Help with this blinkin phone! - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've rooted and flashed many times before.
Recently got phone back from repair after SDS and wanted to put Omega 38 on it.
Rooted it fine no problem using Odin... but have read things about CWM recovery possibly still having the problem, so thought (as I'd seen on here) that I needed philz's CWM. Don't know what I've done but now my phone appears "stuck" again.
It gets no further than the black screen with the white Samsung Galaxy Siii logo. Even if I pull the battery still nowt other than that.
I can get the phone recognised in odin, and I can also get into (I think) philz's recovery by volume up+menu+power. I've done a factory wipe and reset but when the phone starts it still stops on the logo page.
Previously, I got stock CWM (that was provided when I rooted with odin and CF-Root-SG3-v6.4) and it mentioned something about not being able to mount sd card and something about android secure. On another thread it mentions something like this with the S2 which required a odin stock tar flash.
Help me sort this problem - already been down with SDS and losing the will to live now! I just want a safe Omega38 and a safe recovery, as it wouldn't look good sending the phone back with SDS again with the same IMEI/Serial number!

did you try to put it Download mode and flash it again with Odin stock firmware 4.1.2... !!
if they change for you interal sd at your first service then you will be okay.

Have you tried a full stock flash with odin? (Not Omega or other custom rom)
I always use a full stock flash with btu csc so I keep my product code. Perka has a flash with LLA and no bootloader.
At the moment I use LLA and an older JB bootloader.
So to recap, flash a full stock firmware. If it does not boot you will then have to reflash Philz recovery again. Use volume up home and power to reboot the phone and goto recovery. Do a factory reset and reboot the phone.
You should then have a fully clean stock flash.
Or you could boot to CWM recovery and format data, system and cache. Then reboot to download mode and flash you stock rom.
If all is ok then flash Omega.
Short of that maybe its gone all Pete Tong and possibly send it back.

Thanks guys
I went away, had a brew and thought about stuff a little.
Managed to flash omega by getting it onto my sdcard. Then did a wipe of everything, and installed omega v38
Seems to be up and running now. I'm assuming that I should remove any links to CWM in my phone menu, and if need download mode in future, just use Volume Up, Menu and Power?

Brick after Rom Manager Reboot?

Hi
I searched and only found similar cases with other phones and no solution.
I was on stock 4.0.3 with CWM, rooted and siyah kernel and tried to upgrade to CM9
with Rom manager
i dled cm9 with gapps and let ROM Manager do the backup, wipe and reboot to recovery
but then i just saw the first GT 9100i boot screen with the triangle and after that
the screen stayed black.
i noticed in a darker area that the screen blinked everey few seconds, so i guess its trying to reboot all the time. some kind of bootloop?
i cant access the cwm, nor boot normaly.
just the download mode is working
so i tried to flash a stock FW from intratechs thread via odin
but... FAIL
help would be much appreciated right know :crying:
thank you
Mmm I've had issues with rom manager before but never this severe. All I can suggest is what I would do which is to fash stock firmware from samfirmware via PDA section in odin. If this doesn't work I think there is a sticky thread which is dedicated to situations like this. It requires flashing a firmware via odin again but all partitions are used so it will wipe your device. All the best.

Can you still get into Download Mode?
EDIT:
Try manually wiping data, cache and dalvik cache.
Try to go into recovery. Hold down volumen up, home key, and power on, at once hold them down ontil you reach recovery.

I managed a repair via odin after a couple of attempts.

Flash a stock kernel then wipe everything the recovery it comes with. Also make your flashing roms for your 9100i model.

I have the very same problem as you.
I can enter download mode but can't enter recovery mode.
I can flash any rom I can find but all of them have no use.
Still can't boot nor recovery.
Have you fixed the problem just by reflashing stock rom?

the only way to revive ur phone, is to flash a stock ICS 4.0.3 firmware thro 'ODIN' and have a clean boot of ur phone
and never use 'Rom Manager' in the future

[Q] Did I just brick my Galaxy S2

Ok, so I was about to install custom ROM to a unrooted SGS2 phone, I didn't have a computer so I decided to root my phone installing cwm.zip through stock recovery and then installing su and busybox via cwm. then I backed everything up, downloaded a custom ROM with a custom kernel and cwm touch recovery with it. I went to stock recovery again and installed cwm.zip to get to cwm recovery and first made a nandroid backup and then installed the custom ROM. It turned off while it was on aroma installer and now it doesn't go on. Is it bricked? is there anything I can do?

I can't get anywhere.. and I assume I can't do anything even if I get it plugged on a computer? if it doesn't go to Odin or stock recovery or no where at all what are my chances? bricked I guess. BTW will anyone at Samsung know that I tried flashing my phone if I take it to be fixed? I mean if it doesn't go on, don't they have to replace everything and they would never even know that i tried to flash it?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
You soft-bricked it maybe...
Did you try booting up your phone pressing the POWER + HOME + VOL UP keys? If it boots into recovery, then just do a nandroid restore...
If you're just concerned with bringing the phone back to life... Boot up your phone pressing POWER + HOME + VOL DOWN keys. It will show you a green n' black menu, then press VOL UP. It will then show an Android robot with "downloading" written below. Now just connect it to your PC (I hope you already installed drivers for S2) and start ODIN. (Make sure KIES is off)
Use a .tar.md5 or .tar(or any other format) file(or files depending on your firmware) and put it in the respective box. Leave the tickboxes as they are and DO NOT use a .pit file AND DON'T TICK repartition.
Click start flash and your phone should boot up on the stock ROM again!
Just trying to help you!

where can I get a USB jig? I don't know if my motherboard is broken, it doesn't turn on at all, screen stays off what ever I press. and even if a put the charger in. in the evening I will have a computer and I can connect it to my PC but I assume that there is nothing I can do anyways because I can't just turn the phone on. I was trying to install a custom ROM with a temporary CWM recovery. didn't have cwm yet installed but I assumed it will be installed at the same time I install the rom because it included it. so if I have hard bricked my phone and I take it to be repaired, will they see I have tried to flash the phone? will it be fixed with guarantee?

Yes I'm sure I was installing a right ROM meant for my phone. The resurrection remix 3.0.9 for I9100. this is what I did exactly.
1. went to stock recovery
2. installed CWM.zip from external SD card.
3. Got into temporary CWM recovery and then made a nandroid backup with success.
4. tried to wipe data but got stuck and rebooted my phone. It was now stuck in the galaxy logo.
5. I went to stock recovery again to install CWM.zip and this time I straight installed the resurrection remix and I got into Aroma installer and everything went fine until on 50% the phone turned off and now doesn't go on.
P.S. I was still on Stock ROM and kernel and recovery when trying to do this. Was using a temporary CWM recovery to install a custom ROM and kernel. I had root access already.
P.S2 I put the charger in and it doesn't even show the battery icon, nothing. and yes the camera is getting hot. Is it a hard brick / dead brick or what ever you call it? if I take it to guarantee, will they fix it or will they be able to see that I damaged my phone myself? thanks
P.S3 can the USB jig work on this problem also?

If it soft bricked i think JTAG will help you
But if not try this:
Try to change battery MAYBE THAT HELP i don't now i gueses(Sorry bad english) i don't know really
Try this:
Step one would be the Jig
Step two would be a paid for JTAG repair
Step three would be a paid for service centre repair
And try to get out battery for about 1 hour

I will do this when I get home from work, thanks a lot for all the advice.

How the going with the phone ?
Was it on a 4.0.4 ROM? Did you check if it has a bad chip? ie. is susceptible to the emmc bug before flashing?
That could possibly be the cause, although I cant be sure now unless you have her stock rom/kernel details. And if it is, I'm sorry but AFAIK theres no solution to that yet.
Do try getting hold of a USB jig and trying your luck with that first, though.
Hope it works out :fingers-crossed:
Did you try to wipe ANYTHING on stock 4.0.4 kernel ? if you did, then you've been afected by the emmc brickbug and there's no other way to fix it other than replacing the entire motherboard.
Did you try to put your device in download mode (pressing the power button, home button and volume down key) ? If you can get into it, flash a stock rom and problem solved.
Can you enter recovery mode ?
Next time you try to get cwm, just flash siyah and you'll get the whole package (permanent cwm + root + plenty of features) and only after that try to wipe and install custom roms
@Poroto
HE SAID HE CAN"T GO ANYWHERE.
So it's can be Hardbrick or like (Ram's or CPU or Video card is broken) MAYBE

[Q] Fully restore a rooted S3

I know the answer is here somewhere but I really need someone to guide me...
I bought a Galaxy S3 yesterday and it´s not my first. It came with WanamLite. I know that WanamLite is a good ROM but the phone was laggy as syrup... Last night I flashed the latest leaked 4.2.2 Samsung firmware but I really feel it´s still laggy... as soon as I do two different things in ot it lags like he**.
Now I wanna try to restore EVERYTHING to it´s factory state... kernel, firmware... EVERYTHING! I want to be able to update this phone the usual way... either KIES or OTA. As of now I just get a message that the firmware has been changed and that the phone is not supported.
So... can someone please give me directions to fully restore the phone to it´s original state?
Thanx guys!
first go to recovery and do a wipe data/factory reset and cache and on advanced wipe dalvik cache then go to mounts and storage and format everything there
then go to download mode and flash a stock Rom
So if I do that the custom recovery, root and Everything else will be as "out of the box"?
Isnt it best to use ODIN to flash Stock ROM?
Usually Stock Rom has stock recovery in it.
So if u flash with a stock rom
Then everything will be back to normal.
It is optional to use Triangle Away.
Use it only if u need to rest ur binary count

yes everything will be deleted and back to stock but your binary counter will not be back to 0 for that you will need triangle away for waranty purposes which is useless since you bought your phone second hand
yes odin is the best choice but you need to go to download mode so odin can idintify your phone you can't flash a Rom on home screen LOL

Think its the easiest and best way to get back to stock..
-) Check out the latest Firmware for your region on sammobile.com,
-) backup your data / SMS etc if you would,
-) reset the counter with triangle away,
-) flash the downloaded Firmware with Odin and last do a factory reset
Yeah. Just check the flash counter in download mode first. Bootloaders since 4.1.1 have been increasing back to 1 after reboot so you need to be on a stock recovery and kernel to reset without going back to 1 .
Or you have to prevent triangle away from rebooting after the reset. Pull the battery and go straight to download mode

Everything Went fine... counter restored, and Stock flashed.
First I was worried that the phone had gotten the "Sudden Death" due to the constant freezing... AND it has the stupid chip that causes the darn thing... but after a reset of the phone it works just fine!

[Q] Possible brick after CWM recovery update.

Here goes, hopefully someone can help!
Ive installed a fair few roms on my phone and never had any issue, maybe this explains the complacency.
After updating to CWM recovery -6.0.4.7 I get stuck on my bootscreen, only seeing "Samsung galaxy I9100P" , ive been putting I9100 roms on it and losing NFC functionality for a while.
I went to update to the newest CM-11 nightly and read I needed to update CWM-recovery first. So did that, rebooted phone as instructed after installing new CWMr and nothing. Just stuck on I9100 screen.
No way to get into recovery mode, the only bright side I have found is I can boot into ODIN download mode. So what would be my next steps anyone?

From a dig through the forums it sounds like NAND rw corruption?
I wouldn't be calling it that just yet. Unless you'd like to pay for a motherboard replacement ? Most of these are recoverable.
Used ODIN and flashed a new kernel, still on the boot screen, except now I have the yellow exclamation mark. Now to, Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again.. this day is not going well..
Fingers crossed, flashed 3 or 4 kernels before one worked and allowed me into recovery mode. Trying to restore back to my backup from this morning. Heres hoping! :good:
Worked perfectly, the first thing I did was retry the initial task which was what got me stuck, currently waiting on CM-11's initial boot up after a successful install Thanks for the calming responses!

[Q] How to Remove Cyanogenmod 11 and go back to stock. [Galaxy Player 5.0 US]

I flashed this with Cyanogenmod 11 soon after I got it 2 months ago. Well times are tough and I have to sell it on eBay. I want to remove Cyanogenmod 11 and revert back to stock. I know the thread where the stock ROM and PIT files are (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192488) so thats half the battle there. Is it the same process as this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531850) or is there something else I need to do. Do I have to install GA APPS like you do with custom ROMs or is that not needed
This is all pretty new to me. I know how to flash custom ROMs and such but flashing the stock ROM seems tricky to me. Sorry if this has all been covered so many times that it makes you tired of seeing this, I just have to be sure I do this right and dont brick it (cant sell a paper weight on eBay for too much money lol).
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for all the hardwork that goes into making these ROMs as well
EDIT: Can I flash the stock ROM with the US Kernal, US PIT file and 2.3.5 gapps like I did with Cyanogenmod 11 or is that impossible?
Again sorry for the newbie question!

I think after flashing a factory firmware by Odin, the device will AUTOMATICALLY boot into stock recovery, where you can wipe data in the correct format. At least that's what it said in the guide I read, and also happens on my Player 4.0 for both Froyo and Gingerbread.

Well since you're getting mount errors, are you sure you flashed the correct PIT file? Mount errors are likely caused by a wrong pit file.
EDIT: I see you have pointed to a thread with correct PIT files. So I think you should flash the PIT file first, boot into download again and then flash the Stock ROM and Kernel. If it boot loops at the boot animation, boot into the stock recovery and wipe data.
