garbled distorted calls - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I am having trouble with distorted or garbled phone calls. I have wiped and reflashed the latest Mean rom. I've also flashed the latest radio and PRI, as well as updating profile and PRL. I cannot get this problem to go away. Some times it is clear, but mostly it is garbled.
Anyone got any ideas? I thought about an APN problem, but I haven't messed with APN'S since my old g1 days and I am not even sure the evo lte uses them (or even where to find them) .

The last radios and pri update was buggy. That's why you have distorted phone calls, it has nothing to do with Rom. Hopefully , sprint will fix it soon.

Hmm...its very garbled. Basically unusable. Although I haven't heard about bugs in the update, it doesn't seem right. If everyone had distortion like I am experiencing there would be a revolt.
Thing is, at times it is clear. I flashed an old nandroid and it was gone. Then went back to mean rom and it was back. Wiped and reinstalled mean rom and it went away for a bit, but now is back.
Even stranger, calls to my Google voicemail are perfectly clear. Turn around and call some one and it is garbled.
May call sprint and see if it is a configuration issue. Pissing me off.

And it's clear again. WTF??!!
Wonder if these darn tower upgrades are responsible.

The last poster read my mind, as I experienced that here in LA. As soon as Sprint started upgrading the towers in our area, the voice garbling began, and after much complaining to customer service, Sprint sent me a free AIRAVE.

I'm having the same problem plus sometimes when I make calls even to landlines they say I sound garbled. I hang up call back now they are garbled. It all happened after radio and firmware update. Why does it work for some and not others?

Well, I could never get it to go away. I.reverted to stock and s -on to prepare a return. It is crystal clear now.....hmmm.....I may try to re-root and see if the distortion comes back.

Ok I think I have fixed it. You must dial ##72786#. It will ask for a password you can get it by getting msl reader from the play store. Reset and your good to go! No more garbled voice. It basically resets Prl.

I can tell you this has nothing to do with rooting, roms or the like. I have a completely stock EVO Lte that has never been rooted or even plugged into a computer! My phone is completely stock and I am having the same problem with my phone. If I make a call and the call quality sounds good to me, it will sound bad to the other person. If I make a call and it sounds distorted (garbled), it sounds fine to the other caller.
I am getting completely fed up with this phone. I called sprint SEVERAL times to get a replacement because of the wifi/gps problems, and I insisted that I did not want a refurb phone. The rep said it would be a new phone (after many HOURS of phone time with Sprint CS) What they sent me was a refurb, and a POS at that! Scratches, loose back cover, the red around the camera flaking off! I am not going to accept it and will be returning it tomorrow at the Sprint store! I am going to call them while at the store so they can "hear" my newest complaint!
I tried to swap this phone within the first 14 days, and the Sprint people insisted that it was just them working on the towers, so I waited. Then after that 14 days window was passed, all the CS reps said was "if you would have returned it within the first 14 days..." Makes me sooooooo freakin mad!!!
If your reading this, and have the same issues, it is your phone. PERIOD. Call Sprint or go to a retail store and complain, complain, complain!!!

It's the Network
My wife and I have both been having this issue a lot recently. Me on my E4LTE, and her on the Galaxy SII. I really think it's the network, not the 4G. We started having the issue right after Sprint started their HD Voice upgrades. Sometimes calls are perfectly clear, sometimes their slightly garbled, and sometimes they're completely broken up. I'be been through the ringer with Sprint's Tech support with no luck at all. I think I'm going to switch to Verizon once our contract is up (which is a shame because I was very happy with sprint and the EVO up until this problem).

Can't hear out going calls on Airave.

Sprint seems to be no help...
I installed my airave last night, today I have full bars where normally I would have 1-2, I can receive calls no problem....but if I dial out all I hear is some random techno robot sound....
Sprint had me update my prl and profile....then reset my airave...
It's back up cause I def have full bars, so I tried to call out....same thing...
Anyone else experience this? Oh, they also had me change my network settings from automatic to Sprint only....

yup...never had it happen on inbound calls ever. only outbound...and as previously mentioned I was also suspicious of EPST being messed with...I'm pretty sure that would come about when I'd force roaming...or take it off of forced roaming. I don't recall exactly...but I know it happened on AOSP and Sense roms.

I had that issue as well. Couldn't figure it out. I called sprint & one of the rudest reps I ever talked to explained situation & they said it was the internet connection. Had me go test it and everything was good except quality of service was to low. So she said I was just screwed cause I probably won't call my internet provider. I appreciate the tip on the voice quality settings, I will try that.

I'm probably gonna have to do the same too. Sprint told me it could also be your internet connection. Read page 14 or 15 of the details in my Free Sprint Airave thread if you like. Forgot where exactly I wrote it.

late text messages

Its anybody else receiving text messages late? Mine come in on time sometimes but when it doesn't it ranges from 7 to 40 minutes late. I know its sprint since I don't have this problem on the VZW prl. I called and they said they put out a ticket or something like that. Is this happening to anybody else?

Welcome to the ****ty Sprint network
The fix? Get a Verizon or ATT phone
I'm really considering it but I'm just not sure about the monthly raping I'll receive
At least youll actually be able to use the data you pay for on Verizon
I would do the same but thankfully I am in an area with Wifi most of the time so it doesnt matter that the data speed is only 40kb/s and no 4G service.
I wish my speeds were that fast smh
Google voice integration did this to me. Disabled integration and went back to normal.
Also been having problems with missing/late texts ever since i linked it to google voice.
no, but sometimes mine will come with the timestamp way later than it actually is, which is also annoying.
So sprint called me asking if I noticed any improvements, I told them to call me tomorrow so I can test it out....its the same no improvements
Yea just stay with the Verizon prl I have not left it for months

I was gonna post a thread about this too but I'll spare the clutter. This started happening to me since I flashed the latest ota with leeroid tweaks 3 days ago. I flashed the radio too. I was suspecting it was the update or radio or something... There was 1 text I got yesterday 3 hours late.

Not receiving calls randomly

I was curious if this was something that would be Rom related or phone related so I know where to start trouble shooting.
People lately have been telling me they are calling but I am not receiving calls. In my house my phone gets a horrible signal anyways and sometimes goes into roam but I have been at work and people have said they are calling me and I don't have missed calls.
I am on Vipers latest and have the current radios installed as well. I have done a reflash and still the same.
Not sure if this is related but I am also sometimes not getting text messages till later times. I got a text two hours later last night and most of the time it seems when people text me over 160 it takes some time to get the 2nd part. I can send and receive just fine with others but the over 160 text will pop up maybe 10 minutes later.
Sorry if this is jumbled to anyone.
Lotsa drop calls here too, switched to CM mod 7 and it's fixed. I think it's sense related when you have 3g/4g/wifi working
There is two possible problems to this, one is your rom. Try flashing a stock rom for a few days and see if it clears it up.
Second, and most likely, is just bad network connection. You say your phone bounces between roaming and sprint at home, when that happens you will always miss calls and get texts late. Nothing much you can do about that except get an Airave from sprint or switch carriers.

You don't have to buy one, just call sprint and tell them you have bad signal in your house, and you are thinking of switching unless they give you an Airave. They should give you one for free without much hassle.
But try the stock rom first just to rule out any software problems with the rom you are on.

Busy signal type noise after making a call.

Sometimes as I'm making a call and am disconnected due to poor service or hanging up too quickly, my phone will get almost a busy signal. It won't stop until I've rebooted the phone. I'm rooted on viperrom but it happened even when I was 100% stock. Any ideas on what's causing it or a possible fix? Thanks!!

I can confirm that my wife's phone has been doing this too, and hers is not rooted. I suspect it's a software issue, but the fact that it doesn't stop, when you shut down the phone, makes me wonder if it's deeper. I'm trying to decide what to do, because I was about to cancel the insurance, but not if i need it to replace a defective phone :/

This happens to me more than twice a day. Almost all calls placed from my house give me this tone. I'm past my 14 days, so I cannot return it for the sgs3. I honestly do not want to return the phone, but this is just ridiculous. Random 3g dropouts, an annoying tone on 50% of calls, and my phone will become unusually sluggish throughout the day. All of these problems are fixed with a reboot. It happens on stock and vipermod. I'm not sure about aokp or cm9. I cannot place a call with either of them. Anyway, I cannot believe a fix has not been released by htc/sprint. The xda community already has a fix for wallet. Sprint and HTC need to do something. My next purchase will be a nexus phone, after 5 HTC devices.
Wiretap
Poorly implemented federal wiretap. Go about your business as usual.
I got my phone on release date and never once had that happen until tonight. I noticed my signal was jumping in and out of roaming and everytime I tried to make a call, roaming or not, it did the busy signal thing. I called Sprint and they were looking into an issue with the tower I pull from. The same tower has gone down 4 times in the past 8 months, and everytime it goes down it is 3-4 days without service for us, it is getting really annoying.
Definitely not an HTC or evo specific issue. Had this happen to me a few times and the wife's s3 and a viper in the last few days
Turn off the roam guards. I had this same problem when I was on vacation. Once the roam guards are off you will be able to connect and not get that annoying busy signal.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I made a thread on this not knowing this one was existing.... I believe I pinpointed it only happens when and if u place the call your signal bars drop to none at that exact moment it does something within the modem and cause this tone of death I call it....
Nothing fixes it but a reboot.
HTC BETTER REALIZE THEY ARE PISSIN PEOPLE OFF, THEY BETTER FIX THE SIGNAL Issue before people return this thing..other than that love the phone..
I truly believe half of it has to do with slow network and weak towers Sprint is just trying to catch up after all these years

My phone is doing this with the roam guard off, and when I have 6/6 or 5/6 bars. Service at my house is very spotty, and 5 out of 7 calls will fail. In areas that I have good service about 50% of calls fail. I never had this problem with my EVO 3d, and my father has never had this issue with his EVO 4g. I'm ready to take this phone back. It's ridiculously annoying, and the only way to fix the issue is to reboot the phone. Also, I'm frequently not receiving calls in areas where I should be getting "good" service. This is obviously an issue with both HTC and Sprint.
On top of this issue, I keep nit getting phone calls. My wife calls me twice everytime she calls and the first one almost never rings. Who knows how many calls I don't receive in a day.

Same here. I've had a few clients tell me they've been trying to get a hold of me, which is a bad thing. Anyway, I contacted Sprint, and the rep told me to take it to a corporate store to swap phones -- something I don't really want to do. She informed me that this issue is not widespread, however, I've been reading about the issue on a few different forums.
Edit: for some strange reason I haven't had this problem in a day or two. Hopefully it stays this way.

Resolved: Anyone having issues with Text Messaging?

Non of my SMS are being delivered today. Anyone else having this issue?
EDIT: Having the same issue with whatsapp messenger as well.
99.5% chance its sprints towers. Update prl and profile, reboot, wait it out. Your surrounding towers are probably being worked on. It's one of Network vision "side effects"
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Simple PRL and profile update will fix it 99% of the time
Any other ideas? I've done many PRL updates and profile updates, hard boot and soft boot and went from tower at my work to tower at my house about 45 minutes apart, and SMS still not going through.
My phone is working fine in terms of data and phone calls etc, just no SMS. Whatsapp seems to have fixed itself as well.
I've had really annoying texting issues. Probably been my biggest issue with this phone -- I guess it could be due to network vision upgrades, but it started happening right after I purchased my EVO 4G LTE. Mine hang sometimes, then other times it'll send the same message 10 times.
The only issue I've had to where it just won't send at all, even after a restart, is with my airave. I've had it happens a few times -- my texts will hang indefinitely (arrow animation never stops) until I unplug my airave.
I had issues with sms not sending today also. But I'm sure its b/c of them working on the towers LTE.because about 3 times since last Saturday I had LTE for like 5 minutes or so then gone.but sms working again now.

Oh, okay. Color me convinced.
Funny you post this, mine are not working well this afternoon.
Just curious, are you guys using stock or custom rom?
Stock.
Anyways, I called up sprint and they were able to help me out. At first he said there was a cell site that was being worked the tech did the troubleshooting, asked me to reboot and I am able to send and receive test messages
Out of the blue I'm now unable to send text messages. :crying:
I can still receive them, just can't send them. Hopefully it's something on Sprint's end and it works itself out in a days time.
I found out I was unable to make calls as well. I restored a few previous Viper 4G nandroid backups to see if that would help, but no luck. I finally restored all the way to the stock rom w/ root and I was able to make calls again. A fresh wipe and install (not restore) of Viper 4G and I was back to not being able to make calls. Guess it's stock rom for me for awhile. Classes started today and I won't have as much time to play.
And stock pooped out too. Must've been a fluke earlier.
Things now work again. The fault is all on Sprint's end. Stupid Sprint...
I hope there's a silver lining and it means I'm getting LTE sooner than later!
Its network congestion most likely, in my experience sudden roaming or network dropping in and out in a well covered area means repair or upgrades which now that I think about it could affect text messages as well
