Hello Gurus.
I have this strange issue with connecting my Laptop to the Portable Hotspot on my Galaxy S2.
I have the security as WPA2/PSK. Now when I keep it secured, I am unable to connect any devices.
While when I keep it as OPEN, it connects.
Any one can shed some light on this ?
Thanks

I have the same issue with my phone
i had this problem too
it's some kind of problem with the wifi driver of your laptop try to update ur drivers or unistall/reinstall them and try again
I think that kinda makes sense. A lot of my drivers have been acting funny since I installed Windows 8 haha. Thanks tho, I'll give it a try.

It's not about your windows drivers, it's a common bug in all Jellybean ROMs
My guess would be that it is related to the kernels, like the situation with hwcomposer...
in my Second Rom (PilotxROM AOKP-M6 ICS 4.0.4), is`t working Great.
same kernel, so ....

I'm having problems with a brand new htc amazing. The Wifi connects but only for a while and only at like 1 bar even if I'm right next to my router. My Ipod and other devices can connect just fine. After connecting it'll remain connected for a while then disconnect. Currently I tried it on stock ics 4.0.3, Energy Rom, and Speedy Rom. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I've also searched at the T mobile forums and I've read some about the wifi driver or something causing this.
Any help would be appreciated.

From other post it usually ends up being the router. Cheap router ? Old, Not up to date with firmware? You should go to stock and call it in to HTC. See what they say. They will ask you for the serial number and software number of your device. You may find the serial number in the ‘Settings’ menu under ‘About Phone’. The software information will be under ‘About Phone’ and then ‘Software Information’.
I'd like to know how this turns out since many others have this problem but no solid solution yet I don't see anybody deal with tech support either.

I have finally found out the real root cause of this it seems it was my iPod interfering with the amaze wifi. Tested it several tines every time I turn it on the WiFi on amaze takes a dive and eventually dissconnects. I really feel like throwing my iPod out the window for all the headache and trouble it caused.

When I try to connect to my home network with my ipod connected to my wifi at the same time my Htc amaze will connect to the wifi but it'll drop to one bar and hold the connection for like 30s. This happens with Stock ics from htc, Speedy Rom, Energy rom. However, once I turn off the wifi on my iPod 4th gen my htc amaze is able to properly connect at full bar without dropping wifi connection.
Phone specs
rom ICS Energy Rom Aug 6th
kernal Htc Stock ics
Bootloader unlocked s on
My router is a cheap one send from telus called Siemens Gigaset SE567.
This might just be a case that only happens to me other people may not have this problem.

Sounds like router tho not ipod. Have you looked into updating the firmware for that router? Maybe if you call them they can replace for a better one.

My Samsung Galaxy Note is not being recognized by my Mac. I have the CM10 Nightless ROM on it at the moment. I also have Android File Transfer installed on my Mac.
Why do you have any extra software installed on the mac? Get rid of that it should just pick it up after you mount it. Try different usb ports/cables. My GF's mac picks up my PA CM10 just fine. Try that?
Mac address issue in the CM rom ???
Check the Mac address field in your network settings in the rom to confirm that you have the correct Mac address......g

I believe they are referring to an Apple Mac issue, not a MAC address issue.

if you want to think about it that way sure... or you can think of it this way.
custom built pc to your liking, install win/lin/osx. SAVE TONS OF MONEY
OR
spend 2000$+ extra to have an apple stamp on your tower.
i dont see how buying a pc is downgrading when you can do so much more with it
thats like saying "you bought an android? whyd you downgrade from an iphone...*
well, after having pc's for 20 years, custom building most of them, BTW, and dealing with windows builds that ranged from horrible, to ok, I decided to go MAC in 2006; things were great at first, but the last 2 OSX releases, Lion, and now Mountain Lion have been major disappointments to me, let alone my disgust for the childish lawsuits and other bull that Apple is now focused on, instead of building better products..
I'll probably go back to windows machines, once windows 8 is fully out there..
BTW, my custom made PC's were always more than $2000.00!!
Sorry about hijacking this thread with PC "Stuff"!
2nd post in this thread will help you out

I would really look into using airdroid though I have used that since I first downloaded it , dont connect with cables anymore !!
I was afraid that this might turn into a PC vs Mac thread haha. I'll look into the over the air method when I get home. Thanks for all the suggestions and help

Its a known issue with JB and Mac. If you use TWRP go that route for a USB connection. Its really easy and a lot quicker than over the air.

Did u change anything (phone/laptop)?

No nothing changed. Something happened to the provider and I didn't have internet for a few hours. After that the phone could connect and the laptop couldn't.
S2 4.0.4 no root.
So u checked the mobile hotspot option in settings? All like before?
Is it visible on ur laptop and u can't connect or u even can't see it?

When I set up my hot spot for a PS3 it works fine, connects without problems.
When I connect on my computer it will take a while to connect and then it will fail, asking me to troubleshoot additional problems.
Does anybody know how I can fix this? it's getting annoying, sometimes turning it off and on until it connects works but it takes a while and I'd prefer to fix the problem
Thanks guys

Based on the information you have provided, there is only one answer possible:
delete the DOS 6.22 partition on your x386 PC, buy new laptop with something more modern, like Ubuntu, Windows or MacOS and try again.
I clearly see that the root reason of your problem is lack of wifi card drivers for DOS...
And all of the XDA hired fortune tellers are agreeing with me.

I just noticed I didn't add my ROM or kernal, I'm on UltimaROM and SiyahKernal
Hello everybody, this is my first post in XDA.
I'm in a dead end with my phone, and after checking the whole forum and of course googling for an answer I can't find, here I am.
I've got a Samsung S3 i9300 (Int) which was functioning perfectly well with Ultima ROM 10.1. Now I tried to move on to 11.0 and found out my WIFI stopped working. Actually, it's able to connect to a non secured network but is unable to cope with wpa2 for instance. For some reason, it tags every network as WPS and fails to connect every time.
Strangely, I tried with a couple of other ROMs (Omega 44.2, Slim, NeatROM) and I have the exact same problem.
But if I move back to CyanogenMod 10.1 or stock, it works perfectly.
Can anyone help me out here?
THANKS!!
I had this exact same problem and banged my head against the wall over it and ended using just wpa, when I get time I'm going to attack the problem again though!

Well yes, but having this amazing phone and having trouble to connect to WIFI on a bar or something... sounds way too un-cool for me!
I hope someone has a solution for this,.. or at least a hint!
Have you tried using custom kernels such as Perseus or Siyah.
The kernel includes the Wifi drivers but not the wpa_supplicant so it should !e easy to pinpoint what causes it.
Also a logcat would be nice.

I had a look at that post, and I've tried most of those without any luck, and the one I haven't tried like an extreme wipe, I'm not willing to. I know it's not flawless logic what I'm going to say, but I think that if it works with some ROMs, it can't be solved by wiping.
