pointless question about the ota rollout - HTC Rezound

Here in Amish country, Lancaster, PA, the ota is still unavailable on my phone. How is the order of the rollout determined? Location? Date of purchase? If I were to magically beam myself to, say, New York City, would the update be available to me? This is just idle curiosity; I'm already running a recent leak.

Is call big v and ask them, not the first person who answers the phone but ask for a higher up person to ask although of I was that employee I'd be pretty annoyed with all the ota questions lol

you have to go back to stock GB. you cannot be on a leak

I imagine someone will ride by in a horse and buggy and give it to you. :cyclops:
Seriously, when my daughter and I were on Incredibles, and she was in Ohio and I was east of you in Montgomery County, PA, she got OTA's a full day ahead of me. I'm on a custom ROM, S-OFF now so I don't expect to get any OTA, or I'd report whether I'd gotten it by now.

You laugh but they all have cell phones!
My question is more about how the rollout sequence is determined. I'm not concerned about receiving the ota. If I wanted it today, I would just flash it. Also, from some other threads I believe running a leak does not, in itself, prevent the ota from loading. My understanding is that you need to be running stock recovery which I am. Those that are not able to load the ota are running AmonRa as far as I can tell.

Just walk to Philly! I'm only about 35 miles from Philly, easy bike ride

That's my question. I'm curious if that would work. Are the rollouts determined by location?

If this is like other phones I've had, running a leak will stop you from getting the OTA. AFAIK, the OTA file isn't the full RUU we're seeing on the forums. It's basically a glorified diff file that requires you to be on a specific release, and stock top to bottom. In this case, the last GB release.

I am honestly thinking it is random. I am in Bismarck, ND, not a real center for technology, and have two Rezounds, one which was purchased shortly after launch on a business account and one that I just got in the last month. Both got the update within 15 minutes of each other (newer phone got it first, then well it was d/ling the other started), yet a friend with a Rezound across town still hasn't gotten it yet and he got his in February. My updates started just 12 hours after the first person claimed to get the OTA well lots of others haven't gotten it, even so far. So my vote is that the roll-out is actually just random.

Yes, he got his update this morning but it didn't push, he had to check and it was finally there this morning, updated the 7.1MB file and rebooted then within 2-3 minutes after complete boot up prompted him for the 299MB update and that went through fine. Last night (and multiple times for the last couple of days) checking yielded nothing, then this morning it was there and all went well.

Of course, it's better. However, you'll likely have to flash back to stock 2.1 JFD as I'd expect to you won't be able to update directly from JI5. Even the JI5 update forced people to do that (for example those that were on JI2 / JI4), I'd expect more of the same. There are those who have no problem doing this and that's fine. I'm just warning those who aren't / might not be.

Yea you lose programs settings ...ect but IMO its better to start from scratch when using new updates. And not run into intermittent and compatibility issues like what seems to be going on now with allot of people
but yea this update works great no problems whats so ever for me

Thanx, but I sorta needed that working GPS last week, not soon. Besides, "soon" is such an evasive term.
This makes me recollect the June 8th outing of a policy statement by Cole Brodman, Chief Technology Officer @ T-Mobile titled "No Phone Left Behind". It was in regards to assuring owners of the HTC Mytouch3G that they'd be receiving a Froyo update.
Nearly four months later and zip for the MT3G from Tmobile or HTC.
Maybe I'm wrong as my knowledge of timelines is from the inside of my addled head, but I do not believe T-Mobile has had a successful OTA of *ANY* Android phone in their stable this year at all. It's not the most encouraging development. (I do recall the Behold II 1.6 OTA, but it was eventually pulled for bricking phones....and led to me getting my Vibrant for free from T-Mobile before the official Vibrant launch...long story).
Granted, T-Mobile does not develop firmware, so they are at the mercy of the phone manufacturers. Still, if there's any issue that is at the core of Android angst, it is this one.
Just so I don't come across as a troll, I love my Vibrant. Compared to the Behold II I had and every other smartphone I've had it's leaps and bounds ahead of them all. I just get irritated when P.R. and "spin" get out of control...
Of course, this thread was a warning to the people who hadn't yet flashed JI5 / Kies and were still uncomfortable with doing it. Obviously, it's not people who are (already) comfortable. Knowledgeable people are certainly free to ignore and flash away.
This is BS. T-Mobile... how soon is soon? How long have we heard there would be an update to the MyTouch? I cannot and will not wait around for them to OTA anything. I will be very shocked if I get an update in the next month. I know i sound a little pessimistic but who wouldn't?
This is nonsense, installing this update does not prevent me from ODIN to any other firmware. I went directly from JI4 to JI5, so whoever said that I cannot do that is very confused.

That's because you ODIN flashed it.
Kies looked for the JFD product code, then gave you the option to update.
Lol how ironic that they don't want you to flash the firmware because it has 'known' issues. But the firmware on it has bigger issues so hmmm

True. I'd like to think the probability of bricking over OTA would be lower. Since it would be an official update they'd also likely be / feel more obligated to provide whatever support they wanted to.

I would assume odin to stock jfd then to ji6 should be enough to receive the update. I wouldn't try and update from a custom rom (that would almost assuredly result in a softbrick). Also I wouldn't hold your breath. Wait till tomorrow to find out the truth and worst case scenario I'm sure the update will be packaged into a cwm flashable zip or odin tar file soon after release.
I asked the same question in the General section, got a few very good answers.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922008
Bottom line, it is not safe to try to DL the OTA if our phone's somehow even are able to receive them. Some people have said if you are rooted, but have no custom ROM then you might be ok.

Samsung sent its base 2.2 upgrade to T-Mobile in late November after stating "SOON" back in JULY (4 months is not soon folks, 4 days is SOON) and now T-mobile after being forced to speak-up that they have had it for over 7 weeks. Guess CUSTOMER angry postings got their attention to lie some more, wifi calling has been out for a very LONG time at XDA (keeping with their model not to say the specific amount of time). FIRE THIS GUY and maybe Management will wake-up, if it does not hurt, put fear in the folks deciding, they will not do anything until it effects them. If we keep protesting MAYBE heads will roll and they will stop treating customers so poorly.
Definition of "soon" (adverb) = not long after the present time; quickly. BTW, adverbs often tell when, where, why, or under what conditions something happens or happened.
I really hope they will improve the signal strength!
So if i only rooted (was about to try other roms) will i need to un-root for the update?
I read somewhere that you only need to delete a file or two on / directory to unroot, but cant find that thread... anyone know what im referring to?

[Q] Got a Rezound last week, has the recent leaked ICS Build, some questions/concerns

So, I got a Rezound last week, kind of hoped that it would still have GB on it, but found out it had that recent ICS build on there. I didn't think much of it until a couple days ago...
First, I think I know the answer already, but since I have this "leaked build", I'm guessing there's no going back to stock GB? What was upgraded besides the ROM (baseband, firmware, etc)?
Second, people are saying that when I talk, it starts out at normal volume, then sounds like I'm holding the phone about 2 feet in front of me while talking (in other words sounding very distant), and coming back... Now, the only person who has actually described the problem is my dad, who has a Thunderbolt. My wife has an Inc2, and has not mentioned any problems, however she may not know what to listen for, as well as others, etc... I've also tried disabling 4g and using 3g only. I am wondering if this is some kind of radio issue?
Third, the bluetooth doesn't seem to have a lot of range. I have a couple bluetooth devices I use often. The first one is a Panasonic KX-TG6581 cordless phone which utilizes bluetooth on the handset to be used as an extension to the cell phone. On previous phones I got whole house coverage (I live in a single level 3000sq ft home). On the Rezound it disconnects at the ends of the house... I also have a Turtle Beach headset equipped with bluetooth. It seems to work fine when initially calling or getting a call, but then there's there's this weird static (kind of sounds like old dial up negotiating tones?). I wonder if this is because of bluetooth 3.0, but not ruling out the headset and rf/bluetooth interference
Last, even running with the extended battery, unless I shut off mobile data altogether when at home (which I should probably be doing anyway, but coming from other 4g phones I never noticed until now), I can stare it for 5 min and watch the percentage dropping. On wifi, not too bad. Just worried if I'm in 4g all day with no wifi will the extended battery last, say 12 hrs? I have no problems keeping it on AC power when at home.
Hope I didn't sound too noobish LOL... thanks for any suggestions.

if you have leaked ics (3.11.605.22) on your phone, you won't be able to return to stock gb.
how about re-flashing the leaked ics to see if the radio, bluetooth, and battery issues can be fixed.

When I got the phone, we did the sale inside a VZW store, the salesperson turned it on, and it was at the Welcome to Android screen... Thought it looked like ICS but wasn't 100% sure (should have double checked, I know)... even the rep didn't check... So, I'm guessing it was a fresh flash? Of course, not knowing exactly where it originally came from... don't know if that would make a difference?

Okay.. I'm a bit confused. Were there earlier leaks that would just let you install on a stock phone? I'm not rooted and saw that it was S-ON when I was in the bootloader?
Is the latest ICS the one that was released around 3/17? I just want to make sure I got the right one here...

Yeah there have been a few leaks. The older ones didn't run so well and didn't have the updated radios or hboot. The RUUs are supposed to be run on a locked phone. They are signed releases from HTC. Yes it was leaked around 3/17. I am on it as are many others and it runs fine.

ICS problems noticed

Now that ICS is officially rolling out I've noticed 2 issues, wondering if anyone else has noticed these ??
Running .211 here (which according to VZW is the official build) and I notice 2 issues.
1)GPS is not consistently working. It keeps showng myself as in Kingsland, GA. A reboot seems to fix it.
2)Corporate Sync is not working on our 2003 Exchange server for PUSH email - was working fine under GB.
BTW - I posted this on Motorola support forums and get a pretty nasty response...
If you have side-loaded or jumped through hoops to install software the shady way, this forum is not for you.
If you downloaded stolen software, you are going to have to live with the consequences of running unfinished software.
There is no support here for people running stolen software.

I dont know how it works but I'd assume that just because they didn't change the build #, doesn't mean they didn't tweak programs in the ram disk, it could be that build # = kernel revisions. If I were you and I had a cwm installed I'd make a nandroid, ti back up all of your user apps (not system), pull both to a safe spot on your comp. Wait for the update to be available to install , test the apps your having problems with, if they work recover the ti backup and your good, if not restore your nandroid, and complain officially with out mentioning the leak

I was running ICS .211 and could not get Corporate Sync to work either. Worked great on BG and since I use my phone for work, I had to go back to GB.
I really hope they worked this out, or they are going to have a host of unhappy customers as soon as they push the OTA.

Seems to me that perhaps they will be updating more than just ics for us.. And those updates were not in the leak..

Been running the .211 leak for about 6 hours. Have used GPS navigation in the car dock twice and it has worked perfectly each time. GPS lock achieved almost instantly.
Can't comment on the corp sync as I don't play that game.
Also, I find the comments about "stolen" software amusing. Perhaps when Google really gets their hooks in Moto they'll start to embrace the enthusiast community.

Been running the .211 leak for about 6 hours. Have used GPS navigation in the car dock twice and it has worked perfectly each time. GPS lock achieved almost instantly.
Can't comment on the corp sync as I don't play that game.

I fired up Nav and it locked onto my correct location almost immediately. I'm noticing the issue with a couple of weather widgets (stock and WeatherBug). Almost seems that after the phone goes to "sleep" for a bit it takes me from Wisconsin to Georgia lol...
When I fired up Google Maps after it thinks I'm in GA it shows me there as well (initially), then it will show me in my correct location.
"Can you help me with this stolen software?" Epic

If you use hashcode's safestrap method to get to .211 from GB .181 you can go back.

ICS is officially finally rolling out for the RAZR. And according to VZW the version that was released is .211 (same version as the leak).

ICS Isn't officially rolling out today despite what being said on VZW. Motorolla has stated already that the soak tests are rolling out today. IF all goes well with the soak (which I don't think it will as there are a couple of unresolved issues), then the OTA goes to the genral public next week.
Theres a bit of confusion on this. VZW stated on their twitter that its going out to all in batches, Motorola has stated "select users" starting today. I will believe Motorola because the soak for ICS hasn't started yet!

New OTA still at 4.0.4

Just got the new OTA, but still no Jelly Bean. I777UCLL6
IMEISV is now at version 7. No other changes I can see.

It looks like it updated Kies Air, and now the Facebook app won't open. I haven't noticed any other changes yet.
Hey all,
As some of you have already noted, an update is available for the Samsung Galaxy SII.
The update includes fixes for devices that may become unresponsive and/or power down while sitting idle on rare occasions. It also enhances security to protect against malware vulnerability. You will receive a notification on your phone to update.
NOTE - You must have updated to Android version 4.0 to receive notification of the new software update

What a complete waste. Sprint just pushed 4.1.2 to their gs2.

By rare, they must mean multiple times a day... hope that finally fixes the problem...
Had my hopes up for JB even though I know the phone will not get it from AT&T.
I guess it is good that they are still trying to improve the phone.

There's at least as much cya and marketing motivation involved as anything else.
I previously rooted and flashed Siyah 4.3.3 which resolved my issue with the sleep of death. This seems to prevent this new update from installing as when the phone reboots it shows the Siyah boot image and then boots back into the OS, when I unlock the phone it tells me that the update failed to install. I'm not in a hurry to install an update that resolves something I've fixed through other means, but I thought I'd share for those interested.

You really shouldn't accept OTA updates unless you are 100% stock.

You really CAN'T accept them if you remove system bloat ware or change kernels far as I know.
Hopefully it fixes the SOD problem. I was getting ready to call or go to AT&T and demand I be let out of my contract.

This has been happening to me for the past few months, on more than "rare occassions" though. I never knew what to call it until I saw people on here refer to it as Sleep of Death. Yep, sounds about right. And it would rapidly drain my battery when it happened.
I've successfully updated, so hopefully this will take care of it. It gets VERY annoying! And all the much worse since I use my phone for my alarm, haha. I have my wife's as a backup though.
Anyone pull the modem yet?

I'm only a curious now, about whether this fixes the SOD. After hours on the phone with ATT and Samsung, and a few factory resets and a new phone, it was still doing it. And each time I called them about it, they'd say they were not aware of such a problem. Anyway, not an issue anymore for me, since going to Task's AOKP ROM, which got me so many better features than an ATT update ever would have - warranty or no.
The only reason why this OTA was pushed was because a ton of users were posting this issue on the ATT forums for 4 months straight. Even then ATT pushes an OTA for 4.0.4 instead of using one of the many 4.1.2 firmwares from Samsung.

My understanding is that it is up to Samsung to produce the firmware, and because it's a carrier-branded device, I have a hard time believing that they'd do that unless instructed to.
Really? You think Samsung is the one making the decision? Its really the carrier.
Can someone pull the modem from this update? Pm or post a download link once extracted please.
