[Q] Chance to buy a EVO LTE for cheap, should I? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hey guys, I've got the opportunity to buy a basically new EVO 4G LTE from a friend for $150.
Are you still happy with your phones?
I've got a Touch Pro 2 right now and am getting tired of it, I think it's time for an upgrade, LOL!
I would really like to get the One or S4, but don't have the funds for either of them just yet, still a student. :crying:
I can't do any savings with contracts on new phones either because I am planning to BYOSD over to Ting.

Yeah definitely should this phone has some great development and is very smooth and powerful. It will do anything you need and it has one of the best screens around. Enjoy it you want regret it.

I'd go for it, especially if you're not on a carrier that subsidizes...that's a good price. I haven't seen any pricing for the One but it will easily be upwards of $600 retail and it's not enough of an upgrade over the evo (imo)...this is a solid phone. Most people will be waiting for the next round of phones, which gives you plenty of time to save up for one You will be more than happy with your evo until then.

Not everyone does but i've searched and some others do so u never know

No issues with mine...it's a great phone that I think could last the normal user an extended period of time. Unfortunately for my gadgets, I have an uncontrollable desire to have the latest and the greatest so the One will soon (hopefully) be replacing my Evo LTE.
Maybe I'll pass it on to my gf to replace her sgs2 e4gt

compared to the touch pro 2, the evo lte will seem like the best phone ever made even if it has a bunch of issues. I paid 200 for a used one about 2 months ago and it's been totally worth it. the camera is amazing at how quickly it snaps pics.

I have had my evo LTE since launch day May 2 I think it was and have not has ANY problems with it.. This phone is great You will always find someone thats says they have problems with this or that but it like that with any phone out there.. Get this phone u will love it!! screen's nice.. battery lasts all day for me.. Its hella fast.. Smash's the galaxy s3 in benchmarks!! Camera is good.. Build quality is super good.. Feels solid in hand.. I would jump all over that deal

Wow, you definitely should!! I had the Touch Pro 2 also, but that was many years ago, and many devices since then! You'll love the Evo LTE, especially compared to the outdated TP2!!!

Thanks for all the advice guys. I ended up getting the phone for $120, pretty good deal I think, for minty condition.
The kickstand was a little loose, so I used the paperclip trick on the small little bolt. I hope that it doesn't come loose again.
I was thinking about putting a dab of Loctite or superglue on it?!?!
Now I just gotta find a slim case for it, I was thinking about Diztroic's TPU case.

Get that case. I got it as soon as I got my phone and still use it. Enjoy your phone

My call quality it perfect I've even called with noise around me nd they can still hear me. I think people with call quality issues are running aosp or they messed up their Mic since there's been a few people that messed up their mics already

my only complaint is the speaker..it's a joke. i blew my speaker the first month i had mine, and a replacement on ebay is ~$20. oh well finally cracked my screen (it's got a really strong screen! but i am abusive) and to replace that is only $35, cheaper than an otterbox lol. i just wish i could put an iphone speaker in it, but i'm not willing to be the first

quality build indeed

I spent about an hour tonight checking out the Amaze at my local tmo store and I was impressed with the feel and build quality. I compared it to the Samsung and while it's display was nice the rest of the phone left me wanting, the default dpi is way off (I'm not legally blind) and the UI was lacking as well. On the other hand Sense was not as bad as I thought it would be, I can feel ok knowing that HTC has stated that ICS will be released for my phone, where on the other hand Samsung has a poor track record on updates comparatively. The kicker is I can pick it up for 99 bucks through our corporate rep with no activation and a 10% discount on the monthly. Bye bye Optimus-T, hello Amaze 4G.
Also hoping for s-off soon which should allow for more ROMs.

You don't actually need S-Off.
You can flash any rom available for the Amaze 4G.
The only problem is that you may have to manually flash the kernel (boot.img) file.
Has anyone noticed any screen bleed from the capacitive buttons? I bought a slightly used one from the market to use on attand it has horrible screen bleed.
I wish I could send it in to htc for a replacement but I don't think they would allow it. Other than that the phone is basically new. It's a shame but guess I'll either keep it as a backup to my vivid or sell or trade it.

Interesting.. SO the bleed comes from those buttons. Maybe HTC will release a patch to dim them a little. I have the Evo 3 and there is no screen bleed.
Htc makes really solid devices and ive been really happy with what ive seen but.. dunno how to say this
Htc make amazing devices and probably the best but they always have a flaw. Ive had:
touch pro 2- overall not that gr8
Nexus one - screen multitouch problem
Htc hd 2 - screen broke easily (atleast for me cuz i broke 3)
Htc mytouch 4g - actually that was the best phone as far as build quality ive seen (of all time)
Htc sensation - dust bunnies all over ...well everything to be honest
And now screen bleed from the buttons.
Maybe we should write a letter to htc and tell them to check their phones one more time before selling them.
Dont get me wrong regardless of those issues i still think that Htc makes the best phones.

Really you paid good money for this phone and would take 1 issue over another. It's people like you that encourage these OEM to not gave a damn about quality control . But HTC insist on pushing a multitude of devices every month trust me quality control is the last thing on their mind if it's even there to began with. Didn't mean to come out rude.

I wouldn't even call this screen bleed. The light comes from those buttons and not the lcd screen itself. I am sure it can be solved if they lower the brightness but either way it doesn't bother me. Disable the button light and you wouldn't see it.

Hate to shatter your tiny rose-colored world, but nothing in life is perfect. No matter how much you spend on something, it inherently has flaws [see:luxury items]. Again, find me something perfect--you can't. TBBH, it is just a phone--$500 is a lot of money to you? I'd hate to think of the hell you will raise once you can afford to spend $180k for a house, and it doesn't wipe your @ss for you.
And yes, life is about settling for the things that make you happy, as well as get a job done.

Htc/Samsung/Motorola make really good phones and we pay a good amout of money for them but lately the have been halfassing on the quality control and thats not good. We have to tell them to fix it because we are the final consumer.
Im pretty sure that if there was no screen bleed we wouldve found something else to be unsatisfied about but this is xda. We are here to improve the user experience and in order to do that we cant think like you.

So.....
Back to the reason I started this thread, After 4 days with my Amaze I have to say I love it, my Optimus-T feels like a toy in comparison now. I do however notice the bleed from the capacitive buttons and would like to be able to set a time out regardless of lighting situation, which would take care of any real complaints since you would most likely only notice it while viewing some sort of media.

[Q] Coming from the HTC family, what can you tell me?

For the last couple of years I've held in my hand an HTC device. I became very familiar with their S-OFF procedures and I am just curious what things are like for Motorola users. I know I should probably search, but I'd like some opinions rather than guides. How is Moto's bootloader unlocking different than HTC? Does Moto have an unlock tool like HTC's halfa** tool? Anyone else here move from HTC, is it worth it?
I'm picking one up later today on craigslist so I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into. Currently, I've got an EVO 3D.
I moved to the photon from an EVO 3D as well. I always used HTC phones going as far back as the HTC Mogul. I actually prefer Blur over Sense. There is a ton of little things about this phone that make it better, in my eyes mind you, than the 3D.
I've honestly never even thought about going back to an HTC. That is until now. With the evo lte coming out its provoking the need for a new toy.
I got this phone in October and I still don't wanna run it over with a tank.
Anything specific you wanna know?
No root tool, however, the root method is simple and pain free if you are capable and can follow directions.

Thanks for the info! I've wanted the Photon 4G since I renewed last fall but I chose the EVO 3D (coming from the EVO 4G). I was pretty disappointed with the 3D in general and I've regret the decision of getting it in the first place. But from your personal use, how's battery life? Is the Tegra 2 better than the S3/Adreno 220 in the 3D? I enjoy playing games and so far (Modern Combat 3, BackStabHD) have performed pretty well on the 3D. Any experience with these on the P4G?
Go back to the HTC family.
Sent from my ICS Shooter 3D
Battery life on the P4G is a lot better for me at least than the 3D ever was. Another note, reception. Leaps and bounds over Sammy and just a hair better than HTC. Wifi, data, calls and texts. To me 3g is unless on this phone. I sit on a super fast Wifi connection at home and 4g blankets the places I go.
As far as games go, my gaming extent is angry birds and techno kitten adventure.

Lol from experience with the P4G or because you have a 3VO?
3g is fine. I personally can't tolerate how slow it is.
You've got a point. I just assumed it was my area. Everything shows as 3G on my EVO but I swear it's 1x/EvDO. I think it's just to make people happy
Yeah. I work from home so unless I leave the house I'm on a 100meg connection. If my phone ever says 3g, I don't even bother with using data.
Any other specific stuff?
Thats about it. Thanks very much! Once I get the phone I'll post any questions if I have any but it sounds like I'll enjoy it!
Ok I picked up the Photon... so far so good (overall). I have two issues though that maybe you can help me with.
1) Headset might be busted. Plugin in headset the phone goes nuts making calls, bringing up voice commands - tried with two known working headsets. Audio sounds like hissy/tinny. If I push the plug to the side it sounds ok so I'm think it's loose? I'll get a Torx set from RadioShack tomorrow and check more.
2) The phone is slow. On the home screen, swiping between each screen has such a tremendous lag. The music player takes almost a minute to load the songs from my SD card (roughly 3000 songs). I just did another factory reset so we'll see how it goes.
Yeah. That sounds like it's broken.
Hard reset should fix the slow problem. I use ADW EX to replace the shock ui but that's just cause I like it better and I got the circle folders.
Anything else?

I tried a gameloft game tonight, Modern Combat 3 and I get to the 3rd splash screen and it reloads the app. I'm downloading the data files for BackStab HD now to see if that one will work.
HDMI out is pretty unimpressive. When you move from one app to another you can see a transparent image of the previous screen behind the active one. Not a big deal, HDMI out isn't a huge deal but for videos/pics I think it'd be fine.
Hopefully tomorrow with be a better day with this puppy. If I keep having problems I'll just claim it through Asurion.
EDIT: HDMI is fine. Problem was with a crappy HDTV.

Asurion Replacement for HTC Evo 3D is...

my wife dropped her HTC Evo 3D and cracked the screen, she has Insurance so i jumped onto Asurion.com and was going through the Process, i know at times they offer the EpicTouch4G as a replacement, but they were offering her a HTCEVO-Standard, is this the Older HTC Evo 4G? the one she upgraded from a year ago to the Evo 3D, and now they are trying to give it to her as a replacement for the 3D, i understand you get something of equal , but i really consider that a DOWNGRADE, i know it couldnt be the HTC Evo LTE, seems like it would of said something like HTCEVO-LTE or something along that, i could be wrong, anyone know for sure what the HTCEVO-standard is? am i correct at thinking its the HTC EVO 4G?
I'm pretty sure it's the Evo 4G. Call and get something better. Ask for a SG2

I called them and it was the old HTC EVO 4g and not the EVO 4g LTE , I told them I was not going to give them $100 to go back to a 4G, I explained that only a year ago I had the HTC EVO 4g and paid $200 to upgrade to the EVO 3d, now I have to pay $100 to get a 4g back again, so $300 and 2 years later I have the phone I started out on, the EVO 4g, I told her I was not happy and wasn't doing it, she insisted they were comparable and that's all she could offer, or I could wait 5 days for their stock of EVO 3d's to come in and they would ship me one and I would get it within 2 days of when they come in, again I wasn't happy, having to wait 7+ days for my wife to have a working phone, so I asked to speak to her manager, she put me on hold and I guess switched me over to a manager which then I explained to her my situation, she put me on hold so she could check their inventory of phones, she then came back and said she could offer me the Samsung galaxy s2 which I gladly accepted, I also got this as a replacement for my 3d, I just wonder how many people actually accept the EVO 4g as a replacement for their broken 3d?

Sorry, bad explanation, I hit the power button to turn the screen on and off until I get it to respond. It usually makes it through the ring lock, but then its either unresponsive or acts like there's pressure. Sometimes the capacitive buttons may not work either (actually more like a majority of the time). It happens a lot, like maybe 10-20% of the time I want to use the phone, seems to be getting worse. Maybe I better deal with it before I get locked out...
I'm a little leery of Samsung after my Moment debacle, but I can't deny that the Transform was alright and my wife's Intercept did do the job well. It seems they've made strides for sure.

if i had a non working EVO 3D id absolutely would get that switched out with an S2, they just got their official ICS out, and its bigger and faster.
my girl has an T-Mobile S2 and it screams, its great to use and handle. and takes 100x better pictures.. "someone" on xda whoses a "tmo tech" let out that the TMO S2 is set for an Official JB update later this year after the S3 gets it.
the extend batteries and accessory options are better and cheaper as well.
and if it wasnt bad enough the Epic 4g Touch has the better and faster chipset than the TMO S2.
Pull the trigger if u got the chance....
Oh and its also worth more too in the resale market...

I'm a little leery of Samsung after my Moment debacle, but I can't deny that the Transform was alright and my wife's Intercept did do the job well. It seems they've made strides for sure.

I see... Yeah I do the same thing to fix mine. Exact same thing happens to me that the buttons don't even work.
I've considered trying to get a replacement but last time I tried they just restored my phone and the problem stopped. Now it's happening again.

Her replacement arrived today and its brand new not a refurbished , she couldnt be happier! If I was you I would pull the trigger as soon as I seen the replacement as a epic touch 4g or if it says HTC EVO standard call and tell them u don't wanna downgrade and ask what else they have to offer, u might have to be firm with them and talk to a manager but just let them know u don't want the EVO 4g as a replacement, good luck!

My evo 3d does not conect to computer and somtimes it freezes. My cousin has the galaxy s2 but in my opinion i like the htc sence and rom over the samsung. I also know that there is a better selection of roms to chose from on the evo 3d. I am on mikvergin rom and cant wait for ice cream sandwich so i can overlock the deoman. Sorry for the spelling i am on my 8th beer.i also have s-of on hboot 1.5
Good deal

Yes, you should get a Galaxy S2 replacement!
Asurion replaced my Evo3D with a GS2 on June 5. It wasn't a refurb, it was brand new. The GS2 was the only choice I had, and I was really upset until I received it. I loved my Evo3D! I miss the 3d and the Sense UI. :crying:
I'm really happy with the Galaxy S2 now tho, especially the USB storage.
I wouldn't have taken the Evo4G, either -- that's b.s! Good luck to the people with future 3d accidents! Insist on the GS2 and don't accept less!
(I had dropped the Evo3D on the street getting out of my car, in Texas, in 105°! I didn't notice for 30 minutes, and it cooked the bottom buttons, (home-menu etc.)

Sorry, bad explanation, I hit the power button to turn the screen on and off until I get it to respond. It usually makes it through the ring lock, but then its either unresponsive or acts like there's pressure. Samsung Moment, a nightmare of a phone that will haunt me for the rest of my existence, but this E4GT is hella worth it especially with CM9 on it!

if i had a non working EVO 3D id absolutely would get that switched out with an S2, they just got their official ICS out, and its bigger and faster.
my girl has an T-Mobile S2 and it screams, its great to use and handle. and takes 100x better pictures..

Samsung/Sprint borked the shat out of the ICS update for this phone, ppl are saying they think it's deliberate so we'll just go out & buy the S3 lol, but since kernel source was released too, we now have a source built kernel for CM9 & we're about to be official, this is definitely the best time to own a E4GT!

[Q] Is it worth it?

Hey Guys
I'm moving back to the big red in about a week and I've had my eye on the note since it was first anounced internationally. I really want to know is it worth the hefty $300? I really want to get it and finally have a great smartphone, but I'm afraid that I'll hate it, or have buyer's remorse within the first couple months after. What do you guys think?
That all depends on what your looking for. I personally think this is the best phone ever (as long as we can get this bad boy unlocked which is looking pretty good). For me it was about size, I love the size of this phone but I completely understand those who think it's too big (there just wrong but it's okay) and then there's the spen I personally haven't used it that much but if you like it then there really isn't any other option. So if you want one or both of those then I'd say get it, if not than maybe the s3 or the dna might be a better choice(be careful with the dna though with the battery and sd situation).
I completely agree with everything he said, it is ridiculous the battery life this thing gets I'm a power user and I still have battery left the end of the day which is just nuts not to mention the phone is awesome.

I actually love the size of that thing, aha. I want it for the fact that it's a beast when it comes to processing power and screen size. I also like that I can also expand the memory on it. I was thinking about the DNA, but I'm coming back from the EVO lte, and I actually hated what HTC did to ICS, and I also don't trust that small battery with a 1080p screen running all day. So would you say it's a go?

If the size of the phone isn't a problem for you, then go for it. Keep in mind that Best Buy will match the price of Amazon, I got mine for $200.
I'm partial to the note but I will tell you the dna is a fast phone with a great cam and screen I have both. .. The dna however is going on ebay for Christmas money. . . It's all what you like and how much you want to spend... The battery isn't the downfall for me it is the memory but not everyone needs more then 10gb of memory

totally agree with everyone. its the best phone i ever owned and ive had alot. you will not regret it.
Actually still debating this myself, I already have the phone but am deciding if it's worth keeping and selling my Galaxy nexus or returning and keeping the nexus. The note is faster, has much better battery life and radios, but $850 is $850. I have until like January 2nd o chose so I will see what happens.
You get 14 days to decide, which I feel is plenty. I definitely think it's worth the $300 coming from my Incredible.

If you buy on contract, you only have 14 days to cancel an upgrade though. I've heard best buy or some other retailers give you more time to decide you want another phone, but you still have to keep a verizon smartphone contract after the 14 since that part is up to verizon. Since the OP said $300 I'm assuming he's buying it on contract.
Edit: To be clear that is what I've heard online, not from official sources. But I've heard people say Best Buy associates often make it seem you have the full 30 to completely back out when it's only to switch phones in the last 16.
I don't think the size of the phone is as gigantic and everyone makes it out to be. I have a size 29 waist and it fits fine in all of my pants even with the fairly bulky flip cover. The only issue I could think of is if you have small hands and mostly want to use it one-handed. I don't have any issue with this, and I found that typing one-handed isn't bad when you use the stock one-hand keyboard which shifts the keys toward one side of the screen.
If you get it from verizon the holiday return policy is good till jan 15 for any purchases after nov 27

Hi,
Why so much. I thought it was 699 off contract plus tax?
Thanks,
Bryan
I paid $700 for mine (So I can keep my unlimited data) and I still think it is worth it at that price. For as much as I use, what I use it for, and the battery life is amazing, I couldn't imagine having any other phone. The size of the phone becomes a nonfactor once you adjust to it. I know I will have this phone for quite awhile and look forward to what the next Galaxy Note has in store for us down the road.

I did the same thing for the same reason. I wanted the first note but that didn't come out on verizon and I'm glad it didn't. The extra GB of system memory really allows the note 2 to multi task. What blows me away is I can put the phone through the ringer and not have to charge it until I want to (when I go to bed).

Switch to a new phone and missed your evo?

I switched to a galaxy s3 and had been using it for some time.
Things started going bad about a month or so ago, my sd card reader stopped working right, the area around my home button excessively heated up since day one, screen got scratched easily, and lastly, what made me activate my evo again, my charging port went out.
My god I forgot what a solid phone felt like. Just the touchscreen alone made me realize how cheap Samsung phones are.
I missed the build quality and responsiveness of this phone (although this one is starting to go on me, but its been through a lot)
In fact, I like my evo so much I have no motivation to take my s3 to Sprint again so they can order me a replacement (they told me to take it again if the port failed after they fixed it)
Anyone have something similar happen?

Yeah, I'd have to agree...this phone is a rock compared to the s3. If you wanna switch back, let Sprint replace your s3, then call customer service and have them activate your evo, then sell the s3. Should be able to get a couple hundred bucks for it.
