SGS2 GT-i9100 stuck on boot screen after root Attemp with ODIN - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried to root my phone using the guide from here using the kernel XWLPD found here. I downloaded the insecure kernel and using ODIN V.3.04, I tried to flash it following those exact steps and upon reboot of my phone, it just shows the yellow triangle. I am still able to get into the download mode by pressing home, volume down and power and I've tried to flash the original kernel from the list but still no luck.
I tried searching different threads on this and other forums for help but can't find much info or help with the XWLPD kernel. There are helps for other kernels but this one doesn't seem to work. I don't usually like to post new threads but I can't find help anywhere else so if anyone has any idea, I really need it.

Wrong section. Flash an entire new rom, you probably used a corrupt or incompatible kernel image.

Sorry for Posting this in the wrong section, if any moderators want to move it then please.
As for a new rom, any links to which I should use, are roms different from kernels and do I do it the same way as I update the kernel with Odin?

A kernel is simply that. The kernel is a core part of the Android operating system. The ROM is the entire spin of the OS. Look for stock firmwares in General, they are usually Odin packages. If you're unsure how to use the package, ask for help in the thread. They usually don't mind spoonfeeding because odin can be pretty confusing to the newcomers.

i also had the same problem. had to flash a cf root kernel by odin and it worked again!!! try it i am sure that will work

Or flash siyah should work on all stock ics roms

Try to put it in recovery mode.
Do full wipe ( data-factory reset; cache; dalvilk cache )
and reboot.

[Q] Installing a custom rom without flashing the kernel?

Hello, have been lurking on this forum for a while but never actually made any posts until now.
Let me start off my saying that I am a beginner when it comes to installing custom ROMs, I have only done it a few times before. I flashed my kernel, installed CWM and a custom ROM. After a while I got tired of the rom and decided to go back to Gingerbread 2.3.5. I hated the yellow triangle that shows up when using a custom kernel, so I went ahead and changed that back to stock as well, and that removed CWM as well.
But I've just discovered a ROM called "Batista70 Foxhound Edition 3.0" (which you can find in the i9100 general android dev section) and I love the look and feel it has, and would like to install it on my phone.
My question is pretty basic and simple:
Can I install this ROM without actually flashing the kernel (to avoid the f*ing annoying yellow triangle)? Or perhaps there is a way of flashing a kernel without getting the triangle? Though I'm not getting my hopes up for that question.
I also have a related question:
Can I install CWM without flashing the kernel?
Anything I forgot to add, let me know.
Regards,
Dimergon

If you by a jig off eBay for a few bucks all your problems will go away. It gets rid of the triangle and resets the flash counter. Well worth the $3.
CWM is within the kernel so to use it a custom kernel is required. CWM is worth having for backups and simple flashing.
My suggestion. Install one of chainfires cfrooted stock kernels. Use the jig to get rid of triangle. Then backup via CWM incase you want to go back at some stage.
Then flash foxhound.
Hope this helps.

What you could try is rooting it with zergush exploit. Then download mobile odin from the market, flash cf-root true mobile odin and then you have the recovery needed to flash. And no yellow triangle.
Don't know if it's possible, because I never tried it. But we are on a developers forum after all.
You could of course just flash the CF-root and then remove the yellow triangle with instructions from the CF-root thread. Or buy a jig.
Buy a USB-Jig from Ebay its a good investment and helps you on the triangle.. then download the old Bootloader and save it to your pc and then you are safe
All you need to remove the triangle is a zImage from a secure kernel it's all on the cf thread.

Thanks for the replies. I will definitely have a look at the USB jig, seems like the way to go.
And, to the reply above, is it possible flashing a secure kernel after installing a custom ROM? Seems to me this will not be without complications.

Clockwork ext sd problem

Hey guys I'm trying to make a backup through CWM however it fails to find data from my ext-sd card...said it did not find it.
But my sd-card is read easily when using my phone after boot.
Any idea what could be the problem please?
<<<bump>>>
Edit: sorry, guilty of not reading properly, partial post deleted and irrelevant.
Some kernels only mount internal (and recognise) that in CWM recovery. What kernel & cwm version?

What I do recall however that when I installed ROM manager a few days ago and wanted to make a backup, it told me to install CWM through it first. So I did however it asked me to chose between the Epic 4g and the GT-i9000 (not i9100)...I selected that one since I though it was closest related...
Anyway I did try to restore from a different backup. But not sure if a nandroid backup affects the CWM version.
Thanks for your time
Yes CWM is also backed up.
If you just want to restore from Nandroid backup you can simply flash a cfroot kernel via Odin then restore via CWM.

Yes, as above. Reflash any kernel with root and CWM, such as Siyah kernel 2.6.9 or Chainfire CF-root kernel. Use Odin to flash tar file using PDA.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/01/23/siyahkernel-v2-6-9/
This will instal the correct CWM recovery. ROM manager is not compatible with SGS2, as recovery and kernel positions are the same.
Edit : These methods (there are others) will give you a warning triangle (doesn't hurt anything, just evidence for voiding warranty) and increase your binary counter down in download mode. Easy method to reset is to get a USB jig and reset, if this doesn't work you'll need to flash a old bootloader first from Intratech thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
First rule is if you are not sure of what you are doing, don't do it, read, read, read, and read some more. 9000 files are not close enough to 9100 ! Follow the instructions exactly. And search before posting.

Bah I tried to flash CF-ROOT (KP8) but it had no effect whatsoever - didn't even install the kernel itself. Even though Odin marked a Pass
(yeah I know about the yellow triangle I've gotten used to it XD)
Ok what device do you have. Since this is the I9100 forum we hope that is what you have.
If there is a letter like G after your model number it's important because not all sgs2 are the same.

Just tried to flash a kernel (KI4) from intratech so that I could then retry flashing CF's kernel. Sadly I've soft bricked my phone now im recovering it at the moment...so much hassle

Galaxy S2 rooting, bypassed steps and working????

Hello, im new to this form but i love it. I recently sold my iphone 4 and got a galaxy s2 from australia. I wanna root it and install.custom roms. As i researched on the web, i tried to fine insecure kernal and etc but i couldnt find it. it was something like I9010tdujk. So i was being stupid and put my phone on download mode and used odlin to install litening rom directlty and it works flawless?????? is my phone gonna brick if i keep using it??? Hellp plz
No, it won't brick.
Most custom ROM have custom CWM recovery and kernel included allowing nandroid backups and flashing directly from sdcard (internal or external). I am not sure if your ROM has CWM, but you will need to flash a CWM root kernel such as Chainfire or siyahkernel .tar file with Odin
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/01/26/siyahkernel-v2-6-11/
Search the thread to backup EFS folder before going anything else. If this gets corrupted, you will not be able to access any network with damned IMEI. Many ways to backup, inc. GS2 repair, and hellcat k-tool in the market. Once baked up, save to PC.
Your csc may not be correct for your country, but you can just enter the APN manually in mobile settings. Changing csc will factory reset.
You may also have to flash / try different modems to get the best signal and data stability/speed. There are Odin and CWM flashable around.

thank you for the reply but i couldnt understand any of that
The phone was using a stock rom before i rooted it wrong and was locked to vodafone. I simply put the phone on download mode by (vol down, home and power) and used odlin to install the Litening rom which i belive the most download on the xda site. and now after a day of using, it heats up fast and battary life looks to drain fast.
Best to start again and read all the stickies first.

Guide and other firmwares here

Once you've had a read, follow the instructions exactly, and never use pit and never repartition with Odin.

Brick after Rom Manager Reboot?

Hi
I searched and only found similar cases with other phones and no solution.
I was on stock 4.0.3 with CWM, rooted and siyah kernel and tried to upgrade to CM9
with Rom manager
i dled cm9 with gapps and let ROM Manager do the backup, wipe and reboot to recovery
but then i just saw the first GT 9100i boot screen with the triangle and after that
the screen stayed black.
i noticed in a darker area that the screen blinked everey few seconds, so i guess its trying to reboot all the time. some kind of bootloop?
i cant access the cwm, nor boot normaly.
just the download mode is working
so i tried to flash a stock FW from intratechs thread via odin
but... FAIL
help would be much appreciated right know :crying:
thank you
Mmm I've had issues with rom manager before but never this severe. All I can suggest is what I would do which is to fash stock firmware from samfirmware via PDA section in odin. If this doesn't work I think there is a sticky thread which is dedicated to situations like this. It requires flashing a firmware via odin again but all partitions are used so it will wipe your device. All the best.

Can you still get into Download Mode?
EDIT:
Try manually wiping data, cache and dalvik cache.
Try to go into recovery. Hold down volumen up, home key, and power on, at once hold them down ontil you reach recovery.

I managed a repair via odin after a couple of attempts.

Flash a stock kernel then wipe everything the recovery it comes with. Also make your flashing roms for your 9100i model.

I have the very same problem as you.
I can enter download mode but can't enter recovery mode.
I can flash any rom I can find but all of them have no use.
Still can't boot nor recovery.
Have you fixed the problem just by reflashing stock rom?

the only way to revive ur phone, is to flash a stock ICS 4.0.3 firmware thro 'ODIN' and have a clean boot of ur phone
and never use 'Rom Manager' in the future

Help with this blinkin phone!

I've rooted and flashed many times before.
Recently got phone back from repair after SDS and wanted to put Omega 38 on it.
Rooted it fine no problem using Odin... but have read things about CWM recovery possibly still having the problem, so thought (as I'd seen on here) that I needed philz's CWM. Don't know what I've done but now my phone appears "stuck" again.
It gets no further than the black screen with the white Samsung Galaxy Siii logo. Even if I pull the battery still nowt other than that.
I can get the phone recognised in odin, and I can also get into (I think) philz's recovery by volume up+menu+power. I've done a factory wipe and reset but when the phone starts it still stops on the logo page.
Previously, I got stock CWM (that was provided when I rooted with odin and CF-Root-SG3-v6.4) and it mentioned something about not being able to mount sd card and something about android secure. On another thread it mentions something like this with the S2 which required a odin stock tar flash.
Help me sort this problem - already been down with SDS and losing the will to live now! I just want a safe Omega38 and a safe recovery, as it wouldn't look good sending the phone back with SDS again with the same IMEI/Serial number!
did you try to put it Download mode and flash it again with Odin stock firmware 4.1.2... !!
if they change for you interal sd at your first service then you will be okay.
Have you tried a full stock flash with odin? (Not Omega or other custom rom)
I always use a full stock flash with btu csc so I keep my product code. Perka has a flash with LLA and no bootloader.
At the moment I use LLA and an older JB bootloader.
So to recap, flash a full stock firmware. If it does not boot you will then have to reflash Philz recovery again. Use volume up home and power to reboot the phone and goto recovery. Do a factory reset and reboot the phone.
You should then have a fully clean stock flash.
Or you could boot to CWM recovery and format data, system and cache. Then reboot to download mode and flash you stock rom.
If all is ok then flash Omega.
Short of that maybe its gone all Pete Tong and possibly send it back.

Thanks guys
I went away, had a brew and thought about stuff a little.
Managed to flash omega by getting it onto my sdcard. Then did a wipe of everything, and installed omega v38
Seems to be up and running now. I'm assuming that I should remove any links to CWM in my phone menu, and if need download mode in future, just use Volume Up, Menu and Power?
