Applying Spring Ice Cream Sandwich goes to HBOOT - HTC EVO 3D

So tonight I received a message saying there was an HTC update available to update to 4.0 Ice Cream sandwhich but every time I try to apply it, the phone restarts and takes me the HBOOT menu and nothing happens from there. Anyone know what the problem could be?

Same here for the update. Using meanrom. Didn't try updating however. I will wait for the devs. Base shows the same.

Yes I ran the ruu.exe from my computer. How do I check if I have stock recovery?

Go into recovery from the bootloader menu and make sure it is the one from HTC, not cwm, twrp, or 4ext. It should be since you ran the ruu, but just want to make sure.

Whenever I try to go to recovery it just flashes the THC screen and then goes back to the boot loader. Could the problem be that maybe I don't have a recovery? and if so how could I fix this?

Run the ruu.exe again. It seems like something didn't take last time.

[Q] Installing custom recovery and rooting

I have decided to unlock and root my GSM Evo 3D... Planing to use htcdev unlock metod, but what next... Is there anyone willing to lead me step by step how to install cwm and root? Dont want to mess something up.
My hboot is 1.49.0018 and im already s-off.
And I am also interested in how to revert back to original state.

You're already s-off, don't use the HTC unlock method, you're already unlocked and you dont even have the locked bootloader that is required for the HTC unlock method. Read some threads about how to do this, they're very well written.
Yea, you just need to flash the correct recovery and superuser stuff. Or flash a recovery and then a rooted rom
We're comin from a pure power source.
What recovery should i use?
I already unlocked over htcdev, and relocked bootloader. Had no problem...
Sent from mine mean EVO 3D X515m machine using Tt
Whichever one is made for gsm evo. You can search or use rom manager. I prefer to do it manually though

if you want to go back to stock you have to download the proper RUU for your phone.. relock your bootloader and then take that RUU and rename it to PG86IMG.zip and transfer it over to your sdcard in the root folder... then boot into hboot and youll see the file start to be loaded by the blue bar on the upper right side of the screen...and yes it should install the stock recovery....
Thanks for info guys!
Poor choice of roms. But will stay rooted for a while.

How to upgrade to ics?

Got a evo 3D as a present and since I have my s2 I wanna mess with this phone. I have 2.3.4 I unlocked it rooted it and it's s- on. I tried to install meanrom ics but it just got stuck in the HTC logo. Any solutions?

The ics Roms tend to cause bootloops for most phones with s-on, so I recommend getting s-off. The easiest way is to use the wire trick.

You could downgrade your hboot, which is what I did, but that is risky too because you have to purposely soft brick your phone. HTC does not make it easy to get s-off.

coal is right the wire trick is easier to do if all youre looking for is the s-off...ive performed that just to try it and the downgrade ...both work but the ease of the wire trick is uncomparable

If you're GSM, when flashing an ICS ROM, you will need to manually flash the boot.img from fastboot using CMD..

I would think that the same applies for a CDMA phone.
Look at the page where you downloaded the ROM, does the dev provide you with a boot.img file? (Usually firmware file)
If so, you could probably flash it manually.

Before you Install, prepare:
2.17.651.5 ROMs need the latest firmware. See freeza's all in one firmware update if you haven't done that already. If you unlocked via the HTC method, you know the drill: you'll have to take the OTA and then re-unlock.
If you are already running an older version of MeanROM, you should be OK just flashing this ROM without a full wipe, BUT...
If you have any trouble at all, do a super wipe and then install the above firmware and this ROM
Go to "Menu", "Settings", "Power" and UNcheck "Fast Boot". When you reboot or power off the phone, you really want it to reboot/power-off. This can save you a lot of headaches.

Find this in the OP for MeanROM.
Okay I'm s-on and I've learned all the tricks for hboot 1.5. To get meanrom ics running on your 3d, you need to flash the boot.IMG through fastboot. It's the easiest way I've found. In the meanrom.zip there should be a file called boot.IMG. extract that to where your adb and fastboot drivers are. Then cd/ to the files with your adb and fastboot drivers. Next 'adb reboot boatloader' to go to fastboot. When in fastboot, type 'fastboot flash boot boot.img'. then, since you have already flashed the Rom 'fastboot boot boot.img' to reboot your phone.
There are other ways to do flash the boot.img, but I prefer to use fastboot.
Hope this helps

You can use a paperclip, however, you CANNOT do the wire trick unless you are running a stock ROM.
Must be stock Gingerbread.
And, if you plan on using a paperclip, wrap it in some kind of Tape so static electricity doesn't go from you to the phone.
Use masking tape, worked for me.
im running meanrom the gingerbread one and i have a backup for stock can i just do the backup and do it like that?

Then you should be OK.

new bootloader question

i know i have been around long enough to know this but for some reason i can't think of the answer. i have rooted many phones and am content with flashing roms and thats about it. i have the new 2.89 firmware with the stock ics rom from virus and can't figure out, if i am already s-off but my new bootloader is locked is there a reason to want to unlock the bootloader if i am already s-off? i never really paid attention if it was locked before.

flash Juopunutbear hboot from: http://unlimited.io/hboot-downloads/
The JB hboot is similar to an Unlocked bootloader, but supports more commands & doesn't need you to unlock the bootloader via HTC Dev.
Since you are S Off, you can flash hboots & don't ever need to unlock via HTC dev again.

Going trully s-off

Hello everyone, I have seen and heard many amazing things about downgrading the bootloader, so I'm thinking of downgrading my evo 3d bootloader, but I would like to have some insights about it, the proper way of doing it, I took the sprint update and automatically updated to bootloader 1.58, I'm running meanrom ics v 2.6, and I used htc dev unlock, to unlock my e3d, as a side note, I must say that I haven't had any problems flashing roms, so far I have been able to flash any rom without any bootlops, so do you guys think that I could benefit downgrading to a lower boot, i hear 1.40 is good, remember that I took the update and I'm on htc boot 1.58, thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge with me.
