Android 4.0.3 (release1a) update! How to Rooted?
My sys version changed from 4.0.3 (Not PreRooted) to 4.0.3(release 1a) not rooted.
My updated yesterday, but did not see any difference.
Information on this update:
Android 4.0.3 (Release 1a) Now Available for Tablet S

Today, Sony released a new update for the Tablet S* that fixes the initial boot isses, something we haven’t experienced nor heard about ourselves.
There are some additional update points, however, they’re a bit odd…
Android 4.0.3 upgrade
Adds Small App function
Adds the slide show effect pattern
Support direct playback media media file on the SD card memory (Tablet S)
1, 2, and 4 were all part of the last update that came with Ice Cream Sandwich, so we don’t know why they’re included in this update, unless there’s tweaks to them. We’ll find out after I update.
Nope, can’t see anything new, probably notes on the previous update.
The update weigt in at 9.9MB, however we urge you to update via Wi-Fi only rather than 3G in order to avoid any nasty data use charges.
As we only have a Tablet S, we’re not sure if this update applies to the Tablet P as well. If you do own one, let us know.
Anyone know any more information this update?
It is possible to make root?

There is performance improvements in the homescreeen and remember, small updates like that will not change the kernel so no, you cannot root, The only way Sony will change the kernel is when they put a new version of android like Jelly Bean on and placing a Jelly Bean kernel on it and just maybe Sony will allow users to root just because its maybe the last update if its going to be fully fixed.

Ok, Thanks for the reply.
Another question:
1) Is it possible to unlock the bootloader of this device?
2) Is it possible to run another Kenel? KEXEC equal to Droid3 (XT860)?
Thanks.

Ok, but it is not possible for reasons of hardware or software?
It is not possible only because SONY?
Maybe there's a way! If SONY unlock the bootloader! If that is the to unlock it.
Correct?
Sony has to provide us with a way to unlock the bootloader. Trying to do it without Sonys help is like trying to fly to the moon without NASA

If the tablet becomes rootable again and someone does find ways or something, both yes but has far has i know, its a no for both.
There is APX mode that i entered today but i cannot get back in after the first try even if i got it right in the first time, if you can find the correct files, get NVFlash and get the combination correct, maybe you can get in but its more for making the device unbrickable (Depends on files) but hopefully someone can find a way in since APX Mode only works on Nivda Chipsets.

Sony's ICS are the best and it looks fantastic unlike any other brand ics

Sony will give as beta updates for BL unlocked phones like was with arc, ray and neo??
Somewhere I have read that Sony will not publicate alfa or beta roms for our phones.
If they restrict beta I will be mad!

It is said, that around end May/early June get all other Xperia phones the ICS update.
Cant wait for this. Loved the elegance of it.
Anyway, i think ICS will be available here on Brazil only in July ~ August. ):
Great news
I have a couple of questions though. If anyone is able to answer them I'd be thankful.
First of all, it seems root is already available on Xperia phones following some replies on this thread. Could someone please point me in the right direction as to how can we do it? A thread on this forum would do, sometimes even using search I get lost trying to find what I want
Second, suppose I don't like ICS and I'd rather revert back to GB. Will flashing the phone with a Nandroid backup work? I imagine I'll need root and install recovery first. Is recovery an easy thing to install on ICS? I installed my current recovery through the CWM Recovery installer available on Google Play, will it work on ICS? Will I need to unlock my bootloader to do it?
If a Nandroid backup won't work, will flashing the phone with Flashtool with a (rootable) .42 or .58 firmware work? If it does, will I still be able to update to .62 with OTA?
That's a lot of questions, I know..but I'd really like to know that stuff before I consider updating to ICS.
Thanks in advance!

dont sweat it.
here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320350
it only takes 15 minutes max to root.
remember, you cant root .62 yet
yes you can go back to any firmware of gingerbread if you dont like ics by using easy flashtool toolkit.
no you dont need cwm recovery to install ics, you need sony pc update companian app on your computer or maybe just through the air from your phone.
According to Android Central, ICS will begin being pushed to the Sony Tablet S today. Included is direct access to sdcard for some applications it seems. Hopefully also a wifi fix is included. Now who's willing to take the exploit plunge?
This issue has already several topics in "GENERAL" section...
Hope so.
I'm tired of honeycomb!!!!!!!
What more ICS brings new?
Could someone report immediately if the update is available in your region?
I would like to modify my region.zip and build.prop to download the regional file and will try to root it with Condis tool.
A copy of the build.prop could be helpful too. Thanks in advance.

I changed my device to US and got the update straight away.I just installed it and everything works fine.I lost root but I wanted to test it unrooted first and if there is a reason I'll root it again later if Condi comes up with a root solution
Got mine installed. US tablet.
Would anyone mind uploading a system dump? I do a lot of app/widget porting for the asus transformer and it would be nice to get my hands on some new material

Hi everybody, does anyone knows if Sony has planned an update for our Xperia ray to Jelly Bean ?
Or if an update is currently under development ?

Sony are 'reviewing' whether jellybean will work "effectively" on Xperia 2011 line, and based on their "research" they will publicly announce whether or not they will bring jellybean to our phones.

I disagree, I think Sony won't offer JB just for the user experience, instead they will avoid it to push the customers to buy new phones.
İf you have time, check and see ICS hardware discussion on official Sony forum:
Some of Sony's newer 2012 ICS phones has same or poor hardware compared to Ray yet they run ICS like a charm.
Im being positive
HAAAAAAX!!!
Just as I said before, Jelly Bean is great thanks to project butter. If they release it for Xperia 2011 line, the biggest problem would be SONY's policy of customizing JB with their own (heavily layered) UI and pushing unnecessary and bad bloatware that kills system performance. But the good part of this would be the release of official drivers, that means more posibilities for developers to cook fully working ROMs, even for locked bootloaders.
One way - CM10.......
We are counting on you!
Thanks for all your answers
But I can't test CM10 because my bootloader is locked :-/
Can I have CM10 with a locked bootloader (I have CWM and a rooted Xperia Ray) ?
Thanks you all, I love this forum

No you can't you need the kernel, and for the kernel, you need to unlock the bootloader, it's the only way. Btw, no jelly bean update at all, or at least that's what i've read, somewhere (can't remember..) because the 2011 line has only got 1 core processors, and it's not enough according to sony developers. Obviously that's stupid, as said before, it runs quite well in the nexus line, wich has similar specs. Take courage, and unlock your bootloader, that's my opinion, 'cause I'm sure that sony won't release Jb for our phones, and a custom rom will always be better anyways.
Best regards..!
Ok thanks, but before unlock my bootloader I will wait for a more stable Rom
And maybe I will try an ICS custom Rom to force me to unlock my bootloader

ooh, once you unlock and start trying slimmed down and alternative firmwares you won't go back.
One of our users called JJdoctor makes an excellent ICS firmware and FXP continue to work on CyanogenMod 10. This is shaping up to be an excellent JB firmware - already very stable and very fast.

Well as I recall they (SONY/GB) said on facebook that 2011 wouldn't get JB but then I saw on Xperia blog I think that it was demented e.g they are "investigating".
Personaly, I think they should end 2011 with Project Butter you know, end while your on top.
The HW should be ok and it's mostly performance optimazing from ICS

I woldn't ask for jb, I would be really happy with an ics rom, as smooth and stable as Gb.. And without the chunky camera app it has on ics, quality is way better back in gb.
I just ordered my Xperia Tablet Z (should arrive tomorrow).
Here is my question:
I am aware that sony has released the Android 4.3 AOSP ROM. And its my understanding that they say its not fully functional and was released to boost development.
So, am I able to just install this ROM onto my tablet and run it as a pure vanilla android / nexus / google experience device? Or will I face problems?
Do I need to install one of the developer's roms instead (like CM or something else)?
Much appreciated guys!
Yes it would be vanilla android like is on Nexus devices, however.....
You will have to build it yourself, unless someone has posted a build that I missed, but Spent gives you explicit instructions on how to build it.
You will then have to unlock your boot loader, BEFORE YOU UNLOCK BACK UP YOUR TA PARTITION, and then flash the rom according to the instructions Sony gives.
There are significant issues with the 4.3 ROM, unless they've all been fixed by now which I highly doubt, and you probably wont have full functionality out of your tablet. If you want 4.3 that badly I would go with CM seeing as how they have everything working on 4.2.2 and 4.3 except for HDMI. It isn't the vanilla android experience but it is as close as you'll come and keep full, minus HDMI, functionality of your tablet.

First off yes the all in one will root your tab
Do the rescue backdoor script in the a.i.o
Then apply the notification patch to stop the update notification
You cant flash or install a diff os on these tabs both the sts and xts are locked down tight but there seems to be good head way with booting from the sd card on the sts
DO NOT TRY TO FLASH JB TO THE STS YOU WILL BRICK IT

Thank you so much!
Can you fill me in on what headway or a link for booting from the SD card, I really, really hate the OS this tablet has, but if it is not possible I dont know if I should bother risking it.
Honestly, I hate what sony did with this tablet, especially given the price I paid for it when it came out.
Oh never mind, I found it, http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-tablet-s/general/sony-tablet-s-sys2sd-boot-sd-card-t2818649, it looks like it is just a softboot loader for extra protection, sad I cannot use J.B. , hopefully someone will figure out how to fake an authentic update to get people out of I.C.S.
Oh well, I may as well root it just in case, the modded playstore is at least worth it.
@ragehavoc @dex9mm
What exactly does the modded Android Market / Google Play give you? You cannot download things without payment.
Do you mean, just access to APP's that are only available to certain geographic regions?
I haven't flashed / rooted a device in 3 years. Last two were HTC devices.
For the sake of an example, take me as an idiot, who cannot understand the abbreviated chatter I see everywhere, with no reference to what anything means - could you please point me to 2-3 articles that have a DETAILED list of steps and screenshots for what needs to be done to get the Bootloader sorted, plus everything else, and then flash 4.1 OS?
or, am I stuck on 4.0.3 forever, regardless of root/stock?
Thank you!
