My worse nightware with SGS1 was the laggy desktops - I loved the phone - but the lag was too much for me I hate the lag. so i decided to invest on the SGS2 beast. Problem is I still can see some lag, tiny, but its there i'm sure. In a microscopic scale.
Tried several kernels to workaround the problem and a couple of rom (with I removed cos I love the oficial rom).
Maybe theres some savior on this forum that can help me out.
Anyone?
Different kernels won't fix your problem.
Looks like you have a dilemma. You say you want your phone as fast and lag free as possible. But you also say that you want to use the stock rom.
You could try the rom in my siginature if you really want a lag free and fast rom. It's an AOSP rom, you ain't gonna find any faster.
Cons: Samsung apps don't work. Bluetooth is not fully working at the moment.
You could try a different launcher.
if you want speed try Zeam launcher off the market its very lightweight.
Thanks guys I'll into both options after work, have a good day!
launcherpro is also very smooth. On my 720mhz motorola xt720 it was very smooth and customizable.... So i assume on a 1.2ghz dual core with 4xram it would be gd
MIUI - I've been converted. Without doubt, it's the fastest and smoothest UI I've seen on any phone.
One thing to keep in mind: The more graphic load you'll have on your screens (icons, widgets etc) the more lag will appear.
That being said I'm running Go Launcher EX and have busy screens, yet no noticable lag at all. Running latest VillainROM, no other fancy mods.
Can you elaborate a little on that? In kinda newb in this >.<

You can flash so called ROMs on your device which replace the stock software.
They are often tweaked towards better battery life, speed amongst other stuff. You can find all of these ROMs here on this board.
E.G. Lightning Rom 6.1 is very popular.
MIUI is another ROM, all are based on Android but have a different style and approach. MIUI -though very promising- is still very new and quite beta, so I wouldn't advice going with it yet. VillainROM and Lightning Rom are very stable and safe to install.
Search around for tutorials on how to flash them, there's plenty of how to's ;-)
As for the Launcher, "Go Launcher EX" is one of many launchers you can replace on your phone. The stock one by Samsung is called Touchwiz, others basically look and feel different and have other tweaks on board. Here is where tastes differ. But with any launcher you'll have lag if you overload the screens and most will be quick and responsive if you use them in a minimalistic way.
It's not because of the phone itself, it's because of the poor coding in the widgets etc. Most don't really optimize for speed, unfortunately.
GO launcher EX is by far the smoothest launcher I've used, so give that a shot. Launcher pro and ADW launcher are both smooth as well but I find them to be more undertake unstable and have more problems when it comes to mounting apps that are installed to sdcard.
I also heard that fugutweaks also help smoothen the UI though I've never confirmed this myself.

MIUI is a Chinese made ROM that is clearly built on the Android base, but bears very little resemblance to it. At first use it looks very similar to iOS, which I know will put a lot of people off, but it is ridiculously customisable, and all from the UI, without the need for flashing anything. For example, there's a themes app where you can completely re-skin the whole device at the click of a button, and it has an online database of themes that can be downloaded, again with just the click of a button. But once you have themes on your device you can then mix and match elements of each one to make your perfect theme.
I've literally never seen customisation like it.
If you're interested, read more here...

Hey man many thanks for your answer.
So if I understood right, theres no way I can have a silky smooth touchwiz on my phone. I must choose another one...
...and if that right, which one you recomend based on smoothness and looks similar to touchwiz?

First thing you could try is this:
1. Download Go Launcher EX from the market.
2. Install this GO Launcher Ex theme: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gau.go.launcherex.theme.TouchWiz&hl=nl
It has the looks from touchwhiz.
If you are not satisfied, start learning about flashing roms. Then choose a rom and start the procedure from above.

Thanks man I will try it after work.
You may want to try other launchers as well: I love Zeam, which is a lightweight launcher. It doesn't have a huge lot of features but it is always fast to startup and it has enough features for me. If you need to customise the icons on your dock, you should use the Desktop Visualiser and long press on the homescreen>add>shortcut>Desktop Visualiser.
Launcher Pro is another alternative, as is ADW launcher.
You'll need a launcher switcher to toggle between all the launchers--well, as long as you have more than one!
Thanks man. I'll dig into that as well and I did tried some roms too but as I stated before I just want to fix the stocks lag. Nothing more I love everything on it...

It stutters ocassionally, it IS smooth, but it stutters too.
I think it began happening when I updated through kies to 2.3.4.
If you really don't need all the Samsung stuff (Kies, Samsung Apps etc) then I recommend Oxygen Rom and Zeam Launcher.
Very very straightforward question here
Is it possible for developers to add multitouch-gestures for their roms? E.g. 5-finger pinch to close apps like the iPad.
And yes - I know this is not an ipad, and I wouldn't buy one if my life depended on it. But I DO think the multitouch-gestures of iOS are pretty neat
Sent from my GT-P7500 using XDA App
It would be great to have multitouch gestures for actions like going back too.
I remember LMT had these features on windows mobile, but android is build differently and makes that thing hard (quite impossible actually) to set.
Feel free to release your hate for touchwiz, i know we can use other apps to "fix" our phones but there's not an easy solution for everythin, gwhat are the things that you hate the most about it? In my opinion:
1.The lockscreen: Even tough i like the slider for received sms or missed calls i find it ridiculous, its slow and unpractical, you have to drag the wallpaper through 70% to unlock the phone
2.The launcher: its not that bad, but it is NOT smooth while flicking through the homescreens
3.The cheesy blue font, really samsung? a blue font in menus?
4.The messaging app: again the blue font, and the app it's just an iphone ripoff
5.The dialer/contacts: looks ugly and the image for the contacts its streched :/
6. Autobrightness also in the browser? huh? why?
7. Gallery on drugs? Its all sped up and is not overly responsive
8. No "," on the keyboard ( you have to switch to the special characters)
9. No option to deactivate just the keyboard vibration, in order to do it you must deactivate the vibration on the capacitive buttons too
10. Icons are really ugly
11. Hubs are pointless, the only non disposable one is the game hub
12. Samsung apps are horrendous, has someone download something useful from there?
13. No music widget? um why? i know there's a "shortcut" on the notification but a widget would have been nice
14. No text reflow on the browser
I should also mention that the camera app is better than stock android and i also like the way you change the wallpaper and add widgets, the browser is really smooth , is it true it has hardware
acceleration?
I know gingerbread is fugly but starting from ice cream sandwich just stick to making amazing hardware samsung
1. Normal Android and iOS, you have to drag an a thumb size **** for entire screen rather than anywhere of the screen, seems more hard to me.
2. Same on all androids... Try HTC next time.
3. Where did you get blue fonts? I don't see them
8. *cough* I have "." on keyboard. Do you by any chance use another launcher?
14. Actually text reflows on mine, and it is not TW launcher, it is android
Seriously dude, rest are just "objective" rather than facts.
I like TW and it is lighter than any other "default" launchers on rest of Android devices. Even sense on my friend's HTC's feels slow.
I hope Samsung does not give us butt-naked Android UI for ICS... TW4 is next best thing in Android other than core underground.
Please read why rest of Tech-editor hates Android's UI's, since I did not see much using SGS2... Beside it is not like Samsung locked you to use it. There are too many launchers out there...
I think TW is a good solid launcher. I dont use TW daily, but i dont agree with 90% of your points.
Same as the above poster really. i dont have blue fonts and also have a "." on the keyboard.
I'd strongly have to disagree with the not smooth on the home screens. Mine is seriously nippy.
Probably the only reason i dont use it is that i like to change my icons, so i will give you that one.
The stretching in the dial can be fixed by using a picture with the correct resoultion.

I agree 100% with everything! But you forgot the most annoying thing of all. The king of all annoyances! The child of Annoying Orange and Fred! The 100% battery charge notification!!! Who in their right mind would not think of including an option to turn it off?!
In all fairness, most of these issues (including the ball on leg on a hot summer's day battery notification) can be solved through different apps. But why should I?
edit: forgot to add that there is no stock android music widget (or any at all) in the widget list
i just love touchwiz no complains

1. Is it SO hard to move your finger two centimeters on any direction? Try other phones (HTC, Nexus).
2. Yes, it's quite good for most people. I don't really like it and i use Adw Launcher Ex. There's a lot free alternatives too.
3. What's wrong with these fonts? Are you aware of "Themes" section on this forum?
4. Yes, i totally agree on that one. It's an ifone rip off. On older ROMs at least we had an option to change theme, now it's gone. The only thing that really bugs me so much.
5. Pictures are fine for me and dialer app too. Would love to have an option to jump straight into favorites, instead of all contacts, though.
6. Yes and i love it! BTW, you can click "Menu" and disable it in no time.
7. That's slightly modded stock Android gallery and it's performance depends on amount of media files you have. Also, i guess you have some cheap class 2 SD card. And again, you can use QuickPic from Market, it's free and very fast.
8. I guess you meant "," not "." Yes, that's why i use Gingerbread Keyboard. Again, free on Market.
9. There's is an option to deactivate vibration for keyboard only. Settings - Language and keyboard - Samsung keyboard.
10. Personaly i love every single of them. Again, you can change any icon on this phone the way YOU like. It's Android
11-13 BS. Don't like them - don't use. Simple as that. And try some HTC phone and you will be surprised to find about 20 times more of bloatware.
14. Open browser - settings - auto-fit pages.
As i can see, you don't like every single bit on this phone. Why did you buy it? There's a good bunch of other phones.
And one tip: learn to use your phone, before blaming Samsung
I agree with some of your points, OP.
But the BIGGEST thing (at least in my experience) was how crappy Touchwiz performed compared to AOSP. Again, this is at least in my experience.
I hear good things about TW4 though.... I hope it's true!

Sorry, but I'm not seeing anything other than opinion. The vast majority of people actually really like TW on the S2, rating it higher than the other launchers. As for Sense, that's just another Launcher. You may as well start a thread for your favourite word processor, stating how it's better than the others, and then one explaining why you really like a certain art package or database app.
So you prefer Sense to TW. You should have a HTC phone then, not a Samsung one.
So what WP7 UI- like apps do you guys use?
Why do you use them and what are the pros and cons?
I've seen metro UI and launcher 7. And some messaging apps. None of them are up to my expectation even if they are great. But they are amazing.
So what are your thoughts?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
I use Launcher 7, Messaging Metro Beta, and WP7Contacts. Launcher 7 and Messaging metro are my favorite because in my opinion, they are nearly perfect.
I use WP7Contacts because I like the simpleness of the WP7 contacts, but I think it could be better. For example, the Facebook integration doesn't work for me (it never logs in) and when I add a new contact and enter their phone number the number is lost if I leave that page without clicking save. I don't know if this is on purpose or what, but I have lost phone numbers several times because I didn't click save.
Lately I have been trying the WP7Contact Lite app because the developer is very responsive, replies to my questions, and updates the app frequently unlike the WP7Contacts developer. I will probably permanently switch to WP7Contact Lite eventually, but for now the only thing keeping me from doing that is the inability to edit contacts inside the app (it opens the stock contact editor when you click edit) and the fact that it list all of the phone numbers under the mobile heading.

So far, I have only tested on Launcher 7. I would say, it is still not up to my expectation, as it doesn't have Live Title feature. So, I would prefer to get a real WP7 phone, if I really want to have Metro UI. Android is pretty difficult to mimic the look n feel of Metro UI.
None of them do WP7 justice.

I dont know why everyone is saying launcher 7 isnt that great. The app does have live tiles and is very smooth for me. Right now I have 5 live tiles running (2 photo tiles, calendar tile, email tile and contacts tile, plus the fly in/out animations) and it still runs smooth. And I have it all themed up to look nice and sexy. lol. Thats one thing this launcher has over actual WP7. You can make the tiles anything you want.
I also use Metro Messaging Beta and it is almost identical to WP7 as far as look goes. Just donate to the dev and you can get a lot more features. Its worth it.
WP7lock is a nice WP7 like lockscreen. But use "No Lock" from the market along with it because the stock lockscreen likes to take over sometimes.
I've used the wp7lock before and loved it (wish it was updated) launcher 7 was always well but i could never "get into it" and the metro messaging beta "donate for notifications" pissed me off to no end. the user smartdev is coming out with an wp7 messaging app that looks really interesting!

Looks amazing but .... How is it for speed, lag, smoothness, fluidity etc compared to touchwiz and particularly nova launcher
Tried it and went back
I had this installed for less than a day. It looks great and gives you loads of freedom. Also has a lot of nice gimmicks.
Ultimately it wasn't for me. Slow animations, couple of crashes, doesn't run well without a notification icon.. Also the desktop switcher looks dreadful (IMO) and you can't really change it the way that I would like.
Also has the worst app drawer if seen. No way to sort apps manually, no way to make the side margins bigger (to move the app icons closer to the center of the screen).. And animated flames on newly downloaded apps... It's a matter of taste I guess.
I got a refund. Great launcher, but not worth the price (even discounted). I'll stick with Nova. I really advice to try before you buy.
It's not really true what you're saying. I'm using latest version of TSF since a few days and hadn't one single crash. I don't know what you doing wrong.
Slow animations? Not true. I love the way i can customize this launcher. The animations are smooth and very nice. l can't absolutely understand what you're saying. Except the price.
So this launcher is great. The dockbar isn't static and great to work with a tablet. Also switching between sides and appdrawer with using the pen only is unique to this launcher. 0k,Next Launcher is going a similar way.
l like TSF. It's a very intuitive launcher. Definitely worth a try and i will stay with it. Apex or Noca are great launchers (i like nova more cuz of it's nicer looking hiding dock animation). But TSF is something different. A customizable, intuitive launcher with a very good desktop management for working.
Edit: in connection with All in One Gestures even better.

Hard to see how it's not true since these are my experiences and opinions. I'm glad the launcher is working out for you though.
The animations are not slow as in laggy or anything. The launcher just has these detailed and long animations. It takes a second compared to the minimalistic and fast animations of Nova.
My point is that Nova gets the job done. It's fast and stable. TSF is something you have to experience, because you either love it or hate it. (And again, that's my opinion)

There are no long animations lol... its as fast as apex or nova. I'm using TSF since days in work and for playing. Long testing period and its stable and.. fast for me. IMO i suggest you to check your os. There must be something wrong
The l launcher runs great and have more useful features for desktop management then any other launcher. One great example is the lasso mode by double clicking for selecting more icons then just one. So you have to admit novas learning curve is continually on one level.
