Okay, at the moment it is:
Sony Xperia S, P, U, Sola, Acro S.
Eventually, if it continues in this fashion, it will be:
Sony Xperia S, P, U, Sola, Go, Acro S, Acro HD, T, SL....
You get the message.
Can it be changed to Sony Xperia NXT Devices please? It looks really messy.

I agree there is no need for the really long name, how ever i still think each device should have its own category on the forum. The general forum gets crowded with questions from the whole NXT series.
And its a pain in the donkey to search for a particular device

I agree with having a sub forum for each device, this is too messy.

Creating this thread won't do nothing about it, but at least it means people are here to follow my suggestion.
Obviously this kinda thing has gotta be dealt with by one of the admins, so if we all contact an admin and individually request this change to happen, there's more chance. It still might not happen, but at least it will bring it to their attention if so many people are requesting it.
Just be sure to be concise when asking an admin for this change. Don't simply put, "We need sections for each new Sony phone. Merrr"
Say something along the lines of, "Even though this has already been brought to your attention before now, I'd like to request a change in the forums in regard to the Sony NXT series of devices. What I'd like to suggest is to have the main forum name as "Sony Xperia NXT" then inside there I suggest we have sub forums for the Xperia S, P, U etc etc. If this does indeed happen, it'll make it much easier for the following 2 reasons especially. First of all, rather than simply expanding the forum title whenever there's more devices, it's straight to the point with no confusion. Secondly, it will stop as many threads being placed in the wrong section because when that happens, the OP tends to get ridiculed for it and/or getting flamed which causes affected members to be in trouble aswell. All in all, its making it easy for our community and for the moderators of the Xperia range, as a whole."
That's pretty much what I'll be sending to an admin anyway

For example they will create sections for all samsung phones but they can t for few xperias.

Yes i would also like to see a forum for each Sony individually, i mean even the S3 has it's own forums for all the different ones (even though it's the same phone).
Its a load of old **** having so many devices in one forum
I don't want devices to be in their own individual forums, believe me, it's easier to catch up on development the way it is now. It's just the forum title is so ugly.

Yes this this forum ( i mean Xperia S section ) looks a bit messy

how are you going to do that?

That's why we need a proper forum to work in development would be much better if we had the space of our own forum
Am I the only one who sees this as a redundant idea?
Why make a subforum for a device that is almost identical to the mini/mini pro/active, that so far has no development on it other than FXP. The only reason Xperia Ray has a different development subforum is because it has a completely different screen size, along with different internals. Instead of petitioning for a possibly completely empty subforum, try and help to fill up the already development-wise Mini/minipro/live/active subforum.
Splitting each device differently has various negative impacts. Since they are identical, most apps will work on all of these 4 phones. For example the 4x4 home. It works for all. The quick menu, etc etc etc. Having each phone in a different subforum will drive off people who can work between devices.

well these threads will get lost becaus off litle support, then what about adding the name to the forum of MINI/PRO/Active because maybe some devs can't find it on XDA
Yeah the Live isn't even in the name of the sub forum we at least need a a little recognition

Hi all,
I've been on this site a while now and with my new phone, the Mini ST15i I noticed that it is bunched together with various other phones. With my last phone, it had a section to itself and it was MUCH easier to navigate. I understand that XDA won't be creating a new section for EVERY new phone, but if it's partially a matter of usage and partially requests, I would certainly like to ask XDA to create a new section for our Mini.
If you don't know much about what it looks like for other popular phones, it's something like:
Xperia Mini (ST15i)
General
Questions & Answers
Accessories
Development
I don't mind if it's a different format, just that we would have our own section. I DIDN'T see another therad like this when I wrote this, so is it partially a matter of demand? Would you be interested in this?
Themes and Apps
I will use this topic to bring out another issue:
Will there be an easy way to root xperia mini pro .62 firmware? Is someone working on it?
Couldn't find any thread about it.
I dont think so. You can try rooting with SuperOneClick( but i doubt it'll work on .62 FW).
Flashing custom kernel with root will work.
Sent from my Xperia Mini using Tapatalk
First, to the topic starter: In "About xda-developers.com" forum section, is being discussed over new sections of phones. Since Xperia Mini is not that popular and it doesn't have many custom stuff, it doesn't need own section. Yet, who knows, in future might it change.
Also, on the other hand, Xperia Mini has quite similar system as some other 2011 Xperia's, so it is easier for developers to create one topic of ROM/Kernel, which works for many phones.
To poster nomailx:
There is no exploit in .62 firmware, which would allow it to be rooted. Currently, you can either downgrade your firmware to a older one or flash a new kernel(lots of these can be found in Development section).
To poster duki994:
SuperOneClick does not root .62 firmware, as it uses the same exploit as every other Xperia rooting program, and that exploit is fixed, so that's why it does not work.
But the 2010 X10 Mini and X8 got their own sections...is the 2011 Mini really less popular??
Here is the proper place to vote for a phone to get it's own section. I voted. You simply reply to the post Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini +1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416406
lol its not worth it. i mean, mini and mini pro shares the same hardware/software except the hardware keyboard other than thats its all the same
Mini and Mini Pro is fine, yes they're near identical. But no other phones in the same section. Have you used the section of another phone on here? It's actually a pleasure to navigate through the sections. It's quite a task on the other hand in our section to find a rom that's for our phone, it's all jumbled up. Like I said, for anyone who has already used another section on this site, knows what I'm talking about.

Active, Live with Walkman, Mini and Mini Pro, all these use the same chipset and same hardware, just Live with Walkman has dual speakers and Mini Pro has keyboard etc.
Comparing hardware, we can also add Ray, Play and Arc, these also have same chipset, just 8MP camera etc.
OMG people read the post everyone in the world knows the hardware is similar, that is NOT what I talked about.

I'm with you on this one, partially though. Imagine having to control 4 different dev threads, with people spamming all over the place. It would be "nice", but not practical. Since most fixes work for all minis I suggest they keep them as they are.
X10 mini and x8 had different screen sizes.
Whats worse, they havent made a SE Xperia Pro thread at all...

Mainly because the people involved in those kind of decisions will most likely not see it here.
Not every phone can have a home in XDA.
There are many factors affecting the decision, one of them being interesting and continuous development, this is xda-developers after all.
P, U and Sola are relatively new devices, borderline low-end, middle-end at best, so it could go either way.
You need to be patient and in the meantime, try to make the accomodation of more than one phones under the same section bearable.
It is your responsibility to post in the correct sub-section, provide clear and to-the-point thread titles ("HEEEEEEEELP " "OMG wtf happened to my phone" "???" etc, are NOT acceptable) with tags ([P], , [Sola], ) so that the forums are as clean and helpful as possible.
Thanks!
Ion, even though definitely a high-end phone, is just not that popular at the moment. I do not think XDA favors Samsung, users do, so they render their products popular.
Please make your requests here, keeping in mind that they may or may not be met after all.
Thank you!
Now look at the image attached. I call BS on this excuse.

My question is this:
Is there anyway to port floating touch to Xperia Sole's brothers? In particular i'm interested in doing this for Xperia Go. due to his characteristics i think it would be great if you can use it with gloves!! I'm asking this because one of my closest friend is a Chef and bought the xperia go to use it in the kitchen but he always has gloves on so he dream of Glove Mode for his Xperia Go!
I know that there are some hardware issues, but i want to ask anyway. Hopefully a hell good dev here can try so!
Thanks in advance!

Your friend can use a conductive thread n make some knots of it on his gloves ! its a thread that can conduct charge and washes like a normal thread ... google " make a glove work with touch screen" u ll get it there... no need to develop anything for GO
Well its not about a developer spending hours and porting it. What you are talking about it like removing a hardware component and porting into your xperia go, which isnt possible right at this moment!
Xperia sola hosts dual touch sensors while all other phones just have one! Single capacitance and mutual capacitance touch sensors!
And one of those enable floating touch! Its not an app but a hardware!
For more info read about it on sony website! Hope it helped

Well yeah that may work as the app is used to increase the sensitivity of detecting electrical impulses which allows it to detect it a bit above the screen! Well thats what I think!

Thinking about a guide like say "links to common problems and tuts",
where there is links to every common problem of the forum in those threads. users can post more. so everything is there and its not very messy or long.

I think the idea is a good one. A bunch of the recognized contributors are trying to do something along those lines, but based on a FAQ. The idea is for most devices to end up with a FAQ with short answers to the common questions/problems. Since the answers are short, they almost always link to a longer guide/tut/resource.
fma965 put one up for the Xperia Play today, it is here if you want to take a look.
Is there any way to share op title or at least have an option for more than person to edit a post? And watch over the thread etc etc.

I think your idea is not bad but I think I already made a FAQ thread for it You can always PM me or tell me all kinds of your idea to improve it. I'm trying to make it as much helpful as I can and if you put your effort too, i think that guide can be extended to a greater level
Best Regards,
AJ

At the moment no. I think that people have asked for this in General - About xda forum. I seem to remember that it was going to be looked into...but it could be a while.
I don't think you can ever have too many guides as what you may find in one you might not find in another, but as already said it's pretty much covered in the guides/sticky department, and most of the solutions to common problems should be found by following Rule Number 1 anyway.
No offence, but the search tool of xda isn't quite up to the mark.

Agreed, but it IS an alternative. And I might point out that the search function is not the best. Case in point, I received a thunderbolt a few weeks ago, and while I was able to find what I needed to root it quickly, there things I needed to know that were no where to be found. As an RC, I knew better than to "just ask", but after I could not find my answer (although I'm sure it was here somewhere) I had to pull a n00b and ask. Of course, I was treated like a n00b with the typical "read the OP, search first" responses. NOT HELPFUL.

Google works perfectly, which is why its so frustrating when People say they've searched but not found what they're looking for, because most of the time typing a thread title or their question into Google finds it straight away, or is in one of the stickys they clearly haven't read.
