Please don't judge my stupid stupid question. - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

What scarcely is my Evo 4g lte stock running.
Is it ics....what is it...where can I read as much as I can I. What this is running. Why does the Samsung galaxy s III seen so.much cooler. Can my Evo lte run jelly bean...will there be an update for it. Hmmmmmmm so many dumb questions. Ohhhhhh I had a nice little hint of lte or 4g just now in n Dallas. Instead of 3g it said 4g is that lte or no....if so what icon do I need to see. Thanks in advanced. You rock

Your device is running Android 4.0.3 (ICS) You can read about what version it's running from the settings>about menu. Android code names can be read from Google or Wikipedia. There are plenty of reasons the GS3 seems 'cooler' but only you can decide which you'd rather have, as they both run radically different UI overlays, even though they're running roughly the same version of Android (GS3: 4.0.4). Your EVO LTE is fully capable of running Jelly Bean officially. However, there are currently no stable daily driver worthy Jelly Bean custom ROMs available. As for an update to Jelly Bean? Only HTC and Sprint know the answers to that, but I assume like all the other EVOs, it will survive an update to at least one higher Android version, Jelly Bean being that version. When? I wouldn't expect one for quite a while. Your 4G icon was indeed LTE, because your phone does not have a WiMAX radio and the icon you saw is precisely what you should be seeing.

Yeah it's Ics 4.0.3 but themed a lot by sense and literally what your looking for spec wise I think it's exactly like the s3 spec wise IMHO, and I had the s3 returned it to get the EVO because the s3 physical build quality suck, I can't deal with the plastic and if you think the s 3 Is cool go and get that you have 14 days til you get charged a other activation fee or 30 days in most store its honestly your opinion both are great phones literally I view them as the same except one HTC one Samsung, HTC just caters to the features I like the camera is amazing and dedicated button also plus lcd is better on my eyes and I like the color better not so saturated.
And yes of course the phone can run jelly bean there's unofficial roms that work really good and as for a official update who knows lte hasn't been getting so much love I remember reading a article where sprint or HTC forgot which got bashed on for not advertising it and blaming as that's the reason it failed mainstream ( that's why you see a lot more EVO commercials now if you haven't noticed), but either way we will be getting a 100% working jelly bean one way or the other.
And for the icon I wouldn't know but common sense would say it's the because I don't remember this phone supporting 4G wimax
So dude its your decision ones really mainstream the other is like it's neglected twin both are the same one just got advertised well and at the same time doesn't change the hardware though so have fun contemplating.....
Fyi most of this is my humble opinion the rest is common sense read the forums posts and relax dude its a phone........ and heck I didn't even know there was a jelly bean port until after 2 weeks I dived into some old title post but frequently posted on.... Learned a lot that day Haha

I just wanted to note that my wife has the gsIII and I have the EvoLTE- and I can say the only difference I can tell between the two are..
EvoLTE:
better screen
better camera (pictures)
better UI
kickstand/physical camera button
GSIII
better external speaker
bigger screen ( you can really tell a difference when they are side by side )
2gigs of ram
But really both still have the small lag problems. With the EvoLTE having less lag and I don't see this problem being fixed without JB or a custom rom..
also battery life on both are about the same..

i thought...fromw hat i have read..that the gsIII only comes with 2gig ram if you get a world edition. but i must have read wrong somewhere. hmmmmm

Yea I was under the impression you have not read anything ..the s4 version (dual core) has the 2 gb of RAM...so that includes the US version...play with both and make a decision..the dev scene here has picked up a lot lately

Given that the GS3 is locked and you will have to lay down serious bank for the Developer Edition that's going to drop soon, the LTEVO has a serious edge there as well.

how many of us EVO 3d owners were gonna switch to the phones in the title, im gsm and lte wont be hitting the uk (like the evo 3d wasnt)

honestly the best way to use an upgrade is on a iPhone (if you like them), because sprint devices drop value after 2-3 months you could pick one up used for contract price from craigslist

HTC has announced that the One X won't be unlockable on AT&T. If they don't allow unlocking on Sprint, how will that affect your decision? I'm sure a dev or three will eventually find a hole and give us a root method, but I'm sure it won't be easy and may be a good bit of a wait.
Yes that's a good point. If it cannot be unlocked, I'll keep my 3d.

the evo 3d is still good, not the best phone possible obviously but more than "good enough" with this update, I dont think that I will upgrade at least for six months more, probably next year.
my money now will go toward a new tablet instead of a new phone.
ICS is nice but the New Camera, Kickstand, S4 Krait, 16GB, HD Voice, LTE, NFC and Sense 4.0 with the new EVO is really tempting.
If anything, ICS/Sense 3.6 made my 3D go up in value.
I'm going to need a Sprint leak or final before I actually sell though. Can't roam with the current VM leak.

I think Agrabren mentioned something about finding an exploit in the S4 chip and stated that REVOLUTIONARY will only support qualcom chips. We should be in good shape with or without HTC's unlock, though I doubt Sprint will restrict unlocking.

The OneX is unlockable even on AT&T. HTC announced they understood that customers were very upset that they could not unlock their devices and decided to make all new phones since the 3d, unlockable. As far as sense3.6, I'm not that excited about it. Sense 4.0 is still way much better. I'm going to get the OneX when it comes to sprint in June. But the name is going to be changed, adding it to the evo family. I hear its suppose to be the best evo yet, even topping the Evo4g LTE. I'm excited.

EVO V 4G

What the heck is the deal with the new EVO V 4G on Virgin Mobile. This phone is literally the exact same that we are using and it comes with an OFFICIAL ICS update. We EVO 3D users still do not have a truly official ICS update, so what the heck? Why don't original EVO 3D owners have a ICS upgrade while owners of the exact same phone with a different name do. WTF HTC?!?!? First HTC phone and probably last; the lack of support(dev included, compared to other phones of the same calibre) is just ridiculous. Looks like the next google device is the way to go.

Sent from my ICS lovin 3D!!!
Oh yea... I'm a *****. Haha!
Sprint did this to keep the production and life of the EVO 3D going, just on a "different" carrier. Even when I called Sprint to have my EVO 3D replaced a couple weeks ago, they were going to try and figure out a way to send me a Virgin Mobile 3D and get it working on Sprint (Yeah, they actually said that. Then I told them, 'I'm pretty sure you guys can't do that.')
This way the EVO 3D and WiMax lives on for a little longer, and they can usher in the LTE with their new lineup. WiMax will be a hand-me-down to Virgin Mobile eventually, just like the EVO 3D is to them, and the EVO Design is to Boost.

Can't blame the developers for the degree of difficulty it takes to make custom roms for this phone without sources. I can honestly say if it wasn't for the 3d camera stuff, this phone would have a hell of a lot more development. Now HTC has been sandbagging as far a source code and kernel information and this is making me look more and more at the Galaxy S3 vs the Evo Lte.

I know there are ics roms available based on leaks... But the point is support your flagship devices first. That's in part why people buy them.
I am running a ics rom and there are some bugs. The one that bothers me is the front camera reversing pics. And then there was the fact no one knew the firmware messed things up for a lot of us. Sprint and htc need to support us first or we won't buy their flagship again.

I am running an ICS ROM and there are absolutely no bugs at all. The front camera reversing the pics was an instagram bug, not ICS and blaming anyone but yourself for flashing the VM firmware is just plain silly. If you want to blame anybody, blame sprint. The reason that VM got ICS is because Sprint didn't have to take a buttload of time adding their crapware to the image and then more time testing it. They should have done what they have done in the past and "leak" the image for us to "test" and find the bugs.

Yes, the firmware was my fault but to be fair some of the first leaks said to flash it for the rom to work. I don't want to offset the blame, but at the time we didn't know much about it and i was impatient (my fault for that).
Anyway... I don't have instagram, never installed it... yet still have that bug. i've had it since a full wipe. Tried 3 different roms... exists in all. so not sure why I have it if others experience it.
I've had that reversed front camera issue for awhile. Doesn't bug me though, it still remains on my current Rom (MikVirgin). Certain camera apps allow you to flip that ffc image, apparently this happens on plenty of other devices also.

I've noticed that the LTE hasn't been getting too much love compare to what the og evo got when it first came out, but it is still a relatively new phone and the first source dropped not too long ago. But personally, there isn't much I don't have with the rooted stock rom right now. I have EOS JB on my Xoom and other than Google Now, not really missing much based on my usage style.

Maybe because HTC has more One X/XL/S/V models sold than Evo 4g lte. Also maybe Sprint never agreed to release JB on the evo 4g lte? I dunno...

the reason why it hasn't been announced is that sprint has partner shop with htc as far as updates goes same reason why the sgsIII received like three updates before we got our first one even tho the evo was put before
Honestly, I don't care. I have a Nexus 7 and it isn't super buttery smooth compared to ICS like the the tech sites are making it out to be. It feels the same to me. Though I feel ICS is as smooth as it gets most of the time anyway except for immediately after unlocking the phone when it has been asleep for awhile. It would be nice to be on the current OS but I don't feel like ICS is a major step back. The notifications of Android 4.1 are nice though.
If Sprint holds true to its past with upgrades we will see it shortly after the next EVO device is launched.
You guys honestly complain so much. What's wrong with the way the phone performs now? Chill out and enough questions about jelly bean. It will come when it comes. This phone is a flagship HTC one X phone for sprint...do you honestly believe we won't get the next one or two (possibly 3) iterations of android?

... it took less than 2 months for the original EVO 4G to updated to Froyo... I'd say that is a better example of Sprint's record with updating a new device, than comparing it to updating devices that are fairly old (the EVO 4G was 6 months old when Gingerbread came out, and was updated about 6 months after that).
They said the One XL will get it, so we can count on the devs to then get it to us from there. No worries.

I'd rather be stuck on ICS forever than have my favorite apps not work properly with JB.
Yes i know its "almost the same" but almost doesn't mean it is. I tried apex on a JB build and it wouldn't even start, so either that build is missing something or its not as almost as everyone makes it out to be.

LTE owners should view this as if they were installing a cumulative Windows Update patch, like SP1, which will fix things... And break things... Such as backwards compatibility with apps.

sprint sg3 gets Jb smh

http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/25/jelly-bean-sprint-galaxy-s3/
While they may be getting it now, HTC will be releasing to the One X this month (as far as what they said). I would imagine we'd get it shortly thereafter for the EVO. I think they're stepping up their game, and this just proves it. They're the first US carrier to drop Jelly Bean for a phone that's available on almost all of the US carriers.

Unbranded One X's seem to be getting it tomorrow. We'll see when we get it based on that info.

Cool, nice to see Sprint not slouching on the updates, I just hope that means the same for our phone very soon.

I've seen an HTC rep with JB on his EVO 4G LTE. As in , verified in hand. It's being worked on. That's all I'm going to say.

I'll be the one to ask. What type of representative from HTC was this?

Yeah, like he'd/she'd tell me....
Even if JB was at 100%, it still has to go through Sprint testing you know. HTC won't know until Sprint tells them.

It's not Sprint's problem, yet. It will become Sprint's problem after they get it and take forever to do their work to make it worse.
Of course I just had to whip mine out and show him/her the lovely 4.1.2 from CM10....

The fact that they don't have it as yet is proof enough as to where the problem lies. The SIII is a newer phone yet it gets an OS update before the One X/ EVO? HTC's ship is about to capsize.

Don't forget, Samsung's manpower size is like >>>>>>>>>> than HTC's. Samsung is a much huger company.
I'm dying for Sense to be updated to JB cuz I REALLY like the Sense camera and a few other things. JB stock is a speed demon and all, but even the AOSP camera sucks compared to Sense. I bought this damn phone mainly for the camera's prowess, but that's stripped without Sense. Yet, with the current Sense, I hate using my phone cuz it's crap performance. DAMN YOU, TRADE-OFFS! I JUST WANT TO HAVE MY CAKE AND EAT IT, TOO!
Saw that the 1x was getting 4.12 in Taiwan. Probably why it's taking longer.

That's good on them if they decided to wait for 4.1.2, but it has to come out like SOON.

Also, look at the differences in HTC and Samsung as far as overlays. There's a lot more work going into Sense than there is for Samsung's phones.

Android 4.4 KitKat?

The phrase (or variations of it) "KitKat is slimmed down so it can work on older devices, even some with as little as 512 MB of RAM." keeps getting thrown around. The Evo 4G LTE isn't exactly archaic, and has 1 GB of RAM. Do you think there's a chance that this will get 4.4? Or is HTC done with this phone after our 4.3 rolls out?
sent from my EVO LTE on the XDA app because Tapatalk hates me -__-
I'm very sure, jewel will not get 4.4 kitkat officially
Bussiness think
Lets hope our developer will do it cyanogen base

In terms of officially coming to the EVO, there are just so many ways to say this - never, not in a million years, absolutely not, no way jose, no chance lance, nuh uh, neinte, zip, zilch, zero chance, and of course my favorite one - man falling off a cliff: NOOOOOOOoooooooooo!....Boom!
We are barely going to get 4.3, and even that isn't official until the day that we download it.
