Just purchased the GS3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just purchased the GS3 and I need some direction on where to go so I can root my phone, the latest kernel, odin, and the latest cwm.

If you are on sprint and you want to brick your phone then by all means flash whatever you want from here, otherwise go to the sprint forum.

If you're talking about the TracFone variant of this phone that is available directly through StraightTalk, then this isn't correct. (if you meant the i9100G. There is no such phone as the i9000G)
The TracFone variant that StraightTalk offers directly is actually model number SGH-S959G. It seems that it is most closely similar to the SGH-I777, and is likely just that; a re-numbered, re-issue of that same phone (for AT&T) specifically for StraightTalk.
If I'm right, and you do end up getting this phone, then do NOT flash anything from the i9100G forum to that device. It will at best, not work and you'll have to re-flash a stock firmware for that model... or at worst, you will brick it.
That was very helpful. I've decided to just get a GSM nexus and toss a similar in it. Thank you so much tougj

If you carefully follow directions, then it's never really scary.
One click root apps are pretty old now, they don't work on newer devices, so you'll probably have to "get your hands a little dirty" of you want to root

Probably, just don't pay too much. I'd say $15 is MAX, really don't want to get ripped off. Also, make sure you have some sort of "warranty" like if they brick it then they owe you a refund and full price of the tablet

[Q] somewhat new to rooting

hey guys, I am somewhat new to rooting. I have rooted the strat, but that was useless as I'm sure you all know. I am trying to root my thunderbolt using the all-in-one tool but when it tries to reboot into recovery, it shows "!" inside a triangle. can anyone help me here?
Do you have ICS or Gingerbread

?? 4.0.4 not sure which one that is
Its ICS, if you go to Santods forum. Infectedrom.com you can find the way there but there's more to it than the all in one. Its a little harder but not much. You do have to make an account to view the forums though, but that's not really a hindrance.

you need to unlock your bootloader before anything, you can do that at htcdev.com
Thanks!! Excellent referral! Just wish I could find a simple link like that for roms...lol

Warning

I have been reading thorough the returning to stock post in lg general Dev. A lot of people are softbricking or bootlooping by flashing OTA an edited recovery.
Before you flash any OTA you must return to stock.
Just a word of warning. If I'm misinformed someone please correct me but that's what I got from reading.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm sure anyone that would be looking in the development threads would be looking for development so they might pass over this thread. In turn they will end up 'softbricking' their device because they didn't return to stock before hand.
You should have posted this is the correct place.
Now everyone's phones are going to be messed up.

stuck on recovery
I just stuck on recovery after OTA, now I guess I have to unroot?, what that OTA does anyway? I was looking for more information but there is nothing out yet
Go look at the returning to stock post in general section. There is more instruction there.

if you can get in recovery, you are fine. Just have to clear some files and it will boot fine. It's "soft bricked" because it keeps trying to apply the OTA.
Sprint has an OTA?

If you have a nandroid backup, you should restore it. As soon as you restore it, you should flash back to stock. Then after your phone is clean, take the OTA and then root.

I'm not sure I've just seen lg in general has had updates being pushed.
However if we are on stock rooted ROM, shouldn't we be able to push the OTA? I'm not that versed in this.

Safe thing to do is to always flash back to stock to avoid any issues.
EDIT: Don't quote me on this but according to a Sprint G2 user in the thread below that if you have the stock recovery and didn't flash TWRP, you should be able to take the OTA without having to flash back to stock.

Yeah anyone that's going to be modding phones should get used to not accepting ota updates, luckily it doesn't take long until roms are updated

Lol I imagine that depends on the rom developer, if not than a rom will eventual get released with the newest software, always a matter of time

Yup on stock recovery right now . Gonna hold off tho because I've been reading that someone is making an update we can flash over top with TWRP. I'll just figure out what I want to do once everything is clear and settled. I'd love some better/stronger signal.

Good Info
Thanks for the post. I myself was applying the software downloads for my D800 At&t Variant. I am currently stuck right now and your explanation helps make a little sense of what is happening to my phone. I was stuck at the cm boot animation and tried to do a wipe and restore and a bunch of other stuff and nothing was working. Decided to flash back using the software from that thread, however the flash was listed as successful, but upon getting to the main screen of the os, keyboard doesn't come up, no signal or wifi, then after a minute or two the phone will just reboot. My thoughts are either that I have the OTA software missing key components from the original stock, or my efs is shot, in which case I am concerned. Just got this phone and would love to fix it. I will hunt for original software.
I had done a full lg stock backup through CWM and then exported that to my computer. Would that contain my efs info?
Thanks

[Q] How to unroot?

Decided to trade out my S4 mj7 for an HTC one. Simply can't stand the inability to flash custom recoveries/ROMs/tweaks. That being said I need to unroot my S4 but haven't been able to find a real how to on it. I would greatly appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction to do so. Thank you.

Did you try a full unroot from supersu? Also flashing the latest odin tar should make your phone seem like new.

Truthfully I was unaware that there was a full unroot option in supersu. I'll re-enable the apps I have frozen, remove root apps and try that. Thanks
