Bricked! PLEASE HELP! - Motorola Droid RAZR

Okay this is what happened. I own the razr maxx and i got a little impacient and decided to download the leaked .210 4.0.4 motorola ota. That went fine and i was running that for 4 days. Then i wanted to go back to stock 2.3.6 so i used the Mats Utility 1.6 to do so i let it do its thing and i came back and i turned on the phone. It booted up to the M logo and then a couple seconds later the screen turns black. I really need help on this. I have tried using RSD light and flashing the stock rom but it says flash failed. I can boot into stock recovery and everything else.
Can someone help?

Once on .210, there is no going back to GB (2.3.6).....Thinking you are probably screwed. Might be able to reflash .210 or .211

You can try and flash back, but future reference heed the warnings.

I was in the same boat but in order to get recovery I had Vol+ Down for quite a bit maybe 40 sec. It flashed a bar. Here was the catch. if I continued to depress the power button plus V0l+ and Vol- I git the black screen The trick is to release power and depress Vol+ & Vol- when it shuts down. From there you can get to recovery etc.

If i wanted to go back to .210 how do i go along doing so?

5. Copy the update file and the .crc to /cache
6. Open /cache in a file browser of your choosing that will prompt you which application to use instead of opening the .zip file itself (ES File Explorer seems most popular)

10. Done! I recommend factory resetting again here. Reroot if you want.
If you're on a previous ICS leak, above .79
- PUT THE .206 UPDATE FILE ON YOUR EXTERNAL SD CARD FIRST.
You will not be able to use your RAZR to put the files on the SD card after you begin. Please do so beforehand.
- Open the Droid Razr Utility 1.6
- Turn your phone off, & then turn it back on holding VOL DWN and PWR to boot into AP Fastboot
- Select Fastboot to .181 in the Utility & follow the onscreen directions
- Let it complete. There will be quite a few errors, don't panic - this is normal.
You are now on what we coined "Psuedo-.181" - some weird hybrid of GB and ICS files. Your phone will not boot at this point.
- Open the unstick ICS tool
- Choose the newest (.20X) kernel
- Let it install, and reboot.
Because of this kernel upgrade, you are now able to flash ICS again... even a later version.
- Turn your phone off
- Hold VOL DOWN + VOL UP + PWR, then use VOL DWN to go to "Recovery" and VOL UP to select it
- Press VOL DWN + VOL UP to bring up the menu
- Navigate to "Apply update from external SD"
- Select the .20X zip file you downloaded.
- *IF IT FAILS THE FIRST TIME, TRY THIS PARAGRAPH AGAIN*
And now you're on the new ICS!
If you want root afterwards:
- Turn on your phone and let it boot normally
- Set everything up, and then turn on USB debugging
- Turn off your phone
- Hold VOL DWN + PWR to boot into AP Fastboot mode again
- Open the UnstickICS tool on your computer again
- Install the .85 kernel
- Turn your phone off
- Hold VOL DWN + VOL UP + PWR, then use VOL DWN to navigate to BP Tools, and VOL UP to select it
- Your phone should boot normally.
- Open the Droid Razr Utility 1.6 and select Root ICS.
- Follow the onscreen directions, pressing a button when it finishes rebooting, 3x.
- Turn your phone off again.
- Hold VOL DWN + PWR to boot into AP Fastboot again
- Use UnstickICS to flash the kernel of the version you want to upgrade to again
- Reboot
You need to do this, because the 4.0.4 kernel is not vulnerable to any root exploits. Going back to a previous kernel (in this case, 4.0.3) will allow you to exploit and obtain root, and then upgrade back to 4.0.4.
If you have any questions, I'll be glad to help.

[Q] Help regarding rooting please

I have a strange situation with my Razr XT910, let me explain to you guys and please tell me what to do:
1- My Razr was on 2.3.6
2- I rooted it, but I cannot remember which method as I tried many ways and cannot really remember which one succeeded.
3- After rooting I flashed a 4.0.4 AOKP-GSM-J.Y.Daddy rom
4- I have several issues with the rom so I want to install another rom, so I tried Eternity project rom. It didn't work and gives me message "Installation aborted", so I gave up.
5- Decided to go back to stock rom, so downloaded the right SBF and RSD lite.
6- I put the USB debugging on
7- I turned my phone off and go to boot loader mod by holding Volume +/- and power buttons and go to SBF flash, connect the USB cable and hear the notification sound from my laptop. No message received from the PC saying installing device. Receive message from RSD USB connected and one clicked show device it gives everything N/A
8- Uncompressed the SBF and pressed start. Then process FAIL
9- Now, tried to turn the phone on, I have to go to to Fastboot mode and press power long then screen goes off. Then I press volume +/- with power again to go to bootloader mode then choose normal reboot to turn my phone back.
10- Tried the above steps over than 30 times for 2 days. Suddenly I discovered that my phone is unrooted when I tried to install any app requires rooting such as Titanium.
My ICS works fine with some bugs, I still wants to go back.
Can any one help me, I explained everything I'm going through.
Appreciated.

Thanks dear, that's exactly what I did 30 times and I keep getting same message on RSD "FAIL"
Now I tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1486718
and choose # 1 restore EU GSM and I was stuck in a boot loading loop.
Any time I try an option with my phone I go to this screen:
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (s) (Flash Failure)
OA.GC
To return to normal mode-first press power key to power down
Device is LOCKED. Status Code:0
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable

Thanks again,
I forced it to close then it was booted to a screen (not CWmod) which enabled me to wipe the data and restore factory sittings and it worked. Now the phone like brand new and I installed the update to 2.3.6

[GUIDE][CDMA] A Literally Fool Proof Guide To Installing .211 (ICS).

NOTE: DO NOT panic if you get any errors, and do not stray from these steps. If you have a concern, please post in the thread and I will get back to you in a timely fashion, or someone else will help you. The only way you will mess yourself up is if you wing it at any point, like panicking when your .181 fastboot errors occasionally, or "freezes".
Files you'll need:- Modified Droid Razr Utility 1.6 - Credits to G8orDroid & Mattlgroff @ DroidRZR (required)
- The update file for the ICS Leak you want to install (required) - no link because there's always a new one around the corner and I don't wanna update the OP every two days. Ask in the thread if you need it.
If you're on .181 or earlier (GB), OR on an ICS leak prior to .84, such as .79 or .75...
-------MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE IS AT LEAST AT 50% BATTERY BEFORE YOU INSTALL. I ACTUALLY RECOMMEND 75% OR 100%, BUT AT THE VERY LEAST BE AT 50% OR YOU RISK HAVING TO HOTWIRE YOUR RAZR TO CHARGE IT IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG/TOO SLOW. BE CAUTIOUS!!!-------
- PUT THE UPDATE FILE ON YOUR EXTERNAL SD CARD FIRST.
You will not be able to use your RAZR to put the files on the SD card after you begin. Please do so beforehand.
- Turn on USB Debugging.
- Open the Droid Razr Utility 1.6 Modified .bat file.
- Press any button after ADB starts up. Then type in 15 and press enter, and follow the onscreen instructions to reboot into AP Fastboot (bootloader).
- Return to the main menu.
- Type 1 and press enter twice.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to Fastboot to .181 using Modified Droid RAZR Utility to make sure you're completely stock and the update will go through.
- Turn your phone off.
- Turn your phone back on, holding VOL UP + VOL DWN.
- Use VOL DWN to go down to "Recovery", and then VOL UP to select it.
- Press VOL UP+VOL DWN to bring up the recovery menu once an image pops up after the rebooted phone's Motorola logo.
- Use VOL UP+VOL DWN to navigate to "apply update from external storage", then press PWR.
- Use VOL UP+VOL DWN to navigate to the update file (named BlurVersion____________ unless you changed it.), then press PWR.
- You should get no errors, and the phone should install the update successfully. Congrats, you're on ICS!
- I recommend factory resetting here to be safe, but you don't have to.
- Use VOL UP+VOL DWN to navigate to "reboot phone", then press PWR to leave recovery.
- Reroot if you want, using the guide at the bottom of the post.
If you're on .181 or earlier (GB), OR on an ICS leak prior to .84, such as .79 or .75... But the above instructions gave you a sideload error...

You will not be able to use your RAZR to put the files on the SD card after you begin. Please do so beforehand.

- Pick up your phone, and skip setup as it is futile at this point. You'll just want to turn on USB Debugging.
- On your computer, return to the main menu.
- Type 3 and press enter. Follow the directions to root your phone. It should reboot three times total.
- Install ROM Manager from the Play Store (no need for premium if you don't want it)
- DO NOT CLICK INSTALL RECOVERY, AND DO NOT INSTALL BOOTSTRAP
- Copy the update file and the .crc to /cache using a file manager of your choosing with root permissions if you did not already do so.
- Open /cache in a file browser of your choosing that will prompt you which application to use instead of opening the .zip file itself (ES File Explorer seems most popular - remember that you'll have to go enable root permissions in settings to even get to /cache, though!)
- Tap on the .zip and open it with ROM Manager
- Don't check anything in the popup and reboot recovery
- It will flash and finish
- Done! I recommend factory resetting again here. Reroot if you want using the guide at the bottom of the post.

- Type 2 and press enter. Wait for the restore to finish, and you will automatically reboot into recovery.
You are now on what we coined "Psuedo-.181" - some weird hybrid of GB and ICS files. Your phone will not boot at this point. This utility also installs the .210 kernel, so you're ready to go to the next step.
- You can close the utility now. Pick up your phone.
- Press VOL DWN + VOL UP to bring up the text on the recovery menu once you see the Android with an open control panel stomach.
- Navigate down to "Apply update from external SD"
- Select the .211 zip file you downloaded.

And now you're on the new ICS! Factory/Cache reset if you want, then use VOL DWN + VOL UP to navigate to Reboot phone, and press PWR to reboot.
If you want root on this new ICS build:- Turn on your phone and let it boot normally
- Set everything up, and then turn on USB debugging (pull down the notification panel, tap the wrench, go all of the way down to developer options, tap that, then make sure USB debugging is checked), and make sure it isn't on Mass Storage mode (pull down the notification panel, tap on "connected as ____" and change to MTP or PTP.)
- Open the modified Droid RAZR utility and go to the main menu.
- Type 5 and press enter.
- Press enter again.
- Wait for the process to end completely. Your phone should reboot twice.
Rooted!

I wish I had seen these instructions about nine hours ago. I've been struggling with getting my Razr on .79, and finally figured it out. Would have saved me a lot of time if I had started with your directions!
Yeah, I was surprised how many people were having trouble and were using tools like the ICS Installer, so I thought I'd just compile my posts together for people to see.
Where are the links?

Not to be rude, but isn't there already like 3 threads explaining how to upgrade to the latest leak and root?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
None of them go indepth, leading to people jumping to conclusions on what to do in several situations. It's counterintuitive and leads people to bricks. I made my guides almost fool-proof, gathering like 15 likes over on droidrzr, so I thought I'd bring them over here for you guys.
I used .75 and safestrap to upgrade to the latest nightly. If I want .209 on my phone, what do I do? Your instructions only discuss gb or ics above .79.

Okay, clarified that the first set of instructions work on .75/.79 leaks, and added links.
If you want .209 mirrored, here:
http://rombot.droidhive.com/ROMs/sp...Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.crc
http://rombot.droidhive.com/ROMs/sp...Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip
Are people still doing this since its all but confirmed ICS will be OTA in less than a week?
We've heard like 3 speculated dates, and they were all wrong. I'd imagine this one probably is too.
Yah, but this is the first time I've actually seen it from sources* other than "that guy on the forumz"... Its keeping my hope alive anyway. heh
*Source,source
One of them was from a Best Buy system pic, one from a Verizon system pic. This one is just "well, our sources say..."
Everytime i try this, i get to install zip and then get error, sideload r something, and abort.
Can i get some help please?
Which are you doing, the first set of instructions or the second?
2nd set, the coming from ICS leak, back to 181, unstuck 209 flash 209 in stock recovery
You flashed .209 kernel in fastboot before trying to install? If so, just try installing twice.
I have tried multiple times. Even tried rebooting, waiting, going back recovery, wiping cache, then trying again. alway's same error.
1st
assert failed: apply_patch_check("MTD:boot: buch of numbers")
E:error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
status 7
2nd
when i try again
assert failed: mount("ext3" , "MTD", "system", "/system")
E:error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
status 7
then ill get 2nd error over and over if i try again.
looks like you need to fast boot 181 again. Make sure you flash the boot img before you go back to flash the update again.

FIXED!Help! Pretty much bricked, how to restore? On ICS

Here's the story:
I was on the .215 ICS update.
I was trying to watch the meteor shower last night, tried using Start Chart, then Sky Map, then several compass apps, and came to the conclusion that the sensor didn't seem to be working.
I thought I could reflash the original .211 file using Matt's utility, so I tried option 9 a couple times, which did nothing. I then used #2, which did something. When I was prompted to reflash .211...which was still on my sd card, something didn't take.
So here's where I'm at: Holding all 3 buttons will give me a quick flash and the moto dual core flash screen for about a minute or two, but that's it. No recovery, no fastboot. I'm guessing I managed to remove all the firmware.
I've dl'd the fastboot files and attempted to use RSD, but it's not seeing the phone. Drivers have been installed, and the drives are showing in the left side panel (with my comp, my docs etc...), however I cannot open them either.
Any suggestions? I'm guessing I'm pretty much f'd here.

Thanks for the reply, but I need some clarification. This option still requires being able to get into fastboot, which I cannot. Is there something I'm missing.?

Yes you need to get back to the boot loader menu it's still there. I'm pretty sure you should be able to force it off with the power button the hold all three buttons then follow these instructions
Getting back to .211:
This is a fairly simple process, but not as simple as getting back to .211 from .214.
If you are new to this, please fully read all the directions before starting this process. Remember, check how much battery you have.
1) Download Matt's Droid Razr Utility 1.81 from the link above.
2) Extract the files from the .zip (Creates DroidRazrUtility1.81 folder)
3) Go into the DroidRazrUtility folder and start the DroidRazrUtility batch file
4) At the Batman logo, press any key to continue.
5) At the next menu, select option "1" (Fastboot Restore 6.16.211 (ICS 4.0.4 Official OTA Software)) by typing 1 and pressing enter.
** DO NOT PRESS ANYTHING AT THE NEXT SCREEN UNTIL STEP 10**
6) Attach your phone to your PC with a USB cable.
7) Power down your phone
8) While phone is off, hold down both volume keys (up+down) and the power key.
9) Use the Volume Down key to select "AP Fastboot" and then use the Volume Up key to select it.
10) On the DroidRazrUtility, press any key to continue.
11) Keep an eye on your phone, it will turn off and on again.
12) Follow the on screen instructions and press any key why your phone's display turns on.
13) Repeat Steps 11-12 one more time
** .211 install should take around 5-10 minutes **
14) When the screen asks if you want to wipe data, hit any key to continue OR exit the program to KEEP DATA.
15) Tap the power key to bring you out of AP Fastboot, then it should power down.
16) Turn on your phone to see a screen of an Android with his chest open. Wait.
Thanks for your response. I actually got some help from someone on another forum, and he was able to make a suggestion that really cinched the fix. Holding all three buttons was not working to get to the fastboot menu, as it would flash, be blank, go to the moto splash screen, and go black again. What he suggested was holding vol down and power until it flashed, then hitting both vol keys. This brought up the fastboot menu, and I was a happy boy. From there it was as simple as running option 1 on the utility.
I have kind of the same problem, my phone is stucked in fastboot screen flashed failed. Will this method fix my phone?? And also I couldnt find any link for the download. Can you post the link again?

[Q] Droid Razr stuck on motorola red logo no boot manager

Hello,
I've searched for help on this and can't seem to find any.
Problem: Motorola Razr is stuck on the red m logo, but I cannot boot into the boot menu to flash via RSD or anything. The logo is offset to the left a little and has a small 1-2 pixel high rainbow of colors across the bottom. When trying to boot into the menu with power and vol + & - it simply boots without a logo but still the small bar of colors.
Probable cause: Phone's screen wasn't turning on and the phone wouldn't turn off so I did the reset with vol up and power while the phone was still probably on. Before when my phone's button wasn't responsive i used that to reset it and it had worked.
Info on phone and rom:
Rom - Rage rom 2.2 upgraded from 2.1 (worked for the past two months fine)
Phones base version: 98.72.16 (the april JB release) flashed via droid razr utility
Safestrap version 3.11
What I've tried: was going to try rsd flashing but i can't reach the boot menu.
Basic summary: Stuck on M logo and can't get into boot menu or safestrap, after holding vol up + power while phone was on.
Going into the boit manager and flashing via rsd lite both are different .
For flashing via rsd lite ya need to switch off ya mobile and then press both volume down and volume up at same time and press power button then.
It ll take ya into the bootloader and then using power down come till 3rd option ap fastboot and then press power up to select that now connect ya phone to pc and then flash the fastboot using rsd lite
Edit : make sure ya have installed appropriate drivers to get recognise ya phone by rsd lite
Thanks!!
Please hit the thanks button if i helped ya in anyways !!!
I think i have the same problem
I had MIUI on my Razr and today i wanted to try CyanogenMod, so i downlaoded it and installed it with ClockWorkMod, then rebooted and struck in the big red M, and no way to access the boot manger because if i press volume up + volume down + power it reboot, show the big red M then black sceen, and if it's conneced to my pc it tryes to install some drivers bit it fail, but still black screen
Is it bricked? What can i do?

Ya can't use boot manager and cwm recovery both . If ya want to use cwm ya need to remove all the files of bmm . Its just soft bricked not hard bricked so no need to worry just flash the appropriate fastboot file using rsd lite to get back to stock
Thats it
Edit : i think ya know the flashing method
Thanks!!
Please hit the thanks button if i helped ya in anyways !!!

Thanks for trying but I tried following your instructions to get into fast boot and the screen just goes dark. Also when plugging into my PC it pops up on windows' end saying that a USB device has malfunctioned. I think I may just get it replaced under warranty unless sometime soon I find out theres a new way to fix it. But yeah it seems its too hard to tell if I'm actually in fastboot or if its even getting there properly.
Thanks!
As far as i know ya have tried all the unbrick method , none of them seemed to work . I believe ya razr is not soft or hard bricked and its not software problem too . Its hardware problem ya need to take it to service centre because it may be LED problem
Thanks!!

How I fixed my Motorola Razr i (Intel)
Hello guys,
Since my Motorola Razr i phone is a company phone where I receive my corporate emails, I wasn't allowed to root the phone whatsoever.
My phone got stuck on the Red Motorola logo under normal usage. One day I turned it off and when I turned it back on, I had this problem.
How I solved it:
1) Downloaded and installed RSD Lite 6.1.4 which worked on Windows 8.1. Ensure all drivers are installed and that nothing is undetected in Device Manager. #important
2) I am based in Germany and I had the Vodafone Retail (EU) version. So I downloaded "CFC_9.8.2I-50_SMI-26_S7_USASMIJBRTEU.xml.zip" from http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=13. This corresponds to Android 4.1.2 Retail Europe.
3) I booted the phone in Fastboot (Power + Vol down; after restart and little vibrate, release power, keep finger on Vol down.)
4) The phone was detected in RSD Lite. I chose the zip file, unpacked and flashed.
5) Done. Phone was fresh. No warranty was void, nothing was rooted. All good.
Hope that helps somebody out there!
Cheers,
Shailen.
I've got the same issue. Took the OTA (was on stock OTA, rooted). Not, nothing but moto-logo with the only working option being AP Fastboot. Tried script utility to bring back to 4.1.2, but it fails on writing system and boot (preflash validation failed FAILED (remote failure)).
Is there another way to get the stock images flashed on there?

Well, with RSDLite 6.1.6 and the most recent build from droid-developers . org I'm back in operation. Old version, wiped out, but at least I can make/receive phone calls.
How I got my Razr HD (XT925) Working! Flashed It WITHOUT LOSE ANY FILES!
I know this is a old thread, but if some one else falls here just like me, I had a problem with my XT925 too, and figured out that my only choice was to flash it up.
My phone was stuck in the red motorola logo, and it doesn't even tried to load the android.
After reading a lot of information and tried EVERYTHING, I fall here, and the comment of @shailentj saved my phone!
So I basically followed the steps that @shailentj posted in this very thread, with some differences.
1 - His link goes directly to Motorola RAZR i (XT890), but if you access ' sbf.droid-developers.org ' (I can't post links yet) you will be able to find your own model, which in my case was Razr HD (XT925).
2 - Extracted the whole firmware package (.zip file) and edited the .xml file, removing the "getvar" line. If you don't know what or how to do this, is just remove the line where you find the text "getvar". If you have trouble, just google it, there is a lot of information.
And finally, the reason I'm here. I found a way to don't delete USER DATA! My phone stuck, and I did't have any backup of my contacts (that is a lot of numbers) nor my files (photos, movies).
So I start to read the .xml file, and find a step "userdata", with operation "erase". This line says to erase the user's data partition, and in most cases, we don't want that.
Then, just remove the line in the xml written: " <step operation="erase" partition="userdata"/> ", and your files (may) not be erased!
4 - I start to flash, and then I got the infamous message "sistem_signature" failed. The solution was just download the last RSD I found (which in my case was 6.1.6).
5 - My phone restarts, with everything working great, system restored and ALL MY FILES AND CONTACT NUMBERS were there!
So very thank you @shailentj, your post really helped me a lot!
And yeah, you can flash your phone without lose any contacts or photos!
Now go, and spread the word!
pls i need a direct link to download the fastboot files for my droid razr xt912 verizon

[Q] How to factory state (no SS, no JBX, etc)?

I have flashed my (now my father's) razr couple months ago and now GPS stopped working. It needs to be repaired.
I kind of know how to remove safestrap but what really annoys me is JBX kernel boot logo which appears whatever I do. I can be using stock rom and have no safestrap (nor other roms) installed but JBX logo still appears. I have never been really using it, just tested it once and since that, it is stil there.
Any idea how to remove it?

You need a PC to do this and just a regular USB/Charging cord that you normally would use to connect it to a computer.
You need to RSD it, It'll erase everything on the Internal, not the SD card so that should be safe.
Here is a link for the RSD program. LINK
Here is a list of different versions of Android you can download for your Razr LINK
And you also will need these drivers here LINK
(skip this step if your stuck in a bootloop)
1. Now what you do is you connect your phone to the computer, I used Media (MTP) mode. Install the Drivers and install RSD lite. and pick your Fastboot file version you want, I did the 4.1.2 so i could root it again with the easy root, but its your preference. Now Unplug your phone and hold power and turn it off.
2. Now press Power and Vol DOWN together. if it doesn't do anything let go of power button but keep the Vol DOWN, It should come up with a menu. Let go of Vol DOWN and tap it until you get to the option that says RSD mode, then press Vol UP.
3. Connect your device to the computer. RSD Lite should show a device on slot 1. Click it then press START. now browse and find the fastboot files the click Decompress and flash.
4. DO NOT TOUCH THE PHONE. DO NOT TOUCH THE PHONE. DO NOT TOUCH THE PHONE. DO NOT TOUCH THE PHONE.... oh yeah, one more thing. DO NOT TOUCH THE PHONE!
5. After its done, VIOLA. Stock phone. Re-Root. Reinstall SafeStrap. golden!
