question if i update my hboot to 1.58 i can still flashing 2.3.4 roms
No. But if you are s-off, you can flash the hboot back to 1.4 or 1.5 if needed.

Engineering hboot 1.04 is just an hboot that will accept more fastboot commands than the others will accept. It does not have a locked/unlocked banner and it was probably the first hboot for this device. If you want to give it a spin, here it is. Just rename this file to PG86IMG.zip and flash through the bootloader.

For cdma
As for the best one for sense ROMs, that depends. If you want to run GB and VM leak ICS ones, then hboot 1.4 or 1.5 our the eng hboot is fine. If you want to run an ICS ROM based on the new ota with the new kernel, you need hboot 1.58.

I was on freezas thread in the cdma dev section. I just did the wire trick to get S-OFF today and I would be super pissed if i messed it up. But if I upgrade to 1.58, would I still be S-OFF?
Yes. You keep s off. You can downgrade the hboot later if you wish
I'm faily new to the world of customizing my android, I have a rooted evo3d, S-on Hboot1.5. I'm curious about the two methods of getting S-off, one being the hboot 1.4 downgrade, and then the hboot 1.5 method. Mainly are big enough pros to having 1.5 (or 1.58 now) over 1.4?
No real difference afaik between 1.4 and 1.5. The important thing is s-off. I would avoid 1.58 unless you want to run the latest HTC kernel.

hello everyone,
so, before i had hboot 1.58 locked i was actually on hboot 1.5 unlocked and obtained s-off via the "wire trick". i recently flashed the latest version of meanrom and flashed a zip with the rom that updated my hboot to the latest version. even though upgrading to hboot 1.58 kept me s-off the bootloader now says "locked". my question is do i need to be unlocked again to flash successfully?

No. S-Off is the only unlock you need. You're good to go. Just keep in mind the older ROMs not based on the Sprint ICS OTA do not play well with HBoot 1.58. Since you're S-Off you can downgrade and re-upgrade your HBoot whenever you want to flash whatever you want.

Hi huys, i need to turn back to gingerbread, and then get ota ics, now i have last firmware and hboot. How i can do it? The ruu gb don't work cause hboot version. Thanks.
Are you s-on or s-off? If s-off, flash a lower hboot then try the ruu. If you are s-on, get s-off.

If i have bootloader unlocked i can't use pgm86img.zip
If you are s-off you can, s-on you can't. Which is why I recommended s-off (actually it might be required to downgrade your hboot).

I wanted to relock my phone in order to upgrade the stock firmware. Is there a way to relock it while keeping it S-Off?
All you have to do is flash one of the zips from here to upgrade your firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673377
