I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 I-9100M originally purchased from Bell. I rooted the phone using Odin. That was my first time rooting and I must admit, I kind of took blind faith in the instructions without actually taking the time to understand what's going on. In any case, everything has been working fine (except the GPS lock takes forever).
However, I would really like to see some improvements in battery life... and I heard that Gingerbread v2.3.6 has improvements from previous versions. I don't want to go to ICS because I've heard it's slow, etc. Below are the details from my phone:
Android version: 2.3.3
Basebad version: I9100MUGKG2
Kernel version: [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.UGKG2
Can anyone help me understand the above? Since the kernel version says 2.6.3, does that mean I am already on it? Eventhough the OS version says 2.3.3? Sorry if that's a totally ignorant question...

So I'm admittedly stupid when it comes to most Android issues, but I can follow instructions pretty well and unfortunately my issue didn't have instructions.
I looked over some of the other 'Update failed' threads but they didn't fit my issue since they're somewhat old and provided no answers really.
I have a rooted Vibrant with the only other "mod" being the OneClickLagFix. I recently received the OTA update system message and decided to go ahead with it thinking the worst that'd happen is that I'd lose root and/or some data, but I had backed up with Titanium so I wasn't worried.
So the update ran itself, the phone rebooted and nothing has changed? My version still shows as 2.1-update1 and now under "Software Update" only gives me the message "No firmware". I'm pretty much stuck now, I thought the update was going to give me 2.2 and I'd be set, but I don't think it did anything at all? Has anyone else run into the same issues?
Model: SGH-T959
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: T959UVJFD
Kernel Version: 2.6.29
Build Number: ECLAIR
I'm not having any noticeable issues just yet but I was hoping someone could give me an idea of what may have happened and/or what I may be able to do to get the OTA update (or similar manual instructions).
Many thanks to anyone who gives any advice, you guys all really know your stuff with Android so hopefully someone can help!
Cheers
the OTA wasn't 2.2
just a bugfix version of 2.1 with mediahub enabled
It was a 2.1 service pack, here is an abbreviated list of what was changed, added, modified, etc...

The GPS fix was the most anticipated thing in this update to the 2.1 version. I knew T-Mobile should have put a Version # in their annoucement but they didn't and look what happened. You're not the first person to crawl out from under a rock and wonder why 2.2 wasn't installed / available.
Oh well color me blue.
I apologize for my lack of knowledge on the issue. Thanks for clearing that up for me guys.
Back to under my rock I go.

i saw that you put down:
Model: SGH-T959
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: T959UVJFD
Kernel Version: 2.6.29
Build Number: ECLAIR
was this after the update?
Baseband version is suppose to be T959UVJ16
Build Number: ECLAIR.UVJ16
AFTER the update.
make sure you've updated.
Just FYI to the OP, I had the same issue when I tried the OTA. It went through the update process, it told me that the update had failed and rebooted into JFD. The update did not stick for whatever reason. I ended up ODINing the JI6. I am now running Bionix 1.9 and am loving it.
My opinion of JI6 was meh at best. The devs here definitely have improved my Vibrant experience and turned this phone into a phone I am proud to show off.
Hi there (topic should say GT-i9100G)
Been searching for days to find a way to root my GT-i9100G model. I found plenty for previous builds of my kernel but nothing for this current one.
So I'm at the end of my wits and for the first time in years I'm turning to creating a thread on a forum, getting ready for the flame.
kernel: 2.6.35.7 DELL165 dpi @ # 2
Android version: 2.3.6
Build number is: GINGERBREAD.XXLA1
Baseband version: I9100GXXKL4
I had a i900 from work but after it broke my work phone was replaced with this model and I'm sick of not being able to run ICS on it.
Anyways, wanna get CWM on it, but I'm very green at the whole custom ROM scene, only thing I ever rooted was my 10.1 tab with Odin to flash AOKP's builds :\
Anyways, if anyone has any tip, don't be shy.

You DID mean GT-i9100G, right?
Need to know more, anyways. Build number?
Use super one click
Yes of course, silly me, GT-i9100G is my phone.
Build number is: GINGERBREAD.XXLA1
Baseband version: I9100GXXKL4
I've read others talk about super one click, the reports were very mixed and I think this build will not work, or am I wrong?

I believe SuperOneClick requires an insecure kernel to be flashed to your phone first before using it, right? You just have to make sure the insecure kernel is for the I9100G, and not the I9100. And if you cannot find an exact match for your kernel version for an insecure kernel, you will need a copy of your secure kernel to flash back when you're done rooting.
I'm afraid I don't know where to get these things for an I9100G, however, so you're on your own to look for them. (unless someone who knows this information sees this post and is kind enough to post it to you)
EDIT to add: that said, I've heard of a few custom kernels for the I9100G that, when flashed, will root your phone for you. I don't remember what they are though, you'll have to search for them.
EDIT 2: Found one (superatmos) that has a version compatible with your build.
Greetings! I've recently acquired an unwanted Motrola Atrix 4G and I'm wanting to upgrade it to the latest version of Android. Here's the tricky part - it's a Canadian (BELL) phone with an inactive SIM, and I'm not too sure what has actually been installed on it.
As far as I can tell, the previous user has 'Greyblurred' the device (See Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1070076) and flashed it with the custom SBF linked in the thread.
How would I go about updating the phone to Gingerbread? Is an OTA update possible without bricking it?
I should mention that this is my first smart phone, though I quite familiar with the terminology and it's applications. Just a nudge in the right direction would be fantastic.
Here's the system information, if it's of any help:
Code:
System Version: Version 4.2.1.1.MB860.Retail - Blurred
Model Number: MB860
Android Version: 2.2.2
Baseband Version: N_01.92.00R
Motorola Webtop Version: OSHWT_U1_6.54.0
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT Thu Apr 28 22:58:25 CST 2011
Build Number: OLYEM_U4_2.1.1 - GreyBlurred
Thank you kindly in advance - any help is appreciated!
So it's been almost a year and I figured I'd give this a bump rather than create a new thread. Does anyone have even a whiff of a suggestion? Thank you kindly, in advance.
Okay, I must say I'm quite surprised. Even after almost a year you still haven't been able to research this on your own?
This forum is crammed with various detailed tutorials and guides, that should be enough to get anyone started...
The most obvious first step would be to determine if the phone shows "Unlocked" while booting and/or has a custom recovery installed.

The phone does not say unlocked. However, it does have CWM installed.
I have read through every tutorial. The issue isn't determining how to get the phone flashed to a newer ROM, it's the fact that it has a unique SBF's on it, and I am unable to receive OTA updates (though that's obvious). I'm wanting to simply upgrade it to the newest version without bricking it.
Since it dealt with flashing an SBF that has since been unsupported, I figured I should ask first, before going ahead and fiddling on my own.
Also, it being a BELL model it all the more frustrating!
(And, I am unable to take it to a BELL service store/send it in etc. since I am in Sweden.)
You have CWM. You have absolutely no need to touch a SBF ever again.
Just flash a ROM through CWM. There is no way to brick the phone that way.
All CWM-flashable ROMs work on all devices.
Hi,
The problem i'm having is every few days my radio will spam the phone asking for root. I have to press accept about 10 times before it goes away (even remembering the selection) only for it to re-appear a few days later asking again. I've tried a different modem and the situation seems to have improved but it's not gone completely (it used to spam over 100 entries at a time).
The rom i'm using is a recent cyanogen JB nightly, and I believe the siyah kernel.
Has anyone else had this issue? Surely the radio shouldn't be asking for root at all, since normal phones don't have that access.
I'm on Vodafone UK. I'm not sure I have the right rom's / radio / kernal so I'll post down what the phone lists here:
Baseband: I9300XXDLID
Kernel Version: 3.0.31-CM-g9ee66ec [email protected] #1
Nightly version: 10-20121202-NIGHTLY-I9300
Build number: cm_i9300-userdebug 4.1.2 JZO54K eng..20121202.091641 test-keys
Does anything look majorly wrong with this?
Thanks,
I've had the same issue the other week on a cm10 nightly.. I've researched it a bit but just put it down to an error of some kind. Would like to know why?
Hi all,
I successfully rooted my phone a year or two ago, and haven't done anything with it since. I know basically nothing about phones, but I can follow instructions pretty well.
I would like to have a general update to the phone with a new ROM (just for the sake of variety), and I would specifically like to add the following features:
-Shrink the screen down with the side-swipe motion for one handed use
-Ultra power saving mode
-Quad multi window
I would also like to do whatever needs to be done to smooth the operation of the phone out a bit--it does lag occasionally when switching between apps and stutter when moving between screens or scrolling. It isn't awful, and I don't expect perfection, but I would like to improve upon this if possible.
Here's my current set up:
TWRP Recovery; v2.6.3.1
Model number: SCH-I605
Android Version: 4.1.1
Baseband Version: I605VRALL4
Kernel Version: 3.0.31-414933 [email protected] #1
Build Number: JRO03C.I605VRALJB
Hardware Version: I605.06
Please let me know if I need to post any other information.
So here are my questions:
-I rooted my phone ages ago and haven't done anything else with it since...is there anything I need to do to my phone to move to the more recently released custom ROMs? If I need to update something, what do I need to update?
-What ROMs would you recommend I try out? I found the R3DS and DN3 ROMs, and it looks like they might work for what I'm looking for. Any thoughts on that, or other suggestions? The DN4 ROM sounds perfect, but as I understand it, it will only work on the N7100.
-As I understand it, a new kernel will allow me to overclock the phone and smooth things out. Any recommendations on that, one way or the other?
Thanks in advance for the help. :good:
