From an auction site.I don't have a backup of efs folder...

Sounds stolen usually no service means the phone is blocked
Hopefully it's not. Good luck

Yep definitely looks like it's stolen, and even though the phone doesn't show the IMEI the network can still read it and looks like they have blocked it. And this is exactly why I'd never buy expensive phones from eBay.

If you got it from eBay report the seller to eBay and PayPal and demand money back
It's illegal to sell blocked phones because 99% of the time they are stolen or a dodgy insurance job.
The first phone I got from eBay was blocked and I got a full refund when I reported him to eBay because it's illegal to sell stolen phones. Even though the guy had the phone advertised as sold as seen etc no refunds blah blah but it's either they Give the refund or reported to the police and they will get in huge trouble .
Goodluck I hope you do get it refunded

Their is no solution .
No EFS then cannot restore .
Normal route is return unit to the seller as not fit for use .
As XDA does not know the providence of this phone their is no help outside of what you have been given .
No IMEI sale is usually a stolen or blacklisted phone .
Contact the original network .

I didn't say you stole it, but it is likely that it has been stolen that is why the imei has been blocked
---------- Post added at 03:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:32 PM ----------
if you have the box then it should have the imei on it, take it to Samsung service centre and if it hasn't been reported stolen then they can fix it for you, only solution I think

I had this on my old GS2 after flashing a dodgy ROM. It replaces Your IMEI with an american generic code which unfortunately doesnt work. There is an app on Play Store which restores Your efs folder but this didnt work for me so was a repair job with o2 who sent it off to Samsung in the end.
App was called Ktool and another called GSII Repair but obvs that prob wont work on GSIII.
Good luck

Hello everyone!. 3 weeks I installed Omega v11 rom on S3, and locked after rebooting my fon and I have no more network. After i returned to the factory rom, but is same problem. S3 in the service.Past two weeks since I gave them,, and still nothing! they say they know what is the problem, but do not know how do it.Forums for Hungarians to do that (return the original IMEI number and the cost would be about 20 Euro.Ja but i came through but maybe someone knows in order to solve. If someone knows something about this issue as resolved, or already had prayed would like to help mee please.

Worst and weirdest problem EVER. [Phone part not working, sim, imei, baseband]

The phone part of my gs2 has stopped working without notice during standby ;
Sim cards are not recognized, the baseband is listed as "unknown", so are imei and everything associated with phone and data.
Wifi works, like everything else, it works like normal except for phone and data.
I was on cognition 1.31, I tried to restore a previous working nandroid backup, but with no success ; So I tried to flash separately various modems via Odin , but with no success either...
If I put the phone in offline mode it stays that way handgun it's impossible to disable it.
What can I try next before taking it to service?

Restore your backed up EFS folder as it looks looks wrong/no IMEI .
Service will require no root no custom rom and rom counter at zero for warranty .

Obviously is not stolen, I bought it from a local reseller in June, sealed and with my provider's sim/documentation ,it worked like a charm until now..
But how can this matter? Should I contact my network provider?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I have the same problem. The phone is not stolen I went to the shop and I called the provider to check if the IMEI is not in stolen or lost blacklist but it is not.
I went to carphone warehouse and of course they also straight away told me that it is probably stolen but later that backed from that idea and they do not know what to do with the phone they advised to send it to Samsung.
I wonder why the idea that the phone is stolen,
It has no IMEI no baseband . Stolen phone would have baseband and IMEI may be changed but some. Stolen IMEIs are in database and phones with this IMEI cannot use the network (also I know that the changing IMEI is not legal but easy to do) but ours are not. So why the idea that it is stolen?
Anyhow.
Is your EFS folder Read Only as mine and you can not change there anything?
I wonder if there is anyway to be able to completely remove EFS partition and create it again.
This is only Linux and I bet that there is the way.
I got myself second handheld directly from provider and now I am looking dor the way to clone the partition but no success.
Well if you've got all the documents and receipts then I would certainly take it back!
Same advice but still we do not know why it happends to so many SGS2? is it hardware or software error?
As i have 2 same phones i thing that the content of my EFS folder is not corrupted and i will do the test and copy it from the brokrn one to the working one and see if IMEI will change to the one fron the broken one? i think it will anf i know that i can not di this other way around because it is RO. Si if it will work that means it is the hardware

Your Baseband processor is dead, thats the only reason "Unknown" will be displayed, if it was because your EFS was corrupted you would have the U1 default IMEI displayed.
Service is your ONLY option.
Yes thay is what is happened i wonder how much it cost to fix the Baseband processor?
Finally a definitive answer, as soon as I come back home I'll take it to service, hoping that it won't take too long, this is the worst period for service, everything is closed due vacations ...

You should have warranty, since the phone is too young for the warranty period to be over, and it's not some kind of damage that's related to you, but it's their fault.

I've got exactly the same problem. I bought mine from Phones4u when it came out in late april, but i'm now in Hong Kong on a short term contract, and my phone is lost its IMEI and baseband after the battery died.
I took it to Samsung HK service centre and not suprisingly its not covered by warranty in HK as its a UK phone, but they will repair it for about £150, they said they need to replace the whole board, and takes a month to get in.
I rang Samsung UK service centre, and they told me to send it in to the UK for repairs.
Its really shocking that running out of battery can corrupt the phone like this, and how on earth can mobile phones not be covered under international warranty? a mobile phone is mobile right?
Now i having to use my old iphone with all my data such as sms and chat history gone.

[Q]Mobile Network not available

Hey I've been looking through all the other threads for the past few days and nothing has helped. My normal network is orange but a few days ago i believe it was after i flashed neat ROM i couldn't connect to my network i tried a few different sim cards in there but some worked and some didn't, now today i flashed Miui android and the sim cards that used to work don't now.. I've contacted orange and they are sending me a new sim card. I've tried flashing stock ics and gingerbread also stock orange firmware, IMEI is the same as under the battery.
Is it..
Blacklisted?
Hardware?
EFS?
Thanks in advance
Did you try this already?
Yeah, sorry should have said, this was the first thing i tried
Before contacting Orange, Did you try your sim in another phone or try reinstalling Original Orange firmware.
Going from one custom rom to another custom rom because of the problems you were getting, will more than likely create more problems.
From recovery, data/factory reset. advanced wipe delvik cache. Mounts and Storage format system and data.
Use Odin to reinstall latest firmware or the original firmware that came with your phone.
Then make a nandroid backup. Plus backup your EFS.
Once its all working.. Then and only then.. try a custom rom.
Thanks for helping, but that has not worked, i also got my new sim in the post just now and that has not worked either.. :/

Sorry to hear that. If you have already tried original firmware and your imei is correct then it looks like it may have to go in for service.
Dont forget to use triangle away if your still on ICS to remove any binary counts or use USB jig with old bootloader. Then flash your original firmware back to your phone before sending it in though.

Blacklisted surely Orange would have told you .
EFA unlikely if you have correct IMEI you can always restore your backed up EFS folder .
Hardware possible but as you have messed with roms my guess would be you have wrong CSC and not entered network settings manually .

[Q] Generic IMEI 0049990106400 / 01

Sorry I am new here,
Device Model: GT-I9300RWXPAP
I realize the question has been asked several times over but I was wondering if I had missed anything and what my options are at this point.
I recently bought a new Galaxy S3 from eBay, the phone was described as having a "problem calling out" but the seller promised everything else works perfectly. The item was sold as "faulty" in eBay. So the phone was sold for around £250.
I followed the guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264021 (making sure to backup my EFS folder) and found that an original EFS folder was missing a file called ".nv_data" when I looked for it with Root Explorer, however there was a ".nv_data.bak" file. So I tried that file instead and continued with the guide. However the IMEI number is still the generic one (004999010640000/01) after I rebooted it.
Is there any other way I can restore the original IMEI number?
(This isnt a clone)

Then you are going to have to use it as not a phone .
No original backed up EFS No original IMEI .
You cannot recover whats not there and i suspect a phone that is missing the IMEI sticker is more than just faulty .

If it could be fixed by software, it probably won't be sold as demaged.

In order to recover legally you need orignal IMEI number.
But you do not have Phone imei or serial number, I think even samsung service centre cannot recover it.
Sorry m8,but that phones original imei is reported stollen.
Why..
they removed the sticker on the back,so its almost impossible to recover imei except through samsung.they do it with the phone-id.

PAP is launch event phone or shop demo model and the PCB has RF components missing, so you will never get a signal even if the IMEI is fixed.
PAP probably stands for Prototype AP.

The item was sold as faulty, so you have little recourse for returning it. You were told what you were buying.
Your only hope is contacting Samsung, who might swap out the main board for you, for a price.

A faulty phone is a working phone with a problem, in this case it had a problem dialing out. This is a display model, so it technically could never dial out, and it wasn't a problem. He should return it and get his money back.

It was sold WITH the stated problem so the OP knew it couldn't call out when he bought it. It was also marked as a faulty device in the sale. There is no recourse here.
Lesson here, never buy a "faulty phone" in the hopes of fixing it... Not unless its for fun....

[Q] does a new mainboard come with an imei number in it?

Hi guys last week i sent my phone to be fixed due to a sound error. they said they changed the entire board so that imei number has changed. but i realized that they faked the imei number. i know that because when i checked my imei on internet, seems that its a gts8600 which is galaxy wave
now as the title i asked, does a brand new board come an imei in it or they write it themselves??
I believe the motherboard has its own generic imei number. Youll see this generic imei number instead of the shipped imei when the efs partition is formatted or corrupt. Meaning the imei that you see on your phone now is probably one that has been placed by the service center. Although what I don't understand is that why wouldn't they just input the imei no. that's mentioned underneath the battery instead.

Here in Turkey you have to register all imei numbers to the carriers in order to use your phone. i think the generic imei wasnt registered so they needed a registered one to make it work. For the serial you mentioned about underneath the battery, i think they needed my old efs backup to replace and since they dont have that either.... but i also think and just poped up in my head right now, my old board was working fine but the sound card. they could have taken my efs from it. and that will be the first think im gonna say them on monday morning...

That could explain why they added some other imei. If I'm not mistaken in Turkey they usually give you 2 weeks to register your imei before suspending it? In that case I would advice you to push the service center to place your old imei number and register your phones actual imei with the network. At least so that you don't face difficulty with updating through KIES or any other situation.

yes you are right about two weeks. my old imei number was registered. but there are some answers i need
1) what is corrupted efs? if i temper with the orijinal imei even placing my old one instaed, does the phone thinks corrupted anyway?
2) if that's so, im gonna tell them to register the new imei number that comes with the board. my present imei that im using now when i searched it from internet it seems 8600 not 9300 but also registered too.

Its is the EFS folder that contains the IMEI.

Yes and its illegal .

how do people recover there IMEI? is it possible on my s9+ SM-G965W

i have a galaxy s9+ , snapdragon, SM-G965W.
i purchased it on kijiji for $900 about 6 months ago and have not had any issues with it, until the other day i woke up and it was telling me phone not available, sim not registered.
after doing some research i found that my IMEI is blacklisted.
i cannot seem to find who the original service provider is to find the reason why it is blacklisted. ( any advice how i may do that?)
i realize it is not possible to root my version of the s9+
i have done some research and phoned around and i have found someone through a repair shop that claims he can repair my IMEI, he wants $200 dollers and claims it will have a lifetime warranty
i have read that people repair their imei and it may get blacklisted again, so maybe his warranty is he will just repair it again?
i am pretty tech savvy and confident i can do it myself if its possible, or is it just a scam

Relax.
I dunno how ur phone just woke up and lost its IMEI but its a simple fix.
Just figure out a way to install 965U or U1 firmware on your W model. I see people on here have got it done. I personally have a U so i am not hindered by the W problems which are candian models. Once u use ODIN and restore the firmware, the IMEI should fix itself (i am assuming u didnt mess around with ur EFS and root partitions or do any hardcore tinkering)

Thanks for the info guys will do some research after work.
So you believe this will fix/change a blacklisted IMEI?
Basically what I've gathered is I use Odin to reinstall a U or U1 or possibly W firmware and it should cure my IMEI? Or do I need to restore a firmware and then use Odin after?
What did you mean by a patched Odin?
Thanks again sorry for sending noob questions.

The concept of a blacklisted IMEI is different. U said recover in the title which inferred ur IMEI was 'Unknown'. If you have an IMEI number that is blacklisted and thus u cannot get a signal, odds are the phone isnt paid for. Now u need some people online like reseller.swiftunlocks.com to either change ur IMEI or pay d device off, the former being super sketchy but hey!

Yeah I did an I appreciate the info and response.
The website you sent I can't find my phone model on there ir any price. I have found another site that will do it for $150. But I mean who knows If that will work. If I get this guy to do it at least I don't have to pay him until i can see it's fixed.
And its 200 Canadian dollars, the phone is going for 6-700 on kijiji now, and I've learned not to buy phones on kijiji lol
