i have a thunderbolt and just dropped the damn thing and broke the lcd and digi, i was wondering how much you think the phone is worth for parts? i wanna sell it. if this is in the wrong thread, im sorry. let me know thank you
32gb sd card, batt cover, and battery for 100 would be a steal.
You might be able to fix it, I did that to my incredible and it worked great afterwords. Not sure if any digitizers are out yet though for it.

no insurance? id still take it to verizon and say the screen went out on its own or something to see if they can send you a replacement. dont mention you dropped it and you should be fine

You can buy lcd and digitizer for less than $40 on ebay. Don't know how hard to change out but probably guide on youtube or google it.

Kinda new to rooting and stuff but does anyone know how Best Buy handles returns/exchanges for androids?
I rooted my phone and unrooted it, took out superuser and did a factory reset. My main concern is whether or not they would put my phone in download mode to check the download counter.
most places will not put it in DL mode to check that.

Did you buy it from best buy?
Also, are you returning it or exchanging it for a new one. If you are exchanging it, you can buy a jig to reset the flash counter for $7. OR, simply lie your teeth out. I've exchanged cracked Xbox games with no insurance, got a new iPod 3rd Gen after saying my 2nd Gen broke, and I even got them to fix my laptop for free. They're gullible, just say you tried to fix it yourself.

They might, better to be safe than sorry with the jig. If you don't wanna wait for the jig to ship to your house and they check your flash counter, tell them you went to a cell phone technicien and they told you to flash something.

When I took back my first GS2 to Best Buy, the girl didn't even turn the phone on...
And I had SuperUser in the menu still as this was before Entropy had the flash back to stock without root available.

I exchanged a rooted and romed captivate at best toward the purchase of a galaxy s2 (got 99 bucks). They didn't seem to care, though the employee did notice it looked a little different and thought it was cool!
Your situation is a little different. You could flash back to stock just in case. I doubt they would give you the runaround. They probably just send it off somewhere, anyway, and check that it is not physically damaged. They did want to make sure I had wiped it of personal data, which I had through wipe data/factor reset in recovery.

I'm in agreement with him. I would do it to. Even though I'm 98% sure they won't check (at least in my local Best Buy).
I work at best buy and no we don't check the phone for root or instability. As long as you can show its on we will take it Graphics cards too. We never check if its actually broken so i say mine is broken every 8 months (shifty eyes)

Of course the pros at bestbuy wont check or have no clue. But there's a chance when the phones sent back to samsung they will be able to tell. Then they will go by the IMEI and back thru the carrier to void your warranty and charge you the full amount of the phone on your next bill. It's not like it hasn't happened to some.

Lmao. Where do you people come up with this stuff? Making stuff up to misinform someone isn't very nice.
I just returned my atrix at best buy for the buy back program and its bootloader is unlocked. I got the thrill 4g but after a week of cool 3d I realized they are never gonna get past froyo and I kind of had a headache...so I returned it..I put the stock recovery back on it but not the firmware...basically, if u have the buy back program, geek squad looks at it...I couldn't are what he was doing when he said he was giving it a functionality test but I'm 90 percent sure he was just turning it on....and I was fine...now when you make a return, it just goes to customer service...the lady asked me to turn my thrill on for her because she didn't know how...she saw that it booted and I wrapped all the cords up really nice and she didn't even charge a restocking fee or anything ...so just make sure it turns on and you should be fine...I am now a proud owner of a SG II...at least until the end of the month if nothing better comes out..good luck

I actually work for best buy's Geek Squad and I can verify that no one anywhere with the exception of a nerd who is trying to prove his girth will bother to check if it is rooted, and even if it is they will still most likely (85%+) exchange the device for you.

we abandoned the restocking fee about 6 months ago...
dunno why there's so much bad blood around best buy.... I have a right to hate it after working there for the last 3 years.... but I really don't get the negativity.
Sure the computer department is stupid and some management at certain locations suck. But all in all its a decent electronic retail shop with some good people working there and for the most part we do try our best to please our clients.
Yea, I don't see how best buy is any worse than any other retail electronics store, and I have gotten several price matches there. I've also had good luck with returns. Oh well, every body has their own experiences, situations and opinions.

-sigh- almost 4 weeks of ownership and already having an issue. I just noticed these 2 highly visible white dots (to the left) just above of the capacitive buttons on my lcd. Only visible on white background though but i call tmo and instructed me to get to a local store so they can have one of the reps to look at it before replacement (awesome). I'll take a pic of it later prior to visiting the store.
sorry for the image quality but here it is. I tried taking a few shots of and this happened to be the best shot. What do you guys think caused this?
i dont see it. use ms paint to circle them with red. i seriously dont see anything

ooooooohhhhhhhhhh i see this now. my friend has a large spot like this on his Evo 3d. comes from too much pressure being put there on the screen. at some point that part of the screen got pushed very hard.
Mine has the same issue! And this is one that I got via warranty exchange >_> There's no way in hell I'm paying another $10 for a warranty exchange, though.

yeah its those 2 highly visible glares or dot when you look really close to it.. i've taken it using my digital camera (which obviously takes crappy image btw) and although it may be hard to see by others on the monitor - it is really visible in person. I'm still a little confused as to how this developed.

it's been taken care of and the replacement device is on its way... thankfully it was still covered by warranty. Not sure why it wouldn't be since i just got the phone 4 weeks ago lol
which leads me to my next question.... In regards to warranty that is. Is it worth it to add a PHP (Premium Handset Protection) bundle? I mean, i remember when it used to be $5.99 (i believe) and i just noticed after ordering a replacement device - Tmo added that feature on my plan. Current cost is $7.99 which is still not bad but is it really worth it shelling out 8 bucks for something that can be prevented? I'm pretty anal when it comes to protecting my device (thanks to protective TPU case) and i hardly drop it by accident. However, "****" does happen to anyone when you least expect it. What do you guys think?
It can be worth it in case something happens like theft or out of warranty. But generally they offer you crap and try to say it's comparable.
Did they say you still have option for insurance? Generally unless you get it when the phone was new you can't add it on later

That's what i'm thinking but no, the rep never said anything or made any suggestions as far as adding it on my plan. I check my account frequently and that was the only time i discovered that it was added the day the replacement transaction was made. However, she did mention that even though my device was still covered by warranty, i was charged with $20 for device exchange since i didn't have the PHP feature added to my plan versus $5 bucks if i had it. -shrugs- eh its whatever. Atleast i know i'll have a brand spanking new device in a couple of days and HOPEFULLY.. yes.. hopefully... the annoying screen bleed on the bottom (normal build issue) with the device won't have it. lol
i just started a 2 year with tmobile and got the amaze for free. im wondering if this was a bad idea. i dont like the one phone because it lacks a dedicated camera button and some other stuff I dont like about it (its too thin actually). worst case I cancel for 200 and use this phone on straight talk until a better phone comes out I can start a new 2 year with.

that's a good point too... I too recently just switched from Individual plan to family plan (even though I'm the only one who's truly going to be using both devices) because i wanted this device (amaze) ever since its debut. Not a fan of One series either because of.. well.. a few things that i've come to expect on a high end device which lacks of... availability to expand storage, option to pull battery, dedicated cam shutter. To stay on point - isn't there a policy or something that after you cancelled your service there's a 1-3 month waiting period again before you can sign up???.. -shrugs-
Hello S II community,
Some guy is selling his S2 really cheap, cause the cellphone suddenly became super super Slow, he cant do anything apparently so he is selling it like 40% off. He is claiming is only android problem, that updating the Android will fix it, but i dont believe it so much (2.3.4 Android version).
As knowlers of S II, what would you suggest me?
Buy it and then do a clean firmware reinstall. That'll solve the problem, and you'll get the phone real cheap.

I too would very much ask u to check for water damage. My moto xt502 used to be slow after water damage. And then i started facing new problems day by day. Calls drop randomly after a few seconds and the phone used to lag.
Carry a memory card with the official update on it and flash it with the new update and check whether it still does the same. If it does, chuck it. Is he local?
buy it and install resurrection remix - it will be gr8
Buy a 2nd hand phone & not know exactly how the previous owner has treated it ?
Put it this way, you get what you pay for (I.E expect a lot of problems with it).
So i dropped my s3 today... well the day i dont have the otter box i drop it, and the screen crack making the phone not responsive and then the screen turned all blue

I picked up my s3 in march for 325$

Better go and ask them about it as I haven't really encountered bringing in a phone for repair. And if you ask me if it's really worth it to repair a phone for almost half the price when you bought it... well... I think i'll pass and just get a new one because you'll encounter more issues afterwards. Of course it's a different issue when you send it Samsung for warranty issues.

If you take it to a Samsung supported repair shop they will know its under warranty by the imei and serial number. You wont even need to have the reciept if you got it from someone else.Same happened to me once.If you want to replace the screen yourself then buy one on ebay for 140 bucks and do it yourself with a video tutorial from youtube. Its not that hard mate.
Ive changed a few screens for friends with ones from ebay and they are perfectly good and dont have any problems at all.Run perfectly and you save heaps too.

If its under waranty it should be free.Otherwise get a screen from ebay for 140 and fix it yourself and then try and sell the phone for 250.
250 + the 60 you saved will be 310 to go to an S4 at least mate.Id see if its covered first and then you will have a working phone to sell + 200 bucks.

Yeah mate all warranty coverage is free if its something like a hardware issue. If you drop it and they can tell then its up to them but if you dont have any marks on the side that makes it look like it has been dropped then just say that it wont start for some reason.
The bad thing is if it has been rooted and flashed and you havent reset the binary counter. Then if they see that they will most likely send you a letter asking you to pay cos that will mean you have lost the warranty.

Yeah mate if they know its the screen from an accident then they wont fix it.If you want to purposely brick your phone and say it has SDS (sudden desth syndrome) thats up to you but you may want to just fix it yourself if you cant find a non-samsung store that will do it for cheap..meaning screen + labour maybe 200 bucks.
Better to start looking at youtube videos.
