Now that HTC made their announcement a couple of weeks ago, we have an actual ETA on the unlocked bootloader. That said, as we all know, it'll be a month or two before this goes into effect. I know that many people (myself included) jumped to the EVO 3D because of the spectacular dev support that the 4G received, hoping that the 3D would get similar support on even better hardware. I think there were many people disappointed in HTC regarding the bootloader and how long it took them to unlock it (and awesomely impressed with dev temp-root workarounds!), and I certainly wouldn't blame developers for jumping ship to another device due to impatience with HTC. Of course, if devs go, there will the people follow.
My question to the devs is that now that we're reaching the deadline of the 30 day exchange policy and with rumors of the Galaxy 2 II on the horizon, are you going to be sticking with the EVO3D or returning it to develop for another phone?
I ask not to call anyone out, but out of sheer curiosity and self-interest. As awesome as this phone is, I want to go with the phone that is going to get the most development, and I know I'm not alone in that regard.
Thanks for your time!
Personally I don't care. But you're going get flamed by some "Obese and Ugly" Super Nerd that has some kind of Napolean Complex and feels the need to tell you that this post is in the wrong section. He thinks he's doing XDA and the "interwebz" a service and also speculates daily that he's important on some grand level.
All that aside. Development for the EVO 3D is ****. It's over. Thanks to Stericson.
I've jumped ship. I'll never purchase another HTC phone, they can shove them up their ass, lock their bootloaders and masterbate on the code as it prints out from their ****** iMac and MacBook Pro's.
..sigh.

I don't think any devs have jumped ship, theirs just no reason to develop anything right now. The only thing we have right now is temp root and that has been developed into something far beyond what it started off as.And not to forget the all the skins, unrooted rosie mods, overclocking and everyone behind the scenes working on trying to crack the bootloader with the little there is to work with. For now the 3D is a great example of the saying- when life throws you lemons... And when one of the outstanding Devs here squeezes the juice out of the locked bootloader we will have us one fine lemonade stand.

I wouldn't at all (even though we really aren't have a "Dev" discussion right now), I hardly see how anyone can say "HE" killed dev for our device. I don't think the dev is dead at all, hell, he tried to keep all the BS and stupid questions out of the Dev section. I personally think that the fact there has been a min post count rule implemented across the dev forums speaks volumes to and shows that people do need to read and respect the a) section and b) OP when posting in a thread, well.... lets say posting HTC rants in a thread dedicated to our temp root solution.
"He" may have been a bit slow to reopen the thread (in our section) that he was basically forced to police because of morons that can't read or comprehend just what a dev thread is for, but that hardly constitutes making the "Dev being dead, over and out". Said morons and illiterates actually drove the dev's to IRC, away from the public forum where they started and hoped to collect ideas and garner more support from the masses on the development work.
I would like to hear a dev say "he" killed their work on this device... sounds like crazy talk to me from some impatient users.
I won't be jumping ship (speaking as veteran flash addict and avid Dev supporter), we'll have our perm root one way or another. I am just surprised to see people acting so butt hurt over what is going on, a month out of the gate.
Now that, is some sad shhhht to sigh about...
Oh, and... IBTL
I hope allot of the 4g devs do make a appearance, I personally think most of them are the best there is. I believe we picked up a bunch of hero guys too, there's a whole lot of exceptional talent in that group too. I think once we get full root, theres going to be some real awesume stuff pop up overnight in this forum,
I do have to say the ones that are here now are going a great job and putting out a lot of badass stuff considering all most of them have to work with is teamwin's temp root.

So many devs have been working really hard on unlocking and rooting this device. On the near horizon there will be so many awesome mods and roms and mods our heads will spin. It's been around 30 days since the device was released and there are ton's of people on board. Once the bootloader is open the floodgates will too. Just sit tight and wait. Good things to come.
You guys have to realize also there is a BIG difference between devs and chefs

I think that's pretty much where I'm at, just sitting tight. I found myself in the unfortunate spot of getting a 3D with a touchscreen issue, and I'm between doing a 30 day return or exchange. I think more than likely I'll end up keeping it (the thing is a beast), and it's good to know that there's other people sticking around
I think we should all jump ship and give up, after all that's why we're here, at xda developers. Also, this piece of junk unmatched phone had been out for a crazy long 37 days, what with no root... WTF. And that damn mod... Keeping morons with big mouths out of dev threads, what a douche, we should just let everyone say and do what they want in here. That way we could read more. I hope a mod closes this thread and bans the OP for a month, for fun (because this awesome development is... A question). Member since 08 ... Get some email addresses or follow them on Twitter, or pm them, or find them in webchat, that's how you talk to a dev.

Good point. I did generalize by saying "devs" but I definitely meant both. ROMs are one of the best reasons to root. Looking forward to getting some CM, kushdeck, and MIUI on this bad boy, not to mention the host of awesome Sense developers like Myn, Virus, and Ava. From most responses, it seems like we don't have too much to worry about. As far as CM and MIUI are concerned, if demand is high enough, there'll either be an official release or at the very least a port, since they're community projects.
Just wanted to let everybody know that I've tried the VALPHA3 of CM7 with Tiamat's 1.1.0 AOSP kernel and (aside from the known bugs) I've NEVER seen an Android phone run this great. 1 hour of medium-heavy use off the charger, OC'd to 1.6 GHz using SetCPU and the lagfree governor and auto-brightness on connected to WiFi, I'm only down 4% on the stock battery. No issues connecting to a WPA2 WiFi network and this thing is FAST! Benchmarks barely show how sweet this thing is running.

By the way, it seems like the benchmark scores are fairly low because I'm using a "less-than-ideal" 16GB Kingston class 10 card that only achieves class 4 write speeds. Also, anybody who knows anything about Android knows that benchmarks only show half of the story. Not even sure why I included the screenshot now. Had to be the excitement.
I haven't seen any issues with multi-touch.
Also [insert question about demoralizing comment here]...
Why's that? I mean, benchmarks are pretty useless anyways. Testing in real world applications is what matters. And CM7 is much more responsive than Sense apps in that respect.

I already said this..if you guys are expecting any kind of a stable ICS rom before the year's end then you're just setting yourself up to be disappointed. The source isn't gonna be released until middle of November. Then you have a month in half to code a working rom from 100% scratch?
Not to mention 2 major holidays to deal with in that time...no.
The CM7 alpha thread got closed because it was filled with morons going off topic or *****ing each other out. We may not even have nightlies for CM7 before the year's end... development on this particular phone is slow and boring. It is what it is tho..we'll get it eventually.
No 100% working ics until April or May. Im calling it.
Temari x Shikamaru
As an aside: Gingerbread was released in December (SDK was Dec 6th, I couldn't find an actual source date, but I didn't look to hard).
And we had "kang" builds working for the Evo4g by Christmas. I couldn't find when official nightlies began (it looks like mid-January) and the first RC release was in mid-February.
Hopefully this will give people a little perspective into dev times. Granted this is not a timeline that is set in stone. As of right now the 3D doesn't even have CM7 nightlies so it might (read: probably will) take longer.
Just have patience.

I thought that was why, but that is a awful reason. I remember the thread was locked or cleaned up at one point, but come on. Toast is a great dev and all, but I don't support that decision. The one thing I always complain about (and my peers) in work environments, is lack of communication. Im a dev too and I understand that asking for ETA isn't nice. I'm not asking for that at all. Just give me a status update like I dunno, once a month would be nice. I hope the CM team doesn't look at us like a typical dev/client relationship in the work force, where that relationship is non existent.
And yea I know they do it for free, they have real lives, stop complaining, etc. I'm not complaining....I'm asking for better/more frequent communication.
And its my OPINION. If you disagree, do so politely.

This. And even then people should expect to wait MONTHS for things like 4g support or to do without 3D features. At least thats what I remember with the OG Evo.
Also agree with issafram, its a shame the thread was closed instead of cleaned up and forced to stay on topic. I have only followed a handful of ROM threads so I can't speak for how widespread it is, but it seems the EV0 3D forums has been plagued with these problems compared to the EVO 4G forums. I can pontificate the reasons all day but I think the solution is to crack the whip until the offenders learn or leave.

The devs don't owe us anything and I know that 100%. Its just hard for a development forum to stay development related when there is basically no public development being made. I love teamwin and toastcfh and can't wait for another release but by the way things seem we wont see anything until nightlies which are probably another 2-3 weeks out. Once trwp 2.0 is released cm7 development should speed up I think. Just no telling when either will be released.

Sorry, rank78, but Issafram has it exactly right, here.
If you're going to open a thread, be it in the Dev Forum, in General, in Q&A, or in Themes, there needs to be one thing included in every one, and that's just:
"Common Courtesy".
It shouldn't matter at all how talented the Developer is, or how highly anticipated the ROM is:
If you're going to take the time to open a thread in the first place, the ONE responsibility you should take on is the responsibility of keeping a simple line of communication open to the users who decide to devote their time and interest to that thread.
Sure, you're more than welcome to state right up front "Don't ask for ETAs" and "Keep the thread on-topic!", but the OP has a responsibility then as well:
That's just to take a SMALL bit of time, (even if it's only once a WEEK) to let the users/subscribers know that at least you are 'still working on things', or 'at a roadblock' or 'on hold for now' or even that you're still alive, even.
Apparently, in the CM7 thread, that was too much for even TOAST or Shift to handle, and to insinuate that the closing of the thread was the fault of users going off-topic, (after not a single post in three weeks) , is absolutely asinine.
What kind of topic are users supposed to "stay on" when, by all accounts and measures, the developer has 'jumped ship' on the entire project?
Of course the users in that thread got sidetracked and began making off-topic posts.
Would you expect anything else?
Nope, the CM7 thread WASN'T closed due to the off-TOPIC habits of the users...
Rather, though:
The CM7 thread WAS closed due to the off-THREAD habits of the Developer and the "Maintainer".
Simple as that.
(Not just my two cents, because that's the absolute truth.)

I'm actually a retired senior moderator. I have absolutely no powers on this site anymore. I did pm MikeChannon requesting he reinstate me to this forum only in an attempt to help straighten it up so you're both right and wrong in that regard.
As far as buying a phone just to participate in a community, you're completely wrong about that. Every single phone I have owned since my first Motorola Razr has been a touch screen HTC device and I've been an active member of XDA for almost as long.
I also have no desire to get rid of my Amaze. I simply said that since I'm thoroughly addicted to XDA, I would almost rather have a sensation where there seems to be far less drama.

You've said 12 ics threads plenty of times before, but I don't see them, either I'm blind or there's actually a lot less than that. But it's not just the mods job, it also takes plenty of help from the members for reporting things, since we can't be on all the time.

I was the first person(that I know of) to figure out how to change the date stamp on any post. I actually changed the date stamp of the OP of one of my own threads in the HD2 forum by more than 2 years, predating the device.

I think I know what you meant, and there is a co-mod that does his own here. I think that I'm just a little to nice and let too much slide. The funny thing, when I did get stern people got crazy about it. So do you want a nice mod or a stern one, it doesn't seem to be enough for this forum either way

I believe you need one of each. Having one nicer, understanding mod and then also a NO-BS mod who doesn't give too many chances.
I was the latter of the 2. I don't know if you are familiar with the HD2 fora or not but I am responsible for the restructure it received a while back. You have NO IDEA how many temp-perm bans I had to fork out both during and after that restructure with all the warez and new users we had come in. That forum was a real mess. I was the NO-BS mod that whipped it back into shape.
I'm just saying that even though you may very well be a great moderator(sorry I don't watch much these days) and your partner as well, it never hurts to have a 3rd set of eyes helping out.
Anyways...
You can really close this thread I suppose. I was just venting I guess.. Wanted to see if I was alone in my frustrations or not..
if anything I thought the "drama" only adds to the fun of the forums
i dont see how it affects what device you wold want to own.

You've said 12 ics threads plenty of times before, but I don't see them, either I'm blind or there's actually a lot less than that. But it's not just the mods job, it also takes plenty of help from the members for reporting things, since we can't be on all the time.
Anyways, back on topic, if you like the phone, which I know nothing about, I'd stick with it even with the childish behaviors lately. It sounds like some good stuff is going to start happening really soon.

I just reported 6 that have been commented on in the last 7 days... lol I labeled them ics1-ics6 for Wardfan in the report box. I would have copied and pasted all 12 but my laptop screen is junked and I'm just on my thrive tablet now. That also doesn't include 3 dev requests (2 from same guy) on what we all want in a ROM or the Amaze vs Sensation/sgs2/bb/etc... I hope that's sufficient
Edit.. I see some changes being made and THANK YOU from me at least..

First off, this isn't a flame/finger-pointing thread. I am legitimately concerned about the future development for this phone. I LOVE this phone, but it hurts me to see all of the nonsensical drama and never ending bickering that goes on in every GD thread ever created on this site. It's actually quite incredible. Speaking of incredible, that was my last android phone and that forum is still kicking. Quite impressively actually. Rezound development has hit a slow patch for multiple reasons, such as source and slow updates etc. Which is totally understandable and I'm willing to be patient because I know it will be worth the wait, BUT what really bothers me is the amount of talent that has already jumped ship for whatever reasin. Will we be able to recover a few months down the road or has this phones reputation been tarnished for good?
Discuss.

I suspect when source drops, several of the heavy weights will roll in. If not, I'm sure someone will step up and take a swing at it.

I would hope that is the case, but the drama that has taken place for the past 6 months could drive folks away. I think one thing we have going for us is price drops.

I think you're confusing the reasons for slow development with a bad reputation for the phone owners. I haven't seen our bad reputation actually slow any development. Perhaps there are devs that would be willing to work on the Rezound if not for its owners always bickering, but I sure haven't heard about any. And out of the devs who have left, I think Protekk might be the only one who did so because of our reputation (and let's not get into the can of worms of whether or not he ever actually developed for the Rezound). If you look at the rest, they left for unsurprising reasons: better phones or phones that are easier to develop for (or personal reasons, like bored). I can only hope that we pick up devs as source is released and things get easier, but I suspect one of the things that keeps a phone development going strong is a large user base. I doubt that the Rezound shared the popularity of the original Incredible, or the popularity that the Nexus/SGS3/One X currently have.

sadly, i dont think so. we lost 95% of our devs. mostly due to asshattery and all around dumbasses who hate, troll and ruin the experience for anyone else. this community is broken right now and i dont know if we would ever be able to put the pieces back together....

joel is preoccupied with school
bored is dealing with problems irl
newt went to mikmik
zone went to mikmik
scott got a one x
that leaves
con and meadows who got gnex's but still promise dev work
nils who is great
siul who does gsm stuff.
raptor who released a rom yesterday
slim
not to mention all of the people who jumped ship for the gnex (soon to be me too)

Okay, so your list isn't much different than what I had in my head. And although there has been some ridiculous fighting (including among devs) in the past, I believe that none of those who have actually left the Rezound did so because of the fighting. As messed up as our community may be, I still maintain it hasn't chased anybody off. Now it may not be welcoming people in either, but I'd imagine the main barrier to entry is the fact that the Rezound is an 8 month old phone with a small user base.
I'm not worried about it. Frankly there is a disconnect with developers and users. Expectations are high from both sides these days whether it be wanting updates frequently or asking for donations only to move on to greener pastures. I think everyone just needs to take a step back and relax. If you feel slighted, sorry but there is no guarantees and realize this is not work, nor is it the real world. Donations are supposed to be tokens of appreciation with no strings attached but hopefully the Devs reciprocate with new stuff. Take what we have a enjoy it. Support our current crew and hope for the best.
We have updated releases from Con, Nils, Slimrom, etc etc... We also still have roms here that are aged but work perfectly well like CR 4.5 or DE Edition, Joelz 2.1 ICS rom or even GB roms from Chingy and Scott. We also have several emerging developers that should be supported. I apologize if I missed anyone but I think everyone should be supported including our talented themers like MikeD and Zhp Pilot for example. We have fully functioning and stable GB and ICS releases that have been improved from the OTAs. Sure we don't have JB yet. But we have a device with an excellent camera that is reasonably up to date. I would get a Nexus as well if I felt compelled to do so, but probably would be unhappy when I took a picture on the outdated 5 mp camera that sucks imho. In other words, we all value different things and have opinions but the one thing we should all agree on is this bickering needs to end. Maybe if this forum becomes a little more user friendly, more people will come forward and even come back to contribute. Sorry for the long response.
Don't forget the ROM in my sig that is one of the most awesome ROMs I have ever run on ANY phone.
I don't think so, pretty much all the main devs have left to the Nexus now that JellyBean has come out and a lot of users are going there too. Most devs will be done with the Rezound before source ever comes out and I don't see them coming back. And with the Incredible 4g coming out very soon I see the left over devs and users making their way towards that, and the Rezound fading into the sunset
I'm an optimistic pessimist ... Basically I expect the worst but hope for the best. Actually, just a few days ago I decided to see if anything had gone on with my old Eris and found out cm7 recently came out running gb. I feel like the Rezound and Eris have a lot in common (not hardware wise! I just mean not ever really being pushed by vz, etc). So, yeah, sh*tty for now, but fine in the long run.I've been wanting to get into developing so maybe this is my time to shine! (Or not )

The bickering was mostly a product of one immature dev in our community. Joelz complained about others Kanging his work, all while Kanging the exact people in return. He then began promising release dates and completely missing them multiple times. Noone needs ETAs but dont go posting them and then not even come close to making the deadline. He claimed a new release on between the 14-21 of Jun. Its obviously much after that and no release.
He is a child still in highschool and it reflects in his actions on here.
The small bickering is on most every forum.

Don't forget erishasnobattery. Probably would have had aosp had he stayed. He left because of both the community and because of the developers. He posted a nasty thread on rootz slamming our devs. I personally lost all respect for him after that post.

Not going to get into this but check out his last 3 pages in his pkmn thread with his new release and ill give you a link to his newest one that is basically stock sense 4 with mms bug and no tweaks so you can see he didn't rip anyone off and was trying to still dev while going to school this summer.

Development for this phone is gonna be slow. I really do feel sorry for HTC because it seem's they have been getting bent over until recently. But it still cost them lost of money.I wounder if they will every be good again or will they be the "SEGA" of phone era..
your post makes no sense
the frikkin source hasnt even been released yet.
all 4 of your sentences have makes no sense at all
what does htc being bent over have to do with deving being slow? and what "still cost them lost of money"
I think what he meant was that they still refuse to release the source. Until then, I don't see the dev community making any leaps and bounds.

Both of you make absolutely no sense. Honestly. Is this the first Android phone for both of you? FOR a non flagship device, do you know how long it takes for development to take off? Pretty frikken long? The development has taken off at a rapid pace since the launch of the device. And had t slowed down a bit. HTC has 90 days (under the GPL) to release source. This isn't a Samsung device guys.

Came in here to post that. Reading it, it states that source must be made available when requested, that implies it MUST be made available immediately (since I'm sure there have been people requesting, etc).
The reason they'll tell you (if you email them, like I have, just for kicks) that they have 90 days is because that's become the "standard" time frame these hardware devs take to release source. But they are violating the GPL license and it baffles me that they can do that so openly...
Throw us a bone already
While I don't agree with the OP about the development I do wonder why HTC hasn't released the source yet. You would think that after all we went through with the release that they would throw us a bone here and there. I really think they should have released quickly just show show appreciation for all that supported them during the whole debacle. This I am disappointed in...not the development.
A) No kernel source, so no custom fun goodies. OC Is difficult with precompiled modules that don't necessarily "fit" our phone. But our devs gave us one, that works regardless of how difficult it was. UV will be even more difficult, but will probably be done. We have CM9 with only ~4 known bugs! My wifes Photon still isn't that stable!
B) We just got an OTA, chances are dev will pick back up as these guys update their bases and add a few more tweaks.
C) I counted 20 [ROM] threads in both development sub forums, only going back 2 pages in each. What exactly do you want from these guys?
I thought it was going to be about unlimited data going away, still safe, calming down.......

90 days is not real...HTC has not been bad about releasing source (in fact the One series was released almost on day 1), but the problem here is that it is CDMA and slightly/vastly different, even though they have the same "guts" as their polycarbonite brothers. No excuses for the AT&T One X, though...It still is stuck in limbo.
It was barely a month, so not too shabby.

Yeah they don't really get any excuse at all, it should be released with the binaries. But lets not nitpick right now, its time to rejoice!

Thank you lololol
HTC isn't Samsung, you're right. Honestly it feels like things have reversed. Samsung is winning in sales and is also being a lot more friendly to the dev community as of late, compared to HTC. HTC needs to get it together. The One series was a step in the right direction, albeit slow sales.
If HTC can focus on actually ONE device, make it universal, and market it right, they can come back. That's what Samsung managed to do with the SIII and it's what Apple has done with the iPhone. It's very effective. This exclusivity they gave AT&T w/ the One X is a step backwards. Sprint's version had to go through a lot to avoid infringing on that exclusivity. They need to take control and not let themselves be dictated by the carriers. They need to respond quicker to the dev community like Sony and Samsung has been doing. They're falling behind and it's a shame because they make really nice hardware.
