I've been running the GHarmony ICS ROMs for a while, and have really been loving the 1.5 release. Super excited to try 1.6, but no matter what I do, it won't boot past the birds. (Trust me, I mean NO MATTER WHAT - I've tried everything anyone suggested anywhere that I could find, I asked anyone that would give me any suggestions. Nothing has worked.)
I'm not sure if it's some abnormality in my hardware or the changes in the ROM - I was hoping maybe to get some advice or at least commiseration here...
Is anyone else using this ROM?
If so, is anyone else having this problem?
if so if so, has anyone figured out a workaround or a fix?
I could switch to a different ROM (most others have worked with no problem) but in my experience, this is the best ICS I've used on this tablet...
I'm in the exact same boat.
I had been using flashback for the past few months and loving it. However over the last few weeks, it had gotten to a point where I felt like playing around with what is out there and decided to move to g-harmony.
After running the nvflash file and installing (which work perfectly) the most i can get is a black screen after the birds that just sits there and does nothing.
I just reinstalled flashback with no problem at all on the gtablet.
Really looking forward to using g-harmony but need help.
Can you get any version of GHarmony to work? What process did you follow to nvflash and do your install?
I was able to get earlier versions (pre-1.6) by following the raywaldo instructions first (the "nvflash for dummies" ones, but they were recommended to move to an ICS ROM), and they went on perfectly, no problems.

I have not. However, point me to 1.5 and i'll give it a shot.
I did just give 120 a shot however and got excited because the birds were flashing more than before, but same results, a black screen going nowhere.
Yeah, I'd like to know if your problem is with all of t hem, or just w/ the latest (like mine).
I can't include an external link here, so check your PM - I'll send it there.

Sorry, looks like mine is a different issue. Just puts me in an endless reboot to the birds stage. I tried nvflashing the 250 mb again. I even tried the 300mb on raywaldo and still, the same result.
And even though i didnt want to go to the drh rom, i gave it a shot to see what would happen there. Same result, just a loop through the birds and then the black screen making it look like something is loading but nothing is happening.
Went back and installed flashback again, no problems at all. Booted up perfectly the first time.
So GHarmony 1.5 just gives you the endless reboot to the birds? If so, that's what I get. The birds, then a quick flash, then back to the birds.
The 300MB version didn't help me either. Neither did any of the diagnostic techniques anyone suggested anywhere.
I did get stuck in a loop last night where I went from the birds to a black screen, after I nvflashed something. I was able to get out of it after nvflashing something different. It looked just like APX mode, except it didn't respond to commands.

So i had gotten excited. After getting flashback running, i decided to download all of the g-harmony files again and give it another go. Figured something happened with the download of the files.
Run nvflash again, wipe cache, reboot into tnt, worked great.
Fresh download of 1.6, installed no problems at all.
Power off.
Birds show up for about 2-3 seconds and then just a black screen. Not apx mode since you can tell the screen is still on, but just blackness on the screen.
So similar, but not quite the same as what I'm getting. I don't know what the problem is, It's weirdest that there's no hint of a problem anywhere. All the installs go fine, the tablet will boot before I install the ROM or after I restore it back, and I even checked all my partitions and made sure they're the same size, with no bad blocks (that I could find) or anything else that might gum things up.
I haven't seen anything else in the topic about the ROM itself that suggests others are having issues, so I don't really know what a next step should be.

So,
I downloaded Bionix 1.8 and Flashed through Clockwork. Only after I disable Voodoo of course. After getting all my settings back the way I like it, played a few games, checked a couple emails I placed my phone on the charger. After the phone was completely charged an hour later.
I decided to boot into clockwork and delete my battery usage stats and rebooted. After it rebooted I unplugged the charger and BOOTLOOP.
It shows the vibrant screen and then Snow like a tv. Except there is other colors in the snow. Not many though. Then the vibrant screen and the snow. Your getting the picture, over and over like this even after pull the plug....plugging the charger. I've even tryed going into download mode. I think. It just keeps booting...
So,
Do I have a paper weight?
Will this thing work anymore?
I dont understand what could of happened, IVe done this plenty of times.
Does anyone know what I should try?
Hopefully this is the right thread and someone can help.
Thanks,
Dave
Did I post in the wrong sections, or does anyone have any ideas as to why this would occur? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave
If you're unable to see if you're in download mode, install adb (inside the Android sdk) then follow the guides on how to reboot into download mode. From there install a stock ROM from Odin (maybe JI6 if you want to). Once it's working, feel free to reflash with Bionix 1.8 or any other ROM flavor of your choosing.
Directions on how to use adb and Odin are in the Vibrant Directory "Bible" on the dev sub-forum.
edit: linkage
edit2: You can also use Droid Explorer to access adb

Hi.. I know you posted a couple months ago but I'm in the same boat and was wondering if you were able to get out of this. Any help would be much appreciated!! =(
Thanks,

I recently went ahead and unrooted my eris so I could call and get a new one sent to me since I'm still under warrantee, and on the other phone I never seemed to have a problem with rooting it and installing the roms. But now for some infuriating reason, every rom I've tried has given me issues within the starting point of loading them. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=677097 <- That one loaded perfectly fine, but then my internet would just refuse to work.
I also tried one called Pure Eris I think it was called, but that one would just stay stuck on the loading screen, go black, then go back to the loading screen, not sure how I had the patience to sit through that for an hour assuming it was perhaps just going to take a while. I used this thread as a help to see if I was perhaps doing something wrong http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835758 I did everything it said to do, and then went ahead and found another rom I thought I'd enjoy, but then all of a sudden I'm required to re-activate my phone. When I call to activate, the keypad refuses to show, and I need to press 1 to activate. Hah. It's just been a hair-ripping experience today.
Now I'm attempting to install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769624 and HOPING I won't have yet again anymore issues.
Anyone have an idea of what I may be doing wrong even after following those instructions? I'm still new to this so to say, since I've only rooted the eris once before this, and I didn't have a problem until now. Rooted it just the same, and each theme seems to make a new problem arise. Haaaaaalp?

The last link you put up is a theme, not a Rom. Which ROM are you currently using?
Be sure when changing roms to wipe data and cache. Not doing so will cause a boot loop, which you described above. Also, if you have to reactivate your phone and can't get a dial pad, long press the menu button to bring up the keyboard and use the keyboard numbers.

I don't know what all roms you have tried that won't boot but there was one person who's phones could not boot my cfsv6 through cfsv8 kernels. I fixed the issue in cfsv9 kernel so check to see if the roms you have tried are using those kernels. I know the one you said booted was an older rom and was not using my kernel. CELBFroyo is using the v9 kernel if you want to test that. If that is your issue you can just download the cfsv9 kernel and flash it after flashing the rom of your choice. It was something to do with the hardware in a small percentage of eris's that the kernel would not work with. Maybe you have the same hardware as that case...
Ok, I've tried everything I've read here so far, but I think my issue is slightly different than everything else I've read. So, here goes:
I had 1.2 BoS alpha 6 on my gTablet, everything was working great. Yesterday, I installed NetFlix on the tablet, and everything was fine. A little while later I was reading a PDF file (Gears of War - Aspho Fields... good book ). I got up to go to the bathroom and when I did the tablet ended up rotating into portrait mode for a sec. It hasn't worked since.
When it went into portait mode, everything but the back/home/clock area went black, and I couldn't go back to the home screen or anything. So I turned it off. Reboot, stuck at the Viewsonic birds screen. Greaaaaat.
Today, I decided that I might as well NVFlash since it's not doing much more than operating as a doorstop at this point. So I downloaded everything and did the NVFlash, and it worked fine. Everything installed, tablet rebooted, started up with the T'n'T loading screen... and sat there, looping for about 15 minutes. I tapped the power button... and now it only boots to APX mode. Double greaaaaat.
So I figured that I'd NVFlash again and maybe that would work. There's just one problem. Now the computer sees the tablet as "Unknown Device". It won't NVFlash anymore, says there's no USB device connected. But the computer sees a device and recognizes when I plug it in, so I know the tablet is actually turned on and in APX mode.
My guess is, I'll have to wait for the battery to drain and try again once it's completely dead...? I don't feel like cracking the case if I don't have to. And if there's too much work involved with trying to revive this thing, I'm gonna go pick up a Transformer. (I just bought one for my wife, she brought it home a couple hours before my tablet died. I'm jealous, and pissed. lol.)
I guess my biggest question is, why would the tablet suddenly stop being recognized by my laptop (which is Win7,btw)? It worked fine about 20 minutes before the second NVFlash attempt.
I have got a similar issue. I can either go to CWM or APX or watch it loop on the TnT loading screen. If anyone knows how to fix this I would greatly appreciate it.
I think my problem got started because I tried to nvflash with an sd card inside though.
Sorry for taking up space and your thread. If you are unable to go to CWM I have no idea what to do but if you can then you can data wipe/factory reset and it should boot up.

I haven't been able to get the tablet to reboot since it went into APX mode, it won't shut off again and I can't reflash it to kickstart the reboot. (I'm also not real sure the flash I used had CWM on it.) I'm draining the battery now... and probably picking up a Transformer on my way home from work tomorrow... I was going to use this for school, I ebook'd all my textbooks this semester. So I'll probably pick up that and then try to get this back up and running again and eBay it.
Oh... I guess I should mention that I had an SD card in mine, too... I didn't see anywhere in the instructions that I should have removed it. But even so, I'm still stuck and can't reflash to try it without the SD in it.
Good news... after draining the tablet's battery, I was able to boot into recovery mode and install the BoS alpha 6 update.zip I had saved on the tablet, which got me booting again. Now I'm reflashing to Flashback Beta 7.1
here are some observations:
Every so often the hardware keys stop working. (soft keys seem fine) Quick fix is put unit into standby then unlock and keys work again.
Lookout Mobile: while doing a backup the system shuts down for some reason.
I just upgraded my wife's g-tab yesterday to G-Harmony. She hasn't had any of the issues that you mentioned.
From what I can tell from the main thread, you need to completely wipe the gtab before flashing the rom. Here's (Basically) what I did.
Formatted each and every mount point
Cleared each and every cache
Connected to my computer via USB
Flashed the Rom in.
Booted and let it sit about 20 minutes before I did anything.
Downloaded a Term emulator and ran V6.
Everything pretty much seems to be ok. Every once and a while she experiences an issue with an app or two after it sits running for a long period of time but a reboot seems to fix it.
Hope this helps.
Other issue observations...
After loading G-Harmony on my wife's tablet this weekend, I've noticed a few things (complaints from her).
* After running for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours, system will get very slow and eventually just locks.
* Browser simply goes to a white screen
* Audio stops running (I found a thread that said to turn off GPS and reboot. I've tried that, but I don't know if it has made a difference yet.).
That's all for now. Is anyone else seeing anything like this?
There is a new ics rom by jamcar. Try it out. I did and it runs very good.
Thanks.
I'll take a look at it. Not sure if my wife will give up her tablet or high scores (again) but I'll see how she reacts. ;o)
I have been having issues where my phone have been freezing up at seemingly random times and then getting into a bootloop until i do a hard power off and turn it back on. I've attempted a clean reinstall of the ROM but no luck.
I was going to flash RUU but my USB port doesn't work for data anymore so fastboot is out. (I tried to use fastboot on 2 computers running Win 7/ 8.1 with a couple different USB cables)
Can anyone recommend any sort of troubleshooting solutions to get this ROM (or possibly a different 4.4 AOSP ROM) to run a bit more stable?

Hi, sorry, I don't have an answer necessarily, but I was having the same issue with OmniRom before I moved over to the new partition layout. One thing you might try, though, is going back to stock (or at least some Sense based Rom) and see if you can get ADB/Fastboot working on it then. I noticed that I wasn't able to get it working on AOSP Rom (I think it was PAC-Rom specifically) but when I restored back to my Initial Stock nandroid, I was able to do it (Run the RUU for new partitions). So give that a try before giving up.
But I also had the random freeze, and boot which could only be stopped by the simulated battery pull like you described, and then it would work. A couple times, I would just be using it and it would freeze. A couple other times I would pull it out of my pocked and it was sitting there with the little android dude sitting there in the circle, staring at me. One time I just left it there for a while, and noticed that it actually was booting (kind of) but super slowly. It would sit there for like a minute, and then the antennae would twitch a little, wait 3 seconds, twitch again, wait 3 seconds twitch again. It was like it was running on extreme slow motion on the boot animation. I don't know if it ever would have finished, given enough time, because I never gave it enough time.
Anyway, if anybody has ideas on why AOSP roms seem to do that, I'd appreciate it. Had a similar experience with PAC-Rom, on the old partitions, with random freezes that couldn't be recovered from.

Nah, installing a Sense ROM didn't work out for recognizing data over USB. I'm hesitant to flash RUU over wifi ADB (if thats even possible) because I wouldn't be able to use fastboot if something goes wrong.

That's good you didn't try it over wireless, because as part of the RUU process, it reboots to fastboot, and if all you had was a wireless connection at that point, the process would fail.

Hmmm.... I may be out of luck then. I'll just deal with the issues until a new Nexus phone is released (if one ever is).
Thanks for the suggestions though.
