Well I saw this in another thread so I think it'd be cool to start here!
What device were you using before you purchased your Galaxy s II?
Here's my list:
Some random flip phone
Blackberry curve
iPhone
iPhone 3gs
iPhone 4
Galaxy s II
Galaxy s III (I wish!!)

like the OP I came from the iPhone 3GS. It was my one and only ever Apple product. IMO back in summer 09 nothing matched it even from android. Now things have changed.
I still have to sell my 3GS I keep stalling. I have it rooted (can't unlock it long story) and is a 16GB. Any idea on what I could get for it?
HTC Inspire

HTC Inspire here too! I still have it as a backup phone, the ICS roms available for it rock, a lot of fun to play around with for sure.
iPhone 3G, i got an x10 mini to replace that but the email client on it sucked pretty bad (got it for cheap and didn't want to spend the $ to buy the unlock code so i could try cm7, no idea why but the latest modem doesn't allow the sim to keep on working)
the SGSII is just great, i'm still unsure if i'll get the iphone5 or stay with android.

I came from the Droid X.
Pretty solid phone. I'd have a Nexus right now, but for better or worse (both, IMO), I had to switch to AT&T So, I opted for the GS2 which I had been drooling over for months anyway.
First iPhone 2G, then 3G, then mytouch 3G, iPhone 3GS, 4, then Inspire 4G, captivate, then galaxy s II.

What I am wondering is whether most people are making a small incremental jump in their phone (such as S2 to S3), or a huge jump.
I'll go first... I currently have an HTC Desire HD. It is nearly 2 years old now and it has done me amazingly. I plan on running a custom rom on the S3, just like I did on my DHD. With that in mind I may not notice as bigger difference as some people, although that all depends on what CM9 has in store for us.
How about you guys?
I got a Galaxy S2 and a iPhone 4S. And soon a Galaxy S3?
I got a S2. I upgrade to get a bigger screen.

and will upgrade to S3 soon
Have a nexus s4g and Samsung galaxy s (Epic 4g). Both getting upgraded to gs3.

coming from s2
Most people are making relatively small upgrades. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised that the people on XDA seem to be phone addicts!!!
I cant believe the number of people who have two phones! How come... work and business, or different networks to ensure signal?
HTC Incredible S. Going for S3. First time with Samsung device. Hope it won't disappoint me
Sent from my Incredible S using XDA
Coming from a SGS1, stupid 2 year contracts. While the SGS3 will be a big upgrade for me, by the time the SGS3's 2 year contract is up I will be thinking it's old hat and drooling over whatever 4K resolution, octo-core 3Ghz 5" beast Samsung have out at the time.
Cappy, Infuse, Skyrocket, Note lte, Now the S3
2 year old Desire...
Huuuuge upgrade for me!

Same here. Long time HTC fan, coming from an HTC Desire S (1yr old). First Samsung phone for me. Hope it doesn't disappoint. My only concern is if i'll be able to live without sense. But seeing what they've done to Sense 4, I'm not sure i'll be able to live with it anyway... IMHO, Sense 3.5 was the pinnacle of HTC's Sense UI... Sense 4 seems like a downgrade, so I think i'll be fine (fingers crossed)
The original Galaxy S. Looking forward to the S III
At the moment Huawei Ideos X5, HTC Wildfire and Transformer Prime. Huawei being my main phone at the moment. I traded few months ago my SGS2 to Omnia W and then got rid of it pretty quick, because the WP wasnt my thing. Been waiting for SGS3 since then.
Coming off the horrible HTC Touch Cruise i went on and got the first iPhone. That was a revolution! I´ve since had all the iPhones up to my current iPhone 4. Now I feel the time is right to check out the *other* side of The Force.

Few windows phones as well.

I will be coming from the Captivate (AT&T's Galaxy S).
I'm upgrading from my i9000 which is running on CM9. Hopefully I can get CM9 on the S3 too lol
Greetings! First of all sorry for my bad english.
I'm watching this forums for some time but I finally made an account because I need some advice.
I have Galaxy Ace at the moment and I'm in a search for a new android one.
So i got stuck on Xperia S, Galaxy S2 or something 3rd
And I'm not sure if galaxy S2 is still worth buying? Is there any better dual core andorid?
Quad core is just to much at the moment for me and I don't see any reason to get one.
I found HTC one S is a great phone but it's to costly for me and I really don't like HTC phones.
Anybody?
Best dual core android at the moment? Or at least best for its value
The galaxy S II is still a great phone. Depending who your service provider is you could maybe even get some other phones, but the s2 is amazing. It is one of the most durable phones, even though it does feel cheap. It will come with touchwiz so I suggest you put a custom rom on it. The battery life is pretty nice on it. The screen is nice, large and bright. The phone is very nice, with its biggest downfall being it feels rather cheap, but still a trustworthy phone.

Exhibit A.
buy SGS2 i think is the best 2-core mobile on market
Hello.
So, Yeah. I'm going to get something new.
After I had unfortunate accident when my Droid RAZR broke in my pocket without any crash, I'm receiving new one for warranty and decide to change something, because I hate when phone breaks without reason
I live in Poland, so I need something that reach europe.
What I need... Specs comparable with RAZR (CPU and RAM. Some nice GPU would also be nice), Screen at least same quality as it and overall nice quality.
It would be also welcome to be easily moddable with decent amount of Custom ROMs for it. Official/Unofficial CM support is also welcome.
And one more thing. No SGS2. I'm tired of it.
So. Any propositions?
Thanks in advance!
Galaxy S II is old, why would anyone suggest it with the Galaxy S III is out? If you're tired of Samsung then go for an HTC One X. If not, the Samsung Galaxy S III is waiting to love you. I'd suggest a Nexus but you seem to be pretty content with rooting and ROMs so I guess it isn't necessary.
How about Galaxy Note 2? Supposed to be announced at end of month

If you like rooting and roming, go with the Nexus. Otherwise, Galaxy S III or One X.
Ooh, go for the Xperia gx. Actually, scratch that. I don't think it's available in Europe yet... maybe the acro s... damn I'm not really sure when it comes to Europe.
Sent from my X10i using xda app-developers app
go for the one X, but rooting it might be a bit difficult, if so, then go with a nexus!
I would suggest a Galaxy Nexus. Nexus devices always get the official updates first and will be supported for a long time (for example: Nexus S got JellyBean, Galaxy S which has almost the same hardware has not even gotten official ICS...)
Get Galaxy Note 2. It will be released in few days.
Galaxy s3 is an awesome choice too.
Sent from Samsung Galaxy S3 T999
The nexus s is very close in spec to your RAZR. The camera isn't as nice, but fantastic device none the less. You can get them cheap right now too.
The SGS3 is an incredible device. It blows away the RAZR in performance from every angle.

Thanks for all replies. I think that I'll go with Nexus. However I've got one question about it. I heard that it doesn't have Gorilla Glass display. Can anyone say something about its resistance for little scratches?

If you can get a Galaxy S III go for it because Samsung just came out with the official jelly bean OTA , otherwise Galaxy Nexus ftw...
The Galaxy Nexus does not have a gorilla glass display , only a scratch resistant one...I haven't really tested mine by putting it in my pocket with my keys lol, but If you get a decent screen protector you won't have any problems...
Gorilla Glass is a big plus , but its a small price to pay for the software experience you're getting out of this phone...Pure AOSP Android experience , you will get the latest updates FIRST, and not have to wait like with the SIII for example...or any other phone for that matter...
Plus its a pretty powerful phone..well worth its money right now if you don't care about the mediocre camera...(which I personally think is fine...1080p video at 30fps , with decent lighting it records great... Photos are OK as well so...)
OR if you're good at waiting you can wait for the new nexus to come out that might have a GG display, but Google hasn't even announced it officially yet so...

Hey guys.. I wanted to get your opinion on the galaxy 2. It's upgrade time and I just can't make myself pay the 276 dollars T-Mobile wants for the galaxy 3. It looks pretty good in the reviews, just wondered if anyone has had one and if it was a good one. Or if anyone knows. A way around the price of the G3. Thanks in advance!!!
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda app-developers app
Don't get the GS2. Call and cancel your service if they ask you why then tell them I want to upgrade but don't want to pay too much for the GS3. They should redirect your call to a "specialist" tell them what's going on and see what they can offer you. That's what I had to do to get the Amaze. I've been with T-Mobile for atleast 8years and its sad that they give the new contracts better deals than loyal customers.
As he said. ^_^

go to wallmart or sams. at sams i know sgs3 is running for $148.88 for tmo and sprint and $99.88 for att. now that is a huge diff b/w the price at sams and corporate stores.
I've have BOTH
Well had both, the S2 is off getting repaired for a defective power button (caused phone to go in a consistent bootloop). Honestly it's all on personal preference, and I'm still trying to choose which one I want to keep. Each phone has it's pros and cons. Amaze has an excellent camera, and much better build quality than the s2, but the S2 has much better Development. However, if you are going to be flashing ROMs with the S2 MAKE SURE you use good kernels. There are kernels out there that will corrupt the eMMC of the device and brick it completely. Other than that, they both are GREAT phones. But I wouldn't take an T-Mobile upgrade on a phone that isn't REALLY an upgrade.

Tbh I think you're right, except the Note II is better than the amaze too. Only because of the expandable memory, otherwise the HTC one s is the same phone but thinner and sexier.
And just because its a top 3 phone for tmo, doesn't make it a good device.... it just proves that tmo had crappy phones. The battery life and hw quirks are unacceptable for the amaze
