Just figured i would post this up. My wife took her phone from her purse that was on the love seat and it went straight to the tile floor. She didnt even want to pick it up so I did. Photo taken with me OG eVo as that is what i still use and love. I also dropped my OG on the same tile floor a half a dozen times and was never worried about picking it up. I bought 2 years of BB Black Tie so not that big of a deal.

I wonder what his sofa was doing in the kitchen.
:silly:
That is a painful pic to look at though...hopefully it can be repaired quickly. I've got an Otterbox Commuter case on mine so I'm hoping it would prevent that damage on an identical fall.

Sofa is spitting distance from her home, i mean the kitchen.
Order otter box commuter on ebay 21.95 shipped about 3 hours ago.
When me and my wife first got Nextel my wife washed her phone in the washing machine within the first week then when she received a replacement she dropped it in the toilet. That's why I say STAY IN THE KITCHEN! haha.

I had and still have a droid x I have no case I work in a auto shop I dropped my phone out of my pocket at least 50 times. one time I jumped off a hoist in the that was up in the air my phone fell out of my pocket. I tried to catch the phone instead swatted it across the shop. i knew I had nothing to worry about picked up phone no damage to the glass.
I won't buy a phone with out gorilla glass.
I've been good so far, and have the case mate barely there case on here. It doesn't cover much, but is about a millimeter raised around the screen, hopefully that will save it from a fall.
I dropped my epic all the time, sans case, and was fine. Until that one fateful day it fell about 5 feet onto tile, landing on the top corner. Shattered screen. Oh well. It has a good run, and I got the evolte.
That pic does hurt to look at.

She went to Best Buy and got a replacement until BB get more LTE's in stock. The gave her an iPhone... I dont under stand that. They also gave her **** about the phone being rooted. Which its not. I just put ADW on it with a theme. BB is so out of touch.
Dropped mine yesterday on the hardwood floor. Landed directly on the face. Before I picked it up, I was like, "****, I know it shattered." And sure enough, it did. So I got my Asurion claim started, and it'll be here Tuesday. By the way, those of you with TEP, it only cost me $100 for some reason. We'll see if I get a brand new one.
I also bought a non gorilla glass and now regret it
Edit:no regrets... totally cool...

It is 29.95 but I wish it covered more of the camera. Plus its a hard shell case. Wish it was like the otterbox commuter with a soft silicone/tpu core and a hard poly shell. for that price it should be better.

Love that! This is "kind of" like the snap on case that I have had on my Evo 4G since day one. Can't see the front of it but I call the snap on case a "Bikini" case because it covers "just enough" to keep the phone safe and secure. My Evo looks as good as it did on day one (with the exception of the crack in the bezel near the unsupported power button) and it's not bulky at all.
Thanks for sharing the pic! I'll definitely have one of these on day one.
*I hope the hinge construction holds up..... I think the only thing I will miss is the kickstand but owell.
Off topic but I got an email from Sprint this morning and they changed the front facing camera to a diamond shape. Looks kind cool I guess. Just saying (;

That's a big a$$kick stand! I just hope none of these "HTC" letters fall off so easily like on the EVOs. I've lost track of how many times I've had to go back to Sprint and ask them to give me a new battery cover since my letters fell off.

Does anyone know if this is being released on 24th as well? I looked for it in google but couldn't find anything
Never had to replace any letters because my Evo lived in a Case Mate barely there, LOVE THAT CASE. This HTC case looks to be built just like it only with the kickstand so this will be perfect.
AS for if they are going to be available, I was told at the Shack that they would have cases the following week, I'm checking with a family member to see if Sprint stores will actually have them or not on Friday. I hope so....
The best feature about the og evo kickstand is the 'snappyness'. I can snap the thing open and closed in a nervous fidget like clicking a pen...totally annoying all around.
But does the kickstand in this case have a snap spring closing? It looks like it will be more flimsy with a small latch to hold it or something.

Lol i do the same.thing when I'm.using my phone..it drives my wife crazy ..click click ..but it is pretty sturdy and i definitely use it a lot..its a must have for a phone this size..def not a gimmick like some said in the past
It makes perfect sense to have the charging port up when on the kickstand. But some apps will not work this way I think. It'll be upside down. Take netflix app for example. It only plays the other way around. Tried it with my evo 4g.
What is HTC gonna do about this I wonder?
This might be the first fatality of an Evo LTE. It happened early this morning. I was loading my work truck with pipe for a project and I climbed up to tie down the pipes on the rack. I bent down to reach the ratchet tie and my phone slipped out of my shirt pocket landing face down onto some gravel. The back cover popped off. I climbed down and picked it up, and as I turned it around I saw the damage. Surprisingly I didn't freak out as one would expect. I called the insurance company and after paying the $100 deductible, a new phone will arrive in about 2 weeks. I had just bought the phone on Saturday so I hadn't really enjoyed it much yet.
Being that these phones are still new and some even on back order, I hope I'll be receiving a NEW phone and not a refurbished one. Lesson learned... never putting my phone in my shirt pocket again.

I was walking in to work today and I bumped my leg and my phone slipped out of my hand and landed smack down on the screen on concrete tile. I had the blue silicon gel case from sprint on it and from what it looks like it survived. However if I apply any pressure on the bottom of the phone below the home button on the plastic that touches the metal it makes a cracking sound like the plastic is rubbing together, and that could just be that small back plastic piece where the speaker is, does anyone else's phone make that sound?

My co-worker decided his was dirty, and that he would wash it with his clothes.
This kills the EVO.
Lucky for him,we used another upgrade (corp account) so he just has to pay another 200 instead of the full 550 for his replacement. lol
Gotta say, thing is built sturdy. First dropped on the bottom, made a minor scruff you can barely notice. And then I dropped it on a weight, it hit the back of the phone thankfully and made a dent in the metal. If it was glass, gone. Still works, nothing is acting up, got a case to help further prevent these accidents. But I'm happy so far, HTC seems to make good build phones. I remember dropping my original evo 4g while biking and it only scruffed the edges up, and not even that bad.

Bought my EVO LTE at best buy, I'll never make that mistake again, those people are idiots, anyway it only took a 3 foot drop to completely demolish the screen, because of my low post count I can't post the pic but you can follow the link just add the h t t p stuff in front of it --oi45.tinypic.com/292ognd.jpg
Asurion sent me a replacement, the broken one still worked so I didn't mind the 5 day wait, when the replacement got here I noticed something was wrong with it right away, got hot, reboots, settings changing at random etc etc... worst thing about it was connecting to my router through wifi would bring both the router and cable modem down, I never did figure that one out.
Called Asurion yesterday, told them the story, they tell me the lte is on backorder and they will send one out to me as soon as they get a shipment in, I thought wow this is turning out to be a major fiasco, came home from work today and the new phone was sitting in front of my door, that was FAST!
So far this 3rd LTE seems to be working good even though I've only had it a few hours, no problems yet, keeping my fingers crossed because I love these phones!
At least put a TPU case on that thing, just my two cents.
That dent would drive me crazy even if I put a case on it. Luckily I have full body shield and an otterbox commuter on mine
Sent from my HTC Evo LTE
I've got the Seidio Active Case. Best case ever. I had one on my EVO OG as well. This one is a way better fit.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I would HATE that dent. But I guess its good that you can live with it.
That being said, I can't stand cases anymore. I have an Otterbox on my og EVO and it drove me crazy after a couple weeks. Cases are too big and don;t slide in and out of my pocket easily. Also, it takes away from the aesthetics of the phone!
Good OP for not freaking out or going crazy. Too often around these parts you have people freaking the hell out about a tiny little scratch.
Yeah honestly it's not that bad. At first I didn't notice until I actually looked for it. It's hard to even take a picture in the camera, have to get the right angle. And I have my new case which covers it up anyway, hopefully it will keep it a bit safer. If something broke, then I'd be mad. But all is well so far!
Case seperation - Sprint won't fix
Ok so at least I'm not the only re-tard that drops his brand new $200 toy. I have had a run of bad luck lately with my Sprint phones. I broke my Evo 4g last winter when I fell with the phone in my pocket and cracked the screen. $100 later replacement from insurance and I'm out playing disc golf when I try to retrieve a disc from the lake...with my phone in my pocket.
Upgraded to the LTE ver, but there is something with the slick plastic and back on this phone, seems to slip out of pockets too easliy. Less than a week, and I dropped it out of my pocket onto a corner. To my suprise the screen did not crack, just a little divit in the plastic.
Two days later, BAM out of my pocket again, this time face down on a parking lot. Again screen intact, none the worse for wear. Then I put the phone in the pocket of a folding chair (wasn't going to let it fall out of my pocket again), but forgot until I went to fold up the chair and lift it up, BAM out of the chair onto the ground.
This time, not so lucky an got a little separation at the bottom between the two halves of the phone. I pay for insurance or "total equipment protection" so I took the phone into sprint only to hear that they can't work on the Evo LTE yet. I thought it was because I dropped it, but they said HTC would not yet Authorize Sprint Repair to work on the phone. Furious, I spoke to a manager who said the same thing. Out of luck unless I want to ship to HTC for repair. Phone still works, so for now I just got a gel case and I can't realy even see the damage now. Holding my breath that the phone keeps working.
but...im not a "re-tard"
but damn, that sucks. case is a must, at least if you want to make it look "pretty" after a some months.
I didn't drop my phone for the first time until after it was wrapped in the security of an OtterBox. I rarely walked around with it in my hand. I tried my best to keep it secure in a pocket of some sort. I figure it's a lot easier (and cheaper) to replace a case than it is to replace a phone.
I don't understand how people are cracking their screens so easily. I threw my 4G at a wall and the screen remained intact. It no longer worked, but it wasn't cracked. I dropped it numerous times onto various surfaces and the screen was not so much as scratched.
How many times have you dropped your note?
I was terrified of dropping it at the beggining and I was so careful. I figured I would break easily because its so big.
I've dropped it many times. One time I dropped it from about 4-5 feet in the air onto a marble tiled floor, it fell with a deafening bang on its corner and bounced about 2 feet and dropped back down. It didn't even turn off. Just the card got ejected. So screw all you people who think plastic phones suck! They're so lightweight and so durable. Love those iPhone people walking around with cracked glass!!

Yeah, and it shatters as soon as it hits the ground!
I've dropped mine twice. Once on concrete and the other I can't remember. Both chipped or dented the bezel but didn't damage the glass.

Ironically, I have dropped my note twice only after I got my otterbox defender case. Of course there was zero damage. I think I heard my otterbox case laugh and say, 'you call that a drop?'
Ive dropped mine once, but it was very low drop. it was fine, but reading other stories gives me chills.
I dropped it from about 4 ft, landed staright on its face and tons of cracks in the glass.
I put a screen protector over it, the pen works perfectly still since the screen isnt cracked and someone even told me they could barely tell because the colors are so vidvid.
I have insurance, but they want too much money and paperwork with the Note 2 right around the corner. I figure ill wait and try and find someone selling one for cheap/broken ports etc then give away 200$ AND my hardware that is still worth a bit of money.
the not cracked part has more area than a 3.5 in screen anyway
Dropped it agaim today. No case. Back popped off and battery fell out but no damage at all. Amazing.

I've dropped mine significantly only twice. Both times scuffed the silver housing, but the screen is still perfect. I could care less that samsung uses plastic, it holds up super well in drops. My wife knocked mine out of my hand a few days ago (accidentally). It fell about 4 feet, and I went diving in for it... and missed. It skipped across the concrete a few times, and luckily only ended up with some scuff on the two side corners. I received more damage than the phone. It is truly quite durable. Apparently I need a skin protector for myself, more than a screen protector or case for my phone.

I guess I'll comment on what I've read so far.
I love the look and feel (and weight) of naked devices. Its a big device but its manageable without a case. So, though I've seen some nice cases, I'll keep it naked. Another thing, best buys insurance is much better, no deductible. It just doesn't cover theft.

I wanted to root but just dare not do it as htc have repaired it twice in 2 weeks now. Its perfect in every other way no scratches as it never comes out of it protective casing yet it still breaks so easy and for seemingly no reason .First time wouldnt turn on after battery running out and needed new motherboard and battery then two weeks after repair lost signal then after reboot got boot loop. Ive never had a phone break so easy and i have never treat a phone so carefully ahhhh.
Is everyone elses phone this fragile also got it back yesterday hoping it lasts more than two weeks.
Mine isn't like that. It took a 4 to 5 ft fall yesterday still rocking solid!

Ahh why is mine then so annoying actually love the phone when its ok but sick of treating it like its an egg ready to break and want to root but dont want to effect my warranty as it seems needed at the moment lol
Probably your luck. I threw mine off an 8 feet fall into hard concretrete. Nothing. Just the battery popped out. It was fine. Popped the battery in and it booted and was greeted by the HTC screen. No scratches.

I was running for a taxi while being very very drunk, fell flat on my face (LOL) and my phone went flying. Still works perfectly

I've dropped my 3d a countless amount of times (even on hard concrete) without any sort of case. i find mine very durable! no screen cracks, minimal screen scratches.
the bezel however is scratched up considerably, and recently its kind of come off a little on the left side. but all buttons work perfectly still, everything still feels solid
since this turned into a "how indestructible my evo 3d is thread" I'll share my story:
slipped out of my hands down a flight of stairs. Smalll scuff on bezel, no damage.
mine sure isnt fragile, my launch day 3d is still going strong after multiple falls and drops.
I also have dropped my phone, not often but a few times. I have a Casemate POP case that does a real good job protecting the phone.
The only thing i am upset about is that the bezel has kind of pulled away from the case on the left side (someone else mentioned this too). I think this is a weak point of the phones design, as i always have my case on and there is no damage on that side...
My friend's 3D fell from his car doing 45 and aside from some serious scratches the thing is fine.

Mine's taken a fall or two while running and still works.
Otterbox FTW
I kept mine in mint condition, literally brand new condition. Then it froze up and I had to take it out of the case to remove the battery. I layed it on my bed while it was plugged in and thought "i probably need to put it back in the case", but decided I'd do it later, after all, what could happen to it while its laying on my bed charging? So I walked away and tripped over the charging cord which ripped it off the bed and onto my stained concrete floor. Scratched the hell out of the bezel but that's all. I hate that metal bezel.
Trident case FTW
Lemon phone?

the phone slipped from my hands while crossing the street and it got hit by a car, small scratch on upper left and lower right on bazel, and after a day or so I noticed it going off from the right side, a drop of super glue fixed every thing, still works perfecly
Best buy insurance ftw. No cover of any kind. Why? Unlimited free replacements. Doesnt cover lost/stolen tho.
