Ics - HTC EVO 3D

Ok guys, I know it been posted numerous times but I'm so confused as to what to do. Reguading the new update what are the right steps, do I need to flash the firmware, Hboot etc?....do I relock ota then unlock and reroot? What is the proper method of updating? Again sorry and thanks so much I've always gotten great help here....

It seems you have to have the newest hboot to be able to run the new rom. However, I would wait a few days, maybe some of the devs can get around that.
Otherwise, it all depends on if you want to stay rooted or not. If you don't, then relock and go back to stock recovery, and take the OTA. If you do want to stay rooted, flash the new firmware and hboot, then flash the rooted stock rom.

I thought that s-on cannot just flash the new firmware without relocking first. I think you should get s-off first as it wool make things a lot easier for you.

software update question (pre root )/hboot 1.5

I'm currently stock (hboot 1.5,, software# 2.08.651.2,,prl version 21083). I am about to root as soon as I'm 100% sure of the procedure from start to finish. My question is, should i take any OTA updates before I root?,,,,,,,I'm fully aware of the risk in doing this, coming from the evo4g( really don't want to be stuck stock for months, while everyone else is flashing away),,,,I'm a firm believer of searching, before asking, but if there's a better software version to gain root from, I want to be running it.
I do realize that starting out with this version of software means I'm stuck with hboot 1.5,,just couldn't find any posts referencing later OTA software versions possibly being better or worse to root from

Nope, it matters not what software version you're on. Only hboot, and in you're case, like me, you're screwed either way :'(
I guess I figured as much, thanks,,,I'm a little confused about current root methods for hboot 1.5,,,I see there's fastboot/copynpaste/htc unlock(not too scary),,,install SU,,,something, something can't unlock boot partition(no kernals),,,possibly fastboot install recovery in order to be able to do so. I also read in another thread, there are two ways. The HTC way and a better XDA way, of rooting,,,I'm sold on a better XDA way,,,any suggestions?
The only way to root hboot 1.5 is to use the htcdev unlock.

Take the OTA (2.17.651.5) then unlock with htc method.
If you unlock now and use cstom recovery, you will have to flash stock recovery in order to update to (2.17.651.5) latest OTA.
And it will also break root i think. so better update first then unlock then root.
I have some updated info put together from several posts that may help you on your tour if hboot 1.50

[Q] Getting back to stock

So, I updated to the leaked kernel and would like to get back to stock. I know we had to wait for s-off, and since we have it now I was hoping for a how-to. I see we have a back to stock radio but what about the stock RUU? I am still getting used to all the terms here. Learning the difference from kernel/RUU/Radio/Rom. I am only confused on kernel and RUU.
I do have s-off.
Thanks All,
XDA user are the best
I would avoid flashing the radios. I would flash the latest GB RUU. After that you can flash and downgrade your hboot to the eng hboot 2.11 if you would like. Then go about how you would have dine before to run ics roms with the firmware patch unless the dev says otherwise......
If I am wrong someone will correct me.....as I have not done this.
HTC Rezound via TT2
BeringBullet, are you rooted? I ask because I also installed the ICS leak and want to go back to stock but I dont want to root.
Does anyone have a link to the GB RUU? I cant find a working one.
Not the most recent one but you can update over the air:

Yes I am rooted, thanks for the link.

Then I assume you haven't done S-OFF? You will have to root to do the exploit. If afterward you run the GB RUU and flash the eng HBOOT, you can run stock unrooted ROM.
Word of warning; IF you flash the eng hboot after RUU'ing back to GB. Don't attempt bringing S-ON back to the device as you will brick to an unusable state.
Here's a write-up I made in another thread, just a quick summary of what steps to take. You can leave the stock hboot but if you wish to flash radios and/or s-on you will need to unlock.

How Can I Flash New Radios with S-On?

I have Hboot 1.15, Fresh EVO OS. And used the Regaw Autoroot following the OTA Update. I heard you can do this using fastboot or HTCdev, but I'm not sure how to do this... And could not find any answers (My concern is that the new FRESH updates use the new radios, and I updated to it, but can't flash the new radios)
If this has already been answered I apologize, but I couldn't find it.
Thank you for the help!
Dude there's threads all over the forum about this issue. Just spend 2minutes looking and you'll be all set

You can't update radios if you are s-on hboot 1.15. Your only option to update the radios is to relock and take the ota or install the new ruu. Then unlock again, install twrp, and then install your favorite rom. As many will state, never take the ota because you may loose ability to get s-off in the future. This may be true, but there is no s-off solution for your hboot anyway so you might as well bite the bullet now and live in the present instead of waiting for something that may never happen in the future.
Interesting. All right Thanks for your help. And as for there being threads "all over" I was getting conflicting reports, since I saw on one page where it was possible to flash using HTCdev with S-on, but there was no link or instructions given.
To address ur main concern, there is no need to update your radios. If you want to run a rom that is based off the latest update all u need to do is make sure your kernel matches the kernel in the rom. You can update your kernel with Flash img GUI, found in the app store. Just download the rom u want open flash img GUI select the rom and choose to flash kernel img. Once complete, wipe and flash rom. Njoy!

S-on hboot 1.12
Ok, so I'm rooted, s-on with hboot 1.12. I was able to do the firmware update and update the radios. I've read like crazy and I'm not seeing anywhere I can update the PRI without s-off. Is this correct? One thread said I can flash anything since I'm hboot 1.12 so I'm confused.

I'm a little bit hesitant to do that since I've read it can go crazy wrong and I'm not as savvy with the phones as the folks on the forums. Do I have to though in order to update my PRI?
I'm not sure, I've been s-off since I got the phone.
"We're coming from a pure power source"
I am S-ON HBoot 1.15. Is it possible to flash HTC Stock recovery, go to stock rooted rom, use OTA root Keeper and take the new OTA?
You don't need OTA root keeper because your going to have to do HTC dev to unlock the device again.
With that being said I wouldnt recommend taking the OTA or running the ruu to update because you'll be on the new hboot
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Not to mention the new base for stock has introduced a few of its own issues that the new firmware/hboot can not fix. Several people have attempted to downgrade thinking its the best alternative and brick their phones in doing so. The new firmware doesn't change much anyway

latest RUU is 4.03.605.2 which i think has 2.22.10.0801r, 2.22.10.0803r
with 2.27 Hboot which you can check by going into bootloader
im not a radio genius. So someone correct me if I'm wrong
but check the rest of your "about phone section" for RUU information
4.03.605.2 is the newest radio just google i and you will find it. I use this one and I think it has more stable 4G signal,
Be advised that 4.03.605.2 is a Leak. Since you are s-on if you flash the global leak you will not be able to take any official OTAs.
I would use the official RUU which will update you and then take the OTA that just came out a couple weeks ago. Find the RUU here:
http://androidfiles.org/ruu/?dir=Vigor
It's the top one, 3.14.605.12
Then if you are not happy with your reception you can always go up to the global leak if you want, you just can't go back down to a lower version without s-off.
Before you do this back up everything you need as this will wipe your phone and put it to factory stock.
You need to relock your phone to run it:
fastboot oem lock
And then you'll need to unlock again and flash Amon Ra before flashing a custom ROM again.
Question about "build"

So, this build number is confusing me. This is what I presently have and I'm not sure how I got here
Baseband 2.22.10.0801 /....803
Hboot 2027
Build 1.11.401.110
Seems like everyone else with this radio combo is on build 4.03 or something like that.
Is there any advantage to me upgrading to that build? I am S-Off and hate the prospect of relocking or having my internal SD wiped if I don't have to go through that.
Build number has nothing to do with firmware. It's set by the ROM. You're already on the global firmware.

Still a bit confused with the new OTA and what I should do.

I'm just learning that there is a new OTA. Whatever the case, I have not received it yet but am curious as to how I should handle it. This phone still confuses me a bit when it comes to unlocking etc.
Currently I am S-On, Rooted and running Shrike's PAC-Man rom. I kinda been lazy about staying up to date with everything and just got in my routine of flashing new releases.
Now i'm reading about this update and new hboot versions and wondering what I should be doing now. Should I accept the update in my current status or should I be doing something else to update? What about my hboot version, i'm still at 2.25. Should I be updating that myself or just take the OTA to handle it. My apologies if this is a redundant question.

First, the updated wont be pushed to you because you aren't on a sense rom, and i think the AOSP has the OTAkill.apk but i would need to look for it.
Second, the update is a good thing. not only does it have a new hboot but it has new radios, firmware and other goodies for the phone.
if you were to do the update, i wouldnt wait for VZW to push it. there is a zip that is in the development forum that you may flash to get the benefits of the update.
if you go down this route it will make the phone 100% stock. You would have to do the dev unlock with token and flash a recovery to get back to root status.
if you were to do this you also need to back up internal sd card just in case.
EDIT: Here are the steps you would take if you wanted to update the phone.

You can be S-OFF and still get the OTA, you just have to be pure stock, or you can flash the files in the thread which Flyhalf posted below.
On my last Rezound, I flashed the updated hboot and radios while already S-OFF, rooted and running Nils' ROM. On my current ROM, I got the OTA downloaded while still pure stock, then unlocked bootloader, flashed Amon Ra, rooted, then got S-OFF. Obviously, if there are any subsequent OTA's, I'll have to wait for a flashable.

No zip file of any kind will get you back to s-on. you must use fastboot to write to the secure flag. FYI
