OK so listen here, I have owned the following device listed below, yes I know I'm crazy LOL, I'm a tech guy and I love to try out everything.
Items owned within the last 2 months.

Motorola xoom
Asus Transformer and Dock
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 I/O edition
Nook Color rooted with CM7....
Ok now, I did like every device I did own but something just seemed missing from them all. Out of all if them I will say the Transformer was the best, accept for the sound.
Now on to me owing the HTC Flyer with nice white case and magic Pen, and I will go all out now and say that its the best damn android tablet I have now owned. I love everything about the Flyer, The screen is right up there with the best of them and I think it even looks better then the Ipad2 and transformer screens, viewing angles are tops. The text is so clear and perfect.
Now I have read reviews about the HTC Flyer sounds lacking, honestly I have no Idea what the reviewers are talking about the HTC flyer sounds is amazingly loud and freaking clear sound. So don't read the review about the sound not being good, the HTC flyer sound blows the Transformer speakers out of the water.
Now lets talk about speed, yes speed, With just a single 1.5 ghz core processor this thing seems so much faster the dual core processors, you say how, well do a test for your self,m the web browser has been the best experience out of all the Tablets I have owned. Crazy as it sounds but its super fast.
Now the Pen, yes it may sound like a gimmick but its not and its fun and useful to you in its own right.
Anyway, I hear honeycomb is going to be released for the Flyer, and I will say there's really no need fcor it, I love the Flyer as is, I Give big Kudos to HTC on making and sweet like mobile Tablets, in the end people that's all I wanted was a nice mobile device and The Flyer takes the cake.
I give it a 9 oput of 10.
Don't listen to the reviews, this tab is way underrated.

I have been down a very similar path with tablets. I have tried them all. No doubt about it, the flyer is the best. I truley love this tablet, and actually use itnom a daily basis.

I love 7" tablets, and this isby far the best I have used. The web browsing is just amazingly fast, can't get enough of the Flyer.
It's nice but I still would take a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or the Limited Edition over it.

That's why I sold my Tegra 2 tablet and still have my flyer.
about the processor
A 1.5 ghz single core processor will always blow away a 1 ghz dual core processor until applications are optimized for dual core processors. If an application wasn't designed with multi core processors in mind then it is basically 1.5 ghz single core vs. a 1 ghz dual core that will only run on 1 core. Right now there are relatively few applications out there that are actually optimized for the dual core processors, so you rarely see the increase in speed from the tegra2 processor that other tablets have.
I love my HTC Flyer and its wimpy 1.5 ghz processor that I've been reading about in all the reviews that are written by people who don't know what they are talking about ha.

Its hype don't do it. I owned the tab 10.1 limited sold it bought the flyer returned the flyer bought another limited sold it bought the flyer again. The tab is a nice piece of hardware honeycomb is lacking right now. The flyer is amazing and will develop a cult like following. I prefer it over all tablets right now. Its the small things such as the propriety cable that also takes micro USB, the beaitful screen, pen is really useful, size and weight are prefect, and it takes a micro sd cards to expand storage. I have a 32gb SD card and its awesome.
I don't want honeycomb on it unless its just as functuional as it is now.

I agree with all you wrote about the Flyer. Before I buy my, I also read the reviews and was afraid that it was a little bit slow, because every review note the single core CPU and that it is slower than the dual core tablets.
I thought the tester not only under impress from the ipad hype but really test and feal it. But it compare the Flyer with many other devices, also the (reported) fast ones like the ipad 2. And in all my tests the Flyer was much faster and react directly.

So sure? Okay, mathematical is 2 x 1 bigger then 1.5 and also in applications which make many calculations but a tablet is not a calculator and not use as one but mainly a user interface and here it depends only on the OS and the one for ipad and honeycomb are both optimized. But in an OS you haven't so much use in a dual core system.
Only in some games you will have an advantage. This is the same here as by other devices and PCs where the advantage from a dual core in normal daily use is also limited.
So, don't expect that one day the dual core are much faster...
Mathematically it doesn't matter until the application is written for multi threaded processing. Or parallel processing, whatever you'd like to call it. Once those applications are optimized you will see a speed different in the performance of processing intensive applications. The few that are out right now are mostly games. And if you are in the market for a gaming device, I don't think most people buy a 7 inch tablet that comes with true pen support.
I'm really very happy about this thread. I haven't tried many tablets, so I have little to compare. I have messed with a friend's eee Transformer, and it's ok, but I think the build quality is kind of poor, and the tegra2 processor is slower than my flyer... as mentioned above. In real-world performance, we were both playing back 720p mkvs in Mobo Player... his stuttered occasionally enough to be annoying. The flyer never had a hiccup. I'll take the 1.5ghz proc over the tegra2 any day. The form factor is also really great as well. I do look forward to honeycomb on it, just for Google's Video Chat.
again, what matters to me is the size and performance, and out of all the tablets I mention I owned, the flyer kicks all there butts.
I mean all I hear is about all the other tablets screens, let me tell you the flyer's screen is better the all of them, I know some will say "yeah your saying that because I own the flyer", No really the flyer's screen is flat out no pun intended "Quietly Brilliant". Viewing angles are best I have seen, even better theh the ipad2 and Asus.
The battery is great too. It has lasted much linger then the Xoom I owned and the Transformer. Asus says the transformer has 9.5 hours, I beg to differ, my battery on the Asus tab alone without the dock was dying in just about 6 hours ion full charge.
I'm still learning with the magic pen, well that's what I call it. Ans its just an awesome feature,
I will go on record again and say this, I don't know what some of these guys reviewing are saying about the speakers, the Speaks on the flyer are freaking tops for me. It is right up there with the xoom's speakers which is noticed to be the best. I say the Flyers speakers are one of the best!
I think people just give bad reviews to give them. I'm unbiased and I think the flyer is a complete WIN, best tablet of 2011 bar none, and of course this is all my opinion. I just don't want people passing this thing up until they own one or at least use it for a day, I'm telling you a day with the flyer and all opinions will change.
Bottom Line GREAT JOB HTC...
I think the main problem with people taking a dive with the HTC flyer is the lack of developer support. I was going to pick one up and I heard that there's just too little support for the device . I think that's why people get the galaxy tab 10.1 cause even if it's not a great product out of the box, dev's make it a really great device when they work their magic.

really, what does the great support does the galaxy tab have.
I'm not paying $500 to $600 for a device with no Micro Sd card support, so IMO galaxt tab =Possible Fail.

Well, first off it almost instantly acquired root access... and actually the 8.9 will be a bigger hit than the 10.1 I think.. no sd card is kinda fail but the 8.9 will have sd support and people seem to like that size. Samsung has always had a great track record for developer support, galaxy tab 7', galaxy S lines etc. I'll probably pick up the flyer to test it out properly for the 14 days, but I played with it for about 40 minutes and I just really disliked the little hiccups in the launcher =/, but I think I should have a proper few days before I make my final decision

I agree the 8.9 will be a success, but honeycomb still is crap right now.

Well the 8.9 will be nice I bet, but with still no SD card support, and it being already confirmed by Samsung that the 8.9 will have cheaper screen, sorry I will still stil with my flyer.

Well, I keep reading it will include sd card support. If there's no sd support, I'm just going to buy the eee pad slider when it comes out this summer. If the 8.9 does have sd support, I'll be going with the 8.9, but I'm still going to pick up a flyer today and run it through it's paces. Who knows, I might fall in love with it .
sidenote: Is launcherpro compatible with tablets? If it is, that'll fix the issue of having to stick with the sense launcher

And I know that after I root and rom it, this thing will be amazing.
But am I too late for the party? Is it worth it to buy one now? Or should I just wait at this point to see if something better is coming out... I have not been researching tablets as much as phones lately.

This is a good question. The G-Tab is a sweet tablet for the price point, it will get its best shot at Honeycomb next week, when Notion Ink drops a first party release of Honeycomb for the Adam (which shares a lot of similar elements to our tablet).
That being said, everyone who currently owns a tablet (except for the Transformer and the NEW Galaxy Tab 10.1) is paying the early adopter price. Android isn't 100% there yet, but if you own an Android phone you know this. For me, I absolutely love Gingerbread (2.3.3) on my Droid X, and I loved 2.3.4 on my Droid 1; it's a complete enough OS for me now. Honeycomb 3.1 feels much better than 3.0 as well.
Tegra 3 (Kal-El) is right around the corner, and will probably come in at a $400.00 price point. Qualcomm is shooting for 4-core tablet processors by the end of the year (Q4). Also, we're expecting to see Ice Cream / Ice Cream Sandwich (next Android version, for both tablet and phone) in late Q3.
If you can wait, wait. if not, get a G-Tab. Something like a Xoom is not worth the premium over the G-Tab, even for a nicer screen.
It is an excellent question, but you really have to understand your own tech preferences to know for sure.
The GTAB's main cons right now are the screen angles (most likely unfixable) and the stock software. For the latter, there are many mods you can use, but if you are looking for a HC port it's not quite there yet - we're hoping that will change soon.
Its pros are price. For $125 less than a Transformer, you can get a device that's comparable in speed and might be comparable in software, in the near future. But you are in the hands of the modding community since the vendor seems to have abandoned the device.
There will always be the next best thing, around the corner. So it's a really a question of price and whether or not the device serves your purposes at that price.
I'm confident that this device is more than capable of doing what I want to do.
Mostly web browsing.
Some games.
Perhaps Facebook games.
youtube, flash, netflix if possible.
I'm not going to use it for work, and start editting documents, etc.
I'm going to check out one at Sears possibly today and see if the viewing angles are an issue.
I think the main reason I'm worried about something new coming out, is because of the chance the modding community might move on to the next device. haha
Also a valid point to consider. I can't speak for everyone here, but for myself I plan to pull back after this month. Not so much because the GTAB isn't a good device to mod anymore, but for personal reasons (taking a break from modding tablets, in general - will still have my GTAB but will be less focused on it, that's all).
There was a bit of a lull last month, but there's still activity right now in development as new devs have popped up as some of the older devs/modders have moved on it seems. So, it's hard to say what will happen in a few months, but right now there's still some activity. I think that will continue until the Notion Ink HC port shows up and it's ported over to the GTAB (we hope).
Great info in these posts as i'm in the same situation as the original poster. Currently an ipad user but would like to try an android tablet on the "cheap". Unfortunately, there isn't any retailer nearby carrying the tablet so i cant see how bad the viewing angles are first hand. Is the screen good straight on?

Have you ever used a netbook before? The screen is a typical netbook screen. Straight on and 45 degrees each way looks fine. From up above viewing angle will go to almost 90 degrees without the loss of quality. From below anything beyond 45 degrees and you will lose the colors.
There are also some nice youtube video comparisons between the G-Tablet and iPad. One in particular shows the differences in the viewing angles. You'll know which one I'm talking about becuase the creator uses his daughter's iPad, with her "Hello Kitty" wallpaper on it...
(in my opinion though, how can you see the superiority of a screen that has Hello Kitty on it, lol)
The viewing angles are bad, but, I VERY rarely need to share the screen or find myself in a position where the screen is hard to see. sure, other devices have screens with better angles, but how often do you browse the web or watch a movie at an 80 degree angle from a personal device?
I love this tablet. I bought a leather case from electronic crap dot com and its like carrying around a journal. Easy to carry, I play games on it and I log into my computer at work from it all the time.
I agree, there always something better around the corner, but this tab has a great price point and there are lots of stable and highly usable roms.
Bottom line is you don't get this tablet because its the latest and greatest. You gt it because its way cheaper than other tabs with the same power.
Thanks everyone. I do have a netbook, never really had issues with the screen. I also saw that video with the hello kitty screen saver. Straight on, i'm guessing the screen is pretty decent.
You will be happier spending a bit more on the crop of Honeycomb tablets released this year. The first time you flip your gTab around to show someone something on the screen, only to see that person moving his or her head around with a look of stern concentration on their face, desperately trying to find the right angle to see what the hell you're trying to show them, you'll wish you had forked over their extra $100 or so for a better screen. You may think, "Oh I'll never do that, I'll always just be looking at it straight on with no deviation!" but you'll find out soon enough that's not the case.
That's just one example. There are other solitary situations where the screen won't be at the sweet-spot angle -- for example, my Transformer is sitting on my desk here at work, propped up in its case, but it's behind me and to the right, and still looks great. I often reach back and press the power switch to get a quick look at my email or whatnot. The gTab would require me to move directly in front of it to get a good view.
gTab was a good starter tablet when the only other option was a $700 Xoom. With the cheaper tablets being released, its value has decreased greatly. But if you only have $275 or whatever to spend, and can't afford $125 more, then I guess it's your best option for a 10.1" Android tablet.

Having used the G-tab for about 4+ months; my recommendation is to wait (if you can). My biggest gripe is the screen (both resolution and viewing angles).
I use it primarily as a media consumption device...watching videos, games, browsing and reading books (in that order)
videos - if I have an option (pc or tv near by) i chose them as the resolution on G-tab is not good. HD videos are choppy (I have tried a few mods but all more or less same)
Games - this is good no complaints
Browsing - this does not have 3g so without wifi its useless. I tether using my iphone, which is cumbersome but works
Reading books - good; but the screen is useless outside (unless its night or cloudy)
This is a great device to buy cheap and beat the crap out of it...(software wise). I also owned an ipad and adam and they also have their own problems.
My first Android tablet is Gtab because it is cheaper and has good performance compared to other 10" tablet in the market. For 10" size tablet, if you have up to $300 budget, Gtab was a good starter tablet (with Xda support). If you have up to $400 to spend, ASUS transformer is not bad. If you have more than $500, of course, you will have more choices. So it depend on your budget.
Thanks everyone for your replies. I think this would be a good, cheap way to get into Android tablets. I would still have my ipad as a backup.

I'm willing to bet you only tried the ginger based ones. Those don't have hw acceleration, so HD vids are choppy. The froyo ones, especially the ones based off of TnT, are pretty smooth.
My recommendation to the OP is if you're going to get the gtab please please please go to my website and read it. And if you're going to compare it to the ipad, please stick with froyo. It is not the latest and greatest, but it certainly is stable and fast.
I was thinking about TF or GT10.1 but non of HC based tablets supports Netflix as for the moment... Well, paying $125 or more in case of GT10.1 for not been able to watch Netflix in my opinion is just wrong.
No doubt, IPS or better screen is a must for photo-frames.
All in all there are no perfect tablet as of now but hopefully we will get there...
I went to Office Depot today to see the screen.
I didn't think it was as bad as what everyone is saying.
Sure, its not as nice as an iPad screen...but its potentially almost half the price...
I don't mind that tradeoff... I'm looking at buying it used anyway. I figured that's the best way to break into the tablet realm and not have any regret about not waiting..

I highly NOT recommend buying the G Tablet. It has nothing to do with the viewing angles.
The reasons why I would tell people to stay away from the tablet are the following:
1) Viewsonic released the damn thing and then basicaly orphaned it immediately. The result is a lack of software libraries needed for development, and the implications are inferior mods with more limited capabilities. As far as I'm aware, there are no Gingerbread roms that truly support HD or fully support graphics hardware acceleration. And getting Honeycomb on the damn thing has been a Promethian effort. All Honeycomb mods are in alpha, and there's hardly any guarantee that any will ever be fully functioning.
2) The bulky design is far from a joy to hold in your hands. It makes it unpleasant to use the touchscreen while holding it, making both gameplay and activities like typing more difficult.
3) Others may disagree with me, but software on the tablet has always acted jerky and has always been slow. It completely lacks the smoothness of other devices, and sometimes it's hard to believe that you're actually using a comparartively (for price vs. power) powerful piece of hardware with dual core processor and not something that feels like it barely has the computational power to run your web browser or word processor (however, it does handle graphics rendering as well as it should).
Maybe I'm overly pessimistic, but I cannot imagine an application for which the G Tablet could be at all recommended. I would highly advise looking elsewhere for an entry level Android device, or wait for the new batch of Honeycomb tablets which will roll into stores very soon.

I have a rooted NookColor running CM7 OC'd to 1.3ghz. It's on the 'low end', I guess...it screams, honestly. Only cost $249. It does everything I need it to do (besides have an MEID). It's the perfect shape and size for web browsing on the couch...in portrait web pages are a dream to read due to the layout. Just like a book, format wise. It's also pretty light weight.
I originally went out to get an actual tablet sold as a tablet...but they are freakin' huge and freakin' heavy...I just happened to pass by the barnes and noble on my way out of the mall, saw that right next to a 'how to hack your nook color' book...so I bought the NookColor and came right here.
It's a little rough around the edges, but, the shape, weight, the fact that you can boot of an SDcard so you can have roms all over the damned place...hell, you can dual boot roms. It also kicks ass at games, though, I don't really play many games so YMMV...
...I'd i magine any of the real tablets (Galaxytab 10.1, Xoom, Thrive, etc) must really stomp ass at everything. I'm not a huge fan of Honeycomb myself...but, I'm sure those newer dual core monsters can tear through it no problem. They are all pretty awesome from what I can tell dicking around with them at Best Buy.
I guess that depends, what are you planning on doing with it? Light web browsing and light gaming (nothing heavy duty)? Root yourself a NookColor and enjoy... But if you want a no-bull**** heavy hitter I've heard great things about the Xoom... I figured the Evo4G tablet thing their would be awesome, but, after playing around with it at sprint I can't help be feel completely underwhelmed. Maybe it got beaten up since it's a display, but, the size, weight and bezel all annoyed me. I treat mine like a book, physically...not like a flat laptop. I couldn't really see doing that with some of the bigger heavier ones. The interface was also, umm, goofy to me. Though admittedly I know nothing about it besides the 10 seconds I wasted trying to navigate the UI...which I did, in a rather clunky manner.
I love my Transformer. It is rooted, but I don't really use it for anything but surfing the interwebs. When I get a keyboard it will probably be all I use. I love my ASUS ROG laptop, but this thing is too large for normal uses.
Had a Samsung Galaxy on Sprint (the big block looking one, not the nice new ones)... Didn't care for it too much because of the upcoming Honeycomb tablets being dropped, along with it lacking support for most of the apps it said it could download.
Went to an Archos 70IT, loved the space I had on it (250GB HDD), but hated how it was just that, a physical spinning HDD. That along with the lack of support to video chat with its FACTORY STOCK front facing camera was a little annoying, considering Qik and other applications did not work on it, and the inability to have the Google marketplace on it without installing 3rd party software was a little annoying. For what it was, it was good though, just not speedy enough.
Then came the Motorola Xoom... The flagship device for Honeycomb that even months after still had no update enabling the MicoSD card. Along with Honeycomb being on the brink of even being ready to be released it seemed, I recently put that one up for sale and hope it sells soon. The development for the Xoom seems to be there, and there are some nice features available for the Xoom, just I don't care for it really.
Battery life... OMG, did this take the cake though! SUPER nice battery life!
Thought about the new 10.1 Galaxy tab by Sammy... And boy oh boy was it a nice light platform, but then again there were issues with it having HC (in my mind). It seemed a lot better than the Xoom though! Might eventually think about getting one.
HTC Flyer too looked appealing, nice small package, does the whole writing on the screen thing like we all want.... Probably has Netflix support for all I know, lol.
But for now, I just picked up an iPad2. It has everything I want in a very nice package. Slim profile, nice design, few awesome accessories, and support beyond that which Motorola, Samsung, or Archos have provided me thus far.
I don't need all kinds of wizbang-cool features on a tablet, I just want to be able to play a game or two, Netflix (OH!!! the Xoom STILL HAS YET to have on it working properly, com'on Netflix... I thought the Tegra 2 and chipset what not wasn't going to be a problem), browse internet, couple books, and news... Only thing I'm going to miss I think from my Xoom really is the emulator and USB OTG to play emulators and roms on.... but then again, I can hookup my EVO 3D and use that (in theory) a heck of a lot easier than I can my XOOM, where I'd need three cables coming out if it sometimes to have it on the TV doing what I needed it to do.
That and the girlfriend understands and iPad2 a bit better than the Xoom. She got lost soooo much trying to use it, and the Archos 70... In the long run I think the iPad is MUCH better, and hopefully can get a little bit of money out of it too with BBuy's BuyBack program.
Flame me for being a dualist, lol, but I love my iPod touch and iPad2 just as much as my EVO 3D. I will always use Google stuff for my cellular needs, and probably always use Mac stuff for everything else it seems.
Arm gets heavy though, running with the EVO 3D tracking (Cardio Trainer) and the iPod Touch playing music.
I have to really start doing my research on stuff though, lol, I've wasted bookoo bucks on tablets...

I'm not a huge fan of Honeycomb myself...but, I'm sure those newer dual core monsters can tear through it no problem. They are all pretty awesome from what I can tell dicking around with them at Best Buy.
I guess that depends, what are you planning on doing with it? Light web browsing and light gaming (nothing heavy duty)? Root yourself a NookColor and enjoy... But if you want a no-bull**** heavy hitter I've heard great things about the Xoom... I figured the Evo4G tablet thing their would be awesome, but, after playing around with it at sprint I can't help be feel completely underwhelmed. Maybe it got beaten up since it's a display, but, the size, weight and bezel all annoyed me. I treat mine like a book, physically...not like a flat laptop. I couldn't really see doing that with some of the bigger heavier ones. The interface was also, umm, goofy to me. Though admittedly I know nothing about it besides the 10 seconds I wasted trying to navigate the UI...which I did, in a rather clunky manner.

Just watched presentation of upcoming Toshiba Tab and Iahve to say I fell in love again (as with GT 10.1 which dissapointed me with itd SoC).
AT200 will be equipped with Ti OMAP4 4430 (1,2 Ghz) chip - the one with Netflix HD certificate. Has microSD slot, micro USB and HDMI. It is just 7,7 mm thick and very light.
What do you think....if you thinking of getting GT10.1 in few days would that make you wait?
And one more thing... Video transcoding - is it coming to an end???
I just bought my tab 4 days ago, don't want to even think about this tablet, I would've gotten it but too late now :/
Specs is one thing. What's important is real life performance and if there's any other possible flaw. Gtab actually looks not bad, but the software performance bogged it down. I'd by the time the Toshiba tablet is released, icecream sandwich may be released or close to be released. So unless the performance of the Toshiba tab is another class higher than grab, I see no point thinking too much about it.

I looked at the Engadget review and the tablet looked pretty slow to me, I might be wrong. I'm very happy with my P7510 running on a vanilla 3.1 Honeycomb (soon to run on PhantomHacker's 3.2 vanilla ROM) and I'm looking forward to see Ice Cream on it.
The thing is, we will never purchase a tablet if we wait for the next "big one" to come out. Technology changes so fast that is not worth to trouble yourself. Just enjoy the tablet and use it to death, I personally think that my Tab 10.1 is an excellent product.
Well, I am not waiting for the next big one but just for one that does not have Tegra2 inside, looks OK, has I/O's I want and 3G connectivity.
So, just to have something for now I bought iPad 1 3G few weeks ago. As it is very limited device I was waiting for it to get right price. $350 for new one on warranty is OK. Now I can wait till end of the year to get Excite or Holiday or TF2 or Xoom2.... Will see.
If you want to wait, an alternative would be the HP Touchpad for $99 (fire sale instead of $499). It runs on WebOS which is awesome and I'm pretty sure someone will make an Android ROM for it eventually. Don't expect a great quality build, though.
The Tosh looks very nice, another weapon in the Android armoury. I'm still very happy with my Samsung 16Gb Wifi.

It would be all true if folks like me could actually get it.
IMHO if you want (especially 3G) tablet now, good one, for reasonable price, just to keep you going till the one you really want is out iPad1 seems like a great deal.
Does most of the stuff Tegra 2 tablets do, has 3G and new one can still be found pretty cheap (half of the zoom price for example). And form me video capabilities all almost the same.
There will be always something new and better than what's available currently in the market. By the time Toshiba excite gets released to the market, even more better tablet with awesome specs will be shown at a new tech show taking place anywhere on this planet Earth.

I'm feeling exactly the same as you. The size and weight of the GT 10.1 was perfect but the poor video decoding performance of the Tegra 2 and lack of MicroSD card slot was a real let down. The AT200 seems like it will be perfect for me (assuming the OMAP proc is a lot better for video decoding). I just hope it comes out real soon to the UK market. If they delay it too long then I may be put off with official specs of ICS tablets.
It is the same SOC as in new Archos G9 series (like them but they look "cheap") and they say it will "Play" anything and everything. ;-)
Dont even think about getting the tab 10.
The Ti OMAP4 4430 in the toshiba is far superior to Tegra 2.
Ti OMAP4 4430 has A9 cores with Neon processing. Tergra 2 does not have the Neon processing and will be much slower when running apps which use Neon code and alot of apps are starting to use it.
Ti OMAP4 4430 has DUAL channel memory controller. Tegra 2 only has a single channel. Since video memory is shared, dual channel will give double the memory bandwidth which is highly needed since video memory is shared from system memory.
Ti OMAP4 4430 has SUPERIOR video decoding hardware compared to tegra 2. You can finally play real HD 1080p video. Tegra 2 decoder is so slow it cant decode main and high HD profiles which is what everyone uses.

Full specs have been released.
Does it have an amazing screen like the Samsung SPLS? Screen quality along with weight is what made my decision. However im disappointed in the current state of honeycomb/tablet apps. I would expect apps like Google+ to have the hangout video support. Lack of skype video is also a huge downer. My older samsung galaxy 7 also had way better video playing support.

No, but don't worry, I do not think Europe has one either .
And two facts:
1. OMAP is a definitely better SOC than Tegra 2 - no arguing here. The only thing at which Tegra 2 might be better (we will have to wait and see, but I doubt it myself) is energy management.
I am worried about battery life of a tablet with 1,2 - 1,5 Ghz clock.
2. It will be cheaper in US than in EU - fact.
Now, one more "issue" we might encounter by the time it is in the shops. What will be a better choice - tablet with Omap4 or Tegra3/Kal-El with 4 cores and new architecture? (unless nvidia made an intel trick or the one they do with graphic cards - Tegra 3 is two Tegra 2 cpu's on a single chip - this would suck I think)

There's already a system for this. Its called cornerstone. The problem is that is is so hard to implement into builds. There is a working build on rootz but it is not kept up or worked on.
But I do agree that something like this would be awesome to have on our tablets. There are many times I can use this.

Nice tablet. The resolution and the type of display it uses is outdated though. Why didn't they go full HD? Aside from that, looks really good. I like the s pen feature. Why Samsung has to add touch wizard bloat on everything? Lol. I'm sure this device will run much faster/better with it removed or on a custom rom.
As for the interface, it looks cool but the chameleon one is more impressive. Its already in beta release. So this type of interface is here already for prime. Not to mention cornerstone builds being out for months already.

Actually, Samsungs year 2012 software is really good. The original ICS UI is more beautiful, but Samsung has made many good features in their rom and the "bloatware" UI runs as smooth if not even smoother than the original Android UI. Samsung has done some serious software optimization for their Exynos hardware and the UI and browser are using GPU acceleration efficiently.
If the default browser is even a bit as smooth as the browser in SGS3 then the Note 10.1 will be the first tablet that can be compared to iPad in terms of web browsing. The original Android web browser just is not as smooth as the default browser in iDevices, pinch to zoom lags more or less all the time.

yeah it runs smooth on the video. not sure why not just come out with jb rom instead.
spec wise, this tablet exceeds expectations. my only gripe is the display. might be good for s pen usage but not sure how well itll be for watching 720p movies & such.
is it me or did the display look like it has a grid on it? or is this part of that particular display it uses to make good use of s pen?
i wish this tablet had a dock like prime/infinity pad. will be looking forward to more hands on reviews of it.

True. I am disappointed not any of the major Android makers havent brought their competitor for Transformer to the market. I think Asus needs a little kick to their ass from another manufacturers to get their software (or is it now the slow memory or something) up to a level it should be.
Lenovo's transformer type pad S2110 is suppose to be out in the US. Even though it is a dual core, it uses those Qualcomm next gen Krait cpu cores.

yea about that Crispy noises thing.
i just noticed that the other day with my dock. every time i close the tablet and dock, i hear a crispy noise almost sounds like glass breaking or sand in the glass pressing against it etc. it doesn't sounds good yet every time i look and clean the tablet and keyboard looking for anything that would cause interference i don't see or find anything. even pressing the glass to make sure nothing it loose or coming apart and I don't see anything.
wtf is that crispy sound.

It's the little screws beneath the rubber feet of the dock. There was a thread about it a while ago. I found a couple loose on mine after checking.
Carefully lift the feet, which are attached with double sided tape, and tighten the wee little screw hidden inside. My tape wanted to stay on the dock and not the foot.

I'm guessing because of the cost of a digitizer being made that much more granular on such a large display.
"While Samsung refused to confirm if the built-in digitizer is based on Wacom's technology, the company did reveal that it supports up to 256 levels of pressure sensitivity."
Why Samsung has to add touch wizard bloat on everything? Lol. I'm sure this device will run much faster/better with it removed or on a custom rom.

That "bloat" is what's holding it all together. There's no native Android support for the level of screen sensitivity the Note has or for the psuedo-multitasking. Awake Stay and Pop-Up-Play are features from the SGS3 that have been carried over and make a lot more sense on a tablet than a phone.

Long time no see please do a detailed review. Even better make a video of it. If it impresses me enough I might look into it(might be getting a new 10in. Tablet soon. Infinity pad seems to be the best out now but this tab is interesting and specs look good) I just wish the display was lil better. Its likely better in person.
But does the display really have a visible grid on it? Looked like it on the video. How good can THST be for watching movies or whatever?
I have a nexus7 now and loving the jellybean experience. This little tablet is a beast. I never thought I would like the 7in. Form factor so much. I already have it rooted and unlocked. Running stock rom and alternating between motley linaro based kernel with gpu OC to 520mhz and Morrific kernel. I/O is not an issue for me on nexus 7. On rl sqlite bench I get 16 secs. Overall now. On quadrant I'm scoring close to 7k+ overall and over 10k on I/O scores. Its funny how the budget priced nexus 7 has demolished all other android tablets in benchmarking. Its been all over the tech sites lately(about how nexus7 benches higher than any other android device when using Der kernel by mortiffic) One user scored over 7300 overall. And like over 14k on I/O. Even my chainfire benches show me crushing the Samsung galaxy S3 processor. My nenamark2 score is 64.7Fps. Nexus 7 is a great tablet period. Great developement support for it already and its still in infancy of release. All the best developers have one or plan on getting one.
So this is out in stores already? Uses quad core exynos?
Still rocking the tegra3 one X? I hear galaxy note2 is dropping soon. Might have flexible display like Sammy demonstrated before.

Only bad thing about THST Lenovo seems to be the fact its going to use an atom. Based on comments section on THST article, not fairing well with potential buyers. Is this the new variant(more powerfuk/battery friendly)described way back for tablets? What about those other Intel chips mentioned to be use by win8 tablets?
I'm always anxious to try latest tech but do you think e.mote might be right when he said might be best to wait for next generation win8 tablets. No matter if arm or Intel powered. This initial release of win8 tabs. Will have its growing pains.

The Intel ATOM the article is referring to is either Medfield (hopefully not) or Cloverfield (this is the dual-core one) SoC. The Intel Atom comments are referring to old Intel Atom processors... during the netbook days. And rightfully... they were weak....& those who had bad exp. with netbooks will probably be weary about it...
During Computex... Asus Tablet 810 was on Medfield... although, hopefully.. when it actually releases.. I hope it will be Cloverfield as pretty much all Atom based tablets will be on Cloverfield.
To break it down to you:
1.) Intel Medfield/Cloverfield & AMD Trinity vs. ARM SoC
This will be for cheaper version of Win 8 tablets. Medfield/Cloverfield/Trinity are x86 SoC that are designed to compete with ARM SoC.
2.) Intel i3/i5/i7 vs AMD FX, Phenom.. whatever AMD has next
This will be for those who need power (but crap battery life).
Again, if I were you... I'll stay away from WinRT.. or ARM tablets for Windows 8. Simply no reason to purchase them at launch....
I would go for Intel Cloverfield tablet.... or just one of the i3/i5/i7 ones.

I survived Android 3.1 and Teg2 on a tablet with Android. I don't want to go through that again with W8. It'll take W8 tablets a while to shake out. Meantime ICS (and soon JB), decent SoC's, and Google getting in to the tablet business will accelerate the maturation of Android tablets. I really use my tablet for occasional productivity work like MS Office and usually editing not creating. Most of the time it's a consumption device and that's going to take W8 a while to get to the same level. I'm kind of disappointed in the non-HD display but the big get is the ability to use it for handwritten notes. From what I've read a great deal of W8, even in RT, isn't fully touch enabled. Depending on the degree that's true I think people will be disappointed. And don't laugh but being able to use it as a phone is a big benfit too. For Skype and long conference calls its massive battery will come in handy. My old G-Tab's on my plan as an extra phone so unlimited voice, messaging, and data is the same $20 a month.
Here's a link to the users manual. It's got some pretty cool features. Suffering from ADD (jk) the ability to watch movies via Pop-Up-Play and do other stuff is pretty cool. It also has Buddy Share social tagging for pictures which works with local shots as well as anything you import. It's really like a big SGS3 minus NFC.

I've been lurking but it's been pretty quiet around here. Maybe that's because I stopped stirring the pot. I was looking at the Infinity because it's supposed to come out in a 3G version. The QC issues are tamer than what the Prime launched with but still there. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
I just wish the display was lil better. Its likely better in person.
But does the display really have a visible grid on it? Looked like it on the video. How good can THST be for watching movies or whatever?

I'm guessing it's a totally different display than what's been used in the past because of the digitizer. The G-Tab 2's display was noted as inferior to the original by the reviewers. And god I hope the grids not visible; that would suck.
Even my chainfire benches show me crushing the Samsung galaxy S3 processor.

I know you like benchmarks. Someone posted one. It's better than the SGS3 I'm guessing because of the lower resolution of the display and additional RAM. Going from my One X to my old G-Tab was painful. I'm looking forward to my tablet at least keeping up with my phone.
So this is out in stores already? Uses quad core exynos?

Negri got some 16GB 3G models in. They gave one to TechnoBuffalo to do an unboxing vid. All the labeling was in spanish so I'm guess this early batch is from Latin America. It's not cheap but based on the European pricing it would be about the same if I waited for it to be released in the UK because of the exchange rate. The 16GB Wi-Fi versions's supposed to be $499 I think. It's the same Exynos/Mali SoC that's in the SGS3 with an additional GB of RAM.
