Cant remember for the life of me how i did it, but I turned off my capacitive button leds. Could have been via a patch or changing some file or something, but I cant find the thread that it was in.
Anyone remember where to find it?
I'm on a stock ROM, and yes I have searched high and low already. Id rather not have to flash a stock ROM over what I already have if possible.

There's no need a patch, just enable/disable it via settings, can't remember where but check display settings.
Edit: isadora was quicker.
Thanks guys, there I was over complicating things again.

can someone please tell me how to disable auto brightness on
x10i eternity rom build 003
i tried using every brightness app/widget possible to turn it off but as soon as i turn it off and put the phone under different light setting i can see that the auto brightness is still on
i tried using adjbrightness but it keeps telling me that my phone isnt rooted; anyone get this app to work on x10??
please help n sorry if this questions been asked and answered before. this forum is getting too big and broad sometimes to find anything
thx in advance
Have you tried Sparepart? (That's the name)
Strange, i can't seem to turn on my autobrightness. It used to work perfectly in android 1.6. And i haven't noticed it untill recently. When auto brightness is checked, it just stays the same, even when i hold it directly under a lamp. Maby there is a bug in the software that prevents switching it on or off?
I'd also like an answer to this problem, because with auto brightness on the telephone is a battery eater.. you have to keep it to the minimum level to disable it, but when you are under a strong light, like outdoor with a sunny weather, it's difficult to see your screen's details. as you select a brightness level different from zero, the autobrightness turns on and eats the battery.
I hope I'm missing the solution to this, and somebody will help, because all the applications i've tried (spareparts included) didn't worked.
I'm quite confuse now.....
What actually do we need......
Turn it on...
or
Turn it off...
LOL
heh, so some people want a way to turn it off and others, like me, want to find a way to turn it on?
what a crazy phone..
I'm sure there used to be a tick box in the display settings to turn on/off the auto brightness. Anyway, i've tried various applications myself to get it on but nothing does it. I think the best solution is for us all to swap phones .
Spare Parts doesn't work for me, i tried enabling it, restarting the phone and jumping under my duvet.. but it didn't change
Did you update to 2.1? It was disabled in 2.1 as far as I know.
So the easiest solution, upgrade to 2.1! Else, I don't remember the menu but it's somewhere in the settings under 1.6.
I think we've all updated to 2.1 here =)
and yes, in 1.6 there was a box to tick to unable/disable autobrightness.
But, in 2.1, this feature has disappeared, leaving a seekbar and a damned widget which doesn't allow you to set or no autobrightness.
Hi,
The autobrightness is still there. It can be turned on/of from a stock SE connection widget. The different state for brightness is "minimum" -> "auto" -> "maximum"

Thats pretty much, exactly, what dpk0875 said, if i'm not mistaken.

I can get, either 0%, or 100% brightness, with the ambient sensor disabled. Anything in-between, fades constantly.
No fix for this, i presume?
Reading websites while the screen fades in/out every couple of seconds drives me mad.
Ive never had any problem with it as long as you dont lean in front of it all the time lol.

Is there any mod that can disable notification LED and sensitive buttons LEDs forever? I know there is a few apps that can do that. But I don't wanna use apps, I noticed some custom ROMs ship with that option. I'm using stock ROM. Sorry for creating a new thread for that. But I can't find a solution for EVO 3D that would work for me. Thanks
I'm sure there will be something released like that. Nothing to my knowledge as of yet. Just something to dim the capacitive buttons.
And this goes in the Q&A section. I hope you have thick skin. Pm a mod to have it moved

It wouldn't be too hard to do. You can see what needs changed in the kernel in my thread here. I have a version that has no capacitive LEDs and the notification LED will shut off after 5 mins or so.

well... not sure about the blinking LED's... but let me ask you this: how will you know when your phone is charged?
and as for the soft keys, if you have root explorer, navigate to...
/sys/devices/platform/leds-pm8058/leds/button backlight/currents
when you select the button backlight directory, the "currents" is a file. long press on this file until a little menu pops up, select "open in text editor" the value there should be default 20. change it to zero, then hit your menu soft key and select "save and exit"
your leds are now off.
EDIT** and before you do all of that, you will need to select the little grey box at the top of root explorer to mount the system files as "RW", otherwise you wont be able to edit the currents file (as it will be read only)

it worked but only until the next restart. It restores default value everytime... Why?

because the LED is controlled by the kernel... so, although you can manually fix it for a moment to the value you want, every time the phone boots, the phone resets the value.
the only way to make it permanent is to have a kernel with disabled LEDs

If you just don't want the bottom buttons to light up, use the kernel I linked in my earlier post (assuming you are using a 2.3.4 ROM). If you're still using a 2.3.3 ROM, you can find a kernel call nolights made by joe85 (which is where I found the changes to make in the kernel for 2.3.4).
Yay! Now i will finally be able to sleep at night!
Hi guys, I got my sgs3 within the first 1/2 hour of its official launch and I had been playing around with for the past few hours.
Does anyone notice that the screen automatically dim when watching a video on the stock player? I have already eat the brightness setting to max under manual in the display settings. The stock player has no options or settings to disable auto brightness. Is there any way to work around this?

yes where the screen brightness setting is in settings theres another setting below which says auto adjust backlight power or something untick that

I don't think I have that. =[ I'm on stock 4.0.4 ICS Rom.

Same problem here. Tried that same setting too doesnt help..
The video player has a separate setting for brightness. Go to setting from within the video player to change it.
I did something silly on my SSGII - the controls for brightness in the settings menu were extremely sluggish, so I managed to disable auto-brightness and set it to 0 - this somehow now also disables all input buttons, so as soon as playback starts, the display goes black.
I can only get control back by pushing the powerbutton twice (to 'turn off display' and 'turn on display' again), slide the lockscreen out of the way and as quickly as possible push the back-button before the display goes black again..
This thread is the closest I've been able to locate with respect to the stock player in the stock ROM on a Samsung.
Would anyone know if there's a settings-file somewhere I can edit or delete to get my player back?

hi to all!
I would like to modify Android in this way :
1) When i'm in the desktop , must be start a count Y and at the finish of Y there must start lockscreen in automatic.
For example( Y=15) after 15 second that i'm on desktop and i don't touch monitor must be start lockscreen
2) when i'm in any application or menu must be start another counter (X ) (when i don't touch monitor) and when X=0 dysplay must be off.
For use dyplay i want to touch monitor and display must go ON .
If possibile i can use:
-SDK developer
or
-MOD rom
or
-tasker.
Is this possibile? use more more battery if i poweroff only monitor?
Where i can do this?
thx!:good:

This would require an app at the very least, more likely, it would require a complete teardown of the android system, editing the code specific to your device and controlling your hardware. Once the screen goes to sleep the touch input is "off", you may be able to mod the system so touching a key will turn on the screen, but I think thats probably the best you'll get.
Sorry guy.

Ok if i can touch the monitor for turn ON i can use a touchkeys?
Do this:
1) When i'm in the desktop , must be start a count Y and at the finish of Y there must start lockscreen in automatic.
For example( Y=15) after 15 second that i'm on desktop and i don't touch monitor must be start lockscreen

For use diplay i want to touch one key(preset / for example search keytouch)and display must go ON .
it's possibile? ther'is any application do this?
Or i can use tasker for do this?
thx
Touch keys would work if you found an app that supports it, or made the mod. As far as tasker or other apps go, I'm not sure, you can search to see if you find what you're looking for:beer:

I've never used tasker, so I'm unfamiliar with it. If you're looking for an app, try the development forums. If you can already do this with tasker, then go for it. I'm sorry I can't be of more help on this matter, I merely explained why you hadn't gotten responses to your OP.

ok thx for reply.
Then android when ggo into lockscreen turnOff display and other task and go into a mod call DeepSleep. into this mode kill more task and reduce use of memory and cpu .
Also Android when turn off display is not possibile turn ON it touching display but is possibile turn on it touching a touchkeys.
But when i only turn off brightness can i turn ON it only touching display?
thx!

Yes and no, if you set it so your phone never sleeps and set your brightness to zero, your phone isn't really "off", so you'd still be using the cpu and processes, not saving any battery life. But you would be able to essentially "wake" your phone by touching the display and turning the brightness back up. This isn't going to give you the results you're looking for though.
To truly do what you want, you'll need a mod, or like I said originally, some sort of app.

ok then turn only off brightness don't save battery.
But if i know which task android kill and use cpu and ram i can kill it when i turn off brightness whitout disable monitor.
This is difficult but in this mode i can re-use the telephone only touching the screen and i save battery..it's ok?
Otherwise:
1.) i don't save battery when i use telephone and i turn off only brightness when i'm in a menu or app , while i'm on the desktop i save battery and i activate lookscreen.
Where can I find an application or a programmer / modder to help me do this?
I have not yet if i can do this using only an application with root permissions or if I need a MOD in the rom ( or MOD in kernel).
thx

Your best bet to find an app or Dev that will do this is to look in the development forums for your phone and in the q&a forums. Best of luck to you, I hope you get it worked out:beer:

thanks , very thanks for reply! i search now
For some reason I see the brightness changes automatically in certain apps.
The auto brightness is off and set to full.
The brightness dims in the following screens:
1. Open original browser it dims , if entering web address it is back to full. Chrome does not encounter same problem
2. Original samsung mail app (not GMAIL) dims. If writing a new mail (reply/forward) it goes back up.
The brightness in the browser settings is set to full (not auto).
I tried to find an answer on the web but could not find. It drives me crazy!!!
Must say that I have the phone for 3 months and it started only a few days ago.
the only thing I can remember is that I was on WIFI and it started to update apps but how can I know what was changed and [email protected]#$ed my brightness control?
I assume that you're using a stock (or stock-based) ROM. Try to enter settings and deactivate the power saving mode if it's enabled. Then reboot - just to be sure - and look if the issue is gone.
Can't think of anything else at the moment...
Hope it helps
In stock browser disable auto brightness setting.

I can't believe I missed it. I've tried brightness in stock browser, tried battery saving from brightness menu.
I just didn't notice the toggle of battery saving in the main menu.
Thanks...
