[Q] Best HBOOT for Sense ROMS? - HTC EVO 3D

I have been running ViperROM Nightlies for a little bit but now I'm on MeanROM v2.6 ICS. Yes I am somewhat a newbert, for instance I have no clue what ENG HBOOT is. Someone care to shede some light.
Right now I'm on JuopunutBear's HBOOT 1.5050 (I believe that's what it is)
Any help would be much appreciated!
TIA!!!!!!!!!

Engineering hboot 1.04 is just an hboot that will accept more fastboot commands than the others will accept. It does not have a locked/unlocked banner and it was probably the first hboot for this device. If you want to give it a spin, here it is. Just rename this file to PG86IMG.zip and flash through the bootloader.

For cdma

As for the best one for sense ROMs, that depends. If you want to run GB and VM leak ICS ones, then hboot 1.4 or 1.5 our the eng hboot is fine. If you want to run an ICS ROM based on the new ota with the new kernel, you need hboot 1.58.

I was on freezas thread in the cdma dev section. I just did the wire trick to get S-OFF today and I would be super pissed if i messed it up. But if I upgrade to 1.58, would I still be S-OFF?

Yes. You keep s off. You can downgrade the hboot later if you wish

[Q] Stock S-OFF...what now?

Hey Everyone,
So I just got S-OFF via JuopunutBear 0.4 on my Rezound and was wondering if you could give me some advice. I currently have a stock Rooted, S-OFF GB Rezound. I would like to flash ICS Ivysaur's ROM or the CleanRom however I am not quite sure what to do about my firmware. Right now when I boot into hboot I see:
Vigor PVT ENG S-OFF RL
HBOOT-2.11.2005 (PH9810000)
Radio 0.95.00.1118r/0.95.00.1223r
Open DSP-v10.6.0.7611.00.0919
I would like to put the lastest firmware on instead of flashing a patch. However I am not sure which one install. Can I install the lastest?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631830
And if I install the lastest hboot do I have to unlock from HTCDEV again or Root from Amon recovery? I am thinking now I am S-OFF I dont have to do any of that.
In the end, I guess I am looking for some better guidence on how to get to the lastest hboot for ICS ROMs.
Thanks for any help!
Yes your s-off so you can install the leak you are on gb so it's a big update I recommend do the whole update not just radios or hboot as they all work best together.

Hi sknight,
Thanks for the guidance. When I download the ROM from this thread does this include the whole update?

Quick questions about S-off Hboot

I'm faily new to the world of customizing my android, I have a rooted evo3d, S-on Hboot1.5. I'm curious about the two methods of getting S-off, one being the hboot 1.4 downgrade, and then the hboot 1.5 method. Mainly are big enough pros to having 1.5 (or 1.58 now) over 1.4?
No real difference afaik between 1.4 and 1.5. The important thing is s-off. I would avoid 1.58 unless you want to run the latest HTC kernel.

Hboot downgrade.does everything works ?

Hello.
I used the wire Trick.
My hboot Version is 1.53.0007
S-off.
I would like to downgrade my hboot to 1.49. And use revolutionary to unlock.
Can i downgrade to that hboot and flash newest Radio/ Firmware without Problems?
Why do i want to do that?
Becouse it is the only way to flash cm Roms.
After i do that can i flash ics custom Roms without Problems?
Does someone has a Download Link for 1
.49. Hboot ?

I think you can do that (I'm CDMA so ours is a little different). You could do the write trick and then downgrade your hboot after you get s-off. I think that would be easier.
Edit: I can't read.

Duh. I misread your OP. Afaik, that hboot will allow you to install the ICS custom roms too, but you may want to wait for a GSM user to confirm. Or try it and if not, you can always revert back. The beauty of being s-off.

Follow this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438. This should answer all your questions.
so this guide wont change my hboot??
You can flash Common Sense. Im pretty sure it uses the leaked VM kernel. You can flash any ROM with hboot 1.4 except a 2.89 kernel

You can always change Hboot easily if you're S-OFF. Not a big deal at all.
Search. A member has posted multiple Hboot's for your flashing pleasure in one of the posts.

The guide will change your hboot to 1.58 since it flashes the Sprint ICS RUU, but once you are S-OFF you can flash whatever hboot you want from this post.
If you are not planning to gain S-OFF, you can only change your bootloader by flashing an RUU.

Yes, if you want 1.50 for some reason. I'd personally recommend either the engineering (ENG) bootloader if you plan to run GB and AOSP based ROM's or the JBear Sprint ICS version if you are only going to run Sense based ICS ROM's. See mpgrimm2's thread on bootloader differences for more info.

i know this is a dumb question, but in what mode do i put my phone once its plugged in for the ruu??
Fastboot USB in the bootloader is preferred.

Hboot goes with firmware.
You can't just flash a different Hboot & expect the phone to boot.
Youll need to change the firmware to the one that corresponds the hboot of your choice.

That hasn't been our experience on the CDMA model of the Evo 3D. In fact, the GB and AOSP ROM's won't boot when using the bootloader (1.58) that matches the most current CDMA firmware.
Check out this thread for extensive information on the compatibility of various bootloaders with different ROM's for the CDMA Evo 3D. And everything was tested using the most recent Sprint ICS (2.89.651.2) firmware.

What I meant to say is that a GB hboot will only work with GB firmware & ICS hboot will only work with ICS firmware.
If the above condition is not met, then the phone will not boot into the ROM. That's all I meant.
I didn't say anything about the Hboot & ROM not matching.

Not true on the Evo 3D.
With HBoot 1.5, which is a stock GB bootloader, flashed on the CDMA version we can boot GB ROM's even with the latest ICS firmware, but not with the ICS 1.58 HBoot installed.

Won't the partitions be almost completely different between GB & ICS?

No. They are different between the CDMA and GSM models because the CDMA version has WiMax 4G and the GSM version doesn't, but the same between GB, ICS and JB. We use the same wipe methods regardless of what version of Android is being installed.
