Sony Acro S having chances of being modable? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Yeah, curious if it's gonna fly off. I'm mostly curious since it has a Snapdragon processor. Otherwise, I don't see anything else in it's way.
So, any chances?...

If you mean hardware mods, the biggest problem is the body. It's waterproof and stuff, so there isn't too much free space inside.

Depends on what you mean by that. We have custom ROMs for the S that might even be compatible without changes.

the xperia s' roms is not compatible with acro s. because it's not compatible with acro hd. but if some devs will do custom kernels and roms for acro s (hd) so it can be able to mod it. i've unlock the BL of my acro hd after ezSEMC sim-unlock by official method.

Happy Sola or Go users?

I've been doing some research ahead of buying either the Sola or Go (probably Sola) and there seems to a very wide range of reported problems with the Sola. The official Sony forum is a nightmare and yet the phone is so new. I don't want to rely on software updates to fix problems from a launch product. :crying:
But angry people are loud! Have you bought the Sola or Go and are you happy?
On a side note, I notice that dev in these devices is slow. With past Xperias, dev was much faster. Perhaps related to this, I notice rooting is harder, is this the case with most manufacturers? Is Google pushing them to disable easy rooting?
Rooting will be possible soon, and we'll try to do AOKP for all 2012 devices.

Great, I look forward to it. I did notice Doomlord has done plenty of thing for the S which is a good thing, seeing some of the most talented devs nearby. From there, things can be ported.

S -> Sola porting is nearly impossible, as at the core those are two very different devices.
Ah yes, the S has the Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon. Some mods might work maybe? I've seen mods spread across the 2010 and 2011 devices quite quickly.
So for porting it's the P, Go and U that also share the NovaThor U8500 I see.

You can port within one board. The 2011 devices had more in common.

Sony cheating their old customers.

That's what I wrote on Facebook, besides the ad about Xperia E.
I don't think it will change anything, but we all "geeks" must understand our power to advise our friends about technology!
So,another single core product running Jelly Bean.
So dual core devices ARE NOT required - either for ICS or JB.
I have a Neo V and I am stuck with an ICS version with lots of bugs.
So,what your company says:
Buy a new Xperia Phone.
What I say? Buy another brand.
What companies don't realise is that you lose the "tech freak" customers. And guess what? The tech freaks are the ones that most people ask for their opinion before buying a new phone.
So,you didn't lose only me,but lots of my friends.
And that is why companies like Sony keep rolling down.
Very disappointed by Sony.

Firstly, bold text is just a sore to the eyes and no one appriciates it however good your motives must have been.
Now back on topic,
Honestly, I personally dont know any "tech-freak" who settles for something except a flagship device.
So whats your point?
Also, Sony wants to make profit. They are a loss if they keep updating old phones.
To me, it is a logical decision.
I mean, anyone would have done the same thing.
So, there's absolutely no point in crying about it.
At east we got ICS. Samsung Galaxy S didnt even get that.
So be happy and chill.

Galaxy S did not receive officialy ICS, but the JB custom version of Galaxy S is better than our. They have a 3.x Kernel. Their team released a 3.x kernel, a jb rom with full butter. V-Sync is enabled. Triple bufffering is enabled. Then Yes, Galaxy S is better than our phone. Because Sony Stock Rom sucks.

Ok,then is only one solution:get a Galaxy S It's not Sony's fault that Galaxy S has more devs on xda..You know that Sony was amongst the first few OEM that released ICS,right? No one forced you to buy Sony Ericsson. Stop complaining and create 8.xx kernel and your own rom based on whatever you want.:silly:

I have Neo V and thanks to FXP i have a good JB Rom on my device. If you don't play state of the art games your phone phone is smooth in CM10 from FXP. It will be a plus to have Kernel 3 but is not a must for me. I am happy with FXP releasses.

Waiting for the release of stock jb rom for xperia,I think 1st should be xperia t,then skilled xda-er will port it to our devices.
Nothing will change n useless to create a rubbish thread...
Sony gave us ICS (for Neo V) before others, but it is laggy and full of bloat ware. I removed 85 bloat ware from it and my phone became quite smooth, but not satisfied with that also, I am using custom ROM and it is very smooth and much better than Sony. I will say xda-developers are better than Sony, so forget stock ROM and go for better ones.

So,in order to be considered a real tech-freak,you must always buy the most expensive phone and keep changing it for a newer device?
Really? How much money do you make? I live in Greece, the minimum salary is 580 Euros and Samsung Galaxy S III costs 700 Euros.
I am sorry, but from what you are saying, I will never be considered a tech-freak.
I never said it isn't a logical decision. It is a marketing decision. A pure marketing decision. And since I am a consumer, I am free to consider that Sony cheats its clients. I will not be satisfied with an extremely buggy ICS rom, and I will not be satisfied by reading silly things, that our Neo V can't run JB, but Xperia E can.
The marketing team has made it's point, but I am not one of the consumers who say "at least..." but from the consumers that say "you must...". Maybe I am a difficult client, but it is my right, and it is my right to say to all of my friends never to buy a Sony phone!

[Q] Moving on from Xperia Sola

Hey guys, want your help in selecting a new phone.I am happy with my xperia Sola but its been a year since i bought this device...and yeah i am bored with it,so need a change now.I am confused between Samsung S3,S4 mini and Note 2.Which one should i go for?
My specs for the new phone:
Good dev support
Official CM support
Nice features
Faster GPU-yeah i play lots of games
Nice display(no pixelation etc)
Should be able to fit in my jeans' pocket
Also want to know, how good s3/note2 exynos soc is in comparison to S4 mini's qualcomm krait?
Hello akp.ajinkya,
I think you've heard about Nexus 4 and it's price offer , I think it's an awesome phone for that price and it has lots of development activity.
Just check in the store and like you can see the specs are awesome!
https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexus_4_16_GB?id=nexus_4_16gb&hl=us
On the other hand, I have a friend that has the Galaxy S4 and it's awesome too, smooth as butter and has lots of development too. The price is higher but the specs are a bit better to.

What about the Sony Xperia Z? Now that is out the Z1, Z's price should be decreased. Also, if i am not wrong, there is already 4.3 android version for this device from the xperia z google edition.
Also, since you are a heavy player, why don't you take a look on Sony xperia ZU? Big screen great performance. Otherwise a good choice with less money is keeping your sola and get a nexus 7 2013

I agree Z1 and z both have some very nice specs, but the only problem here is bootloader unlocking and as being an XDAian i like to tinker around with my phones which i also did with my Xperia Sola.I know there is a way to backup DRM keys also which i did for my xperia sola, but don't know how sony service guys recognised that bootloader has been unlocked once so had to shell out some cash to repair its earpiece,so no sony for me this time.

Probably won't work... the camera in the Rezound is not supported in most newer kernels, the drivers we have are old, this is been one of the main stumbling blocks in development on this device since he have to do complicated work arounds to even get the camera to work in newer ROMs, the chances that the Z2's camera apk or utilities will even work are slim to none. Sorry. You might be able to find a third party utility in the Play Store that can do this at the software level though, but this isn't my area of expertise...
I want to use the background defocus, maybe I will buy a new device. is there anything you recommend? but not z2 of course, z2 very expensive

Umm, Project Treble might give better solution on XZ1? I'm no dev but it should work easier for dev. The shame thing is that Sony phones are few and devs might have no interest in it anymore. But at least faster update might be on the cards because of Treble compatibility.

To OP, imo, with Treble is native on XZ1, might be more enticing to try in the long run. But in the end it's about what fits on your hands and what's the device feel for you. My XZ1 is only 2 days, previously deciding between this and XZP, and i chose XZ1 because of single metal build and easier disassembly, plus it's still not much bigger compared to my old mi4c, only taller.

Better is a thing that is just based on a personal opinion. Samsung for a example is horrible when it comes to real custom ROM support thanks to lack of a fully Open Source archive for their Exynos SOC:s, which forces people basically to use cooked & modified stock ROMS 9 of 10 times.
And so on.

It is partially true as just by throwing an eye on the different Custom Rom threads and you will see the huge difference between what is available.
Xz is good in term of cookers and rom
Xz1 is not
HTC is good (my preferred cooker Lee)
Samsung, you are right lacking open source but some rom are running well
One plus is good also
Excuse if I use "better" not appropriately (UK is not my natural/born language)
Nevertheless, I personally really enjoy xz1 as very very stable and good performances
I am very pleased with my XZ1. I'm debating the XZ2 Premium.
