[XPERIA U] [Q] - Alternative Flash Mode? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Firstly I want to appologise if this is in the incorrect section but after some consideration I decided that the ambiguious
nature of the post was enough to slot it in the General Section.
Earlier this evening I was wondering if maybe there was another way to put "bootloader locked" XPU devices in to fastboot
mode, seeing as it would make sense that sony would rather tackle certain issues without having to lock/unlock bootloaders
first (forgive me if this line of logic is ill as I am not entrirely familiar with the workings of the handset & sony etc..).
At any rate after trying a few random key hold combinatinos under different circumstances (e.g extended hold time, no sim,
no battery etc..) I didn't enter fastboot (or at least to the best of my limited insight I did not), I did however find that if you
plugged in a usb cable while holding down the camera key the phone appears to go into flash mode (i.e. green led in
illumination bar and red led in notification light).
I was wondering anyone might have an explaination as to why there's another way to enter flash-mode? And if the camera
key option is any different to the default volume-down key flash-mode.
My Device: Xperia U _ ST25i _ Generic - user _ Debranded; Filesystem Version: WORLD_6.0.B.3.162; S1 Boot Version: 1240-4128 R10E010

You cant and you never will enter into fastboot.

(How To) Enter USB Host mode

All,
I inherited a seriously injured HTC surround, and I have decided to use it as a project phone.
Current status - Half Bricked on the bootloader + when it boots it immediately asks to be connected to restore backup. Unfortunately I have no zune backup and neither does the original owner of the device.
So I have read everything I could find on the half-brick issue and it seems that some folks are having success using the goldcard method to over write their boot loader with various HTC devices. I am will to try this but all the vids I have seen tutorials etc show that you have to put the device into enter usb host mode (blue writing on white screen)
Only problem is ....I have no idea how to do this on the Surround. I have tried every button combo on boot and cannot find it.
Someone here must know how to do this in return I will post my findings on whether or not the Goldcard trick works to repair a 1/2 brick surround.
Thanks

Hi,
Power off the device
Press and HOLD both camera and volume down buttons
Press power on button and KEEP holding both battery and volume down buttons
After boot screen will follow the usb screen
Now release battery and volume down buttons
Regards, ansar
Ok I can only get to the tricolor screen showing the 1/2 brick spl. is the the usb host mode? Because I see on some videos on youtube a white screen with blue writing that says enter usb host mode. This is what I am trying to achieve.
Or if this is the USB host mode should I just attempt to do the flash via gold card and see if I can get rid of teh 1/2 brick?
USB Host mode
To enter USB host mode turn off the phone, then press and hold VOL down + camera buttons, then press power.
But the phone will not enter USB host mode if you only see one line en the tricolor screen (this state is half bricked). For the phone to be able to enter USB host mode, the tricolor screen must have more than 1 line but the only missing part must be Serial/USB at the bottom. Check well the videos on youtube, and you will notice before entering USB host mode that the tricolor screen have more than 1 line (someone call this state small half bricked).
My phone is also half bricked (one line in the tricolor screen), the only solution I have found is to do an HTC OEM update, either by waiting for HTC to release an update (that includes a bootloader) through zune or by forcing it (for this the phone needs to be developer unlocked).
P.S. ChevronWP7 is not selling more unlocking tokens at the moment, and the $99 AppHub membership is too expensive for me.
Thanks Guys
After reading your posts I tried it out on my good surround and sure enough was dumped directly into Enter USB Host Mode screen
So now I am sitting here wondering what can I do with this thing it will not boot to anything but the screen to connect to restore backup.
Could I give anyone here anything useful about the device? Maybe disect it and post pics? Maybe someone could find these jtag posts? Or keep it for spare parts? Seems like a waste to just chuck it
Maybe you can repair it

rob243, you can try to install a new firmware, depending if the firmware is a version inferior to 2250.21.40500.502. You can use a tool called Cab Sender (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306415) to send firmware version mondrian_2250.21.40500.502.cab (search in xda-developers), for the enter the phone to recovery mode (just press and hold CAMERA, then power, ang then release the 2 buttons).

Sola won't charge or turn on

I unlocked the bootloader and installed the advanced stock kernel from this forum.
When the fastboot flashing was finished, I unplugged the phone and now it won't turn on. I've tried charging it, but the red light disappears after some time and neither the hard reset nor the regular way wake the phone. I've tried fastbooting the phone again, it appeared on my computer for a few seconds and then was gone again. It's not recognized at all.
What is going on? Is the phone completely dead?
Good morning/afternoon to all.
I am facing a similar issue here ;-((
I was flashing DoomLord's DoomKernel on my brand new Xperia Sole, all went well&I stupidly disconnected my device from usb without giving the "fastboot reboot" comand... After that, it vibrated once&that was it..
Now, the phone seems completely dead..
- It doesn't switch on at all
- It's not recognized when i plug it in my pc (either by the pc itself, or flashtools)
- I can't enter any mode (fastboot, flashmode, u name it)
- No leds will light up no matter what
Any ideas? Did i brick it for good??
;-(((

Ehm, mate, I think the rest of xda should be making fun of us by now, IF u made the same thing that i did - that is flashing a kernel which is NOT for sole.. (I'm blushing here..)
I got carried away with all the new stuff, as i owned a ZTE previously, that i didn't notice that i was flashing a kernel ment for Xperia S..
Anyhow, try the following, as it worked for me:
Press&hold "volume up" key
Press and hold "power" key
After abt 10secs it'll vibrate once, keep holdin'em pressed for 15secs, untill yr phone vibrates 3 times
If successful, u've just hard powered off yr device
After that u should be able to enter fastboot mode&once u do that u can flash the right kernel this time, proper for sole..
(ie: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688169)
Hope it works
Tnx
Yes it's surprisingly easy to mistake Xperia S for Xperia Sola. Especially since we are in denial that there isn't ICS for Sola yet.
What I did was hard reset (The 3 reset route), then hold volume up key + Power and shove it into the USB port. After another vibration, release the power, but keep your button on the volume up.
You should be in fastboot, so flash another system image and it should work.
Quite true Snowstormzz..
aperioculos, did u have any luck with yr phone? Is everything working properly now, or what?
Tnx.
If your phone doesnt turn on at all doesnt charge pc dont recognize it then you have damaged its semcboot or trim area so you will need setool to unbrick that. Alejandressimo can help you in this problem

[XU] Unable to get Fastboot mode

Hi guys,
I know that here is a lot of infos regarding this, but I cannot get Fastboot mode on my XU. To get Flash mode is no problem (VOL_DOWN + cable), but I cannot get Fastboot mode (VOL_UP + cable). Am I doing something wrong?
a, turning phone OFF
b, plugging USB cable while pressing VOL_UP button
It's Xperia U. I tried to do it appr. 20 times but without success, phone is allways getting only chargin icon with red LED on right upper corner....
Thx
Does your phone boots?
Yes of course, everything is working OK except ability to enter Fastboot mode... That's why I'm asking if I'm doing something wrong or where's the problem... I want to unlock bootloader through Flashtool (I received unlock code from SONY by mail). But to do that, I have to connect phone in Fastboot mode
Brfore turns into charging mode is it light the blue colour?
Sent from my xperia sola using xda premium
No no. It's going only red (small LED in upper right corner) and I receive battery icon on screen. Is possible that I cannot enter Fastboot mode, because I have "Bootloader Unlock Allowed=NO"? But now I'm thinkning that my question is useless, because if my option =NO, then I'll be not able to unlock bootloader, even if I received official unlock code....

This phone will exit fastboot mode if you dont have the drivers installed correctly. You need to be fast to install them before the phone exits the fastboot mode.
Also you need to have your bootloader unlocked or it will not work.

[Sola] Cyanogenmod 9 bricked my sola?

I've tried to install Cyanogenmod 9 on my Xperia Sola, I've unlocked bootloader official way, flashed kernel from this forum specialy made for sola (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28957468&postcount=412 This One), then boot.img of cyanogenmod 9 (FXP203) and...
When I want to do anything with phone, it just flashes my red led. I mean, that led is still on, when I press Power it just turn off. And when I try to connect my phone in fastboot mode, It don't react at all. Can I already throw it away through window?
I put it under a charger to see if it's just off energy, but i've noticed, that after a while, red led just turns off and that's all.
My god, help me or I'll be back on Nokia 3310
You've used the S kernel, not the Sola.
Download the FXP for Sola (Pepper) here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1876929
Flash boot.img via fastboot. To get in, hold vol up + power. Wait for 3 vibrations.
Hold vol up. Then jam the USB cable in. You should be in fastboot.
Alternatively, flash the stock sola ftf via flashboot.
Problem is, my phone does not react, it does not vibrate, just that red led is on or off. Nothing else. I've tried all of those combinations. I can't get to fastboot mode or anything else.

Happened to me (I use Xperia GO). What I did is (as mentioned above) - Hold the power button and Volume Up button for sometime (it vibrates once after a few seconds, do not leave the buttons - continue to do so and after a few more seconds until 3 vibrations) and then the phone switches off. Now, hold the Volume Up button and plug in the USB cable - you'd be able to get in the fastboot mode. Flash a stock kernal and that should help.
If your phone is completely down (no charge at all), then above won't help. Plugin the charger and and wait for a few mins (before the red light goes off - you should now have a good knowledge on when the light goes off!) and try then try the above step. Once the 3 vibration comes, remove the charger and go ahead with the flash mode.
Hope this helps!
Thanks,
B.
Edit: By the way, I had my SIM Card and Memory card inserted in the phone when the phone was completely down without any charge. I don't know how, but it makes a difference with you try so (atleast in my case) with them.
If it does not vibrate, then it's a hard brick =\ You need the phone to be at least partially responsive to get into fastboot/flashboot.
Keep holding down. It should vibrate after 25 seconds or so.
Otherwise, you have to bring it to Sony and tell them their phone died on you.
Right now It dosen't even blink with Led. It's totaly down. I cant lock fbootloader, so I'm doomned. Hope that won't cost much...
Install Sony Update Service (SUS) and try to recover your phone from there.
Last shot here, but here's to hoping that the PC at least detects your phone.
Otherwise.... Yeah =\
If you unlocked your bootloader Pc companion will be useless for you cause it will not detect your phone,.,,
i think other way is to flash the stock ftf for you device using flashtool.... that wuld be the best shot for you...
please respond if this fix your problem
No, SUS will detect, but will refuse to flash. It will say "Phone has been modified".
Need to see whether it's a hard brick. If even SUS does not recognise, then bring it to Sony =\
None of the above works. It's just dead and sometimes flashes red light. PC Companion says that there's no phone connected. Hope I will be able to gain a varranty or I'll be on Nokia 3310. But I'm not verry cheerful about that...
Flashtool does not react when I plug in my phone in fastboot or flash.
Hey bro,
Its highly unlikely for hardbrick to happen to Sony phones by flashing a differnt Kernel when Flashtool is there Pretty sure that it ought to work, follow the steps below (Note that the order of usb cable connection is the most important thing as doing it wrong will not allow Flashtool to connect to the phone when its bricked ! )
First, try plugging it in to charger for a while to ensure that there's some charge. Follow up with the Vol and power Button to make sure its turned off. Then after that follow this procedure *exactly*
1) Prepare Flashtool and select the FTF. (Flashmode )
2) When flashtool asks yo to connect the phone, connect the USB cable to PC
3) Then, holding down ONLY the Vol Down button (No Power button, Note that ) connect the phone to the USB cable and in a few seconds, Flashtool will start flashing
I know you tried many variations but missing out on one or the other detail during your previous tries might have caused the lack of success Just try it and let us know what happens
Best of luck and hope you dont have to go to Nokia World !
Cheers
Nope, it's still not working. It just dosent detect phone. I'm pluging in, holding only volume key and I'm waiting 5 minutes - nothing happend.
Nokia 5530 for now, but come one...
Hi,
I am currently having the same problem (I have bricked my sola by flashing with fxp boot.img). After digging the internet I found out that you can start fastboot by:
1. holding all 3 buttons (power on, volume +, volume -)
2. the phone will vibrate
3. the phone will vibrate 3 times
4. release the buttons
5. hold the volume + button and plug in the cable
6. you should be in fastboot now (blue light on)
If fastboot does not work then do 1-4 3x. Good luck! Hopefully we will unbrick our phones

Lol things u get on the internet!!!
First there is no such key combination to start fastboot k so just dun break ur buttons in an attempt to start it ...
Steps 1,2&3 are steps to get ur device force restart and force shutdown and let me tell you one thing
step 1 is wrong it power button and volume + button. That's it first the phone will vibrate once for force restart and if u keep pressing it will bypass over to force shutdown which is indicated by 3 vibrations..

could work
I have a Xperia U and triying to port JB to it I briked two or three times.
I hold power botom and it vibrate and doesnt happen anything ok.?¿
The possible solution could be this(for my works)
Charge the phone like 1 hour for my doesnt charge with the animation but its for security.
With the nest steps you are going to lose all CWM and tweaks and apks but personal data still there.
You have two options:
Flash a new rom with flashtool, but when you pluged with volum - you hold it for allmost all process becose for my i conect to PC and its goes quikly so i cant do annything.
If the phone is not recognised by Flashtool:
You have to repair it with PC Companion or Bridge for Mac, and also the same hold volum - almost all process.
For my it works, tell my if for you works:cyclops::cyclops::cyclops:
Hi,
it worked !
after doing the steps I have posted earlier I managed to flash my xperia sola with the right boot.img (the one from fxp pepper) and install fxp via CWM. Should work for you too.
One tip: you have to remove the assert from fxp installation script.
Br,
Wermesz
@op, your battery is dead and isn't accepting any external charge. Try replacing your battery with a charged one. That is if sola supports user replaceable batteries.

I think I might have destroyed my Xperia XA1 Plus [G3421]

So I wanted to try the new android Oreo ROM for Xperia XA1 Plus but my version of software did not support the update (I think the original carrier has not yet released the update - I bought the phone from someone else so I'm unsure about the limits the original carrier has imposed).
Because Xperia Companion has not detected any possible updates I have decided to go with FlashTool. I have been using FlashTool with countless Xperia devices and It has never let me down.
Sadly, I think (or I'm sure) I have flashed a wrong rom - for G3423 instead G3421.
Let me describe the flashing process (after unlocking bootloader with "fastboot oem unlock"):
1. I have charged the phone to around 60% and plugged it into the PC. It was sitting in the TWRP recovery I have flashed before for 2-3 hours but It was connected all the time so I don't think that the battery percentage could've dropped.
2. I have downloaded ROM for G3423 with XperiFirm, the ROM description:
G3423_Customized GEL_1310-9253_48.1.A.0.116_R1B
3. I have switched the phone to flashmode (vol down + connected to PC) and flashed using FlashTool. Also I should mention that I am using Linux so no driver problems ever occured during the whole flashing process.
4. The flash went smoothly and FlashTool told me to disconnect and turn the phone on.
So after disconnecting the phone I have been trying to turn it on several times, but the power button just wouldn't react at all - no vibrations, blinking diodes etc.
When the phone Is connected to a charger or PC, a red diode shines constantly but nothing happens. Both adb devices and fastboot devices do not list the device.
I have tried several things to bring the phone back to life:
-holding power + vol up/vol down/both vols, and waiting for vibrations - no effect
-charging the phone for over 30 hours non-stop - the red led is still shining
-leaving the phone with two rubber bands on it - one holding volume button, the second one holding power overnight
-running FlashTool and preparing to flash, leaving rubber band on the vol down button and connecting the phone to PC overnight
-repairing with Xperia Companion - phone is not detected
None of the above had any effect on the phone, It is still dead.
Is there anything I can do to bring it back to life except sending it to sony support (and I do not even expect sony support to help me right now, after all I have tampered with the device)?
If It is required I have the required knowledge to open the back cover and disconnect the battery but maybe It is still possible to somehow fix the device without opening it?
I think that opening the back cover and disconnecting the battery cable for some time could help but I am not sure.
Did You tried with Sony PC Companion ?
https://support.sonymobile.com/gb/xperia-companion/#gref
I did but I think it will not detect my phone If it cannot enter flashmode/fastboot mode and has an unlocked bootloader.
Companion wants me to press vol down button and connect it to the PC and as I said vol down + power doesn't work

It happens to me on Xperia Z2 (old phone) i want my Z2 4.1 to 4.4, i kill my own phone by my mistakes when my phone turned back on i see red light 3 time, sorry can't remember anything.
because flash nand get corrupted.
you must read the instructions carefully, before you flash.
Don't go sony support or take sony shop because Is Too expensive to fix the motherboard and your phone is void the warranty by flash unofficial rom or tools
I am sorry for your phone :crying:
