Please help identify if right firmware Samsung Galaxy S3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
"Another newbie reporting to this forum" ~~~~~~I just changed from Iphone 3GS to Samsung S3, so I'm new to this whole "new" world. I got my S3 from Kogan (HK) and the phone is international version.
I did some search and found out my phone is the European Version as per this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1725348.html
My questions are:
1. Can I flash the firmware to Australian/China Stock ROMs, instead of (correct version from samfirmware.com) - - File: GT-I9300 I9300BUALF1 Android 4.0.4 2012 June I9300VFGALF1 United Kingdom (Vodafone)?
2. What are the difference between the different regions of the stock ROMs?
2. Currently my phone's battery drains so quickly, is there any way to have this fix???? Have already selected advanced Wifi setting - - -Keep wifi on during sleep (Never), but still run out very quickly.
My phone's detail:
AP: I9300BUALF1
CP: I9300BULF1
CSC: I9300VFGALF1
BUILD NUMBER: IMM76D.I9300BUALF1
KERNEL VERSION:

[email protected]#1
SMP PREEMPT Tue Jun 5 10:17:57 KST
2012
BASEBAND VERSION: I9300BULF1
Thank you for your help!

You can flash any International rom to an I9300 .
2. What are the difference between the different regions of the stock ROMs?
Difference possible modem and CSC relative to location .

Thanks for the reply JJE! can you please clarify the following for me?
1. I've already rooted my stock rom and applied the battery fix, if I need to install the Australian Vodafone stock for example, do I need to use TriangleAway to reset Flash Counter first than re flash the new rom?
2. You mentioned the modem and CSC difference, what are they in relation to the phone and any affects to the phone by flashing the different Region's Stock ROM?
3. My friend is using the Australian version of S3 and doesn't have any problem with his phone. I did some search on the net and found out the battery problem affecting lots of international version of S3 phones. Although after I applied the battery fix via this link - - - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1732722 , I'm still having the problem with the battery, therefore is possible for me to flash the Australian Stock ROM and hopefully the different region's ROM will fix this issue.
4. Is there any links that I can follow easy enough for newbie like me to flash the ROM without brick the phone?

After flashing
Warranty = run triangle away then flash stock rom .
2. You mentioned the modem and CSC difference, what are they in relation to the phone and any affects to the phone by flashing the different Region's Stock ROM?
Modem generally work every place but some are better in some locations and you need to try if having network problems .
CSC just local area network setup details instead of manual entry .

Know nothing about a SGS3 battery issue the fix power profile is not battery its just stats wrongly shown means nothing at all .

Thanks JJE!!!!
After installed the battery profile, my phone's battery status is back to normal. I tested since this morning with 100% and I still have 60% left, although most of the time left in idle mode, where as when I first got my phone, the battery drop to 80% after 20 minutes after unplug from the power.
I found the file - CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.zip from this forum, after the installation, how can I tell my phone is rooted or not?
PS: Sorry I'm asking so many questions!

My build number
Hello everyone, New guy here to this forum but not new to Android. I have had an andriod phone about 3-4 years ago and ended up with an apple product. I have just received the S3 International I-9305 version and wanting to root it because of the power drain and hoping to be able to control this. I have been reading the root section and was about to start but there was one thing it was asking and it was the build number. I have located on my settings on the about tab. I do not see a matching build number for some of the profiles they are asking to match. Can someone point me in the right direction with the info posted below. I would like to root the phone with a samsung based rom. themes will come later, and do I need to have a micro sd card to root? will this keep me from performing the task? My card is in the mail and I cant wait for it to begin rooting the phone. Here are my stats, I have also updated to the latest software and it still says 4.1.2.
Model:
GT-I9305
Version:
4.1.2
Baseband:
I9305XXBME1
Kernal Version:
3.0.31-1153417

SMP PREEMPT Wed May 29 17:23:28 KST
2013
Build Number:
JZO54K.I9305XXBME3
Thanks in advance!

how is it relevant to this thread? ask in the i9305 section

Cool, got help else where. I thought it would be relevant to determine the firmware needed to select to perform the root process.
Tapatalk on GSIII

Framaroot should work on all SGS and more but be aware that flashing something like in this case problably a kernel from SGS3 I9300 to a SGS3 I9305 will probably lead to a brick.

[Q] Major Reception Problem

Hi guys, i'm thinking i may have to send my G2 back to O2
I love the G2 but as an actual phone mine as become next to useless! 99% of my calls drop out mid call or freeze with the other persons voice freezing mid-sentence and stuttering like a stuck record. At this point the screen usually freezes so i can't do anything with the phone for up to a min (approx) .
I find even if i have full signal, as soon as i go to make a call the signal will drop out completley, showing the circle with a bar through it? I thought it may just be crappy O2 reception but my wife is on O2 and her phone is fine.
Has anyone experienced these problems or similar and can provide a bit of feedbak? Otherwise it's gonna have to go which is a shame cos it's brilliant for everything else
I've now restored my original O2 branded firmware as the phone may have to go back to O2, i've also used a USB jig to reset download counter.
When i type *#1234# it shows:
PDA: I9100XWKE2
PHONE: I9100XXKDJ
CSC: I9100O2UKE1
Build info: Fri May 6 07:48:55 KST 2011
THis is what i was expecting however when i check in Settings > About Phone the Kernel version is: [email protected] #2
How come when i re-flashed the O2 branded firmware did the kernel not get replaced with a non-root kernel?
Any suggestions on how to get rid of the Root kernel would be most welcome
I'm in the process of downloading a full wipe rom so i'll maybe flash this and then re-flash the O2 firmware to see if that removes it?
[email protected] #2
root doesn't mean the phone is rooted.
DELL101 doesn't mean samsung got dell to make the phone either.
That is the original kernel.
HI
Are you sure its root? I dont remember what the stock kernel was for me but have you tried running a root app with success. set cpu is a good one to try you can find it free here on xda.
About your reception issue,
Its the modem/radio that sorts out your reception have you tried different ones? Im on o2 in the midlands i find KG6 modem to be the best for me.
What custom rom where you on? and do you get the same problems with the stock rom?
Actually flashing different modems would be a really good idea.
mynamesteve, pointed KG6, I would also recommend the KH3 modem as well.
Try it before you take it back.
As for rooted kernel, I recommend using speedmod, by hardcore.

Thanks brother
mynamesteve, LiFE1688
I tried running Titanium backup and it failed so as you correctly suspected it clearly isn't a root kernel.
Also i flashed original O2 firmware
PDA: I9100XWKDD
PHONE: I9100XXKDH
CSC: I9100O2UKD1
and the Kernel version was shown as [email protected] #2.. so there we go

Where is the best place to find individual modems? All the firmwares that i have flashed have been a single tar file or zip file containing the 3 components....
Thanks again guys ;p
Sigh, it is even a sticky thread.
Galaxy S 2 Shipped Modem Collection
You can also use rom manager to download it.
Thanks again, i've flashed KG6 firmware so will see how the reception is with it, if there's no change will try KH3 modem...
Nice one

[Q] Which firmware should I use for At&t

Hi All,
Sorry for the noob question, I recently got a SGS2, my first Android device. I'm currently on At&t in the US. I believe the phone is unlocked since it has the yellow triangle on boot up.
The phone currently has :
PDA: I9100XWKE7
Phone: I9100XXKE4
CSC: I9100XEUKD1
I would like to upgrade the phone to Andriod 2.3.4 and not wipe any data on the phone. Which PDA, Phone, and CSC firmware should I get?
Thanks for your time.

the yellow trianlge means that the phone is rooted! - in other words a custom software is installed in it.
what ROM?
answer---> what would you like? stock looking? - kitchen KH3, Cognition, vilian etc
custom?--->MIUI, CM7
themed?---->litening
and you can continue like this for long time...go to the original android development mate and check the procedure how to flash and how to use CWM i think u may have one installed if there is the yellow triangle...
then check ROM's and atached screenshots - read about thems bugs and problemss and pick one...dont be afraid u can change back or for another one anytime - but i will recomend you back up EFS folder first - there is a topic how to do so in original android thread.
i hope u will find your way
Thanks for the info Hunteres. I think I want to keep my phone stock, so I was wondering which firmware from Intratech's Official i9100 Firmwares thread I should get that would work on At&t. The phone is rooted and does have CWM installed when I bought it. When I upgrade to 2.3.4, do I need to upgrade the Phone: I9100XXKE4 and CSC: I9100XEUKD1 also?
Firmware
Get the KG5 firmware. I have been using that for a few weeks on ATT USA and its perfect. Battery life is also excellent. I have an unlocked from Clove in the UK.
CC
Any rom can be used on any carrier.
If you are getting poor signal or data speed try a different modem, there is also a thread dedicated to getting the correct AT&T apn.

is the KG5 more perfect than the KG3?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
KG3 - HAS VIDEO for Google Voice - This is the only plus - some apps do not work.
KG5 - much better battery life - all apps work - very solid build, no crashes or freezes.

Thanks for all the info. Would KH3 firmware be better than KG5 since it's newer? Do I need to upgrade my current baseband firmware and CSC firmware when I upgrade to a new kernel?

Dodgy reception problem after update to 2.3.5

Hi guys,
Hopefully you can offer me some advice.
I've been running on stock and normal kies releases on my O2 Samsung Galaxy S2 and I rooted it using infratechs technique is in 'stock' threads. A few days ago an update came up on Kies for the 2.3.5, I've updated and everything apart from my reception is fine. Where before I had say 3 out of 5 bars, now I have none and in areas where I had full strength I only have 3.
My phone details are now:
Android Version: 2.3.5
Baseband Version: I9100XXKI4
Kernal Version: 2.35.7-I9100XWKJ1-CL647431 [email protected] #2
Gingerbread Version: GINGERBREAD.XWKJ1
I've not done anything else to the device since I updated it, not sure why it still says root on ther kernal, But none the less has anyone got any suggestions on what I can do to fix the problem? I don't want to start playing around with flashing until I've had some real guidance from people who know alot more then me!
Thanks in advance.

You need to flash a different modem. That will probably take away your problem. Do you know which rom you had? Then you can flash that modem onto your device.

Hi Lenny, thanks for the quick response it is appreciated.
I don't I'm afraid, I'm guessing it would have been the stock one on the previous version?
Here is a topic about modems that can be flashed true your recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277593
Just try some out and see what works for you the best You could start with the latest and then try the one before that one etc.
How do you know if it worked?

Lennyz1988 - thanks for the guidance. I am definitely a newbie at this. Yesterday my G2 updated it's firmware and the did 2.3.5. The reception dropped straightaway and not doesn't work in parts of the house it did easily before. Those calling me said it was terrible. God forbid, I am having to use an old iphone now!!!
I have rooted the phone, loaded Rom Manager, put it in recovery mode and then told it to install one of the zip files (kp1). It did started the install (orange bar across bottom) but had to press the home key a couple of times to keep it going (there was yellow lines of scripts or comments with several lines of red in the middle each time I pressed the home key but too fast to read).
Anyway, no difference so I suspect it didn't work. Any ideas - stats below ??
I would pay for help if someone could fix the thing.
Vodafone carrier
Baseband - I9100BUK1
Kernel - [email protected]#2
Build - GINGERBREAD.BUKJ3
Original O2 shipped modems first release was KDH
Any of the released modems work on O2 UK some may give individuals better reception .
If you use CWM root and Rom Manager = problems .

[Q] ICS dilemma

Hello everybody,
I have a SGS2 from Bell Canada. I upgraded the stock firmware following various guides here. I managed to root it and to unlock it using Galaxy S unlock from the market.
The phone is running well now, battery life is about 2-3 days (I have Juice Defender and it helps).
I would like to upgrade to ICS but after reading a few threads I am very confused...
My first question is: will I lose my unlock?
Then, Kies does not recognize my phone any more; should I flash back to stock and wait for ICS to be available for my carrier and take it from there? Or should I go through Odin and just flash one of the ROMs released for Europe (or another region).
I am even willing to pay for Mobile Odin Pro and flash it directly from the phone, I read that it's safe and you don't lose any data, although other people were saying that it's better to just start from scratch.
Right now my phone info is the following:
PRODUCT CODE: GT-I9100LKMBMC
pda: I9100XWKK5
PHONE: I9100XXKI3
CSC: I9100XEUKH2
Model: GT-I9100 (shouldn't it have a M at the end?)
Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband version: I9100xxki3
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100xwkk5-CL754841
[email protected] #2
Build number GINGERBREAD.XWKK5
So, could anyone point me to the right direction?
Thanks in advance
I think you have the international sgs2. I have tried flashing the xxlpq ics update and then flashed a custom rom but I encountered a lot of issues. I think the ics update still has lots of bugs so I rolled back to gingerbread using checkrom revoHd v6. So as of the moment all you need to do is root your phone with Odin and CF-root kernel and wait for a stable ics rom

You have a whole lot of options to play with, it all depends how comfortable you feel and what do you want.
For starters, you have upgraded from KG2 to KK5, which is a firmware other then Bell, as Bell never released and update. Because of this upgrade your phone says it’s a I9100 and not I9100M. Mine says the same after I upgraded as well.
I updated my Bell KG2 to ICS (LP7) and so far I don’t have any problems with it. I did have an issue with calls going straight to voicemail, so I installed the LPQ modem, and things have been well. People have complained about battery life, but I don't think it’s bad. I would say pretty close to stock GB if not better.
What you can do is make a Nandroid backup and then upgrade to ICS. You can do it through Odin Mobile if you like, as it won't upgrade your Custom Rom Counter, if that is an item of concern to you. There are other ways to clear the custom rom counter, if you go through ODIN.
I would suggest doing a factory reset with CWM, and clear cache/dalvik cahce. This will be like setting up a new phone. You can also upgrade without the reset that and it will keep all your settings and unlock. You will lose root though, but you can re-root.
I have done it both ways, and I went with the reset in my 2nd try just for my peace of mind. I didn’t have any problems without the reset either.
If you don’t like it, you can always go back to your Nandroid backup, which is what you currently have using CWM.
If you want original bell firmware, then you have to wait until bell releases it.
In the end you are the one to decide. Hope this helps.
Once u unlocked network it won't relock after u flash/update software

Hi everyody, thanks for the answers...
I guess I want to try the stock first and then move on to some custom roms...
I read a thread about the XEO Rom and was going to try that
What do you think about this?
@sahib - thanks, I was not aware of that...
@warhawk_la - thanks a lot, very helpful bits and pieces; what is the difference between the LP7 rom and the XEO and where did you get the files from (I see tht you flashed a different modem)

NO its un locked .

May not work as Kies needs correct codes .

Your choice but rom for your region and actual phone is always best even as a backup for warranty .
Personally i would not jump on the ICS bandwagon yet .

[Q] No Network in Galaxy GT I9300 After Odin flash

I know there are a few thread around with the same purpose, but nothing helped me. I even did ping few members who claimed to have known the problem, to my bad, they are busy to reply me. So i thought i would start a new thread explaining my problem.
I got a new Galaxy GT I9300 Before 3months in Singapore, The shop is famous for selling smuggled phones, so i am not sure to which country mine belongs to. There was no network initially, so the shopkeeper offered his help, He gave the mobile to a nearby service centre and got it ready,
I am not sure what he did, but d phone had CWM and Super User. I already own a Galaxy S2 and i have done a lot of flashing Custom MOD's, So i wanted my Galaxy S3 to be original for a while. So i tried to restore by flashing a official firmware, To my surprise the phone didnt have any network in it after the ODIN flash. I tried an INDIAN firmware, then Singapore.
I tried CWM (which i am not a pro) but couldn get back the network. I went back to the service centre and he told some files are corrupted since i flashed the phone with official firmware.
He again flashed it, now the network works, voila ! I couldn figure out and he wouldn tel me. ****ing $40 !!! The phone had CWM and SuperUser installed in it again.
The phone had the following information after wat ever he did.
IMEI - 3531*********99 it is same in d board and in the phone information.
MODEL NUMBER - GTI9300
ANDROID VERSION - 4.0.4
BASEBAND VERSION - I9300DXLE9
KERNEL VERSION - 3.0.15-611327-USER SE [email protected] -71 #1SMP PREEMPT TUE MAY 22 21:54:17KST 2012
BUILD NUMBER - IMM76D.I9300XXALEF
NETWORK - SINGTEL
SERVICE STATE - IN SERVICE
MOBILE NETWORK STATE - DISCONNECTED
MY PHONE NUMBER - UNKNOWN
ERI VERSION - N/A
IMEI SV - 01
SERIAL NUMBER - 000000000000
DEVICE STATUS - MODIFIED
Can anyone please infer on what the service guy had done. so that i can update my phone to JB. I am sick and bored of the same firmware for over 4 months and i wanna change it. But i dont want to get struck in the same issue. Please help and advance thanks !
I am afraid you had bad luck
1. You should NEVER pay for stuff that does not work (and is not with original firmware).
2. You should also read this - it is almost certainly the same story (in your case SN 00000000 should also give a strong clue things are not what they should):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34226179
3. Since whoever f***ed those things the first time on your phone did not make an efs image-backup you can never return to factory state!
4. You are basically stuck with a phone where you will have to apply a patched modem after each ROM upgrade.
when you say patched modem what do you mean.?
Patched modem ???
When u say patched modem, can u explain tat ? Is it possible to create one by ourself ?

A patched modem apparently is modem code that does not check all the stuff in the efs partition (for instance when SN is 00..00) - I am currently using the one posted by ariza somewhere around. Patching one might be quite complex and for the moment I did not have the time to research that. The only problem that I see is that certain providers are said to be using very unusual modem code (since they have unusual settings in their own network) - and in that case you need to use a patched version of that specific modem version - but so far I have not seen that happening in a very repeatable way in posts from european networks.
The other problem is that when you install any full ROM (for instance 4.1.2) that will overwrite your modem - so you will have to re-install the old patched modem (so far ariza_v04.zip seems to work OK with 4.1.2 on my operator's network).
Serial no 000000...
