Can't find zip files via stock recovery to update - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I was going to root my galaxy s2 and first went into the recovery mode.
I went to locate the zip file to update through and I couldn't find it, I put the two zips needed in the main directory and when I go to recovery mode I can see my folders but not the zip files, I've checked twice.
Any help?

Solved
Sorry, I placed my two zips the internal sd but recovery was looking at external card.
My bad.

hey dude, at least dont be a noob when ur posting.
when u have new issue's please use the same thread u have created, by just editing ur thread title, rather than creating a new thread for each of ur issue's
u know what i am trying to tell u right.
so please see to it in the future, else people who really want to help will ignore u for the same.
because creating new threads unneccessarily and spamming is against XDA rules.

I understand, Its just I found I had a diffrent issue regarding SuperSU and not finding a zip file.
But I see what you mean and will do in the future.

ClockworkMod Recovery SucessFULL are we ready for Custom ROMS ?

I did not wanted to hijack Konush thread..
Questions
1-After successfully flashing Recovery, are we ready for vibrant custom roms when they become available ?
2-Would any of the Europeans roms (Galaxy's) work in our Vibrants ?
3- There are TWO option in this recovery for the "ZIP" files.
Do we " apply sdcard:update.zip ? or install zip from sdcard ?
Thank you all..

#1
yes
#2
possibly
#3
you can do either
This may not be the right forum to ask those questions, beware you may get flamed by someone else, a mod will probably move this to general, so in the future you may want to post questions in general
#3. The only difference is that "apply sdcard:update.zip" the package that you're trying to flash HAS to be named update.zip or it won't flash.
install zip from sdcard: the .zip can be named anything and it will be in a list and you select what .zip you want to flash.
Same functionality but it just doesn't have to be named update.zip to flash and agreed with what defconoi said.
My apologies to MOds by posting in the Dev section, did not mean it just realize it, Last question Does it matter in which card I put the flashing file in ?
we have two external ?
Thank you both.

My assumption is that it'd be on the internal (/sdcard) because your ACTUAL sdcard is on (/sdcard/sd/) but that's just my guess.
I'm not too sure though, we'll see what happens when a custom ROM is actually released. I'm sure that someone will ask the same question.
It will be on internal because the recovery cannot access the external sd card.
Hi,
If we do not install clockwork recovery, can't we flash any rom as long as it is named update.zip.
Or to we need clockwork recovery to flash a different rom?
Thanks

YOU need clockwork recovery to flash another ROM. At this time, I don't believe there are any 100% confirmed working ROMs for the Vibrant at the time, you could try some European ones but you'll most likely encounter some problems somewhere along the line.
Modaco's rom allegedly works pretty well (A few nagging things, but works)

Need help, trying to install ROM and having issues

So I'm trying to install cyanogen rom on my lg optimus t and did everything i thought i was supposed to. PArtitioned the SD card and created folder 'AAA' where I placed the rom zxip file, per the attached instructions i was following. Wiped appropriate data and even did a backup via system recovery menu. However, when i went to flash the rom via the system recovery menu, I get E:no zip files found. I can't do a NAND restore either. I pretty certain that the zip file is on the sd card in the zip folder but can't get to it for some reason. Any body got any ideas? phone won't reboot either, stuck at the android splash screen.
Here's the instructions I was following //lgp500.wordpress.com/2011/07/07/gingerbread-cyanogenmod7-rc1-rjtchn-installation-guide/
you'll need to add the http prefix since forum policy won't let me post a link as a new user with less than 8 posts. Thanks.
Brice
Sigh. Did you copy the file before you partitioned the card? If yes, then you should have realised that the partitioning process will wipe all data on the sd card. Connect the phone to a computer and copy the zip file again.
yes the last thing i did was to copy the zip file the folder i created after partitioning. the folder was created on the fat32 part of the card. unfortunately, when i toggle the USB mass storage from the recovery menu, the drive doesn't show up on my computer. The phone won't start up now and so I can toggle it through the OS either. Is there some way to get the drive to show up when toggling the USB -MS through the recovery menu?
Possibly there were some errors when copying. If you have a card reader then try connecting the card to the computer through it. Else try partitioning again thorugh recovery, then see if the drive shows on the computer.
so i got the rom flashed and seems to be working but i'm not seeing the notification bar. anybody had this issue with cyanogenmod7-rc1?
Hem as far as getting your PC to recognize your phone when it
Plugged in the USB its prolly do to a lack of phone drivers. Don't know if the would be in the android sdk. Found allmy HTC phone drivers with it. And as far as the status bar h should be able able to change font colors St inthe cyanogenmod options under settings. Hope this helps some

Thanks all, I just reflashed the rom wand the notification bar was there and all seems to be working well. Thanks for all the good advice. Once I got a card reader and moved the zip files out of the folder I created and into the root directory of the card the phone saw them fine and was able flash the rom. I'll definitely download those drivers

Can't locate restore file in ClockworkMod Recovery

I backed up my ROM before flashing UnNamed rom. I need to flash back to stock. When I go to Restore in ClockworkMod Recovery, no files are found. I can see my backup file on the sd card but not when I choose "Restore". I have the file also zipped on SD card and I've put it in the main directory on phone. If I try to load it from zip file, it starts but then says "installation aborted" after a few seconds.
Is there a certain place this recovery file is supposed to be located?
Or is there something I'm missing? Any help would be appreciated. I have the backup file and CWM is working fine, just can't seem to get the two together.
Thanks
supposed to be in

Thanks, that was it. I must have inadvertently moved or cut it. Put it back and I'm back in business. Thanks again.

I think the reason your post has not been answered is because we don't know exactly what you're asking. Also most answers are already posted. You just have to search and read them.
I'm not sure what you're doing myself, but I think you need to use Odin to flash CWM recovery and then use that recovery to flash ROMs, kernels, etc...
Since I really don't know what you're trying to do, you need to make sure what I said is REALLY what you need to do. By searching and reading you will find your answer.

tq very much.. right now, i'm trying to do just like u say, if it works, i'm in your debt..
what i meant was, that my android recovery system cannot detect the path to SD card, since the gt-p7500 did not have any SD Card slots, so i can't flash any .zip files from my tab.. Thanks so much..

One of the partitions on your tablet is mounted as /mnt/sdcard (or /sdcard). You normally push files there using USB from your computer, either using "adb push" or mounting the sdcard as a media device on the computer.
Stock recovery does not let you choose a file from the /sdcard directory. I think the errors you're seeing is that the stock recovery isn't finding the files it's looking for.
You'll need to install Clockwork Mod recovery if you want to flash custom ROMs.
Galaxy Tab doesn't have an SD Card slot, so anything with external storage/mounting USB/ etc won't work in recovery. Flashing a ROM is possible because the data partition is read and treated as SD Card. If you need to add something to your tab via USB while it's in recovery, you'll need to use the Android Debug Bridge and type adb push, then the file, then the destination.
Example:
Code:
adb push rom.zip /sdcard/

Please Help with root.

I was recently given a nook tablet. It is running version 1.4.3. The only root methods I have been able to find all involve using the NT16or8gbV4_7 image and I can not find a working link to the file. Is there another way to internally root and install a recovery so that I can flash roms?
Am preparing a boot2recovery from sdcard for helping new nook tablet users install roms.
Unzip and copy everything included in this zip package to the root of a fat32 sdcard and tell me if you can boot into cwm.

Btw this is development section and your problem belongs to q&a

Sorry, should have put it in Q&A. Thanks for the response. If I unzip the files and copy them to my sdcard the nook still boots normally. They look like the files that are on my sdcard if I used windiskimager to write a bootable sdcard. Wouldn't I have to write stuff to the card and not just copy them over?
You must prepare the sd card for Nook compatibility booting
i bet you didn't.
If i remember well is 1st partition/70mb/fat32/named boot/and must be active.
Search around for answers or be patience until i find some time to prepare a new quide.

Yeah I had started to do that from one of the guides but had since re-formatted the card. Anyway I set it up as such and copied the files over. It's booting to Cyanoboot but I'm seeing "bboti: bad boot image magic (in memory)" and "Hold n for menu". Holding n does nothing.
Go into the stickies section there is a full guide with links to the files.

There is only one guide in the stickies on this page and that involves using ADB and the link to the instructional video is dead. The other guides I've found required the file I mentioned above which all lead to dead links. I was hoping for a bootable SD card then installing a recovery internally to the nook so that I can flash roms directly from the recovery as I've done with many other Android devices.
I figured it out, can a mod please delete this thread? Thanks for the help guys.
