Time to upgrade my kernel version - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I have alf v8 on my x8. Think it's time to upgrade to v9a. Just a small question. If I unlock my cell once would it stay unlocked forever?
Also I am just wondering: normally if something goes wrong with replacement of ROM we could always use backup from CWM to revert it. Yet if something goes wrong with kernel upgrade I suppose there's nothing we could do except going all the way back to stock kernel? If worse comes to worse that I need to go back to stock kernel do I need to perform BL lock again?

if you have followed all the steps correctly then it will boot, first boot takes a while.
Sorry to add on this thread but it seems that I dont need to create a new one for my Q.
I want to install WB v5 too but not sure about one thing, it says it's for unlocked Bootloader. I have Achotjan CyanogenMod 7.0.3 SE Remplacement ROM installed and I want to try something else since the battery life is horrible.
If I have to unlock bootloader, is there a way to do it straight from the rom I am in or should I downgrade to 2.1 first. Sorry but all the tuts about how to unlock bootloader are a bit complex and I couldnt find info about that scenario.
Thanks guys.

I have a locked bootloader and I'm using v5.
It works for both locked and unlocked bootloaders. Says so in the changlog.

So, I guess this is the general thread for problems with WB's v5.0? If not I can make a new topic.
Anyways, I installed v5.0c, but it never boots up. It either hangs on the Xperia logo or the screen goes black. It goes like this:
1. white Xperia logo
2. Goroh custom kernel loading
3. back to the white Xperia logo or the screen blacks out
I've tried waiting 10-15 minutes, but it just stays on that screen. I suspect it's a problem with Doom's kernel. So I pulled the battery, booted up into Xrecovery and flashed Goro's kernel. Now it boots up fine, but I was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem and if there's fix as I would really like try out Doom's kernel.
This ROM doesn't appear to like my phone or something I have on it at least. With the following loaded I can get my phone to boot, I see the lock screen and can unlock it but after that I just see the blue Sony background, nothing else. Power and volume popups work.
x10_2.3.3_stock-with-xrecovery-v3.ftf
x10_gb_stock_wifi_modules.zip
Wolf_Xperia_5.0.0s.zip
Nevermind, user error. Wiped everything and reflashed, radio, wifi and phone are all working
Hi guys,

Yes, you can flash every rom in x10 android development.
What do you mean with "newest rom by old toturial"?

Yes
So it is posible ? I dont to brick my phone.
On psp when you flash custom firmware on official 6.XX later you can brick you psp. (its only example)
But therefore I ask.
So I can flash every x10(i) with any rom. And it's not dependent on actual rom. Yes or no ?
Sorry for my english :/

The X10's flash mode is hard coded in.. so if you set up the flashtool, you can always revert back to a stock original or branded rom. Even if you crash in the middle of rom install, you still have the ability to go back using the flash tool or SEUS repair.
Most roms are a continuing project and in different phases of it.. some are from scratch and some are ports from other phones, all roms have different abilities and perks to running them. CM7 roms give extended system tweaks, and MIUI roms are almost a totally different framework altogether, but they are very smooth.
Kernels are the linux system behind it all, some roms will wipe the original kernel and replace it.. or if you go through the amazing process of unlocking your bootloader, you can have the actual kernel itself replaced.. the perks of this are mostly for overclocking & undervolting to get better performance and/or battery life.
I find no matter which dirrection I go with a rom or kernel, it always seems to have its significant advantages.. If you run into a jam feel free to PM me and I will try and guide you in what ever your venture is, I think I have installed every rom at 1 time or another lol.. best of luck!
even if u brick it can be easily resolved to the normal state...only sometimes it becomes a big pain in a** !! else its cool to go around flashing !!!

You can depending on what the u u want to flash.
some roms require the bootloader to be unlocked, and some don't so. Be cautious if not the phone will get. Stuck in a boot loop, in se logo.

Make sure that you flash the correct kernel too..
For example: WolfBreak V7B6 + DooMKerneL V06..

[Q] How to make most stable and fast Stock Rom ever?

Hi everyone!
I'm tired using custom roms for their instability and fc's everywhere for over a year I didnt found Rom that works perfect all the time with many apps installed so I just want to my phone work, dont want to flash new system every month again.
I was running stock with deleted apps, Set Cpu (tnx to gregbradley (edit: that was neoxx3m very good advidce, sorry my bad) and z-kernel for about 4 months and I was happy, that was one and only Rom that i've used so long. Yes it wasnt so fast but it was very stable and everything works so nice not even one fc. (kindda wierd couse ive installed z-kerner on my Unlocked BL x10 and now I can't and dont wanna to play and relock)
So i wanna repair my phone and get back to stock, root it, delete all uneeded apps and flash the most stable kernel so will it be failsafe from doom right?
And the question is will my plan work? I know that phone will not be so fast but will everything work and this is all I need or maybe someone has better idea?
Also have some questions about the newest fw for this Doom UB kernel. Where do i get this newest se fw?
Any help will be very appriciated.
Restore the phone back to stock using SEUS. That should do the trick

Last few ROMS Ive installed from scratch. So repair, root, etc I've even format sd card everythime i flash new rom. The question is:
Will doomkernel work on stock rom repaired in pc companion?
Will it be stable?
DoomKernel is stable on stock unlocked BL, but u have few version. X, S and one more i think. Look at his thread an try it.

It will work because when u repair ur phone via PCC u get latest firmware (2.3.3/3.x.x.x.x.x), but my advice is to try relock BL and use zKernel, i did that yesterday and i'm happy again!
Sent from my "z10i"
I told you that dont wanna play with bootloader no more, maybe for some time i would like to try some kernel or rom (if im not happy for using stock and doom) and will have to unlock again so im patience (tring to) and will not to this for a while.
Anyway strange is that i flash zKernel even if i had unlocked Bootloader and it work fine but when i tried to do this again ( didnt know that this kernel is fo Locked only) it didnt work

I tried to see a way to make a FlashTool installable pre-rooted rom, but seems like there's no way
As of now, i'm trying to make a pre-rooted custom rom for LWW, and Android Kitchen allows the creation of one. This, of course, will be a .zip file which has to be installed from CWM, so i'll still need to do all the steps you did to get CWM, so, as far as i know, we're stuck into rooting the long way

Come on guys,
i dont want be blamed because of any war in italy
please please :highfive:
From history you should know that Italians never start wars, we always wait for others to start, jump in after a while so we know which side has most chances of winning and eventually switch sides at the end

I'm on my way to create a clean ics rom PRE-ROOTED, i just don't have enough time, if you would like to give me a hand i will apreciate that.
In the mean time just root your phone the long way, update to 4.0.4 an then install CWM Recovery and finally install this ROM, is the one i'm using right now and run really smooth, and it's pre rooted.
If you need help with any of those steps pm me.

[Q] Rooted/UnlockedBL/Flashing first timer. I need answers!

Hello everybody.
I have just rooted, installed CWM Recovery and unlocked my Xperia P's bootloader (and nandroid backup) and I think i'm ready to get my device a new rom and kernel.
Although, since it's my first time messing around with these things i'd deeply appreciate some help/knowledge.
1) First and most important thing. I can't seem to find any usefull guides about flashing
2) If I flash a custom rom/kernel, can i go back to stock after that?
3) After flashing rom/kernel do i have to keep the files in my SD?
4) If (during or after flashing) my phone bricks, can i get it to work again?
I'm sure more questions will come
So, as I mentioned, this is my first time. I know that the ROM/Kernel i pick, is something that I have to decide BUT since you have probably done that hundreds of times and you have by far more knowledge than me.. Which ROM/Kernel do YOU prefer and why?
Phone: Xperia P LT22i on JellyBean 4.1.2
Build Number: 6.2.A.1.100
Root: Yes
Bootloader: Unlocked
