I tried to add funds to my prepaid google wallet card today only to find out that I have to enter my social security number for them to verify my identity. I have added funds before and never had to do this. I called the the customer service number to find out what was going on and they told me that if I added funds a couple of times then I would have to verify my identity with my ssn. I told the woman that I didn't want to give them that information and she told me my only other option is to not use the prepaid card. This is just ridiculous that I have to give up personal information to use a PREPAID service.

I would only note that should you decide that if you're not happy with the service (as was I) and wish to close it out, they needed some form a ID in order to refund money held in the account.

Yeah I only have $1.50 left on it so I am not really worried about it. Google wallet prepaid card came loaded with $10 so I am $8.50 ahead of the game.

This is done for federal regulations...its not just google...all prepaid reloadable cards are like this...netspend also requires this to get a card other then a temp card

I didn't have to give them my ssn to add $ to the prepaid card. I don't remember being asked either

Mine started to do this as well however it doesn't ask me for my address and gets hung up once I enter my information...

Paypal made me do this also, they said there's some new law that makes the verify your identity to prevent money laundering to terrorists.
Except Paypal only needed it for people who transferred more than $2,000 through them.

Why would you add money to the prepaid card??? Now that wallet lets you use any credit card or debit card. It doesn't make since to load money on a prepaid card that takes weeks to get refunded back to you if you stop using wallet.

I agree that its federal regulation to have this data but they shouldn't request it via mobile, its too risky.
They should create a secure website for enrollment, one that the customer can verify and make the decision if they want to proceed

Before I decided that the technology isn't as bulletproof as I need it to be to use this on a regular basis, I thought it made perfect sense to use GW in the prepaid card mode. Seemed like a great way to buffer an account if fraudulent transactions on my plastic should happen. I didn't like the idea of having that kind of exposure on a credit or debit card, but keeping an amount of 'walking around' money on GW where the hit would be somewhat limited is very appealing. Too bad operationally the system is so flaky.

I'm hardly on top of every new law, but I do know that the only companies that are supposed to use your ssn to identify you are financial companies that need to report information to the irs, or government agencies. And not every company is even allowed to obtain and store your ssn.
Again, maybe this could have changed, but asking for ssn for prepaid card seems wrong and possibly illegal.

Incorrect. The USA Patriot Act requires all financial institutions to very identifying information about its customers or potential customers (like on an account application) including name, address, phone number, and social security number to prevent money laundering and acts of terrorism.
This is not unique to Google Wallet. As all financial institutions must comply prepaid card or not they are still financial transactions.

Why the buffer? Couldn't you lose your wallet and the same thing happens? There is zero exposure with credit/debit cards as financial institutions all offer fraud protection and billing dispute resolution protected under the Fair Credit Billing Act. The worry is overblown by most people.

Google Market/Play discontinued this!

I learned that Google has discontinued the "bill to your account" option. So, from now on, debit/credit cards are the only accepted forms of.paynent on Market/Play. I can use my credit card, but billing to the account was more convenient, and interest free. LOL
Edit: AT&T confirmed this today.

His signature says he has a note. So good assumption.
However.... I never used that option anyway. Although credit cards are interest free as long as you pay for what you buy within that billing cycle and have no debt on it when a new billing cycle begins

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
FYI, you should only use credit cards when purchasing online. CC have more consumer protections built-in, for starters. Plus if someone gets hold of your debit card info you'll be out CASH and not just a credit balance for up to a month. Think of all the checks you could bounce. And you'll be w/o the card itself for up to 2 weeks while they take their time getting you one with a new account number.
Just went through this on a credit card that had nearly $1000 in fraudulent charges - and since I knew this info ahead of time it was little more than a big annoyance instead of a huge problem.
This would happen to me when flashing different roms, what worked before was to uninstall the updates to the market, force close it, clear data, then reboot with wifi off. Typically this would bring the option back. Since google play came however this stopped working for me which sucks, since working for AT&T they give me a hundred dollar allowance each month. If I find a new fix I'll post it here.

So my Evo came in the mail today, after I canceled my order after hearing they were being held by customs. Sprint canceled my line, and is processing my refund, they said it should take around 6 days, which is 3 days from now. They must've just sent out all of the packaged Evos. Either way, I don't have a contract with Sprint, and I'm playing with the new Evo here! Anyone on the same boat as me?

When I canceled my Sprint order *slaps head* and went with Amazon instead, Sprint told me that in all likelihood they'll probably still ship me my phone. Wish they actually did this to me. I must have canceled it far enough out where they didn't.
I probably would have kept the phone and paid full price if they did.

The exact same thing happened to me, and I am staring at this thing knowing it's too good to be true... I tried to find out where sprint covers this scenario in their terms and conditions but couldn't find anything. Also I didn't see any preorder cancellation policy. I'd assume they will find out.
I canceled my order just before the customs fiasco began, same day just a couple hours before the news got out. The girl who helped me said I needed to hold while she verifies the phone hasn't shipped, and she came back saying everything is done my order is canceled.

This is the reason that they stopped canceling preorders. Their system is messed up, and even if the order was canceled, the phone would ship. I'd say hold on to it for a while, see what happens

This is exactly what would seem to make sense, but it takes into assumption that they have the right to enforce it. Frankly, Sprint "should" have this right. But that has to be in writing for them to act, no? They must have authorization to withdraw funds from your account to initiate any charge. Without your express consent, they would need to prove that you agreed to terms that allow them to make further charges in given circumstances... i.e. unexpected circumstances causing errors regarding canceled preorders. Terms that hold me responsible, even if the error is neither Sprint's nor my own fault.
I'm not saying that I think this means is clearly have the right to keep the phone and Sprint is screwed because this is a unprecedented issue affecting a very narrow field of customers... and I'm prob gonna have to send it back. I'm saying that I'm trying to do my homework because I know they have to be able to back up taking action regardless if it's their fault or not that I still received it.
And so far, I haven't seen any clauses that this falls into... notice I said "so far" because this "should" be covered somewhere. I wish I knew someone who worked for sprint, like a cs manager or something who would know how this honestly works.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2
The honest thing to do would be to just call Sprint and ask them what they would like you to do with it. I would've refused the delivery from UPS in the first place...Okay I lie, so I would've probably opened it too.

Agreed. I just saw a news story where 69k was deposited accidentally into some guys account. He spent most of the money and is now in for some serious felony charges. I'm not trying to be a Debbie downer or a sober Salley. But if you try to get away with this without 700 dollars in your account... I wish you the best of luck.
Sprint will just send your info to a collections company. Happend to me when I got a replacement razr with rogers. AT&T new family share

ATT came out with their family share plans today...pretty sweet for those of use who use alot of data or ESPECIALLY those who have ghost lines. It is a base price for the amount of data, all plans automatically have unlimited talk and text. You pay per data package depending on what you think you and whoever is on your plan would need and then a price for each smart phone. For example:
(these are made up but show what it will look like)
4GB=90 plus a &20 charge for each smartphone...its like verizons pretty much...
so a person with four lines and only two smartphones is only looking at a $130+tax charge a month instead of $180...good stuff from at&t
should save people money
Posted this in xda general but wanted to share with my note peeps too :laugh::good: <3
If I remember correctly its more then 20 to add a smart phone. I think it was more like 40 - 35 depending on which plan you chose. It went down the higher the plan you choose. Unfortunately, won't be saving any money for my situation.

Alright, my wife and I have an older plan still. I have the Note and she has the Iphone 4s. Right now are monthly bill (if there are no extras) is about $123 a month. That's 700 minutes/200 text each/250mb data each. We've had AT&T for a while so we have some old options.
I'd like to have unlimted text and higher data (1GB would be plenty for me), so in the end is it worth updating to this shared package? I think the basic package ends up being 130+tax? Am I correct?
With a gig to share and two smart phones with unlimited text and call we are looking at 130$ which isn't bad because you get lot more out of it for $7

whats a "ghost line"?
I dont understand the prices. Some places say that the additional cost for smart phones is for the 2nd+ phone on the plan, but some places it says each smart phone.
If its 30 for each phone, going for the 10gb plan with 2 smart phones would put me at $180 before taxes. I currently spend $180~ for a 2gb and unlimited data plans.
If its 30 for the 2nd phone then I could actually save money since I rarely go over 4-5gb these days and my wife uses almost nothing. I could even add my ipad2 and only spend $160 per month. I dont know if I want to give up my unlimited tho.

Yeah, then that line has no features placed on it. Basically a "ghost"
I've got two on my account currently. New plan would have those lines go from 9.99/mo to 30/mo

Thanks for the heads up!!!
Sounds cool... I called AT&T after reading this to verify to what I saw on their site HERE and I was told late August this should be available. Currently I pay $302 for 5 smart phones on AT&T with the family plan with limited minutes. With this new plan I will be able to save another $20 a month and not have to share minutes at all. The down side is that I would have a lower limit on my data. I now have 3GB per line and the plan that would help me is the $120 plan that allows us all to share 10GB which is 2GB a piece on average. But I'm sure that will be ok though.
I am disappointed. I have a wife and a teenage daughter. Was hoping the share plan would be a little more reasonable to get the daughter and the wife some more data. Not swaying me from giving up my unlimited plan though.

So you pay an extra $10 for each phone and maintain 2 data plans just to sell 2 extra smart phones per year?
Thats $60 per month more ($660 per year) and then $200-300 per upgrade so essentially you buying an extra 2 smart phones per year for $530-630 each and reselling them?
This doesnt make sense unless your able to use 2 dumb phones in their place to eliminate the data plans. Does AT&T allow that?

Verizon LTE usage........

I know Verizon real mad right now......

Hehe I'm at 106gb right now thank you unlimited data

Wow!! I'm on limited now.. 4 gigs a month.. I'm at 2 gigs so far.. I hate it and hate that I had to leave the unlimited.. But my old Razr flip phone was dead and dated..
id be careful going over that mythical 100gb barrier on a regular basis as verizon theoretically can cancel your contract for abuse of network (or something like that)
and you will see the occasional thread for verizon phones from time to time where people post warnings from verizon for it
im sure some would actually *like* getting their contract cancelled so they could jump ship w/ no etf though
And you guys are the reason Verizon got rid of their unlimited plan.

Out of curiosity, what do you do to use so much data? I'm on unlimited as well, but I rarely even break my 2GB mark (I am on wifi at home and at work a lot so I know I'm lower than I would be otherwise). If I weren't on wifi as much as I am I can't imagine I'd ever break 10GB, if even that high.

I knew someone would say this... Please stop trolling. I'm on limited as well. Greed is the reason why not excessive usage. Using your logic you should cap your home broadband... Cause you're the reason its expensive... LTE has a huge footprint and can handle tons of users... Its greed don't be dumb.

Home broadband is capped for most of the US, usually at 250 gigs.
And if it's greed, then why am I paying less for data now. If it was greed wouldn't everyone be paying more?

How are you paying less? It was 30 for unlimited now its 30 for 2gb... Cutting unlimited and charging the same for it is greed technically less for more considering the cost per data ratio.

Also.. I don't think most home broadband is capped. I've been with four different service providers and go way over that every month. I think I know of one or two that cap. This is minus colleges of course. It may be area specific though that I don't know.

Exactly. They dropped unlimited when there were very few LTE phones. It was merely a money issue, not a network abuse issue. They knew an influx of users would be coming to Verizon with the launch of the iPhone and it was an easy way to make truckloads of money.

Please explain how you pay less? It was $30 for unlimited. It is now $30 for 2GB. How in any way shape or form is that less money? You are charged the same amount for less data.
You may be paying less for voice and text, but not data.
And I do believe only AT&T and maybe Time Warner cap home usage.

yeah verizon clearly didnt feel the need to be as competitive with incentives to keep customers from leaving once it had its own iphone
i think tiered/family plans were probably going to happen on vzw regardless of the iphone the following things changing would probably not have if they didnt work it out w/ apple
my verizon customers annual upgrades (the loss of this almost made me leave verizon)
regular upgrades now at a full 24 months vs 20
as for broadband caps its provider specific for sure...(ironically) we have verizon fios at home and there are no caps

I think alot of places have a soft 250gb cap. I've heard that Comcast does. Supposedly at that point you are supposed to start seeing slower speeds or something. This is purely based of memory btw.
As for the how is he paying less? I know my family plan went down in price once we went to the family share plan by about 20-30$ a month. So that may be what he is talking about.
You are paying less for voice and text, not data tho. If I jumped on a share plan right now, yea I'd save $20, but I'd also be stuck with 2-4GB a month. If I got the 10GB to share plan, I'd pay more than I do now for 3 lines (2 with unlim data, 1 dumb phone) and that's without overages haha, which I would do by 20+GB a month. When you have kids and you take HD video of them and it uploads to 2 different places and you stream HBO, Netflix, Youtube on 2 phones... lol, I'd burn through 10 in a week.
I typically rock like 10 to 15 gigs a month, and i don't even tether. jeez!

No Google Wallet Support (Removed Ability)

Edit 4/11/14: It appears we have a case of ill informed customer service employees or they implemented the feature at the last minute. Tap to pay is confirmed to work with Google Wallet. Thanks everyone for the confirmation.
Not sure how many of you use Google Wallet or would like to, but it appears T-Mobile has once again removed Google Wallet Tap to Pay through NFC functionality. This is a real shame since Kitkat was supposed to make it easier to get around the carriers secure element restrictions. It appears that T-Mobile has disabled Tap to Pay for Google Wallet due to ISIS (failure) once again. I got confirmation from T-Mobile support from a couple channels stating such.
If anyone is interested in using it, may not be a bad idea to tweet @JohnLegere and @Tmobile about your disgust of being anti-competitive and in my opinion very uncharacteristic of the "Uncarrier" movement.

That may be true, buy they do sell the Nexus 5 in stores that is completely capable of the feature. Yeah, I understand that they are probably under agreement with Google not to tamper with the software on Nexus devices, but it also proves the point that they CAN sell devices in store that support Google Wallet, they just opt not to do so and cater to ISIS. In my opinion, this is anti-competitive and should be stopped. (Long time coming)
What is ISIS?
I don't use GW often, but enough that I'd miss it.

GW Tap-to-Pay set up just fine for me, though ISIS didn't. Not that I want to use ISIS anyways (got an offer for free Jamba Juice for a month, figured what better time to finally try Jamba Juice). Haven't tested it yet, but from what I can see it looks perfectly fine.

All you have to know ISIS (touch payment system) is a major flop. In addition, it shan't work with rooted phones. Moreover, you're charged for transaction fee (Google Wallet doesn't charge).
Exactly. Works fine for me. All it needed was an update of Google play services

Isis doesn't have fees. The main difference is that unless you have one of a few credit cards from specific banks you have to use a prepaid Amex Serve card. This means with Isis you have to remember to load money onto the Serve card while Google Wallet uses a virtual debit card and then charges your linked card so you don't have to load money in advance.
