Verizon HTC "Superphone" Launch ~ Fall Release - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Get ready to hurl:
http://www.bgr.com/2012/08/06/htc-1080p-verizon-smartphone-release-date/
HTC’s upcoming 5-inch, 1080p superphone reaffirmed ahead of fall release
BGR exclusively reported this past April that HTC (2498) will be the star of Verizon Wireless’s (VZ) fall lineup thanks to a new 5-inch superphone with a 1080p high-definition display, Scribe stylus support and a quad-core Krait CPU paired with an Adreno 320 graphics processor. Now, citing unnamed industry sources, Digitimes on Monday reported that HTC plans to launch a smartphone with a “5-inch display featuring a resolution of 1794 by 1080 pixels” some time in either September or October. The massive HD handset could be just what HTC needs to finish the year strong after a rough second quarter and continued struggles in the third quarter, but it’ll certainly have some stiff competition from the Galaxy S III, the upcoming Galaxy Note II and Apple’s (AAPL) next-generation iPhone, which will be announced on September 12th.

Saw that and it looks killer, but I gotta say, after playing with the streak a while ago, I don't think I could go any bigger than the screen size of the lte. Of course I said the same thing when I got my og...

Makes sense. Samsung is going to announce a new Galaxy Note, so HTC will try to compete with them in the phone/tablet hybrid market.

Sounds great.

Pretty cool. Except that I could never use Verizon. Slow data as it may be, at least its not capped or throttled on sprint. Plus my house has been lit up with LTE for the past week now and I pull a solid 10mbps down, and 5-10 up everytime I test it. (hit as high as 14 down)
And we all knew the quad-core kraits were coming later this year. That screen is going to look awesome as well.
As the new iPhone release is coming up, I think our current phones will give it every bit of a run for it's money, and this just emphasizes the android hardware dominance over it even more so.

That screen will be delicious. 1080p is twice the number of pixels as 720p. On a 5" screen, 1794x1080 would be a PPI of 418.8. Compare that to this phone's PPI: 312.47.

To bad most things don't take advantage of the high res netflix still doesn't do hd on most phones and I don't think hulu does either and a few media players iv tried don't work right and crash often or freeze

Will the Evo 3d has the same 30fps cap issue?

I was very disappointed with my htc evo 4g. This issue was never fixed even if thought it was. after the (suppostly fix) Most kernel and htc firmware upgrade were able to reach around 50-53fps but never did it reached 60fps like my nexus. With a few tweaks It was able to reach closer to 60fps but you would get screen tearing. so please can anyone confirm this. i don't want to run games or sense cap at 30fps again.

There will obviously be no 30fps cap on the EVO 3d.
While I agree with you, it isn't so obvious....i felt it should have been obvious that the 4g wouldnt have had the cap, the nexus didn't...hell, my ****ty samsung moment didn't...
That said, I would be thoroughly shocked and horrified if it does have an fps cap...at which point I will return it, wait for the sgs2 and boycott htc for good...
...fool me once, etc etc etc

As much as HTC bends over for the community I doubt this will be an issue. This is HTC not Motorola.

We were discussing doing 3d in portrait, but the problem lies in how it works.

Judging by this, I would say there's no 30 fps cap.

Yeah from all the recent benchmarks of the sensation it looks like it might be 60...like even the anandtech ones...in quadrant they max out at 61 and it seems like it was clearly trying to do more but was limited
Sounds like a vsynch issue...
Also what's the point of rendering more frames then the refresh rate of the S-LCD anyway?
Except to generate heat, reduced battery life, increased tearing, and bragging rights for days...

Just to clarify, the human eye cannot register more than 30-35 fps. Going higher is just an ego boost.
With that said, I'm guilty of going for max fps also.

Don't know about you, but I can easily tell the difference between 30 and 60fps here.
Maybe if you showed them one at a time, it would be harder, but when they are (side by side) or one on top of the other in this case, the difference is easily apparent.

Lapdock 100 confirmed on Engadget

It basically looks like the Webtop Lapdock, but with chrome accents, and can connect to a number of high end Moto devices, such as the newly announced Atrix 2 and also our Photon, via what appears to be a dongle. Launches exclusively on AT&T on Oct. 13th followed by launches at other locations (Sprint?) later this month. No price yet.
Anyone interested? This guy is.

From a hardware standpoint, webtop performs ok when compared to an equivalent netbook. Not too long ago those single core Atom netbooks could barely play youtube vids. The eyecandy is it main hindrance and the patch work coding doesn't help.
I've already discussed possible improvements with moto and there response was pretty much "webtop's awesome, everybody loves it, the hardware can't support a real desktop enviroment and who would want that anyway." My rebuttal was to show them my Photon running, at that time, a prerelease of Ubuntop using the lapdock. "We don't get it." was what I got in return at which point I walked away.
I have a single core 1.6 intel atom netbook and im sure my photons hardware blows it out the water lol. I need a full fedora distro on this thing = perfect phone
That's pretty legit. I might actually ponder getting one if I don't get a tablet instead.

You know what, I had an Asus TF. Great device, great support. I traded it and went back to my NC running CM7 via Phirenook. 7 is such a good form factor, I slide it into my binder and have my text/web resources at my fingertips, right beside my notes. I have magazines on there and books, and with that screen...things are easy to read.
That being said, I'm hoping a 7" model of Xoom 2 is announced and or the Galaxy Tab 7 is price appropriate, because there is something incredibly utilitarian about a tablet the size of a paperback. My $.02.
Edit: Locks like the Lapdock is going to run $249. Hmmmm.

Here's what I've found so far for the specs...
4G LTE capability
Five-row QWERTY keyboard
4-inch Samsung Super AMOLED display
Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor
1.3-megapixel (front) camera
5-megapixel (rear) camera
Mobile hotspot capability
AllShare
Samsung Media Hub
Bluetooth 3.0
DivX and XviD support
Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n
Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
Support for Cisco AnyConnect 2.1 SSL VPN
Encryption Services
Support for Sybase Afaria
So it looks like its' CPU is comparable to the Fascinate, in fact it looks like the only major differences are 4G, a slide out QWERTY keyboard, and Gingerbread built-in.
I gotta say that I'm tempted to get this. I kinda wish it had a Dual-core CPU and Tegra GPU, but I just might pull the trigger anyway. Any news on if this phone will take current Fascinate ROMs with modification?
I'd LOVE to throw CM7 on this sucker...
Yay..... the epic comes to verizon a year later....
good day.
Strange deals between Samsung and VZW !
Edit: wait a minute... that means and official Gb release from VZW easily ported to the fassy.
PWGB,TKSGB10-10, adren shot xix, honeycomb2.03, ec09 radio.
Why would you want this when the Nexus Prime is just a ways reach away?
This phone is pretty sub-par to what is newly released.. this will probably be the phone for the average user who wants 4G.
Well, I'm looking at it for my wife. Who sends about 700 text messages a month. She WILL NOT USE AN ON SCREEN KEYBOARD. If you're not married, then you won't understand why you can't try to enlighten your wife.
Sadly, although it should work the same as a Charge, the demo unit at Verizon didn't scroll or pinch-zoom without the page bouncing around, and I suspect it was some Verizon demo mode that was completely hosing it, and no way I could find to turn that mode off, and while the salesmen/women tried to help, they were just as ignorant as me.
I came here looking to find out if there were any problems. Instead there's just 'tude.
BTW, I think I'm getting the Galaxy Nexus for myself.
I had the stratosphere for 3 days and took it back. Keys on keyboard were to small, the bloatware was unbelievable, the battery life sucked, and everytime I tried to open the keyboard the damn thing nearly flew out of my hand. It was bad enough I opted for another fascinate, a refurb no less. That was my experience.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium
So far two days into owning the Stratosphere and loving it. After getting the root applied to the phone and removing some of the bloat the phone is really running well. If you desire an QWERTY keyboard with 4G LTE on Verizon this is not a bad option. Yes its not as powerful as the upcoming devices coming out I'll be completely honest but on its own its pretty solid so far for me.
24-Hours in...
Picked up this phone yesterday. Got it from Radio Shack for FREE with a 2-year contract renewal.
So far I am really liking it. Upgraded from an HTC Droid Eris. BIG difference!
I also wish it had a dual-core processor, but this is a great phone for free. Looks like Target and Best Buy are now offering this phone for free too.
Now just need to be able to root and flash to ICS.

Two years with ATT and Aria, what next?

Hi gang,
Two years ago I was among one of the first to root my Aria (Carrier: ATT) and all has gone well with multiple updates/upgrades with the software.
Would like to ask anyone to recommend the next phone as my contract is up and ATT is doing everything it can to 'keep me in the family', inclusive of unlimited SMS and monthly service credits.
I see Sprint has an Evo V offer for 35/45/55 month with unlimited SMS/data and voice minutes 300/1200/unlimited everything
What other device do you like and would recommend with ATT? Currently they are pushing the HTC One with a new 2 year contract.
Anyone taken them up and did you root your HTC One ?
oThEr options or suggestions are welcome
I'm in the same boat, ATT with an Aria. I'm going either with the Galaxy S3 pending what it looks like in the US or the Galaxy Nexus. Thought about the One X but i dont like the fact that there is no storage expandability or you cant remove the battery.
I was in the same boat as both of you, got an Aria almost 2 years ago and decided to renew the contract and upgrade to the One X. After a week I am really happy with my decision. It is definitely the most amazing phone on the market to date.
Non-removable battery and no-micro SD slot are issues, but for me they were certainly not dealbreakers, especially when you consider what you're getting.
I get well over a working-days use out of it, and the free 20GB added to your Dropbox account is certainly very useful. That + Google Music makes it so that I really don't need any more than 10-15 GBs on my phone.
I would say if you are content with ATTs service and don't mind the minor problems that come with buying a new flagship device (basically makes you a beta tester of sorts) I would say at the very least go and try to play with a One X in the store or mess with a friends to see if you like it.
I got mine for $149.99 on Amazon pre-order, and they actually gave me another $20 credit for them not being able to change my shipping to one-day and get it to me sooner. Not bad.

I've played with the HTC One X before and I loved it, it was very smooth and sense 4.0 was awesome but the non removable battery and no expandability for storage are deal breakers for me and I don't like to rely on cloud storage. Even if it just had a micro sd slot I'd consider it more.
I vote the galaxy nexus then.
Sent from my HTC One X
I'm still quite happy with my Aria, as limited as it is, with over 2 years of use. I truly love the tiny size of it and have a hard time considering anything larger, but frankly, AT&T's service area and data speeds here SUCK, SUCK, SUCK!
I've already informed the family that there will be no more upgrades going forward until we can all move to Verizon, but that will be more than a year from now! So to appease my need for more power when I am out of the house, I will continue to use the Aria - and tether a tablet for the more hardcore stuff. By then, the One X will be 'so last year'.
Ok, enough of my whining and compensating, the One X is probably the one I would be looking at the hardest right now.
Galaxy S2 is available for 9.99 with a 2 year renewal (I got mine for 99). It's not the newest phone, but I would say it's probably the 2nd most powerful Android on AT&T, right behind the One X. It doesn't have an LTE radio though.
There are fully functional CM9 nightlies already available for it, as well as a bunch of other ROMs. It's really quite a nice phone.
I suggest the HTC Desire C.
Specs similar to the Aria, but just up a notch (same screen size, processor).
Biggest improvements are the addition of ICS and Sense 4.
If you're looking for an Aria-like phone with updated OS and more storage, I would look at this phone.
- Android 4.0 ICS with HTC Sense 4.0
- 600MHz processor, 512MB of RAM
- 3.5-inch HVGA screen
- 5-megapixel camera
- 4GB internal storage, 25GB of free Dropbox cloud storage
- Beats Audio
actually the processor is the same speed but a snapdragon process which is more advanced.
My contract was up this coming August, and I planned to spend all of July making a decision on what phone, and what provider, I would get next.
Then yesterday, the decision had to be made much faster; I dropped my Aria (the second time ever in 21 months) and cracked the digitizer. The screen is fine, and the digitizer actually still works, but I cut my finger on the glass when I unlocked it. I couldn't wait for a new digitizer to arrive, and I needed a phone yesterday, so I had to act fast.
I extended my contract with AT&T ( ) and got an HTC Vivid. At $50 with contract, the price was right. I like the phone, though it's MUCH bigger than my little Aria. Rooting is weirder, so I'm going to wait a little while 'til I'm comfortable with everything.
I'll probably fix the Aria one day, especially once the ICS builds mature. It's a great little phone!
How's this for 1 cent ? Refurb a no-no ?

I don't have problem with refurbs, I've got problems with contracts.
No problem with refurbs. I prefer them since they have been thru quality checks in refurb, so have been checked at least once. The last 3 phones I have used: Moto Razr, Aria, and Galaxy S2 have all been refurb. Never a problem with any of them. I've had the S2 for about 3 months and finally getting used to the larger size. I can read the screen in sunlight, which I could not with the Aria. Already rooted the S2, so can do as I wish about the software.
If you're looking at cheap, then get the Skyrocket. I have it and it's an amazing device. Don't get the HTC Vivid. There are literally NO developers left.
Hope to see you in the Skyrocket forums!

I also didn't use the 3D too much like only 12 shots or so but i like to show this 3D gimmick to people their faces are priceless when i show them that my phone has 2 cameras hahaha and then i show them few best pictures and i can just see their eyes shining because of such awesomeness hahaha.

I have used the 3D quite a bit actually. I would say that a third of the pictures I take are in 3D. The problem I have with the camera isn't the 3D but rather the quality of the pictures. Not even a year later the One S can take much better pictures even in the dark.
Speaking of 3D, and has anyone noticed the 3D Lyrics in Shazam?

1. the specs / price ratio
2. not about the 3d all because the specs / prices ratio i buyed it unlocked HTC EVO 3D GSM for 300 euros if i would buy a sgs 2 for that price i have to wait like 3 years to get it for that price so thats my opinion
I love using the 3d but just hate sense so I'm 3dless until they can find a fix for aokp.
