking our phone and not giving up. I don't have the patience or the skill or know-how. Two options here
1) Be patient and quit spamming
2) Learn Java, Learn C, make rom
If neither of those appeal you:
3) GTFO XDA

The kernel included with 4.1.2 AOKP by th3bill has nearly the same features (except video recording, since we can't use atrix drivers).

The Photon and Atrix seem to be extremely similar hardware-wise... what changes would need to be made to the Atrix 3.1 kernel source to make this functional for Photon? From what I can tell, the camera, fingerprint scanner, and radio are the differences...

Hi guys,
I wanted to do that later but it looks like it will take me some more time to finish Olympus kernel. So I decided to start port for Photon. Since I don't own Photon device, I need couple of volunteers who are willing to break their phones. Also I would need someone who would manage bug tracking and possible hardware differences. I can barely track what's going on Atrix threads, so I need someone as a proxy, who would report me how the things are going. I'm looking for someone who can be considered at least advanced user with a lot of spare time. Also regarding potential testers, I'm sure there are different Photon revisions, so it would be the best if there was a one tester for each rev.

Hi guys, I just got photon second hand and have been doing a lot of reading to find out what the best thing I can do with it is.
Is the current work using the new open source tegra driver?
If that's the case, I would think it would be almost necessary to skip ICS & JB.
