I recently got my photon replaced from Sprint, and it has 2.3.5 on it, and says that a software update might be available. System version says 45.4.13.MB885.Sprint.en.us. Is this the shipped 2.3.5 or did Sprint do an OTA when it got swapped out?

Someone did an update. You're locked down tighter than a ducks butthole.
What update is it talking about then?
Yes, sprint gave you the newest software on the replacement. They did the same to me.

There are multiple 2.3.5 updates. If you already have 2.3.5 installed the damage is done. Take the update.
Possible solution
So I tried complaining to Motorola, and they told me to talk to Sprint. This is what I came up with:
Russel: Thanks for moving the chat window.
Russel: Thank you for contacting Sprint. While I access your account information, can you please provide more details about why you're chatting with us today?
Customer: I recently took my photon in as it was unable to boot. today I received my replacement, but it now has an non unlockable bootloader.. I am a developer and need to be able to have it unlocked for development and testing
Customer: I am extremely dissatisfied about this major inconvenience as development is my primary means of income
Customer: so without being able to develop on this phone, I am stuck with no way to work
Russel: Thank you for sharing additional details. Please give me a moment while I research that for you.
Customer: alright
Customer: the Photon ships with 2.3.4 firmware, and an update was made by an employee to 2.3.5 which restricts the bootloader
Russel: I'm still researching the information for you. Thanks for your patience.
Customer: not a problem
Russel: Thanks.
Russel: Please switch off your phone.
Customer: ok
Customer: its off
Russel: Thanks.
Russel: I have refreshed the phone.
Russel: Please turn it on and try to use it.
Customer: it still has the 2.3.5
Customer: I was in chat with motorola about this, and they said that the only thing to do would be to exchange it for one with 2.3.4, but i would have to do it thru sprint
Russel: I understand that. I would suggest you to visit our Sprint repair center with your phone. We will fix this issue or will replace the phone for you.
Customer: I just got the replacement thru there
Customer: and the software was updated to 2.3.5
Customer: hindrances like this are making me consider switching to a carrier that is not so restrictive on their phones, this is ridiculous
Russel K: I want to inform you that your phone is under warranty, you can get the phone replacement. When you go to the store, please tell them to give you 2.3.4 this time.
Customer: okay
Customer: that is what I asked for today, but was still updated
Russel K: I understand your concern and apologize for the inconvenience.
Russel K: Jordan, all the manufacture replacements handled at our Sprint repair center.
Russel K: I assure you that we will fix your issue. Please visit there to get this done.
Customer: okay.
Customer: can you tell me the closest one to xxxxx?
Russel K: The only repair center is in xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Russel K: Please visit there. We will handle this issue there as well.
Customer: Are you sure they will exchange it for one?
Russel K: Please do not worry about this.
Russel K: I will notate it into your account notes. Please go there, we will fix it.
Customer: alright, thanks
Russel K: You are welcome.
Russel K: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
Customer: No, not at this time, thanks

You're screwed. Just give up or buy one off of craigslist.
is there a bootstrap recovery or anything like that for the users who have been sodomized by sprint? I know we cant unlock but the bionic community has PLENTY of dev support and they dont have an option to unlock yet.

OK, so I'm scared to answer this since I'm new and you are obviously not. However, I successfully installed Tenfar's custom bootstrap recovery on my locked down photon by following QBKing77's standard video guide that can be found in this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17302907 I'm on the 2.3.5 OTA update.
Please do not eviscerate me if I've misinterpreted your question
jordan.nave, you are a "dev" on Photon? And get paid for it? Seems to me if that was true you would have a unlocked device or know how to unlock it.

Thought I'd try to start a general Telus thread since there's stuff spread all over the place. Hope that's OK mods.
I bought my Telus Amaze on the second day out. Haven't tried to unlock the bootloader until now. Went through the HTCdev method and it failed. After submitting the hex code the dev site indicated it failed. No error code. Is there a solution?
I had trouble with the hexcode aswell, but I believe I just kept trying and it worked its self out, the htcdev website was being a dink half the time. I'm pretty sure there are other methods to unlock it
This is how I did it http://www.techzek.com/unlock-htc-amaze-4g%e2%80%99s-boot-loader/

Unlock support for the Telus Amaze had been removed several weeks ago. There has been many request made to HTC for assistance. Last I seen on their Facebook page is that they are "working on it" ...no eta.
I've had the phone since day one and only decided to do the htcdev unlock after It had been removed.

Yeah, tried to unlock several times now and no go. I don't understand why they would remove support for Telus when adding support for tmobile. It sucks. I can't help but wonder if Telus has something to do with it. Didn't HTC promise to unlock all future bootloaders? It makes no sense to allow it for one carrier but not another.
wow im glad i unlocked mine the first day i got it, this beastmod rom is awesome.
So, I called HTC Canada to ask about unlocking the bootloader. I explained that I had attempted to unlock and it had failed. She said, "It should work, hold the line a minute." She then came back on and said I don't see the Telus model listed under supported devices. I pointed out that prior to the tmobile being added the telus version could be unlocked, but now it can't. She had nothing to say. I asked if HTC is working on adding it. Her response was, "All I can do is refer you to the htcdev website." Basically, she knew nothing and was totally useless. She implied that all I can do is wait and hope. While I love the phone, I'm now regretting buying it due to lack of support from htc.
So unless things change, there's no way I'll ever have ICS on my phone since I know from experience that Telus never has any interest in updating their phones.
I decided to be persistent and have emailed htc regarding the bootloader. Here is the series of responses. My initial question was: Attempts to unlock the bootloader fail. When will the Telus Amaze be added? I thought HTC made a commitment to unlock all bootloaders.
Response 1. Thank you for taking the time to contact us here at HTC about the Bootloader for your HTC Amaze, Mark.
Here at HTC we encourage owners of our many devices to use their phones to their full potential. For many owners this involves unlocking the bootloader to experiment with different device ROMs. Although this is not something we would encourage everyone to do, we recognize that many cellphone users with a technical background may wish to do this with their device so that they can optimize the functionality of their device and customize it to suit their needs.
While we can't directly assist you with the process, because of the great demand from our customers we have provided you with the tools you will need to get the process started. Our developer site can be accessed at http://htcdev.com/devcenter. Once the bootloader for your device is available, it will be posted to this site.
This being said, HTC is committed to assisting customers in unlocking bootloaders for HTC devices. However, certain models may not be unlockable due to operator restrictions. If your device is listed as unsupported, we would suggest you follow up with your mobile operator to let them know your interest in unlocking the bootloader.
Thank you for your interest in HTC and our devices. As always, we are here to answer any technical questions or concerns you may have from 6am to 1am EST, 7 days a week for your convenience, or by phone at 1-866-449-8358.
Sincerely,
Tara
HTC
My Response: Thank you for your response to my question about unlocking the bootloader. I just want to be clear about your answer. Are you saying that the bootloader is currently not unlockable because TELUS has placed restrictions which prevent me from unlocking my phone? I was under the impression that I bought an HTC phone, not a TELUS phone. Are you saying that HTC is waiting for permission or information from TELUS before it will add the TELUS Amaze to the htcdev site and make it unlockable. If so, do you know if TELUS has indicated a willingness to do this and it is forthcoming? If not I will be returning my HTC phone for a Samsung which is fully rootable.
Thanks again for your assistance.
HTC Response 2: Thank you for your response, Mark. Please allow us to clarify.
When it comes to the bootloader for each device, all the information we have at this time is that once the bootloader for your device is available it will be posted to our developer site, which can be accessed at http://htcdev.com/devcenter.
Unfortunately we cannot provide a timeframe for the release of the HTC Amaze bootloader, Mark. We do apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause, and we thank you again for contacting HTC.
My response: Thanks again for your quick response.
Sorry to be so persistent but I just want to be sure I understand. Does a team at htcdev.com (or one associated with it) develop the bootloader, or does it come from the provider (Telus)? Would contacting Telus make any difference or are they just going to tell me that it is HTC who must make it available and that Telus has nothing to do with it.
Thanks for your patience.
HTC response: Thank you for your prompt reply Mark.
HTC, not your carrier, is committed to assisting customers in unlocking bootloaders for HTC devices. However, certain models may not be unlockable due to operator restrictions. Please refer to our list of supported devices to see if your device is eligible for unlocking the bootloader.
For more information on unlocking the bootloader please feel free to visit our developer page at www.htcdev.com. We apologize as we here at Technical Support cannot, and do not support the bootloader unlocking of any HTC device.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you Mark. Keep in mind that we are here to answer any technical questions or concerns you may have between 6am to 1am EDST, 7 days a week for your convenience, or by phone at 1-866-449-8358.
My last response: I'm sorry but you are not answering my question, but simply repeating an apparent canned response. Please explain what "operator restrictions" are. Aren't I the operator? By operator do you mean carrier? The Tmobile Amaze is unlockable but the Telus Amaze is not. Is that because Tmobile allows it but Telus doesn't?
All I really want is a straight answer as to why this is the case. How are the phones different given that prior to the Tmobile being added to the htcdev site one could unlock the Telus Amaze too. Since the Tmobile was added the Telus will not unlock.
Please provide a straight and clear answer. I am rapidly losing faith in HTC. Given the recent court case loss to Apple, HTC cannot afford to alienate customers. I want to remain loyal but I feel I am being given the run-around.
UPDATE: Htc's last reply: We apologize if you feel that we are not providing you with enough information regarding the unlocking of the bootloader. However; we here at Technical Support really do not have that much information regarding this issue. This is on the development side of things that we do not have access to or clearance for. We do not support or trouble shoot this area of development. This is really a hands off area for us.
With regards to your question regarding "operator restrictions". This is a restriction based on the carrier, not the end user. We apologize as we are unable to elaborate any further on this issue. Again, for more information on unlocking the bootloader please feel free to visit our developer page at www.htcdev.com.
So who know's where we stand on this. Maybe HTC's right hand is working on it but their left hand doesn't know. Or maybe Telus has no intention of allowing us to unlock our bootloader. I guess we wait. The GSII is looking better and better at this point.
I've gotten a call from HTC support and received the same canned answers as well as direction to get in touch with Telus' support system.
I basically told the lady that their support staff isn't going to be able to tell me any more than she could and that I would really appreciate it if she could pass my request on to her supervisor and from there on the development side of things so I could get a solid answer as to wether or not this is a software related issue, or a "Telus has told us not to unlock their phones" issue.
If its the latter I can call them and start up a storm of curses and complaints, but until I do get a solid answer, I'll have telus and htc sending me back and forth to each others support lines.
Response from Telus
Here is what I got from telus

Clearly somebody doesn't know what their talking about. Nothing will appear on Telus' website since it isn't software we are asking about. What a bunch of idiots.
This is typical. Htc says it's Telus' fault, Telus says it's htc's fault. In the meantime customers of both companies get ****ed.

Thank you for contacting us here at the HTC technical support department. I am very happy to see that you already have the HTC One and I am very sorry that this inconvenience has presented to you.
At the moment we are not providing the RUU for the new HTC One. If your device has been render inoperable, then I suggest that you contact your carrier as your contractual agreement may allow you to get to swap or replace your phone.
As an alternative, you could also contact our RMA division to get a repair set up. Call them at, 1-866-449-8358 from 8 AM to 1 AM , 7 days per week. Please, have the serial number of your phone handy when you contact them and our phone techs should be able to help get this repair set up.

What are those conditions? They didn't announced any official app but there was an app contest with some interesting apps though.

If you are a AT&T customer/former customer(i e have.had a number) your good you can request unlock code. If your new you have to be with them for x amount of days (40 or so). Or find someone willing to add it to their account so you can unlock assuming you've paid outright. If you were never a customer YMMV but most likely no unless they feel like it then it will be emailed to you

I'm from Argentina so I guess the only option would be to find someone from US who is a ATT customer willing to do the work for me. If any reads these and want to give me a hand with these please contact me via PM.
Typically, the conference organizer will give you instructions about how to obtain a unlock code from them directly. Calling AT&T directly won't help.

That's where mine came from - I was there. Wow, the demo gods did not smile on Samsung
Anyway, no - no info was given, and I honestly doubt any thought was given to how to unlock these "dev" phones for non-AT&T customers. I happen to be on AT&T should I want to use a sim in mine.
If you register on the AT&T forums http://forums.att.com/ then you can send a PM to ATTCustomerCare (http://forums.att.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage/tab/compose/note-to-user-id/192773) and tell them the situation. That team has been the go-to team for "edge case" unlocks. Alternately you can keep trying to call the support number until you reach a supervisor who can ok the unlock, but essentially you're reaching those same people via the forum without the hassle of endlessly calling.
You can get it unlocked using cell unlocker. It took them a few days but they finally sent me an unlock code that worked first try.
I must have been the first one they did because they kept sending me emails asking I had tried it yet. Because I was travelling I had to wait a couple if days.

My fiancé and I are in the same situation. We also got the watches at the Samsung Dev Con, but we're T-Mobile customers. (Also, did you notice that the Note 4s they raffled off were for Verizon?) We already tried calling AT&T, to no avail, and now I've posted on their forums asking for help and I'm sending the customer care people a PM, as recommended in this thread.
Worst case scenario, we get our friend (an AT&T customer) to get the unlock codes. But if it comes to that, we can probably get yours unlocked with ours, if you want. We're happy to help.
I'll post an update if the customer care PM works.
Last time I was at an Microsoft event and with the AT&T phone they gave me, there is a note inside told me to email someone with IMEI for unlock. I did and they quickly email back with unlock code. You should contact your meeting organizer, not AT&T or Samsung support as they have no clue.

If you are not an AT&T customer and are on T-Mobile or Sprint, I would recommend selling the AT&T version and getting one from your Carrier that way the Radio Bands will work for you.
If you are out of country, I would recommend selling the AT&T USA Version as some others have posted where they can't get apps if the Country doesn't match their Phone, or something like that.
That being said, if you are looking at selling the AT&T one cheap, send me a PM. I bought one, had it about 6 hours before the wife confiscated it for her selfish purposes.

I am from Norway and got mine at the Samsung Developer Conference. I unlocked mine using cellunlocker.net. I received the network lock code less than an hour after submitting the order and it worked like a charm.
HOWEVER: For other non-US-citizens, you need to check whether the AT&T-device has support for your local GSM-bands. Here in Norway we have GSM 900/1800 and the AT&T device is only GSM 850/1900 from what I can find on the net. Which matches my end result of not being able to connect to my network even after unlocking.

Here in Norway we have GSM 900/1800 and the AT&T device is only GSM 850/1900 from what I can find on the net. Which matches my end result of not being able to connect to my network even after unlocking.

850/1900 bands are for North America only. Only two other countries outside of North America use also use these two bands: Brazil and Australia.

It will work some people are saying that sms you have to use AT&T messenger I'm not sure but everything should work as a unlocked phone on AT&T

That's not right. If you use AT&T messenger on the phone (as AT&T wants you to do), you will not be able to reply from the watch. So, you will have to switch back to the Samsung stock Messages app.
MMS might be a problem but regular text SMS won't be a problem. For MMS, you may need to add AT&T MMS APN.
If you have gone through the other posts about sim unlock the T-Mobile LG V10, you must have come across users complaining that the Device Unlock app as well as the third party unlockers are not able to sim unlock some LG V10 phones, predominantly the ones that are purchased from the LG Partner Purchase Programs. Just want to check if there is any ROM that can help overcome this or can give the device unlock code popup when tried through the dialer? It's such a disappointment that I couldn't use this beautiful device on my network and struggling to find out a way for this unlocking.
For users who are having the same issue, do you think we need to go through an FCC Complaint for this?
I guess calling T-Mobile is of no help, no way they can add the IMEIs of such devices to the database?
I've been meaning to suggest this for a while. It's a huge longshot, because it seems to be limited to Samsung devices, but this fellow is able to unlock lots of their models by himself. I thought possibly someone could contact him and see if he might know anything about LG devices, or be up to the challenge of maybe tinkering with it. Wish I could be more helpful..

That sucks... oh well, we tried!
Hmm, I started a PayPal dispute with the seller and he declined mentioning PayPal will not consider buyer's remorse. Also since it was never used on a T-Mobile account, it isn't register in their databases. I am planning of taking a 100$ prepaid account, use it for 3 days, apply for unlock and then escalate the claim to PayPal as hardware issue. Will that work? Did anyone try this way with PayPal?
Did you try activating the phone by buying prepaid card? How did it go? I am facing same issue and looking for solution as well.
Guys I found a solution for this finally and it's legit.

Call and email her. She is the one to make it happen. Just don't waste her time of you don't qualify for an unlock.
Got my cellphone unlocked finally. I filed a complaint on FCC complaints portal. I got a call from t mobile within a week. The caller took my IMEI and asked me to wait till further communication. Today I got a call from t mobile telling me that they were able to whitelist my IMEI. I tried the unlock app and my phone was unlocked.

Yep seems this is the way to do it.
Hello my LG V30 H932 will not Permanently Unlock. The phone was paid off in full and I waited 40days like Tmobile requirements want. The phone which was brand new was replaced due to a malfunction with the display. So they gave me a warranty exchanged phone. And i have had trouble unlocking the phone ever since. Tmobile ended up giving me 2 more warranty exchanged phones thinking that this would finally solve the problem with the unlock. And after trying and trying the phone will not unlock despite being on the phone with Tmobile tech support for weeks (they tried everything from Manager Overrides, whitelisting the IMEI, putting the phone through escalation, etc) and they still were not able to unlock my phone. The Device Unlock App keeps saying "unlock failed". Finally Tmobile suggested using a third party online unlocking service which they even paid for and still this unlocking service wasn't able to unlock my phone.
Has anyone else ever had a problem with Tmobile not being able to permanently unlock their phone via Device Unlock App? I keep telling Tmobile i think it's because the phone is a warranty exchanged phone and this is why it's not working. But they said no that shouldn't cause any issues. Anyone else know what I could do to get the phone unlocked? Highly appreciate any advice and help and thank you for your time.
No issues with mine. T-Mobile sent me the unlock the day I bought my device (paid in full) and no issues usings other carrier SIM's in it.
Had two v30 with the same issue. For me allowing the unlock app to access all the permissions fixed it for me.

Yes I have all permissions allowed and still not working.
Before i got my LG V30 replaced with the warranty exchanged one (bc of the display malfunction that i had) the phone did permanently unlock for me. On the Brand New Lg V30 it unlocked just fine. Then when they sent the warranty exchanged v30 it would not unlock anymore. I think the problem is with the warranty exchanged phones. Just my thought.

You are probably correct, but that's an internal T-mobile issue. They have it so locked down even that 3rd party unlocking service can't touch it. I find it amusing they actually paid for a 3rd party unlocking service for you. That was them admitting they really screwed it up.
Okay today i called Tmobile one more time to ask about my IMEI. I wanted to make sure that the IMEI was in good standing. And that it was not on anyone else's account by mistake. Everything looked good. After explaining my situation again for the 100th time, the account specialist said she can transfer me to their Advanced Technical Support Team which Tmobile has never tried before. She also was perplexed bc on their end my phone says it is eligible to be unlocked. Anyway After speaking with the representative she said she would submit my case for escalation with their Technical Engineers. This we have never done. So in afew days i should hear back from them and i hope and pray that finally the phone will be able to Unlock Permanently! If not then there is nothing else i can do. I have tried what seems like everything. Unless anyone from XDA has the solution! Updates coming soon.
Also i want to add that at one point a technical support representative said that they will request that they replace my phone with a new one and not warranty exchanged one. He said he can't guarantee that tmobile will approve of this but he would try anyway. But of course i did not receive a new phone but the warranty exchanged phone instead. I just think tmobile could have tried harder to compensate me some how, but no nothing. But i think if after the technical engineers get back to me and still the phone won't unlock i am going to tell tmobile that i will file a complaint about this. And even share on social media how they have failed me. I will also tell them that I'm really disappointed that they didn't offer me any compensation for this situation. Tmobile has failed big time and what are they going to do about it??? Most likely nothing..
@michy21: This is troubling for sure. I gather you must still be with T-Mobile (or you wouldn't be able to use your SIM locked H932).
I too unlocked my TMO V30+ after 2 months using the Device Unlock app, and switched to an AT&T MVNO. T-Mobile reception is terrible inside our apartment, so I had no choice. But I worry what will happen if I need warranty repair (my screen just got a dead pixel today) or even after OS updates. T-Mobile probably won't grant unlock again without me being a subscriber.
They treated me horrible when I ported out, and I swore I'll never go back to them -- too bad because I really liked T-Mobile up till then, and would've come back when they roll out Band 71 in our area. So yes, this worries me.
I'll be quite interested to hear the outcome of your story.
You know I feel your pain. I bought a V10 off swappa a couple years ago and the same thing happened to me. There's a thread in the tmo V10 section where I listed the direct contact info of a lady named Jennifer I believe. She was the one to finally help me and make it happen and is quite high up with tmo. I went through all the same crap as you for months. She's the one to help you. Everyone else is useless no matter how much they will tell you otherwise. Give me a few minutes to find the thread.
Oh and I actually filed a complaint with the FCC . You need to do that ASAP too.

Good luck. FCC should be your priority. I highly advise you to word in such a way that portrays them as "unwilling or refusing to unlock a device that meets the criteria". That will get a better response and they will want to fix that to be able to close the ticket. You gotta play dirty a bit. That's what I did and it worked quite well.

I just finished filing the complaint and emailed jennifer. Hope to hear from someone soon!
I just got done talking to Nicole from the executive office at Tmobile. She called me regarding my complaint I filed to the FCC. And she couldn't get my phone to unlock, but she said she is going to send me an Unlocked phone instead. It's not brand new but a warranty exchanged one that is in excellent condition. So finally I'm happy with the outcome.
