So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish - HTC EVO 3D

Unfortunately I have to depart the 3D community.
My 3D died, No signals at all, No 3G, 1X nothing at all.
So I've done everything I could to revive it, but after all and all, took it to the sprint store, asurion warranty stepped in, and their giving me a Samsung Epic 4G touch by tomorrow hopefully.
But I'll still be around, and if anybody needs help with their 3D, I'll help all I can.

screw that. I'd get another 3D phone. hehehehehehehe. now when they coming out with a Verizon Evo 3D Quad core processor with 4GB Ram, 16GB Rom, Expandable SD card slot, with a hologram projection screen? Oh and It needs to supply me with hot girls I can make lots of babies with.

It's unfortunate that your phone is dead, and imho even worse that they gave you a Crapsung product. Why the change? Are they completely done with the 3d? I thought they would have at least given you the EVO LTE.
I'm sorry, but goodbye threads generally turn into flamebait. I'll leave this open for a little while, but I will close it shortly.

I would too stick with the 3D. Just got a replacement yesterday from the Sprint store. if your warranty is out you could've have went to HTC, but that takes three weeks.
See you anyway

Yea, the samsung got delayed too, It's on backorder I guess. Thinking about either calling a manager at asurion and ask for a better replacement since I was told at the time they had it in stock.
The only thing I can say good about samsung is their source releases and Steve Kondik working for them.

Yea I understand, so that's fine.

I would be happy to get the Epic touch 4G. Looks like my 3D might break soon. Ill trade you?
Impatiently waiting for the Note 2.

i just got a white e4gt brand new in a box from asurion. i only had the e3d for 3 weeks. it was a replacement for an epic 4g(slider). ive really come up in the last month!! the evo3d they gave me had light spots all over the lcd. they bugged me, so i called them and said i didnt feel like this phone was even close to new feeling,(witch a refurb really should.) being out of stock, they had me an epic touch here over night.
equal but different, the epic touch was way easier to root. i had a custom rom and colonel within 30 minutes of having it.

I'm out this piece too. I can't wait to get another phone. Hell I'm gonna start an insurance claim today to get me a SGSII

Officially bailed today.
Rooted with jellybeans.

While I still have my 3d, I had to put it out to pasture, RSA keys went bye bye, so no more 4g, but on the bright side I'm rocking a Galaxy Nexus now.

Congrats, looking forward to the day I can bail from the 3d and sprint, had very poor service for over a year and frankly the childish drama in the cdma 3d side is old. Waiting patiently for the new nexus phones due later this year. Then off to better things

Damn dude yeah you really came up lol, had mines for almost 2 months, got it as a replacement also when my 3D was stolen at work, I'm loving this phone & haven't missed my 3D one bit, & also official CM9 is imminent!

I got my e4gt Played with jellybeans but switched back to FG31 with custom kernel. It was a refrib from Asurion tho, and the back didn't fit correctly. The nice sprint store near me was able to give me a fitting back for free.

Wow they're sending refurbs now as replacements? Mines was brand new, but I haven't flashed any of the JB builds yet, heck I'm still waiting for CM9 to become fully stable, right now I'm just running stock FF18 rooted with agat kernel & placebo script.

Evo 3D First Batches

Remember when the Evo 4G came out and how all of the screen separation, light leakage and other defects came with many of them? You guys think it's worth it to wait a while after the release date to get it? (to have a "perfect" phone)
Input appreciated

I still have a first batch evo, got it release day. In fact My first batch EVO is the first Sprint phone besides my Sanyo M1 that I didn't need to have replaced in 10 years.
i would think that they had a checklist of mistakes not to make again. hope fully they did that.
No, there is a warranty. But if you'd rather wait...have fun!
The biggest issue had to do with how the screen was glued down and how the glue they originally either wasn't enough or eventually wore out.
Unfortunately, this is one of the problems with being an early adopter. But since it'll be covered by warranty, you'll be fine.
If you don't want to bother with the hassle, it's better to wait a month or two and then get it. More prudent that way.
I have 3 first batch 4g and none of them have had any build issues.
I think by now they have this form factor down..I'm not worried and like they said warranty
I had my first Evo since a week after the release date. If I wouldn't have dropped it 2-3 months ago and cracked the screen, it would still be running today with no issues.
I also had a release day evo...and the phone worked great, the only reason I swapped mine was due to a few dead pixels...it wasn't a huge deal but they kinda bugged me when I was browsing which I do alot of...nothing my warranty didn't fix quickly.

Can't count the times I've dropped my day 1 Evo 4g... Never a problem and never a bit of protection for it aside from an invisishield.
If that's the quality of the 3D then I will be extremely happy.

my guess is they learned from the manufacturing issues they had with the EVO 4G. if not, then some people need to be fired and they need to revisit their procedures. but as with all manufactured items, there is always a chance of a defect.
my launch day (0002) EVO has treated me well, up until last month when i had to get the screen replaced due to unresponive area. new screen = no light leakage/seperation or that splotchy area that looks horrible (those who had it, know what i mean)
I had an original 002 from launch day, and the only issue I had with it was it developing white spots over time. Just two weeks ago, I had it swapped (only because they didn't have that screen type in stock), but like others have said, don't be afraid because you do have warranty, and also I would suggest getting insurance for most smart phones these days since they're so valuable.
Just pre-ordered mine from WireFly ($179.99). I'm upgrading from the Hero, so I can't really speak for any of those problems, but the people I know who got the Evo 4G when it was released didn't have any problems at all.
I've had mine since launch day and she is going strong I'm glad for that because the sprint store will trade this bad boy in which make the E3d $50 life is good

Rezound .... best decision I have made

When i first got this phone ( right after i found out that htc unlocked boot loader ), I was really upset how developers were turned off from the community. I always thought that any phone's worth is evaluated via developer's support.
Now there are more developers buying this awesome phone every day, making it the ultimate beast that it should have been all along.
I really hope this community continue to appeal the developers. Every day I wake up, I fall more in love with my butter smooth phone with its phenomenal battery life, sound and reception.
In summary, thank you to all the developers that bought our phone and truly unlocking its potential. AND thank you for the maturity of the community to make it more appealing to the developers.
Yeah there is really not a single piece of info that is useful in this post, just wanted to share my happiness.
+1. I like bragging bout the devs n my phone too lol
Yeah, I keep watching the boards and Twitter like a fiend for any updates or scoops about developers and the different projects going on for the Rezound. Pretty excited to see Koush bought a Rezound just recently!
Does anyone have a good list of developers to follow on Twitter that are currently working on the Rezound?

In addition to that -> This phone works on both CDMA and GSM network ---> Best stuff I've ever own
Yup! Better choice than the Galnax for sure! After seeing that sprints version of the galnax is going to have the omap 4470 and power 544 that's like a big FU to the current galnax owners. Also google is offering limited support/stopped support to the cdma galnax. So much for the "Nexus" name now trololl.
The two biggest things I like about this phone compared to the galaxy nexus is the physical buttons and sdcard slot. I can't figure out why people would want to buy a phone now a days without an sdcard slot.
What I currently hate about this phone is the lack of S-OFF ATM my TB has has it. Correct me if I'm wrong I think it took about 5 months for the TB to get that though.
Man I agree 100%.
I was on a waiting list for like 6 months for a galaxy nexus, and when it finally came out I was shocked was a complete piece of crap it was\is.
I hadn't even considered the Rezound until that point, but we have a couple nexus phones on our corporate VZ account and after messing with them I wouldn't own one for anything.
I absolutely love the Rezound and think it's hands down the best phone I have used to date.
I never even looked at the new Nexus, so I didn't look at the specs for it, but the fact that it doesn't have a SD card would have definitely lead me in a way different direct than a Nexus. That is just ridiculous. That and the fact that Samsung phones feel like toys.
Just got my rezound today and it is by far the best phone i have ever owned.
I really agree with all the posts on this thread. I love my Rezound as well. I was waiting for the Gnex, but was bummed when I learned it did not have an MicroSD slot. Then I went to Big Red and compared the Gnex and Rezound. I was really excited when I checked out the Rezound, and turned off with the Gnex because I felt its build quality was poor. I picked up the Rezound and I am completely happy with it. I too hope the developers go crazy supporting this phone, as I am unlocked and rooted.
I also got the Rezound. It's a good phone, and I haven't had any problems with it (besides pink lights). I still find myself pining for the Galaxy Nexus. I really wanted that phone to be the one, but I felt the Rezound was the safer choice. I'll probably get over it when I get some sweet CM9 on this bad girl.
i finally got mine today guys and have already been bragging on Facbook... now what to do with my old Dinc... hmm

I got the thunderbolt on release day, and I am pretty sure Jcase and crew had it S-Off within a month. I remember this because I went through 5 of them within my 30 day return period, and all 2-3 of the 5 were ones I had s-off'd. No way was it 5 months.

haha
There was an issue with the Thunderbolts back at release time...i am trying so hard to remember what it was, that made me replace them. Some were worse than others, but this was when froyo was out. Soon as we got GB they fixed the issue. I just cannot for the life of me remember what the issue was. One had a bad headset that didnt output sound, and my last one, which I still have, works fine except for the sensor to shut the screen off when I am on the phone. I would constantly hang up on people. I tried and tried but verizon would NOT budge on replacing the phone. I finally got pissed off and purchased the Bionic, and later sold that to get the rezound. Should have just gotten the rezound in the first place.
Rezound wise, I think the best buy store I work at just kept getting a bunch of the same bad batch, with messed up screens. The moment I went to another best buy store, I have the now working phone I still have 30+ days later, knock on wood.
One rezound died cause the Best Buy Mobile Rep put the sim card in backwards, and surprisingly the phone still worked, and then the phone stopped booting and kept giving me errors in recovery, and wouldn't RUU. Only thing I can think of was the sim being in backwards fried the MOBO. That was the most perfect rezound I had had. So sad that it died. Perfect screen, and perfectly super dark red capacitive buttons. Now I haz perfect screen and pink buttons haha.
I know people slam apple, only thing I can say tho, is having had 4 different iphones total, and my family having a couple, I never saw a single pixel problem, or had a single phone have any issues. Everyone in my family that has an android phone has had some issue or another. I generally never had any trouble with HTC though, but the thunderbolt was rushed so I wasn't surprised, and the Rezound was a first of it's kind display wise.
Tried out the verizon gnex and ended up returning that pos for this awesome rezound. Best decisión I have made electronics wise! The gnex has some serious radio issues that need to be addressed. Couldn't get 4G at all at home and as soon as I activated my rezound..... Behold! 3 4G bars.. Couldn't be happier :-D
Sent from my HTC Rezound
I waited a while to upgrade from the OG Droid. The Charge was available at my upgrade (my sister's negative experience ruled out the TB), but I hated the memory pool and there were rumors of the dual core Bionic! Then the Bionic came out to little fanfare and there were rumors of the Galaxy Nexus! I had absolutely decided on the GNex, but delay after delay, after delay... it was the 22nd of November when I said, "F-it" and when to the Verizon store. My wife had a problem with the original RAZR, so wasn't considering the new one, but I thought it would be awesome. I sent AM to play with the Rezound and I played with the Razr... for about a minute. As soon as I saw the Rezound screen, I immediately dropped the Razr from consideration.
I packed it all up on GNex launch day to return it. I spent 5 minutes with the Nexus and went back to work with my Rezound. The guy helping me said I wasn't the first to come in with a Rezound and not exchange it.
The best decision I ever made was returning the POS Nexus for the Rezound.
I love mine. I have another upgrade in march and was thinking about giving the Gnex a 14 day trial run but, I see no need to at this point. I'm just getting another Rezound so my wife can also have one.
Unless there is anything new a awesome out by March 27th but I don't see much talk about anything coming out soon.
With the unlocked bootloader this phone is already the best phone available. I am so happy that I picked it up for a penny during that black friday sale.

Asurion Replacement for HTC Evo 3D is...

my wife dropped her HTC Evo 3D and cracked the screen, she has Insurance so i jumped onto Asurion.com and was going through the Process, i know at times they offer the EpicTouch4G as a replacement, but they were offering her a HTCEVO-Standard, is this the Older HTC Evo 4G? the one she upgraded from a year ago to the Evo 3D, and now they are trying to give it to her as a replacement for the 3D, i understand you get something of equal , but i really consider that a DOWNGRADE, i know it couldnt be the HTC Evo LTE, seems like it would of said something like HTCEVO-LTE or something along that, i could be wrong, anyone know for sure what the HTCEVO-standard is? am i correct at thinking its the HTC EVO 4G?
I'm pretty sure it's the Evo 4G. Call and get something better. Ask for a SG2

I called them and it was the old HTC EVO 4g and not the EVO 4g LTE , I told them I was not going to give them $100 to go back to a 4G, I explained that only a year ago I had the HTC EVO 4g and paid $200 to upgrade to the EVO 3d, now I have to pay $100 to get a 4g back again, so $300 and 2 years later I have the phone I started out on, the EVO 4g, I told her I was not happy and wasn't doing it, she insisted they were comparable and that's all she could offer, or I could wait 5 days for their stock of EVO 3d's to come in and they would ship me one and I would get it within 2 days of when they come in, again I wasn't happy, having to wait 7+ days for my wife to have a working phone, so I asked to speak to her manager, she put me on hold and I guess switched me over to a manager which then I explained to her my situation, she put me on hold so she could check their inventory of phones, she then came back and said she could offer me the Samsung galaxy s2 which I gladly accepted, I also got this as a replacement for my 3d, I just wonder how many people actually accept the EVO 4g as a replacement for their broken 3d?

Sorry, bad explanation, I hit the power button to turn the screen on and off until I get it to respond. It usually makes it through the ring lock, but then its either unresponsive or acts like there's pressure. Sometimes the capacitive buttons may not work either (actually more like a majority of the time). It happens a lot, like maybe 10-20% of the time I want to use the phone, seems to be getting worse. Maybe I better deal with it before I get locked out...
I'm a little leery of Samsung after my Moment debacle, but I can't deny that the Transform was alright and my wife's Intercept did do the job well. It seems they've made strides for sure.

if i had a non working EVO 3D id absolutely would get that switched out with an S2, they just got their official ICS out, and its bigger and faster.
my girl has an T-Mobile S2 and it screams, its great to use and handle. and takes 100x better pictures.. "someone" on xda whoses a "tmo tech" let out that the TMO S2 is set for an Official JB update later this year after the S3 gets it.
the extend batteries and accessory options are better and cheaper as well.
and if it wasnt bad enough the Epic 4g Touch has the better and faster chipset than the TMO S2.
Pull the trigger if u got the chance....
Oh and its also worth more too in the resale market...

Yes, you should get a Galaxy S2 replacement!
Asurion replaced my Evo3D with a GS2 on June 5. It wasn't a refurb, it was brand new. The GS2 was the only choice I had, and I was really upset until I received it. I loved my Evo3D! I miss the 3d and the Sense UI. :crying:
I'm really happy with the Galaxy S2 now tho, especially the USB storage.
I wouldn't have taken the Evo4G, either -- that's b.s! Good luck to the people with future 3d accidents! Insist on the GS2 and don't accept less!
(I had dropped the Evo3D on the street getting out of my car, in Texas, in 105°! I didn't notice for 30 minutes, and it cooked the bottom buttons, (home-menu etc.)

Samsung Moment, a nightmare of a phone that will haunt me for the rest of my existence, but this E4GT is hella worth it especially with CM9 on it!

if i had a non working EVO 3D id absolutely would get that switched out with an S2, they just got their official ICS out, and its bigger and faster.
my girl has an T-Mobile S2 and it screams, its great to use and handle. and takes 100x better pictures..

Samsung/Sprint borked the shat out of the ICS update for this phone, ppl are saying they think it's deliberate so we'll just go out & buy the S3 lol, but since kernel source was released too, we now have a source built kernel for CM9 & we're about to be official, this is definitely the best time to own a E4GT!

[Q] Chance to buy a EVO LTE for cheap, should I?

Hey guys, I've got the opportunity to buy a basically new EVO 4G LTE from a friend for $150.
Are you still happy with your phones?
I've got a Touch Pro 2 right now and am getting tired of it, I think it's time for an upgrade, LOL!
I would really like to get the One or S4, but don't have the funds for either of them just yet, still a student. :crying:
I can't do any savings with contracts on new phones either because I am planning to BYOSD over to Ting.
Yeah definitely should this phone has some great development and is very smooth and powerful. It will do anything you need and it has one of the best screens around. Enjoy it you want regret it.
I'd go for it, especially if you're not on a carrier that subsidizes...that's a good price. I haven't seen any pricing for the One but it will easily be upwards of $600 retail and it's not enough of an upgrade over the evo (imo)...this is a solid phone. Most people will be waiting for the next round of phones, which gives you plenty of time to save up for one You will be more than happy with your evo until then.

Not everyone does but i've searched and some others do so u never know
No issues with mine...it's a great phone that I think could last the normal user an extended period of time. Unfortunately for my gadgets, I have an uncontrollable desire to have the latest and the greatest so the One will soon (hopefully) be replacing my Evo LTE.
Maybe I'll pass it on to my gf to replace her sgs2 e4gt
compared to the touch pro 2, the evo lte will seem like the best phone ever made even if it has a bunch of issues. I paid 200 for a used one about 2 months ago and it's been totally worth it. the camera is amazing at how quickly it snaps pics.
I have had my evo LTE since launch day May 2 I think it was and have not has ANY problems with it.. This phone is great You will always find someone thats says they have problems with this or that but it like that with any phone out there.. Get this phone u will love it!! screen's nice.. battery lasts all day for me.. Its hella fast.. Smash's the galaxy s3 in benchmarks!! Camera is good.. Build quality is super good.. Feels solid in hand.. I would jump all over that deal
Wow, you definitely should!! I had the Touch Pro 2 also, but that was many years ago, and many devices since then! You'll love the Evo LTE, especially compared to the outdated TP2!!!

Thanks for all the advice guys. I ended up getting the phone for $120, pretty good deal I think, for minty condition.
The kickstand was a little loose, so I used the paperclip trick on the small little bolt. I hope that it doesn't come loose again.
I was thinking about putting a dab of Loctite or superglue on it?!?!
Now I just gotta find a slim case for it, I was thinking about Diztroic's TPU case.
Get that case. I got it as soon as I got my phone and still use it. Enjoy your phone

My call quality it perfect I've even called with noise around me nd they can still hear me. I think people with call quality issues are running aosp or they messed up their Mic since there's been a few people that messed up their mics already

my only complaint is the speaker..it's a joke. i blew my speaker the first month i had mine, and a replacement on ebay is ~$20. oh well finally cracked my screen (it's got a really strong screen! but i am abusive) and to replace that is only $35, cheaper than an otterbox lol. i just wish i could put an iphone speaker in it, but i'm not willing to be the first

Switch to a new phone and missed your evo?

I switched to a galaxy s3 and had been using it for some time.
Things started going bad about a month or so ago, my sd card reader stopped working right, the area around my home button excessively heated up since day one, screen got scratched easily, and lastly, what made me activate my evo again, my charging port went out.
My god I forgot what a solid phone felt like. Just the touchscreen alone made me realize how cheap Samsung phones are.
I missed the build quality and responsiveness of this phone (although this one is starting to go on me, but its been through a lot)
In fact, I like my evo so much I have no motivation to take my s3 to Sprint again so they can order me a replacement (they told me to take it again if the port failed after they fixed it)
Anyone have something similar happen?

Yeah, I'd have to agree...this phone is a rock compared to the s3. If you wanna switch back, let Sprint replace your s3, then call customer service and have them activate your evo, then sell the s3. Should be able to get a couple hundred bucks for it.
