I searched and searched and can find no real reviews. Lots of people here have posted links to various cradles for the TP2, but nobody who has bought them has offered hard reviews of their purchases.
I use my phones data connection to surf from my PC and wanted a cradle that would charge while synced. I bought this one in August of '09.
amazon.com/gp/product/B002FEPP3G/ref=oss_product
It's terrible. It always complains that the charge is not enough for consumption and the battery will drain. And recently it has stopped connecting to the PC at all. Windows will report that there was a problem with the USB device. Syncs fine with just the data cable direct to phone, but of course no charging that way.
Anyway, time to get a new cradle. Not really concerned with charging a second battery, but it would be nice. So what has been decided to be the best cradle for the TP2 (with the USB connection in the center of the phone, not the offset version)?
Thanks in advance.
Dan
Still looking. I guess I have determined that the one I have is the GSM Touch Pro2. Lots of sync cradles on Amazon, but none that have more than about two reviews, usually complaining because they didn't pay attention to the placement of the USB port.
I suppose if no one has really looked into these that much I might have to just embark on that journey. I'll just start buying the various models and post my findings.
Still open to any opinions others have formed about various cradles though.
I got my cradle from eBay. Here is the link, http://cgi.ebay.com/New-USB-Sync-Cr...wItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item2eab91cae4. It works and the seller was good. My only issue with it is it is difficult to get the TP2 into the receiving USB plug. I have to move it side to side until I get it to match up. Other than that it works fine.

What all have you done with it? Do you share the internet connection from the phone with a PC through the cradle? Does it get sufficient power to charge the battery(or at least keep it from draining) while using the shared internet through the cradle?
personally i now use this type of cradle as it is Universal i won't need to get a new one everytime i change my phone...which is about twice a year!
but this stand/cradle has worked for me well especially as i just use a normal sync cable which also means i can pick up the phone to answer it etc without having to unplug it..works for me.

I bought this same cradle, but am not happy with it at all. If I leave the AC and USB plugs connected when I turn off my computer, it charges the extra battery, but current flows back into the computer and keeps the fans and lights powered. The first time it happened, it had even sucked 70% of my battery overnight! If I leave only the USB cable connected, the phone naturally doesn't charge overnight and the extra battery doesn't charge either.
I had a cradle for my TouchPro that worked properly. The AC would charge my battery when the computer was turned off, but it didn't send juice back into my computer through the USB cable. I assume it had a diode in the circuit to prevent that.
Does anyone know of a cradle that works as I want (and as it should)?

Full review is on the way, I just wanted to let you know that I do have the prototype in hand and it DOES work, video and sound
[MALATA ZPAD DOCK REVIEW]
I finally got received my ‘official’ Malata ZPAD Dock today and wanted to post for all to see. PLEASE BARE WITH ME on my review, the pics aren’t that great and I didn’t run a bunch of tests but I have most of the basic info that everyone is going to want to know. Feel free to ask questions and I will try to run additional tests for you.
DOCK - HDMI Out, USB, LAN and power (no additional ac adapter supplied) – The quality is nice. The bottom of the dock has a rubber insert as to not scratch a table if moved around and as you may see from the pic there is a rubber insert where the tablet itself sits to protect it. The tab just drops on; pretty simple. With the ac adapter plugged in the tab does show that it’s charging. It sits at a rather upright angle (not straight up and down) so I would think that it’s something that you would NOT want to try type on without a keyboard on a regular basis, but it does seem pretty steady on there.
USB – As you can tell from the pic it did recognize an 8 GB USB thumb drive that I had plugged into it. I did not get to test a USB keyboard and mouse as the ones that I have available didn’t work natively with the tablet so I didn’t even try with the dock (yet).
LAN – Also in a pic, once plugged in the connection lights on the back started lighting up immediately. I turned off my WiFi and enabled the Ethernet in setting and it quickly got an IP and as you can see there is no longer an ‘x’ on the tablet LAN icon. I DID test the internet and all worked just fine.
HDMI – plugged the HDMI in and hooked it up to a 32” and it popped right up. NOW the quality was grainy and I’m sure there may be a way to fix that but I just wanted to get you pics to show whether it worked or not. In the pics you can see my screen duplicated and I started a movie (which I will say the quality was much better in the movie that it replicating my home screens)
All in all… I am extremely pleased and can’t wait to put it to use.
With that being said, I need to thank those involved for their work in spearheading efforts to get these in for us. I plan on trying to get a couple over as quickly as possible to ‘donate’ to a couple of people that won’t take donations for some exceptional work and personal attention (more on that to come later... )
I will update as soon as I can with any other ‘information’ in regards to the availability of these on US soil.
Let me know what you think!
EDIT: Just added a couple of pics of the innards (sent them to the dropbox for larger resolution). Ok, HDMI guys, what next?

Great work Steve. Is there any possible way for you to diagram the pin out of the connector (at least to the hdmi pins). We are working on an HDMI cable with a plug breakout board and have no idea how to guess which of the 30 pins go to which wires on the hdmi cable.
Thanks again
The pinouts for all would be good to know. Wouldn't mind making a cable with all connections!
Anyways, great review!
Can't wait to get ours from the group buy in!

that's gonna be outta my realm of knowledge right this second but if you want to try to tell me what to do, I'm not scared?
This Android journey that started with my phone a few months ago and is lingering to the tablet has made me pretty fearless. I'm now learning more about adb and ddms (just wanna take pics). It worked once and never since, something about java and crap like that.
Lemmie know.

This might be a stupid question but what resolution does it output to your tv? I am going to buy one of these as soon as I can. Very cool.
HDMI connect to TV..
Is it easy to open it up? Trace the wiring?
Don't think there will be much on the onside.

I hope that isn't a response to me. HDMI is not a resolution. That is the connector. It could output 480p for all I know.
Wow thanks. I can't wai to get mine. Dumb question but do u have to have the zpad rom to use this dock?

It doesn't mean the device supports it up to that resolution. He didn't even mention it. Do you have one that you have tested? It could be limited to a certain resolution. Is that so hard to understand? I know what HDMI is. I know what resolutions are. You keep repeating things I already know. I want to know what resolutions are available when you are outputting to your tv. Does it actually ask you what resolution? Some tvs and monitors do not go to 1080p. So please I would like for the original poster or someone that has one to please respond. You are not helping me at all here.

I am not offended by what you said. I am just curious and you weren't answering my question is all. There are many devices that use HDMI without using it to it's full potential. No hard feelings here.
I've got a crazy schedule this week but will do what I can to get all of your questions answered for you. I need to check to see if my TV supports 1080p (I'll bet it doesn't, cheapy) however I wouldn't really know how to test , in fact, that's what the tablet is pushing. If someone knows a way to test that feel free to let me know.
Also, I'm not gonna lie and they these aren't cheap. Unfortunately because of my OCD, ADD, and impulsive nature; this thing wasn't cheap for me to get here that quickly however I will take it to work today and see what I can do to rip it apart to find out the cabling for those that have asked. If (when) I get it torn apart I'll be asking you asking you guys exactly what the hell I'm supposed to be looking for (pinouts ect).
I will also find the time to flash a couple other ROMS to let you know that all works with each ones. Unfortunately that wont be happening until tonight tho. I can flash and have the ROMS ready for testing but won't be back to the TV until tonight.
I'm sorry that I couldn't do a more thorough review for everyone beforehand but as I said before, I really wanted to get something up quickly as I know that we were all wanting to know if it even worked at all for now.

Steve for a pin out diagram all you need is a simple continuity tester with thin probes. Hold one probe to a pin on the main port and begin touching pins on the connections in the back HDMI, USB, etc. When the tester beeps or lights up you have a match. Make note of it on your diagram. Shouldn't take too long and its totally safe for your dock.
I'm software not hardware, but best bet at a guess would be for to diagram the connector and all the outputs, then take a volt meter and iduno what level of voltage (something tiny obviously, somebody who knows hardware better on here could say) and just try to pass a small signal through each pin of the dock connector and use the volt meter to map where it comes out.
Again, I'm software not hardware so I may be way off here. I wonder if those fellas who sell the dock breakout would be willing for you to ship them the dock and they run signals through it and ship it back to you after they've mapped it for us. Would be a boon for them to know the mapping because then they could start selling us a dock to hdmi connector.. And a hobbyist shop like that, they probably know how to safely pass a signal through the thing to map the dock.
hi. i just got word motorola fubar'ed photon users by flipping the connections so it can't be used with lapdock. well, hopefully i'm here to save the day. i'm copying and pasting my post from atrix forums.
---I was curious if anybody was interested in buying these cables. Both cables would have the corresponding female micro input and the other side would be the corresponding micro male. The reason i ask is if you have a lapdock you are future proofed because motorola likes to make specific accessories for different model phones and likes to charge an excessive premium for these accessories. With these cables you , hopefully, should be able to use lapdock and future lapdocks, if motorola is good on their word, plus you can have your atrix next to your lapdock and be able to use it still. I am thinking maybe used like this you wont need a bluetooth mouse either because you can use screen for the mouse input which is loads better than the touchpad. Micro female cables seem to be hard to come by looking online. I am awaiting an answer from my source to see if these can be had. The minimum order is 1000 of them. I would probably sell these for about $20 shipped in the US if my price is right. Both cables btw. I hope this in right section. Figured it would get the appropiate looks here because it is unique and it is a question. Please post if youre intersted or pm me. If my source comes up good, and there is enough interest i will post back. And yes there would be discount for multiple orders. Dont ask how much. I dont even know how much yet.
Btw, i am getting a lapdock tomorrow to test drive. I am going to measure approximate length needed for this to be useable on right side. I am guessing in the neighborhood of 18-24"/45-60cm. It will be longer than needed if accessorized on the left side of lapdock. I mention this because there will be no custom lengths, colors or whatever. I dont even have any. ----
i also want to add. again. i don't have these cables yet. i'm not 100% sure they'll work. they should. they're just going to have females inputs from an international standard with hdmi/usb. so i don't know what problems there might be. this is just to see if there is interest. i have quotes now btw. if i go through with the purchase, i will probably sell for $15 for one of each and $20 for 2 pair. and notice i said probably. i haven't got shipping quote yet but i don't think it will be outrageous or anything. i'd like to sell these the $20 route btw. quick and easy. if more than 2 are wanted i will have to wait till i get the shipping quote because the cable already cost more $5. if i bought 1000 of each they'd cost me about a buck each but you can thank motorola and atnt for ruining such a great idea and concept and less than 1000 lapdocks being sold to date. haha.
Count me in!
If they work count me in. Hell I'll buy two sets just to sweeten the deal.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
they'd be very useful cables to have around in any case

I haven't ordered yet. Only 6 people interested so far. C'mon people. I know you need some female cables anyways. These can be as extensions from portable batteries or that extra length you need to sit back in your lazy boy instead of the couch.
I voided my warranty.
im game for 2...so 20.00
ok. so now we're up to 7. i'll probably pm interested people tomorrow or tuesday. i thought more people would be interested right away. btw, the lapdock is really nifty. amazon sold out of the $199.99 deal real quick but if it comes back i highly recommend jumping on it. i got 7.5 hours of use on one charge yesterday brightness one notch above halfway and playing ff5 on snes emulator about 4 hours. i'm using it with brightness turned all the way down today.
Test a prototype and if it works we'll talk business. You can count me as a maybe.
for teh DIY'ers
http://www.citrusmicro.com/Manhattan-307406-Hi-Speed-USB-2-0-Extension-Cable-p/307406.htm
take teh male end of this cable and cut it off, splice it with a regular usb micro cable and there you have it, a super long micro extenstion cable
google says price for that cable is 5 bucks. so its worth a shot. ive not tried this with any other cables so i dont know if it will work in the first place or if this cable will work, but im sure everyone here has a few microusb cables around, and for 5 bucks on this cable then it turns out to be a cheap way to use older accessories
reason why i said you have to chop it up tho is its using usb micro with the edges/corners. ive looked all over trying to find something myself and that is one of teh cheapest microusb females i could find.
Hey does anyone as of yet know if the Atrix Laptop Dock is working with the Photon, with the cable discussed here. I would be willing to help out... I make two way radio cables in my business, some out of ethernet cables... I am too looking for a laptop dock that will work with the photon
Photon works with the lapdock. The cables were for a smoother solution. I emailed monoprice about cables. They emailed me back. I suggest more people email them to show interest in the cables.
I voided my warranty and your mum.

Is the offer still going on. If so please count me in also. Just PM with info
Thanks ahead of time
If there was a way to make this into a bar that could fit at the bottom and maybe snug up to the right side so that the photon could be placed upright in the dock and secured in the laptop dock?
Please help, I miss my tablet.I had the common problem with the power thingy inside the tablet going out so i opened it to solder but did not fix.So i ordered the charging dock and waited for a month and a half.I get it today and was so excited to only plug it it and got power and charging everything is perfect,i go to swipe over on my arrow to unlock the screen and nothing!I have no touch controls on screen what so ever. But the soft keys work, they do not do me any good but they work. The home key takes me to my home page and mag glass goes to the internet.Does any body have any ideas of what could have happened or what i can do to fix this, please????

First, check for disconnected or loose cables inside the gTab.
Next, if it isn't a HW fault like loose cables, then connect the USB cable to the gTab and run this ADB command (you will have to install and set up ADB if you haven't already done so):
Code:
C:\SOME\PATH> [B]adb shell "echo -n 1 > /sys/devices/platform/tegra_touch/calibration"[/B]

I assume since you didn't send in under warranty for the power connector that it's no longer under warrantly!
Exactly where is the break? Close to (or at) one of the connectors? Which end (motherboard end or digitizer end) of the cable? Obviously closness to the connector makes it more difficult. I have seen a post where another use had the break pretty close to the connector & fixed it though.

If you magnify the digitizer circuit (lower photo in the pdf) you will see the label for each of the lines in the cable. Assuming the lines run straight thru, it looks like the ones that broke are the power & ground to the circuit (VSS & GND). That would explain the touch screen not working at all.
Hard to tell from the video where the breakis, but it looks real close to the connector.
Your best bet may be looking for someone who has a broken digitizer (outer glass) or gTab and is selling it for parts. I looked in the Marketplace forum here on XDA & there is one non working gtablet someone is asking $55 for. I also saw another one up for bid on ebay ($40 latest bid). You my have to ask if the cable is good on them.
Not a whole lot of options for repair. As you've already experienced, the cable is small & fragile.
If the connector has removable pins then you could remove the pins, solder the wire to it & reinsert the pins, BUT from the picture it doesn't look like they are removeable.
You could solder the 2 wires to the pins coming out the back of the socket but they look too small to easily solder to.
The last option would be to rigg the cable to work. There are a couple of possibilites but I would rather you consider the other options before suggesting a repair of the cable itself. If you can, see if you can take a closeup, high res photo of the back fo the connector where the wire broke. PM me & I'll send you my email address to send it too.

Its amazing what a couple of stripped bread ties will doo, lol.I took a bread tie and stripped the paper off of it,cut it to the length I needed and wrapped the remaining wire to one end and pushed the other end of the tie inside the pin hole, lol. It worked like a champ! MY Grab has been up and running for over a month,I just knocked on my coffee table, lol.Thank you for helping me out I really appreciated you trying everything to help me.I am so happy to have it back, now if I can just figure out why I keep seeing black boxes on my games when I play them I will really be doing fine.Thank you again.
First off, let me start by saying that I am fairly new to XDA, and sincerely hope this is an appropriate place to post this threat, and apologize if it is not.. I did read the read-me and don't think I'm abusing any rules.. Anyway..
I have multiple Android tablets permanently affixed around my house, which are integrated with my home automation system, and control a wide range of functions such as the lights.. These tablets are constantly hooked up to a charger, and are intended to be powered on during most hours of the day... An example of one can be seen in the attached picture labeled "A".. A standard USB power cable is run through the wall, and comes out in a hole next to the tablet, and hidden underneath the white cap that can be seen in the picture.. What I am trying to do is get rid of that cap, and the little nub it creates..
My idea was to find some sort of super low profile usb charging cable that can be run underneath the tablet and then into the wall where it cannot be seen. The closest thing I have managed to find to such a thing is this type of QI Wireless reciever, which I attached a picture of, labeled "B". Obviously instead of a QI charging coil at the other end, I would want some type of connection that can be connected to a wall charger though... The closest thing to this I have managed to find, is a right angle USB adapter I found on amazon, which I also attached a picture of, labeled "C".. This is much bulkier than what you see in picture B however, and cannot be bent to a near-180* angle, and run underneath the tablet.
Does anyone have any ideas or alternative suggestions as to how I might power these tablets without that little nub for the USB cable being there? I even tried putting a QI charger behind the tablet inside the wall, and using QI to charge them permanently, but that didn't deliver enough power.
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Unfortunately this isn't really what XDA Assist is about, our purpose is to point people who don't know where to post in the right direction. The best thing we can do is have your thread moved to the general Android q&a section here:
Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Please standby while we have your thread moved.
In the meantime if you find the specific device forum for the tablets, within the device forum there's usually an accessories sub-forum which might be worth looking at. If you can tell me exactly which tablet you're talking about I can probably direct you to the right place.
