Coming from someone who just created one of these threads two days ago...here's some advice.
I had the of evo 4g....then the evo 3d....and now I just moved to the Samsung. I don't know yet if I made the right choice but I know that the LTE didn't feel like the right choice either.
Asking these kinds of questions will always give you biased reviews. In the evo forum it stands to reason you'll get plenty of support for the evo. In the galaxy forum you will get support for the galaxy.
Look in both. Do what I did and look at the general ans q&a sections for both, see what the issues and comments seem to be.
My deal killer with the lte was the lack of removable battery. The next big thing were all the sense problems I kept reading about. My wife likes sense and the stock look, so I need stability in the stock setup for her...even if it means switching from sense, which I never used anyway.
Good luck with your decision. It stressed me out a lot because I live on my phone and I've been with htc for so long...but it didn't feel right this time. Maybe when that rumored superphone comes out things will change...

Except the non-removable battery. I personally don't care, but apparently some people drain three batteries a day. That would be a legitimate deal breaker for some. However, OP, the battery life is outstanding so don't be put off by this unless you are the type who streams music 12 hours a day and switches batteries regularly.

I would say go with the s3 since your used to touch wiz ,even though the screen is saturated and pentile, the 1280x720hd reso helps that. Personally I have the EVO 4g LTE,its rooted and I love it to death. I don't see how a device this fast with just 2000mah could have such amazing battery life.the sgs3 should have even better battery life with that samoled screen.

I'm so used to bringing my charger to work even till this day and I still don't use it. My og evo & evo3d had crap battery life even with a bigger battery. Non removable battery isn't a concern anymore. Atleast for me
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
They are both the same technically hardware wise its more of a personell opinion I had the s3 felt like a piece of plastic in my hand, the lte felt like how a phone should be solid yet light weight plus I live the dedicated camera button and I love showing off how many pics i can take and still be crystal clear ,plus the s3 screen is way to saturated for my eyes, when I play on my bros phone its like I'm playing halo haha and when I go back to my phone its like real life haha---my opinion
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I think they are both very good phones. Also, you can always get roms installed, so talking about software is pointless. The one thing that I really prefer about the evo over the s3 is the lack of physical home button. That's a button you use a lot throughout the day, so there's a chance the s3's home button will get wonky down the road. That's my feeling, since I experienced issues with the home button on my old iphone 4 two months before my contract ended. So the decision was easy for me, as I didn't want to experience issues with a home button again.
I've got the 4G LTE. So far I've liked it but if I had the chance to do it over I would get a SGIII. I've had some annoying things happen to my LTE and although I love the beautiful screen I have a feeling I wouldn't have had those problems with the SGIII. The two main problems I've had are that the phone actually bent one day while in my pocket. It was minor and I bent it back straight but I think the upper portion of the phone above the kickstand is a major weak zone in the Aluminum unibody. My other issue is that the camera broke and I'm in the process of shipping it back to HTC for warranty repair. So at this point after owning the phone for 9 weeks I don't have much faith that the repaired product won't suffer same fate.

is tha sensation has still the landscape death grip issue? That is why it keep me holding back to get the sensation and instead got the Aamaze...
I've had the Sensation for about 6 months now (upgraded from N1). I picked up an Amaze 1 week ago and I am also trying to decide if I like it enough to make the switch...
Some observations:
1) I can't figure out how people are holding the Amaze that the protruding screen is a problem. I agree it's not the best design, but overall a non-issue for me.
2) I've noticed a bit of light bleeding up from the bottom of the screen which washes out darker colors. I'm not sure if this is a defect on just my unit?
Edit: I guess this is the known problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488861
3) The colors overall seem to be more saturated and warmer than on the Sensation's screen
4) The camera effects (like vignette and dots) are accessed through a very clunky menu where previews are not provided. Lame.
5) The 2nd camera is MUCH better and actually covered in the front glass, which means it is not CONSTANTLY covered in dust and dirt like the open one on the Sensation.
6) Scrolling around on webpages doesn't feel as smooth as on the Sensation. I keep trying them both side-by-side, but I can't really decide if this is actually true. Maybe the ICS update for the Amaze will help?
Also, when flicking the page up and down, it the Amaze doesn't scroll as fast - is this a setting somewhere perhaps?
7) The Amaze is SIGNIFICANTLY heavier feeling than the Sensation. I think you can feel the difference in thickness the most, despite the Amaze only being 1mm (?) thicker.
8) With the same moderate usage throughout the day, I feel like the Amaze has noticeably longer battery life.

I replaced my sensation with the amazing Amaze about 3 months ago. And I don't have any regret what so ever..sensation is a great phone but nothing like the Amaze...to me the different is like night and day. Or in another word the Amaze is a sensation on steroids... Lol.. The camera, the speed, sound, especially the speaker phone, screen, the over all quality is higher that's beside the solid feel in your hand. The only thing it lacks is the development as every one else mentioned but this is temporary and it's going to be over soon and you will have ton's of roms and mods for this phone...shortly.

i remember i bought the captivate when it first came out (it was soo cool back in the day) and development didnt even pick up till 1 year after. its bene like 2 years since launch and its the most developed phone in XDA i believe. wow. The amaze is simply better then the sensation. The sensation is older therefor has older hardware ,,, the 1GB ram will be noticably better in ICS and its just better to have .. i was going to switch for an S2X but i love the amaze's camera by far the best. i just hope we get sense 4.0 as this isnt that old of a device. Its relativley new (atleast here in canada)

LIES!!!!!! the SII may have better battery life, but overall the phone is crap lol
Now it may be the rampant HTC fanboy side of me, but i gotta say hold on here, why does having ICS make the GSII a better phone?
Inside their specs are almost identical, and to some the SAMOLED pentile screen (which IMO is a bit oversaturated and overrated) looks like crap.
Batterywise: what kind of battery is the GSII packing? either way battery life depends on how hard you hammer the phone, I keep my Amaze clocked down to about 1Ghz and i get pretty awesome battery life on it, upwards of 14 hours
Im supposed to get my amaze delivered today. Hope so. Ive had my gs2 for about a week. Its a very good phone. Takes a while to get used to the big screen. (Coming from g2x). I cant yet compare it to the amaze, but like i said, its avgreat phone. Battery is ok, not great. Blazing fast. ( same hardware as amaze). Ics is ok but not quit there yet. Im running juggernaut 5.0 gb and it works great. As of now it has much more dev support. Do what you like, but i say, if it aint broke, dont fix it.

I just turn it off when watching a movie or playing a game with lots of blacks.
As for which is better, its all personal preference. I prefer HTC someone else might prefer Samsung.
My friend at school as the SGII and also agree that the colors are over saturated, it just looks funny.
I have my amaze underclocked to 1.2ghz and I get around 14hrs of use. If I'm not playing games. And still no lag whatsoever.

You're gonna have to hold both devices in your hand and use them for a day or two to decide... But since you say you're a fan of HTC, you should probably keep the Amaze. Both devices, in my opinion, are on par, but if I were you, I'd go for the SGS2 in a heartbeat since it's more to my liking
Seeing as I left the GS2 for the Amaze I can say that i think I made the better choice. This phone is much more pocketable. We may have screen bleed from the bottom but that is an easy fix. The GS2 has blotches and streaks in the screen that cannot be fixed. The camera on the amaze is a lot better.
I like My Amaze and I will be keeping it to at least the fall for when my upgrade is available.
The amaze is garbage it has a horrible screen, washed out pics, battery life is a joke...i had mines for one day and turned that crap back in for a gs2, the gs2 isnt perfect it feels cheap cause of so much plastic but other than that and the camera everything beats the amaze
---------- Post added at 10:27 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:22 AM ----------
But I'm not here to bash anybody everybody has their own opinion, youtube reviews if that would help
Just hold both in your hand at a Tmo store and play with them, and decide which one you like best. For most people either phone is going to be a perfectly fine phone for everyday use, it all just comes down to personal preference.
About the same.
Some videos are better on sgs2,some are better on amaze.

Sorry HTC but you fail. Lets first start off by saying I was by your side in the beginning. But after awhile you realize how much of a dog the EVO is. Unfortunately most wont realize the magnitude of failure till you own a GS3.
It hurts my fingers typing this cause i was so anti samsung. The root of the failure is Sense and it's resource hogging ways. The broken multitasking is just a cover up from HTC to squeeze some performance out of a already sluggish phone. Just hitting the home button is a nightmare with all the loading it does.
HTC's failure rate has been abysmal, base on what I've seen and heard from Sprints corporate store in Burlington Massachusetts.
Im sure I might get flamed from a few people here, but I just wanted to vent my displeasure with HTC and it saddenings me watching this Titanic sink to the level of nokia.

I agree on the multitasking front, HTC should fix it and stop calling it an "intended feature". At the very least stop reffering to it as multitasking, HTC.
While I don't like Sense, you can't really blame HTC for it. Samsung does the same thing with Touchwiz. What we as customers should demand is either a way to disable these third party resource-hogs or petition them to release pure Android builds for their phones (which I believe HTC did for the Desire).
I doubt the above would happen and I refuse to purchase Samsung phones (based on horrible experiences I've had in the past) so what I am really hoping for is for the next Nexus phone to be build by HTC. Awesome hardware and pure Android software would be pure bliss.

No it is actually rock stable for stock, and still stable for AOSP. You will be stuck on GB and ICS until we get a developer to build us a kernel for JB Sense. Unless you want Cyanogenmod or AOKP.
Everything performs fast, it's not a HTC One but 1.5ghz is more than fast enough.
Try and get the phone for <180$ if you buy it.
Battery life is ok not bad but not excellent. My custom roms and other people's roms can help with that.
As for dev support we don't have as much as other phones but we are still going somewhere. Sorta.
Hope I helped.

Try and get the phone for <180$ if you buy it.
Battery life is ok not bad but not excellent. My custom roms and other people's roms can help with that.
As for dev support we don't have as much as other phones but we are still going somewhere. Sorta.
Hope I helped.

To be honest I wouldn't buy this phone any more, it's too old, and if you look through the forums many people have had bad luck with this phone (bad battery, random reboots, backlight bleed, squeaky back) not saying you will have all these issues, but odds are at least one of these issues will plague you. I was lucky and only had the back light bleed, but my cousin also got this phone on my suggestion and he was plagued with reboots no matter what Rom I tried putting on it, and after a while his started to charge extremely slowly (to the point that it was unusable while charging, as the phone lost charge faster). He ended up selling it and got a sensation. I would recommend you get an HTC one x, which you can get for around 200-210 dollars off swappa and even eBay (I just ordered 3 of them all mint condition with boxes and they costed me 200 on average, one was 175 (but without box), one was 210 and one was 217 but they had the original box. Good luck
I got my girlfriend an HTC one x about 7 months ago (found a great deal on craigslist for 130 dollars, the phone was complete mint with the original box also in mint condition, guess the guy didn't know what his phone was worth) and it truly is a very nice phone. Only gripe would be the storage but if you don't play a lot of games I find 16gb is enough storage for most needs (people argue about their 100gb music library but with Google play music their arguments fail, and who needs to really carry a year's worth of music with them every day...)

I loved my Amaze but I have moved on from it.
The negatives: Button Back light bleed, randon reboots (caused by a bad battery), battery life is not too great, not much accessory support, no JB Kernel, odd ball 11pin micro usb port (still able to use a regular micro usb tho)
Everything else is nice... screen quality, camera, speed, sound... dev support is little but its still kicking.
As for cons only the battery life sucks other than that the phone is great for me well hardware specs wise the phone is really good for the ongoing price comparing to some high priced low spec devices out there, but software wise it's not that good cuz we got stuck in ics, I mean officially.. But we have custom roms so yay

It is great gadget but not a good phone. Signal prob are too much to ignore . just search htc amaze network signal and you ll be amazed to see how many people ranting about the problem.

I find it to be a rather pleasing phone honestly. I came from an HTC One V with Virgin Mobile and wanted to try T-Mobile because it was $5 and actually had support for 4G where I live. I looked on Craigslist for a decent T-Mobile phone. I looked at Sensations and almost bought one, but then I stumbled on the Amaze. The way I looked at it, it looked like a Sensation 2.0; faster processor, more RAM, support for 42.2 HSPA+, and more storage. I was originally gonna buy it from a guy for $140, but he dropped it to $120 because his kid threw the case away. I've been using it since about March or April and haven't had a single issue with it, except for the button bleed, but it doesn't really bother me. I can't really say anything on battery since he gave it to me with a 1900 mAH Anker batter, but its been decent. So I guess there's my story of how my Amaze came to be. It's a great phone that I've never even heard of prior to buying it, and my hobby is watching reviews of phones just because. I think these days, you can probably get it for less than $150 easy. I'd say if you care about massive dev support then go with the Sensation, at the expense of a less powerful phone, if not, then go with the Amaze. We may not have the most devs, but the ones we do have are amazing (no pun intended) and extremely dedicated. I hope this helps with your decision.

Very amazing review about amaze but on side note once sports88 (developer) said sensation and amaze have same level of development except for number of roms where sensation is leading.

For button bleed use the mod that kills them, use energy tweaks to disable button lights, or use one of my roms. (All of them have button lights disabled).

So, the kickstand on my phone is shot. The nut on the back just spins and will not tighten causing the kickstand to flop around like a baby seal. Given some rebates, etc. when I got the phone, I did get Best Buy's protection plan. So, basically, they would swap the phone out for free - only one small problem. This phone isn't available in their warehouse. This leaves me with one of two options really:
1. Put up with the kickstand (I've resorted to putting a piece of tape over it and then just putting my phone in a case) until they get some in-stock at which point they would swap it out.
2. Take it in, and since they don't have any in stock, they would transfer me over to a Galaxy S3.
I don't know much about the S3 and how comparable it is to this phone. I guess I'm just curious if anyone else has any kickstand fixes or if they would swap their phone out for an S3 if they could...
If I were you, I'd just get the S3

Any particular reason why?
i have both.
the screen is terrible imo. put them side by side and the s3 looks blue.
there is some really good development happening on another forum for it though.
not sure about the development on here. dont really check.
how far from an upgrade are you?
if youre not far from upgrading and you plan on upgrading get the s3. it is worth a lot more on the skreet than the lte and you should have no problem selling it for $175 to 200.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the screen either (a couple guys in the office have then) but I'm not due for an upgrade until July next year.

I'd go with the S3. Bigger battery I'm pretty sure and its got more active devving going on. Only real downside is the screen. You can get a case with a kickstand.

Eh, I'm not worried about the kickstand. However, it does seem the general consensus is that the S3 has be more flourishing dev community.
I have to admit, I kinda like sense - that will be the only bummer. I don't like how long it takes to get updates though.
I really dislike HTC to be honest, this was my first and probably last. The development we get from devs is just incredible like Jamie and untz to name two. But generally development for Samsung is prolonged far after the device is considered obsolete. Hell my brother's Epic still has development.

Sense looks good, so does Touchwiz if you ask me. Took HTC way too long to get notification bar toggles in Sense

Keep in kind that HTC had notification toggles in phones from other carriers.
