There are at least 3 jelly bean roms in the works, but none for a daily driver yet.

Bumping. Because! It has been almost two months since the last reply and I have heard there are some fairly stable Jelly Roms for the Evo LTE now. My question: What are they and how stable are they?
cm10 is very nice...multitask works perfectly...battery life is awesome
HTC EVO LTE
Cm10, paranoid and aokp are the only jb roms that I know of at the moment. All are pretty stable and lots of people are using them as daily drivers. There are still a few issues like phone force closing on boot, flaky mms and weak proximity sensor (there's a separate flash that fixes) but on the whole they are fully functional. Some have reported cell and gps signal issues but everyone's setup is different...YMMV, I suggest giving them all a shot to see which one you like best. Cm10 seems to be the favorite right now, but paranoid has some pretty cool display tweaks. If you're coming from sense and you're s-on with hboot 1.15 or later, make sure to read up on flashing the kernel separately with fastboot.

Im a completely NOOB when it comes to rooting because I have never done it before, so everything you said might as well be chinese, lol, but no worries, once I pick a ROM, I ll do extensive research on everything you just told me.
My main concern though: My wife's Galaxy SIII sends over track and album art info to our Prius Nav display perfectly. Also, the "reading SMS outloud" feature only works with her phone, and not mine. Will flashing to one of these ROMs add this functionality to my phone? I have heard that the main issue is the version of AVRCP bluetooth profile that HTC uses in sense and also the bluetooth stacks library that Sense uses. I had heard that CM fixed this, but im not sure. And what about the SMS reading thing? what determines that?
Read my guide. It has a lot of info
If you're new to the scene, definitely read om4's guide...it has lots of good info about rooting, flashing, etc. all in one place. Much easier than hours of searching for each topic individually...

I have been running paranoid for a while now and have tried going back to sense roms, but love the cm10 jb experience too much to ever go back to sense again. I highly recommend paranoid!

Ok guys so I have been reading on the thread you guys recommended, and i still havent pulled the trigger on rooting. I do have a few questions:
-One of the main things I noticed is, if I get CM10, I lose the awesome camera the EVO has. Im assuming if I get a rooted sense based ROM, I would still keep my awesome camera?
-One of the main reasons I am rooting is because I have heard CM10 has a better bluetooth stack built in, and as such it should work much better with my car, sending over track and album artist, as well as the ablity to browse music files via bluetooth through my nav screen. Or at the very least, I want to be able to get back the USB plug in functionality I used to have on the EVO 3D. When i plug in my Evo LTE in my car's USB, nothing happens. So, is there a ROM that allows me to keep the sense camera but also has the bluetooth/USB host capabilities I am looking for?
-When I root, does everything get wiped out and I have to reinstall all my apps, contacts, etc?
I'm on CM10 for the past month and am really liking it. Since I was also disappointed by the camera app I went ahead and tried the Jelly Bean 4.2 camera, and it works wonderfully. It's not 100% as awesome as HTCs, but it's enough for me. Look for the JB 4.2 apps - it's floating around somewhere.
As for BT - I don't think CM10 has APT-X, so audio quality would be lower on compatible devices. I think I notice a difference on my BT stereo headset, but it may be my imagination. Again - small price to pay for using CM10.

thanks for the reply, but I am not as concerned with audio quality as I am with my track/artist/playlist information showing up on my car's LCD Nav thing. Any ideas on what I can do to get that to happen? Does CM10 have this? And what is APT-X? What I was talking about is AVRCP. Stock sense does not have a high enough level (version) of AVRCP to do what I want. Somewhere on another thread I was told that CM does have this, but I have since been unable to confirm it.

Your probably better off waiting for the official jelly bean update from HTC which *should* be in the next month or so. It might be included in that. As far as cm10 goes, you have nothing to lose by trying it to see... Just back everything up before you root and then try it to find out.

Hi there, it's me again!
After being away for quite some time due to a lot of issues with my netbook, and being busy with school, I recently checked the progress on the Flyer. As expected, Dexter did an excellent job already on Jelly Bean.
I tried the ROM, and I gotta say I'm quite satisfied with it. FWIW, I am thinking about getting the 3.0 kernel from the DHD to run on the Flyer. But, I have another project I'm thinking about which sounds more interesting.
So, is anyone interested in Open WebOS on the HTC Flyer? I am considering to give it a try this week, but only if there is some potential interest from the community. It would pretty much be an effort where I try to combine various challenges: getting WebOS to boot, and getting the Raspberry Pi to compile Android kernels, since my netbook does a horrible job at this.
Please report if it sounds interesting for you, and if I get positive answers, I'll do some research on the structure of OWOS.
Although WebOS seems nice I'd rather see you beat the crap out of JB and try to get it fully working until you say "I can't take this any further".

I'm not sure, I actually think JB has 1 major dev working on it. Sometimes it's better to have multiple, good, mostly stable options too chose from than 1 completely perfect one.
That aside, I don't use bluetooth headset so some people who do really want the devs to pool their work into that.
I'm all for web os though. And dual boot (don't push yourself ) would be awesome.

I am using the latest JB ROM atm., and I'm wondering (since I haven't followed the development the last 2 months): what is really broken atm? Aside from bluetooth.
Mine VM with Ubunto is stil there for u if u decide to give Flyer some more of your time. Am I interested? I am interested in Flyer with as much hardware working posible; working BT for voice calls, music and movei playback. As long as those work well i dont care even if it is Win 3.11EE if it runs nice and smooth. However Geting camera and hw movie playback suport on JB would be very nice and would get the ROM to TOP level. U cracked those nuts on ICS; any way u give it a try on JB?
Welcome Back CHAOS I agree with Antis (even though I don't really Know the advantage of WebOs) i was hoping that You could do something like get the front camera working for Skype

No HW playback support, no cammera and videorecorde, some flickering i belive,... rest is nearlly all there! So close to top BUT BT is FIXED (no report if for calls as well but rest been tested and reported 100% working BT functionalities)
I am not sure dual boot would be neat but i know thats asking alot. but like every one else don't matter to me if it JB OR ICS as long as we can get a nice and smooth working rom that has BT good HW for movies ect and cameras working i will be as happy as a puppy with to peckers ....

while I'm a huge fan of webOS and would love to see it on the flyer I think your time may be better utilized by teaming with Dexter to finish ironing out the wrinkles in his JB build first, then perhaps a dual-boot option?

Slide out keyboard had very small keys and the slider mechanism was very poor. Screen was also very small compared to today's phones. The only nice thing was wireless charging. That was awesome.

So I was using that twisted build but always have issues with something and the longer I run it, it just starts going haywire. Seems all the newer roms that are more active are sense based and I cannot for the life of me get used to that terrible UI. I hate everything about it.
I'd like just stock ICS, so what's out there? Thanks guys :silly:

You will need to register an account to view this forum. However he has a very good non-sense rom that runs fast and is completely stable. Just make sure you update to the newest radios and read the instructions.
weird, I thought I looked at all of his roms and they all had Sense UI, Thanks man!
It has most of the sense elements removed but it is still sense-based (if I understand correctly)
You could also try santod's misenseless rom. It's desensed, uses milauncher, and has some miui theming.

this is more of a Question then development, Mods can we get this moved to the correct location?
This thread needs to be moved to q and a. Anyhow, jblacks cm9 runs great for a dd. I ran it for almost 2 months and helped with building it. Only complaint is the ril kind of sucks and data drops a lot. If that bothers you though unsense by Santod is a great alternative.

Done.
I haven't flashed in well over a year, and I'm still running one of the first stable ICS builds. That has to change.
Can anyone recommend a good JB-based ROM for me? My priorities are stability, battery life and features, in roughly that order.
I'm thinking of trying BeanStalk 4.3.05 or ParanoidKANGDroid 2.3.3, but am definitely open to other suggestions
Thanks!

so many people ask this same question and anyone with real experience here is going to tell you..................
every ROM is going to act differently on every phone. it also depends on what kind of user you are.
common rule here (im not being a jerk, you should know this) is read, read, read.
to show you how often someone asks this very question, go back out one screen and down about 5 threads "looking for an excellent ROM"
I have posted my honest opinions and what you can expect from all available firmwares.
good luck my friend

This is why I am trying to describe what kind of user I am. To reiterate, my priorities are stability, battery life, functionality and speed, roughly in that order.
To elaborate, I want:
Something that will run smoothly
Something who's battery will last for a day if I use it with moderation
Something that, while not necessarily on the bleeding edge of development, has lots of new features
Something with a smooth UI and good, modern capabilities
In terms of specific features that I'd like to try or find necessary, I want a ROM that supports the Jelly Bean panoramic picture mode; one that supports Wifi Hotspots; one with a good toggle menu for preserving battery and turning on / off common features, flash, etc.; and one that has a variety of other useful things to explore / try out. Maybe something with good audio capabilities?

again, if you haven't, read the other post.
from the sounds of it, you may want to go with 4.1.2. it is based off of Touchwiz. SUPER solid and great support from the community. not many updates. it is so solid, it does not need them. but others are still there for support.
personal choice.......PADAWAN........others have had some issues with lag (biggest complaint) and I refer them ( an I have the most thanks on thread) to p.355-378. read through those pages. obviously others have not figured it out cause they don't read. those setting had my phone running better than it ever ran, even out of box.
the only way you will know is to try for yourself. but it is lie Trident gum.............4 out of 5 dentist surveyed.........
as always, good luck in your hunt

I want to make sure that I understand this correctly. The latest update pushed out by SAMSUNG for the i717 was 4.1.2, so therefore the roms built off of 4.1 are using SAMSUNG TouchWiz as a base. The one's built off of 4.2 are using some other base, be it AOKP, CM, etc. Is this correct?
I'm not so certain that I want to go to a 4.1 ROM. Looking over the feature-set of Google's 4.2, I'm seeing quite a bit that I want - for instance, I *really* want Photo Sphere.
I think that if there's a stable version of 4.3 that isn't a battery hog, and that has a decent extended feature-set on-top of it, then that's what I want. That said, if 4.3 is very unstable I'm up for trying 4.2. The only way I'd want 4.1 is if there is no 4.2 or above that is good with battery usage and more-or-less stable.
So, any recommendations with that in mind?

first part..................correct.
that is the good thing about 4.2, highly customizable, but you sacrifice stability. lots of updates, but I am afraid that is because there is mainly one thing that is trying t be fixed, RANDOM REBOOTS. some have success controlling them with an alternate KERNAL which provides the ability to OC/UV, but it can be a constant maintinence on your part. honestly, there is never a good time for a reboot. 4.2 is a much bigger battery hog and a reboot is only going to suck more of it.
second part.................. that's what APK's are for. if it is one simple app ( for whatever personal reason) someone is stuck on, any times you can install it that way. just download it through browser on phone and install with file manager of choice.
third part.................. not that 4.3 is more unstable or battery hog. (I have better battery on 4.3) not necessarily unstable. I just think it is still very early in the game and trying to get some kinks worked out. 4.1.2 was the same way. everybody is impatient, just the nature of the beast. give the amazing and talented developers time. I find 4.3 very smoooooooth, but I have been getting bootloops and I am thinking it is most likely my APP2ZIPP file (which has my apps) I am flashing. so I don't have to keep installing all my same apps one at a time. don't think it is working with 4.3 transition.
the rest is up to you my friend. its all about what YOU want and what you are willing to tolerate as far as constant maintinence.
oh and by the way I am NOT running PADAWAN right now...........its been to solid. I was getting bored. I am addicted to flashing maybe. I ran it for months, flawlessly. since coming off, the longest I have been on any ROM is MAYBE 3 days before changing whether it be the reboots, battery or bootloop issues.
I am not bored though, it definitely give me troubleshooting experience and enables me to help others which I am enjoying

Do all of the 4.2 ROMs suffer random reboots? I see you mention that an alternate kernel may help, but are there any ROMs that have either incorporated in said kernel or that have found another fix of some kind for stability?
Also, with 4.3: are the random reboots an issue there as well? What kinds of kinks are current issues?

On 4.2 they have option to OC/UV with stock kernels. It can just be a constant adjustment in those values to minimalize the reboots. With 4.3 I guess you can say I had reboots, my problem was the reboot would never complete and would just bootloop.
I am just being patient and giving it some time. I know many are working on it cause there is so little action in development thread. Many impatient members have driven developers away by constant pestering. I think many have learned that lesson. That why it is so quiet.
Trust me, it is the calm before the storm

Hmmm... what 4.3 were you using that gave you boot-loops? I'm thinking of trying PAC-Man, and I'm debating between the 4.2.2 and the 4.3 - as it seems that the latter is fairly stable from what I've surmised.

anything 4.3 was doing it. again I am thinking it may have been my APP2ZIPP file.
here is a tip as to what I do when contemplating new ROM...............
obviously I am looking at original OP post for features to what I want. then I go to last page of thread and read backwards. this gives me the most recent problem ROM is having and hint as to whether there is a fix. if it is something I can deal with, then I go for it. if its too much hassle, then I don't.
I thought I was the only one... I I do the exact same thing capt.

Since you, captemo try a lot of ROMs, which 4.2.2 ROM, that you have tried, has lasted the longest without a reboot (how many days)?
Carbon 1.8 was the longest for me thus far, 4 days but after that it went into a reboot frenzy and would reboot 2-3 times a day. Now I'm on CM 10.1 8/23 nightly and it has lasted 2.5 days before reboot. Let's see if it will last longer than that.
Since it's become clear to me that the main issue here is finding something both modern and stable, I've started a different thread that makes that clear in the title. It can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2425090

again, everybody's phone is different. I am not sure why, but my phone cant run CARBON, any version. which kind of bums be out cause of all the options available. many of the 4.2's would do exactly that for me, I get a couple of days out of them, then reboots galore. Carbon, (4.2, 4.3, alternate kernels) is just a no go for me. it's like my phone has an allergy.
it was always suggested to me to try stock KERNEL and let it settle for couple days and hell if I had to flash something, might as well flash a new ROM. then I ran out of ROM's. that's when I started trying KERNELS.
most recently, I have had success with BLOWNFUZE's AOKP and compatible UBER (I think it in OP) and also ROOTBOX w/ UBER. ROOTBOX has some pretty cool features. different sounds and statusbar changing colors in different menus. pretty neat. AOKP, just a bit more stable maybe. I am not sure I had the OC/UV settings dialed in just right though. battery wasn't quite lasting me. want to go back and tweak those some more.
in the meantime, and I don't know why I haven't tried in the past, I have been running SONS of ANDROID. 6 days, stock kernel, NO REBOOTS
in between, I am trying to keep my eyes open for some breakthrough's on 4.3. of course I am also trying work out my options for getting the MEGA 6.3.
again, good luck, read, and remember all phones are just a smidge different. that's smidge can be ALL the difference
So with Android version 4.4 KitKat being able to run on devices with as low as 512 MB of RAM comfortably, will this allow rom developers to further develop/improve custom roms for the Amaze with Android 4.4 with little to no bugs in the future? Let the speculation begin...:fingers-crossed:
I wish they would develop that for this device, but I'm not so certain that they will because we don't even have an unofficial 4.3 port as yet (well, as far as I've looked. Only 4.0, 4.1, 4.2.......)

Only if HTC, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments provide the corresponding updated sources for development. Otherwise what few developers that are left here will still be banging their heads against the wall to port it.

I prefer the old Sense Keyboard. how can I get it back on my CM 10 rom ?
so far I managed to install CM10 rom
updated the contact manager to get it to synchronize with Facebook
but what it lacks is the snapshot ability using power + home button which doesnt work on CM10 rom
and the filp to silent the phone... also the volume controls are not so good during calls.
the volume is always at its highest even if I lower it. also the speaker is not as high as it used to be on the ICS rom
but I have to say CM10 is a better battery saver
runs smoother then ICS stock
and looks good
Sense Jellybean...
Once we have sense Jellybean, the next working will be KitKat.
We are very close to having the very first Sense jellybean rom
4.3 roms
The evervolv rom is currently the best "4.3" rom for the Amaze. Found here: evervolv.com/devices/ruby.
Although, the mobile data is very choppy. It will connect but it's seems to when it wants. Not sure about the intricacies of that. But, a bit of a dealbreaker for me at this point. The good news is evervolv has been updating this rom with
tweaks and bug fixes everyday. So, it looks very promising. Also note, I have found an "unofficial" cm10.2
build by sportsstar89 but the sound does not work. If you search 'ruby' on goo.im you will find it. I would post a link
but the site seems to be down atm. I am currently running cm10/1006-nightly, what i've found to be the best jelly bean
rom at this point. There is also an unofficial cm10.1 build that is pretty good as well. It can be found here: droidfirmwares.com/cm10-1-android-4-2-2-jelly-bean-custom-firmware-for-htc-amaze-4g.html/2. I ran it for quite a while w/o any noticeable
trouble. I just prefer official cm builds i guess.

I don't think you can get the keyboard on CM10 unless there's an app or someone made a port or something.
The snapshot feature works differently with Cyanogenmod cause they use the long press power button then selecting screenshot, though you'll have to enable the feature in the system settings.
Flip to silent the phone? Must be a feature I don't use lol
Idk, I liked the ICS stock tmobile (I de-bloated it myself using root uninstaller. Got rid of anything pertaining to t-mobile and it runs like a dream.)
Nenamark2 benchmark averages at 47 fps.
Antutu results are a little over 9000 (Let the Dragon Ball Z jokes start now lmao)
Overclocking is something that I would have loved to do on this stock rom, but I'll just run V6 Supercharger script instead.
Though pushing min. clock to about 1.2ghz gives a slight difference in benchmarks.
Hmmmmmm.......
It would take a lot of developer skills to get it on this device. CM said if they didn't officially support the device before, they won't start now regardless of ram specs. The s4 has it, but even better there is a dev for the international s4 that has made a 4.3.1 ROM which is made up of 85% straight Google source with 15% cm commits to get it to work on our device. And IMO, aosp is better and more stable than cm10.2 and has way less lag.

Unfortunatelly jeepers007 bricked his device
The problem is with mounting the sdcards. Google changed how the cards are mounted and we don't know how to get both cards to mount while the phone isn't connected to the computer.
And exactly what happened to Ravike is what happened to jeepers.

Because it lookin that jeepers007 bricked his phone...
What one should not do while porting Roms...!??

Chevy perhaps you guys are going about things the wrong way. Instead of putting so much energy into getting a 3.4 kernel up and running maybe its better to stay with 3.0 and work around it. This is what the most successful developers have been doing on other legacy devices. For example, Tytung is still using basically the same kernel 2.6.29 for every version of Android since Froyo and his version of JellyBean-4.3 / CM-10.2 is much further along than anyone here is. He has faced the same issue of not having updated sources that everyone here has. In discussions on his board he's mentioned that it was easier to modify elements which require ion to pmem than developing an ion kernel from scratch to fully support that device. Perhaps our Amaze would be better served if developers here take the same approach. Use what we already have and just workaround it.
Now as to the mounting issue, the fact that both internal and external SD-cards are recognized and can be mounted via adb suggests that It's a configuration problem. Perhaps init scripts need slight modification or symbolic links created to get them mounted correctly. Again I hate to keep bringing up Tytung, but he worked around MTP issues by simply not implementing it in his newer ROMs. The old method of accessing the SD storage worked well with our devices, why must we reinvent the wheel? Yes MTP is more secure which is the primary reason for its adoption, but really, do we need it if implementing it correctly is only bringing about more problems?
Edit: Another thing to consider is Jellybean-4.3 introduced SELinux in permissive mode which means potential security risks are only logged, but nothing is done about it. KitKat incorporates SELinux in enforcing mode which introduces a whole range of new issues I'm sure developers here have never had to deal with before. I know from my experience with Gentoo that SELinux can be a royal pain in the ass to administer. Which is why I don't use it in my rig. I can't tell you how many times I've seen bug reports where a package fails on an SELinux install that works as expected for everyone else. I also can't tell you how many times I've seen packages pushed into the stable repository only to be moved back into unstable when SELinux users complain about it not working for them. It truly is a ***** to setup and have running correctly. To me this is just another reason to get out a stable fully functioning Jellybean-4.3 in which to build off of before trying to tackle KitKat-4.4 which is going to be a far more difficult nut to crack.
Just my 2 cents

Well I tried what you said thing is sense is entirely different than CM or aosp the sources are there for public in both of them... But sense is a closed source and sense jb rom libs are compiled according to 3.4 kernel by HTC.. If we want to update the 3.0.16 kernel we have to enable ion with it then have to make the necessary libs along with it as well according to sense source, also must make ion enabled libs we have to make them all according to sense source.. Even the simple fixes of sense is really hard cuz HTC Sense is a complicated system :/... Tytong and almost all the cm devices lower than villec2 still use pmem kernels not ion... Not even cm team making ion enable kernels and ion enabled roms for us cuz it's a lot of work even tho its basically aosp..

Thanks for you comments, now I fully understand your dilemma. The issue isn't just getting a working JB ROM, it's getting a working JB/sense ROM. You see I'm sense agnostic. My HD2 had sense with windows, but all of the best android ROMs for it were aosp or cm based, so I got used to not having it. Now I've got it again with the nrg ROM so I use it. When I ran Tytung's cm ROMs I always customize anyway. To me cm or aosp is like having a blank canvas to paint on. You have the basic features, but It's infinitely customizable to taste. Sense gives a different platform. You can still customize, but It's not as flexible to customize as aosp or cm. In a way it's factory customized. Either way I'd just love to see a fully functioning JB on our devices. Please keep up the good work!
Ciao
