FIXED!Help! Pretty much bricked, how to restore? On ICS - Motorola Droid RAZR

Here's the story:
I was on the .215 ICS update.
I was trying to watch the meteor shower last night, tried using Start Chart, then Sky Map, then several compass apps, and came to the conclusion that the sensor didn't seem to be working.
I thought I could reflash the original .211 file using Matt's utility, so I tried option 9 a couple times, which did nothing. I then used #2, which did something. When I was prompted to reflash .211...which was still on my sd card, something didn't take.
So here's where I'm at: Holding all 3 buttons will give me a quick flash and the moto dual core flash screen for about a minute or two, but that's it. No recovery, no fastboot. I'm guessing I managed to remove all the firmware.
I've dl'd the fastboot files and attempted to use RSD, but it's not seeing the phone. Drivers have been installed, and the drives are showing in the left side panel (with my comp, my docs etc...), however I cannot open them either.
Any suggestions? I'm guessing I'm pretty much f'd here.

Thanks for the reply, but I need some clarification. This option still requires being able to get into fastboot, which I cannot. Is there something I'm missing.?

Yes you need to get back to the boot loader menu it's still there. I'm pretty sure you should be able to force it off with the power button the hold all three buttons then follow these instructions
Getting back to .211:
This is a fairly simple process, but not as simple as getting back to .211 from .214.
If you are new to this, please fully read all the directions before starting this process. Remember, check how much battery you have.
1) Download Matt's Droid Razr Utility 1.81 from the link above.
2) Extract the files from the .zip (Creates DroidRazrUtility1.81 folder)
3) Go into the DroidRazrUtility folder and start the DroidRazrUtility batch file
4) At the Batman logo, press any key to continue.
5) At the next menu, select option "1" (Fastboot Restore 6.16.211 (ICS 4.0.4 Official OTA Software)) by typing 1 and pressing enter.
** DO NOT PRESS ANYTHING AT THE NEXT SCREEN UNTIL STEP 10**
6) Attach your phone to your PC with a USB cable.
7) Power down your phone
8) While phone is off, hold down both volume keys (up+down) and the power key.
9) Use the Volume Down key to select "AP Fastboot" and then use the Volume Up key to select it.
10) On the DroidRazrUtility, press any key to continue.
11) Keep an eye on your phone, it will turn off and on again.
12) Follow the on screen instructions and press any key why your phone's display turns on.
13) Repeat Steps 11-12 one more time
** .211 install should take around 5-10 minutes **
14) When the screen asks if you want to wipe data, hit any key to continue OR exit the program to KEEP DATA.
15) Tap the power key to bring you out of AP Fastboot, then it should power down.
16) Turn on your phone to see a screen of an Android with his chest open. Wait.

Thanks for your response. I actually got some help from someone on another forum, and he was able to make a suggestion that really cinched the fix. Holding all three buttons was not working to get to the fastboot menu, as it would flash, be blank, go to the moto splash screen, and go black again. What he suggested was holding vol down and power until it flashed, then hitting both vol keys. This brought up the fastboot menu, and I was a happy boy. From there it was as simple as running option 1 on the utility.

I have kind of the same problem, my phone is stucked in fastboot screen flashed failed. Will this method fix my phone?? And also I couldnt find any link for the download. Can you post the link again?

Bricked! PLEASE HELP!

Okay this is what happened. I own the razr maxx and i got a little impacient and decided to download the leaked .210 4.0.4 motorola ota. That went fine and i was running that for 4 days. Then i wanted to go back to stock 2.3.6 so i used the Mats Utility 1.6 to do so i let it do its thing and i came back and i turned on the phone. It booted up to the M logo and then a couple seconds later the screen turns black. I really need help on this. I have tried using RSD light and flashing the stock rom but it says flash failed. I can boot into stock recovery and everything else.
Can someone help?

Once on .210, there is no going back to GB (2.3.6).....Thinking you are probably screwed. Might be able to reflash .210 or .211
You can try and flash back, but future reference heed the warnings.

I was in the same boat but in order to get recovery I had Vol+ Down for quite a bit maybe 40 sec. It flashed a bar. Here was the catch. if I continued to depress the power button plus V0l+ and Vol- I git the black screen The trick is to release power and depress Vol+ & Vol- when it shuts down. From there you can get to recovery etc.
If i wanted to go back to .210 how do i go along doing so?

5. Copy the update file and the .crc to /cache
6. Open /cache in a file browser of your choosing that will prompt you which application to use instead of opening the .zip file itself (ES File Explorer seems most popular)
7. Tap on the .zip and open it with ROM Manager
8. Don't check anything in the popup and reboot recovery
9. It will flash and finish
10. Done! I recommend factory resetting again here. Reroot if you want.
If you're on a previous ICS leak, above .79
- PUT THE .206 UPDATE FILE ON YOUR EXTERNAL SD CARD FIRST.
You will not be able to use your RAZR to put the files on the SD card after you begin. Please do so beforehand.
- Open the Droid Razr Utility 1.6
- Turn your phone off, & then turn it back on holding VOL DWN and PWR to boot into AP Fastboot
- Select Fastboot to .181 in the Utility & follow the onscreen directions
- Let it complete. There will be quite a few errors, don't panic - this is normal.
You are now on what we coined "Psuedo-.181" - some weird hybrid of GB and ICS files. Your phone will not boot at this point.
- Open the unstick ICS tool
- Choose the newest (.20X) kernel
- Let it install, and reboot.
Because of this kernel upgrade, you are now able to flash ICS again... even a later version.
- Turn your phone off
- Hold VOL DOWN + VOL UP + PWR, then use VOL DWN to go to "Recovery" and VOL UP to select it
- Press VOL DWN + VOL UP to bring up the menu
- Navigate to "Apply update from external SD"
- Select the .20X zip file you downloaded.
- *IF IT FAILS THE FIRST TIME, TRY THIS PARAGRAPH AGAIN*
And now you're on the new ICS!
If you want root afterwards:
- Turn on your phone and let it boot normally
- Set everything up, and then turn on USB debugging
- Turn off your phone
- Hold VOL DWN + PWR to boot into AP Fastboot mode again
- Open the UnstickICS tool on your computer again
- Install the .85 kernel
- Turn your phone off
- Hold VOL DWN + VOL UP + PWR, then use VOL DWN to navigate to BP Tools, and VOL UP to select it
- Your phone should boot normally.
- Open the Droid Razr Utility 1.6 and select Root ICS.
- Follow the onscreen directions, pressing a button when it finishes rebooting, 3x.
- Turn your phone off again.
- Hold VOL DWN + PWR to boot into AP Fastboot again
- Use UnstickICS to flash the kernel of the version you want to upgrade to again
- Reboot
You need to do this, because the 4.0.4 kernel is not vulnerable to any root exploits. Going back to a previous kernel (in this case, 4.0.3) will allow you to exploit and obtain root, and then upgrade back to 4.0.4.
If you have any questions, I'll be glad to help.

I am also wondering why there are so many threads like this even each posted leak is marked that here is no way back to 2.3.6. with many exclamation marks....

[UPDATED] Manual ICS "OTA" guide

This is an updated copy of my original guide (located HERE) with easier to follow formatting as well as solutions to known issues when attempting to use this guide.
NOTE: This guide is long and very detailed, yet in no way complicated. I put as much information as I felt would be necessary to safely guide others through the process. Don't feel overwhelmed by the length, but do realize that in the end it is entirely up to you to execute the operation correctly. Proceed with caution if you feel this may be too much for you.
Also, some users can get away with skipping some steps while others can't. Before you begin, understand that you may need to perform a factory reset, while others may not.
MAKE SURE YOU READ EVERYTHING BEFORE REPLYING WITH AN ISSUE
How to manually install Ice Cream Sandwich OTA update onto your RAZR / MAXX
These instructions will allow you to upgrade your stock "6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US" Motorola Droid RAZR / RAZR MAXX to the OFFICIAL OTA Update. I am not responsible for anything you do to your phone.
If you are rooted, you may need to un-root. I personally suggest that you unroot before continuing to avoid any possible issues that may arise due to being rooted. If you wish to re-root afterwards you can. If you've rooted your device, then you should already know how (or be able to find out how) to un-root.
Prerequisites:
50% or higher battery charge*
A Windows PC
Your micro-USB cable to link phone and PC
Stock "6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US" phone. This can be checked via Settings>About Phone> "System Version"
All files mentioned in the guide below.
A wall charger that you know for a fact will charge your phone (only required in special cases)
* You may want to consider charging more than 50% due to:
Some users having to use the RAZR Utility multiple times to successfully flash over the ICS Recovery (not ICS itself)
Some users having to perform the system update multiple times before it succeeds
Some users not following directions, thereby running into problems while letting their battery drain to an unsafe level
Before we begin, I am going to explain why this process isn't just a "copy/paste a file to your SD-card and update" affair.
When you download the update from Verizon through the "OTA" (Over-The-Air) process, your phone is instructed, via Verizon, to initiate the update. Since you are here, you obviously have not received the update via that process, hence your phone has not been instructed to initiate the update. This process will force the phone to initiate the update.
LET THERE BE ICE CREAM SANDWICH!
Using your computer, download the update from here:
http://www.goiww.com/xbot.html?task=weblink.go&id=29
The update will be named "Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip". The file name may be confusing since it contains "6.12.181" and not "6.16.211", but don't worry. The reason for this is because Motorola/Verizon named the update based on what version you are coming FROM, not going to. The file is around 354MB.
Do not unzip the file, leave it alone.
Once you have downloaded the update, use this program to make sure the MD5 Check-sums are the same. All this does, is scan the file bit-by-bit to ensure that no data was corrupted or lost during the download. It ensures your file is 100% correct with no problems.
MD5 Checker:
http://download1us.softpedia.com/dl...9b/100022900/software/file_management/md5.zip
MD5 Check-sum (update): 79A1EE4A992EACD1D08F98DEE5DEEBF7
Copy this and paste it into the MD5 Checker program (there is a "Paste" button) and select your update file, and it will automatically check it. If the codes match, continue. If not, re-download the update file until they do.
After you verify that the update file is 100% correct using MD5 Checker, place Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip on your phones EXTERNAL SD card. Plug your phone up to your computer, select USB Mass Storage from the notifications bar on your phone.
Two Micro-SD cards will open on your computer. If you aren't sure which is the external card, then just put the update on both of them. It's not going to affect anything to have it on both cards. If, for example, your SD Cards came up as drives "E" and "F" in on your computer, then you would place the updates in "E:\" and "F:\", essentially the root folders for those cards. As a measure of safety, I recommend re-checking the files using MD5 Checker once they are on the SD Card(s), to ensure no data was corrupted when transferred.
Download mattlgroff's "RAZR Utility 1.7" here:
http://goiww.com/mattlgroff/DroidRazrUtility1.7forICS.zip
It is fairly large at 747MB. As with the update file, check this using the MD5 checker to ensure its the complete, correct file.
MD5 Check-sum (utility): 40DC068DC4B0DFBA12C96A7D18C267E5
Once you verify the file is good, extract it's contents to your desktop, or wherever you want. Once extracted, run "DroidRAZRUtility.bat", you may or may not see the ".bat" part.
IMPORTANT
If you have old RAZR drivers installed, none at all, or aren't sure:
There is a "Drivers" folder included with "Razr Utility 1.7". Install either 32-bit or 64-bit versions depending on which type of windows
(x86 "32-bit" / or 64-bit) installation you are running on your PC. This can be checked by right-clicking "My Computer" and clicking to "Properties".
Turn your phone off. After the phone is off:
hold down BOTH volume buttons and press the Power button. You will boot into the phones boot loader

}
Using the VOLUME DOWN KEY, scroll down "AP Fastboot", and press the VOLUME UP KEY to select it.
Plug it up to your computer via USB cable (if you havn't already).
Start the Razr Utility 1.7, hit any key to continue when it tells you to. You will then be at a menu with options 1 through 9.
Select option 1, and follow the on-screen directions.
IMPORTANT
While running the RAZR Utility, if you are presented with errors saying "system could not find the path specified" then you did not extract it. You MUST extract the files before running "DroidRAZRUtility.bat"
Once the utility is done updating the necessary files on your phone, unplug it from the USB cable.
Press and hold down BOTH volume buttons, then press and release the power button to turn your phone off.
While still holding down BOTH volume buttons, press the power button until you are back in your phones boot loader (see previous image)
Now that you are again in the phones boot loader:
Using the VOLUME DOWN KEY, scroll down "Recovery", and press the VOLUME UP KEY to select it.
The phone will reboot, take a moment at a blank screen, and you will then see a green Android with an exclamation sign. The android must be laying on its side with a red triangle/exclamation mark.
IMPORTANT
If the image on your phone does not look like the one below, the RAZR utility was unable to flash the ICS Recovery files. You will need to go back to step 4.
At the green Android image:
Press BOTH volume keys at the same time and release. You are now in the phones recovery menu
Using the volume keys, scroll down to "Apply update from external storage" and press the POWER button.
Using the Volume keys:
Scroll down to "Apply update from external storage" and press the POWER button.
Scroll down to "Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip" and press the POWER button to apply the update.
The update process will take approximately 10 minutes, possibly longer. After it is done, select "reboot system now". You are now on the ICS OTA Update.
IMPORTANT
If you encounter any errors during the update installation:
Using the recovery menu, select "wipe data/factory reset" and press the POWER button. Scroll down to "yes" and press the POWER button.
Afterwards, select "wipe cache partition" and press the POWER button.
Once both wipe's are complete:
Press and hold down BOTH volume buttons, then press and hold the power button to turn your phone off.
While still holding down BOTH volume buttons, press the power button until you are back in your phones boot loader
Using the VOLUME DOWN KEY, scroll down "Recovery", and press the VOLUME UP KEY to select it. The phone will reboot into Recovery.
Repeat steps 8 & 9
In rare cases, some users you have had to try to install the update more than once before it succeeded.
IF ALL ELSE FAILS AND NOTHING ABOVE HELPED
Download mattlgroff's "RAZR Utility 1.6" (NOT 1.7) here:
http://goo.im/apps/mattlgroff/DroidRAZRUtility1.6_final.zip
As with the previous files, use MD5 Checker to verify is it correct.
MD5 Check-sum: 99Df6CA0B1EA9AD28E88DD7D5FE45B8B
Using the same methods from above to get into the AP Fastboot mode:
run option 1 on the 1.6 utility
Once done, the phone will reboot, install a 100% stock copy of .181 Gingerbread, then reboot
Once the phone has booted to the "Welcome to Android" screen (or whatever it says), turn the phone off and restart this guide from step 1.
IF YOU ARE STUCK AT THE RED MOTOROLA "M" BETWEEN STEPS
Press and hold down BOTH volume buttons, then press and hold the power button to turn your phone off.
While still holding down BOTH volume buttons, press the power button until you are back in your phones boot loader
IF AP FASTBOOT INDICATES YOUR BATTERY IS TOO LOW TO PEFORM FLASH
Reboot into the boot loader
Plug your phone into a known working WALL charger
Scroll down to "BP TOOLS"
Press volume up to reboot the phone into charge only-mode, similar to the image below (this is the ICS charge-only screen)
(COMPLETELY OPTIONAL)
I personally recommend doing a factory reset on your phone afterwards. You don't have to. If you've ever worked with computers and installed a newer version of Windows over an older version, you'll know the newer version will still work, but its slowed down a little by old files from older version of Windows you just replaced. Again, this isn't necessary, but recommended.
HUGE thanks to "mattlgroff" for his utility, all his hard work, and amazing support to the RAZR/MAXX community! At the end of the day, all credit for this being possible (in my opinion at least) should go to him for giving us the option to perform this. Thanks again Matt!
thanks for the tutorial.

Yea I looked at the troubleshooting and it didnt mention anything about that.
I checked the md5 sums for the utility and the .zip file and bother matched up.
Great write up, very detailed and clear. Thanks!
Thank you OP for updating the method!! I tried the method in the other thread and it didn't work for me. All the pictures and everything in this method made it a lot easier. I just completed it and my phone just booted up, I now have ICS!!
Home button stopped working
I did this whole set up on my Razr Maxx and I ended up having to do a factory reset for it to work, but now my home button isnt working... Is there any fix to this and if not, how do I revert to GB? Thanks though everything else is great. the phone is a little slow though from lag... Please respond with some information
What if I am on 6.14.75 XT912 Android version 4.03 rooted. Do I need to downgrade???
Should I back up my internal memory on my computer? Cuz i know the Batman utility erases does this one too?

One thing I did a little bit different from the instructions is before I "installed the update folder" I did the factory wipe and wiped cache and then I installed the update zip from the external SD card. I installed it like I would a custom rom. Just to make sure everything was clean when I did it.
so im still having issues.
I downloaded the .211 update
downloaded both the 1.6 and 1.7 utility
checked all with md5 check sum (all was good)
put the update on the root of my SD card
booted into AP FB
opened the 1.7 utility
booted up and when it said "press any key to continue" i pressed enter and the screen closed.
according to here:http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/2899-droid-razr-utility-17-help-thread/
i added to the PATH
I added to the system path like it says to in the link (pic attached)
so i then tried to boot up 1.7 and again when it tells me to press any key, it just closes.
Then i tried using the 1.6 utility and it just closes as well
Thats as far as ive gotten
Any way to undo?
I loaded it but had too many problems with the ICS ( like home button not working/no lock screen, etc...) so I need to undo it. I tried the Razr Utility 1.7 option 2 to unstick myself and it bricked me. So i ran it again to unbrick and it force closed after "installing 'radio' " If anyone provides information helping me get back to GB id be more than happy to DONATE! :good:.... You can never go back to GB. All you needed to do was reboot a few times, and if that didn't help perform a data and cache wipe. Repeat the guide and you should be ok

I've spoken with Matt about this and he suggested if the path modification didn't work, to try another sideloading method. You will need to be on a stock .181 build and root. You can find the alternate method here:
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/2871-how-to-upgrade-from-181-to-211-sideload/

Accidentally tried flashing GSM rom onto CDMA D:

First off, sorry if this is in the wrong section, didnt quite feel like it belonged in the development forum.
Now to the problem. I downloaded a root thing for gsm. Read the instructions and went oops thats for gsm. I cant post links because I am a new member but if you search for thread "ICS 4.0.4 upgrade guide - "not so permanent now"" on here you will find the page/instructions/link. Went on searching. However having way too many windows open on my little laptop screen with a touch pad thats too sensitive i accidentally somehow clicked on something in that folder because I am an idiot and left the window open. Lesson learned...close/delete **** that doesnt apply to my phone. I think i clicked either Rootexplorer.apk or whatever was on top or below (fastboot or step 1 - flash 403) it since that is where my mouse was approx when something popped up and my phone did something (lesson 2, dont leave phone plugged in to computer)
I have been searching furiously and have all but given up and am ready to go out and buy a new phone tomorrow...ouch...
I am hoping that somebody here might know of something. My phone was freshly updated to 4.04 before it happened. Please try to keep the flaming to a minimum but understandably i deserve some of it but im feeling pretty miserable as it is already. Thanks in advance for any help you guys may provide.
I'm no expert, but I would think of you can still get into fastboot you can saved your phone. I'm droidrzr.com there's plenty of people that use fastboot to go from one ics leak to another. Maybe you can do something like that. I don't know razrs all that well. Sorry if this was a useless post.....
Sent from my DROID RAZR
Google "matts razr utility 1.7"
Download and run.
Make sure your phone is connected to your PC and in ap fastboot mode,
Select option 1
Follow directions from there.
also, make sure you have .211.xt912.en.us on the root of your EXTERNAL SD card before you start the utility.
This should at least get you on the stock cdma ics.
EDIT:
Download
Verizon, 6.16.211.en.US
Unzip the file, copy the 2 files to Root of your EXTERNAL SDCARD
Follow this: droidforums.net/forum/droid-razr/213197-offical-ota-zip-installation-guide-droid-razr-razr-maxx.html
Copied from there:
1. Download the official OTA "Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip " file from above.
2. Place the file downloaded in step one into the ROOT of your EXTERNAL SD card. (DO NOT UNZIP THE FILE)
3. Turn off phone.
4. Go into recovery by pressing and holding the Volume Up (+), Volume Down (-), and Power button all three at the same time. (Press and hold all physical buttons.)
5. The menu will come up and select "Recovery".(Volume Down key to go down and Volume Up key to SELECT/ENTER Recovery.)
*The Android and Exclamation mark logos will come up*
6. Press both Volume Up (+) and the Volume Down (-) buttons at the same time. Release.
7. With the Volume Down (-) button go down to "Wipe CACHE partition" and press the Power button to select it. DO THIS TWICE (Don't worry your data will not get erased by wiping the cache.) (Thanks smmfc)
8. With the Volume Down (-) button go down to "Apply Update from SDCard" and press the Power button to select it.
9. Volume Down (-) go to the “Blur_Version.6.12.173.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zi p” and select it with the Power button. (This is the one we put in the External SD in Step 2.)
10. It will take a while to upgrade, mine isn't even done yet and I started it when I started to write Step 1
11. Once it is done, go to "Reboot system now."
12. Official ICS, Enjoy!!! =D
Once it's your first time starting ICS, it WILL take a while to load up, it is normal, it will also be "Optimizing applications" at first start up.
-----------------------------------------
Just extract the blur version zip and place it on the root of external SD, then run utility
All of this can be done from your PC if you have a card reader.
Don't thank me, thank matt for his awesome utility if it works.

Well I couldnt live without a phone, normally I would painful as it would be. But got a new job offer and I need to be in contact with the world so I went and got a new one this morning. But hopefully if anybody else is as silly as me then this thread will be here for them to save their phones.

help installing ics please

I am trying to install ics. I do what the link is telling me. It goes to the android icon and it installs 10-15 % then it reboots back to 2.3.5 what am I doing wrong
Which method were you using? Trying to install US version?
Here's a detailed thread if trying US version.
Hello All,
This is the tale of my personal journey to updating my RAZR to the .211 OTA. Please note that all of this is from my memory. If anyone happens to notice an error, please let me know asap! I’ll be sure to edit the post.
Hopefully my time yesterday will help other n00bs like me
Backstory:
I was rooted on .181. I thought that I was 100% stock other than the root, but apparently that wasn’t the case. My first attempt was done via this method here: http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/2871-upgrade-from-181-to-211-sideload/
I tried this method because it seemed the easiest, but it did not work for me. It just simply booted me back into GB.
So… after reading, thinking, reading, thinking, wavering, thinking, and drinking for hours on end yesterday, I finally give this method a shot. This is my overly specific story of my success.
Numerous caveats before I proceed (seriously... read these):
1) In no way, shape, or form, is this information novel. I give all credit to Matt (his utility), andlaw, and RDA990 over at droidrzr.com and droidforums.com. THANK YOU ALL!
2) What follows is only the step-by-step of how I accomplished it. I am in no way, shape, or form responsible for what happens should you try this at home.
3) This is from where I compiled the information:
a. http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...y-17-for-ics-and-those-who-want-to-go-to-ics/
b. http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...-installation-guide-droid-razr-razr-maxx.html
c. http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/2871-upgrade-from-181-to-211-sideload/
4) The process is actually simpler than it appears.
5) Make sure that you have a charge of at least 70% (I charged to 100% to be safe).
6) If for some reason you brick, see here to fix: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...-installation-guide-droid-razr-razr-maxx.html
7) This method will wipe your phone (i.e, factory reset).
8) To my knowledge, this method only works if you are on .181. (but see the link in A for other versions).
9) My understanding from my extensive reading yesterday indicates that the reason some people were failing on the OTA update from the link above at droidforums is that the first attempt at the ICS installation replaces your stock Recovery but then fails to actually install. Some were getting errors the second time around as well.
10) This method worked flawlessly for me first attempt.
What you’ll need:
a) A Droid Razr (duh)
b) A Windows PC
c) Latest Motorola Drivers
d) Matt’s Utility 1.7
e) The OTA .zip file (Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip)
f) Your USB cord
g) Download C,D,E here: http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...y-17-for-ics-and-those-who-want-to-go-to-ics/
Steps:
1) Download Matt’s Utility 1.7.
2) Unzip it
3) Download the OTA .zip update file. DO NOT UNZIP IT
4) Make sure you turn on USB Debugging on your phone
5) Connect your phone to your computer via USB
6) Place the zipped OTA file on the EXTERNAL SD CARD of your phone. Please note that you can verify it’s in the right place by using ES File Explorer (available for free on the market). It should be located at “/mnt/sdcard-ext/”. You can also verify the md5 via ES File Explorer to make sure it matches that listed on Matt’s download page.
7) Change USB back to Charge Only
8) Turn your phone OFF
9) Hold Power, Volume UP, and Volume DOWN (all three at the same time). A menu will appear.
10) Press Volume DOWN until you get to AP Fastboot
11) Press Volume UP to enter AP Fastboot
12) Open the folder to which you extracted Matt’s 1.7 utility on your PC
13) Open the .bat file in Matt's Utility folder
14) Select Option 1. Let it do its thing. It replaces the stock recovery (along with some other stuff I don’t understand) so that you can then actually apply the update. This process actually takes a few minutes (probably something like 5-10 minutes).
15) When complete, turn your phone OFF using the on-screen (phone) instructions.
16) At this point, I powered back on, and the phone booted back into stock GB. I then setup Google account.
17) Turn phone OFF
18) Hold Power, Volume UP, and Volume DOWN (all three at the same time). A menu will appear.
19) Press Volume DOWN until you get to “Recovery”
20) Press Volume UP to enter “Recovery”
21) At this point an android will be on his side with an exclamation mark. Don’t freak out, this is supposed to happen.
22) Press Volume UP and Volume DOWN (both at the same time). This should enter recovery.
23) With the Volume DOWN button go down to "Wipe CACHE partition" and press the Power button to select it. DO THIS TWICE
24) With the Volume DOWN button go to "Apply Update from SDCard" and press the Power button to select it.
25) Press Volume DOWN until you get to “Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip” and select it with the Power button. (This is the one we put in the External SD in Step 6.)
26) It will take a good bit of time to update. Mine took about 15-20 minutes.
27) Once the update is complete select "Reboot system now."
28) Grab a beer and pat yourself on the back.
29) Feel free to Root ICS 4.0.4. using Matt’s 1.7 utility  (if you do, I believe you need to make sure to check allow installation of non-market apps – at least I did, and it worked for me).
30) Did I mention to have a beer?
31) See pics for verification (screen shots are built into ICS by holding Power and Volume DOWN!)

Reunited with my HTC Rezound
nothing?
I'm not up to speed myself quite yet with the RAZR, saw you just got one too. I came from the rezound. What build are you on?
Search around for Matt's RAZR tool. Also could do a factory reset.
Edit: here is a post below that has the tool. May be a good thing to have anyway if you're like me and need an oh s%#* tool.
Here's a Dropbox link to the 1.81 Utility http://db.tt/b5cawgcK You can try option 1 follow these instructions
Wait.

Great info bond32, and thanks for the dropbox link, I dorked up my Razr and I've been trying to download matts utility all day.. always times out after an hour or so.
I hope this utility gets me back up and running..
I rooted today.. did a back up.. restored the back up which apparently was invalid and now I get stuck at the open chested droid.
I've tried RSD Lite, but that doesn't work for me either..
I'm able to get to the AP Fastboot.. so I still have hope.
