My S3 is on LF2 unrooted from Thailand.
I got the phone in Thailand and had it running on AIS no problem. Came back to the US for a visit and ran it on AT&T no problem. I get back to Thailand and shut off mobile data until I can re-charge my prepaid account. I do, my data package renews, but the data connection never turns on. No Edge, no H, no H+. I have the right APN and it's lit up green.
I've tried toggling the mobile data on/off, toggling the use data limit on/off.
Any ideas?

Well.. it turned out to be something simple... of course.
The provider had for whatever reason shut off my data service and just had to turn it back on. Not sure why I procrastinated going to the service providers shop to ask them about the problem...
Oh well.. nothing wrong with the phone!
May be a firewall app (visible regular app or unvisible spyware) causing that? Or an antivirus app?

Im having troubles with my data connection. Basically, there isn't any data connection at all. Im sure that i have the correct APN. I can see the "E" (yes, its supposed to be E, its EDGE) next to the signal bars, but the upload/download arrows won't turn on. Its like its not even trying to connect. I can use WiFi fine.
I live outside US, in the Dominican Republic to be exact. Im using WetDream 1.4.4. Any solutions? Thanks!
Update: I tried with another SIM card with data enabled from another carrier, and the Atrix was able to connect to the data service fine, and i could access to the internet, but still no luck with my SIM. :\
BUMP =D
Try flashing a different kernel. I had the same problem and flashed faux's 1.3GHz unified kernel and now everything is working as it should

I called in for the exact same problem
The problem that was I did not have data on, and I had Data roaming on. So go to Settings > Battery and Data, and turn data on
Whenever I'm on WiFi I also have the 4g on display. Is this normal? I'm on stock.
No, it's not. When WiFi is on, you should be getting your data exclusively via WiFi so data over cell signal is stopped and the 4g symbol disappears. Are you sure you are connected to a WiFi network?

Yes I am 100% sure.
Same happens to me at times. I just turn data on then off and it goes away.

Hey this happens to me too!
Very annoying!
Also what's up with the phone switching back my preffered net work every time I reboot? I tik off "cdma only", but after reboot the phone puts it back to gsm/cdma...Grrrr
But yeah sometimes I have to turn off the data ( "connect to internet via phone") or it will intermittently switch between data and wifi

to whoever has that issue, do you use a data counter? just to verify where your data is going through
Happens on all my Androids. Not sure where my data is going through when they are both up in the Status bar. I don't ever hit my cap, so I am fine with it, but it is annoying.

Well, this is my second android phone and I haven't come across this issue before.
I would suggest that you check that your software is up to date. If it is, then power off the phone and pull out the battery, wait a minute then reinstall and power up. If that doesn't fix it, then I would factory reset it, but that's always a pain. If none of my suggestions fix it, then I'm at a loss.

This is because of "My Account" app by tmobile. It runs in the background and uses mobile network for connection to tmo servers (even if you have wifi turned on). Whenever you see mobile network turned on, just goto running applications and stop My Account and 4g/3g icon should go away. Its not just this phone, this would happen on any android device with my account app.
Rooted stock ROM Verizon I605 running 4.1.2.
I was in Korea for the past 6 months and just got back the other day. Before I left, I never had any problems, but since returning, my wifi and data are on at the same time, and it's causing me problems. Here's what's going on:
If I just have mobile data on, everything works as it should. If I turn on Wifi, it will connect, but the data connection will also remain, and my internet speeds will become spotty. If I turn on mobile data and just try to use wifi, the Wifi icon appears (with the orange/green arrows indicating activity), but apps don't connect. Facebook automatically tells me "No Internet connection," Opera won't load pages, Google Talk can't sign in, etc. If I turn mobile data back on, things work again, albeit slowly.
The strange thing is if I turn on Airplane Mode and then turn it off, leaving data off, my wifi will work 100% normally. If I try to turn on mobile data again, I get the same issue.
While I was away, I replaced the SIM card so I could use my phone over there. I messed with some APN stuff thinking I would be able to get data on my phone in Korea, but that didn't work out so I returned my APN settings to default. I have a feeling that's the source of my problems, but I have no idea how to fix it. I tried restoring my APN settings to default through the settings, but that didn't fix it either.
Any help at all would be appreciated!
If it helps I have been seeing the same thing. I'm on CleanRom 3.5 (Verizon Rom base) and PB&J kernel. It seems to be hunting between them even when in strong wifi signal.
Interestingly enough it's not doing it right now.
I'll keep a closer eye on it now.

In my case, it's a constant problem (unless I manually go into airplane mode, like explained). It doesn't work sometimes and not work other times.
I'm trying to use wifi at home, so signal strength isn't an issue either.
My mother in law got an ATT Alpha and tried to connect to wifi. It will connect and immediately say wifi turned off. When you disable mobile data it enables wifi. That makes no sense... why would the phone favor mobile data.
How can we correct this? I have owned 5 Samsung devices and never seen this.

Beacuse the phone has a Smart network switch feature. You can turn off in the wifi menu.

We turned that off and it still didnt work. we then turned it back on and it didnt correct the issue either. Is a restart needed when you do or something?
Kinda odd that in a home with nearly no data signal from the provider (they use femtocell) that it would prefer the mobile data network over the wifi.
apparently a reboot was needed. thx!
If I go into developer settings and switch off Mobile data always active (in an attempt to save a little power when the phone is on Wifi), I find the phone often doesn't enable data when I leave Wifi. I have to cycle airplane mode to make it do it.
Anyone else finding the same bug? Or even using this setting?
I've had dropped connection issues since day 1, with airplane mode being the only way to restore my connection. And this was with Mobile Data always active set to on.
Who is your Carrier??
Have you noticed similar issues even with mobile data always active?
When I go to building with no cellular and come back outside. The phone doesn't automatically reconnect to cellular, leaving me with no service. What a strange bug.

EE in the UK. Works fine almost all the time so far if I keep mobile data active.
Vodafone Romania, toggled the setting off in dev options as soon as I got the phone. Data switching works fine still.
Try going into the testing menu (dialer code *#*#4636#*#*), select phone information, select 3dot menu on top right corner, try switching around between Europe and automatic. I'm my case ,selecting Europe presented various weird connection issues , biggest of which was that the phone refused to connect to LTE unless I used "automatic".
