Hello Everybody
I Flashed Resurrection Remix 3.0.3 in order to taste some brand new Jelly Beans.
Almost everything works, but when I connect my GS2 to my computer, I have only two choices of connection types : MTP or PTP.
I'm on Kubuntu 12.04, and it seems that only Mass Storage works in order to copy n' paste some files in the internal memory.
Is there an app, a mod or something to do to recover Mass Storage?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Sorry if I make mistakes, english is not my native language.

This is a repost from the Q&A forum I've posted a few hours ago, so I apologize. I'm just trying to get as much insight as possible on the problems I'm facing.
Complete noob here, let alone first android device and coming from Iphone. After I got my first Android device; the Samsung Galaxy Note (I717) I opted to go for another operating system to enable the tethering feature. I was successful in rooting my phone, installing CWM, and successfully flashing my ROM to the latest CM9 ROM.
However, I have a few simple task that I simply cannot accomplish, they are as follows:
1. Computer can no longer see phone as a mass USB storage device. I have enabled USB debugging mode on phone through settings.
2. No music player app can see my music files I have loaded on my microSD card, of which I have manually loaded through the computer to the microSD card.
3. the gallery cannot see my pictures I have transferred into the SD card.
However, all these files can be seen and accessed only through the OI File Manager app on the phone.
I do not know what I am missing.
Can somebody help Please?
Thank you,
Jeff
I have a similar post in the Q & A, its not the ROM, I believe it has something to do with custom kernals\ICS OS and the hardward of the galaxy, I dont think its completely compatible, hence the reason samsung hasnt officially released it. Both times Ive flashed to ICS on my galaxy note, my usb mass storage abilities have been lost. I can no longer connect VIA USB either.
Hmmmm no problems here?
I have used all of the ICS roms released since the first leak, through all of the CM9 updates, hybrid tablet...etc. I haven't had any particular problems connecting my phone to my PC, unless I was using the 15 toggle mod....
All if the ICS leaks you have to go under setting - Wireless and Network - more - USB Utilities - USB mass storage...
On the CM9 ROM, when you connect to PC, you get a notification that you have to acknowledge, then choose USB mass storage...
Like I said, both methods worked fine for me, unless I installed the 15 toggle mod on the leak..
Cheers!
The CM9 rom is an unofficial beta build. It's very good for what it is, but you shouldn't expect a beta build to be an every day rom. I had issues with USB transfer too.
Here is how to connect your gNote with CM9 in USB Mass Storage mode:
Settings>Storage>Press the menu key>USB Computer connection>Check the box against "Mass Storage".
Now connect as usual...
Enjoy...

thx!! i searched this function but didn't find it...
EDIT: sh.... there is no option "mass storage" there, it brings up the usual MTP and PTP connection options, but NO real mass storage!!!
Just got my GS3 (previously i had GS2 I9100G) , now my question is that in the settings folder there is no option of USB UTILITIES which was there in my old GS2 !! How am i supposed to connect my storage memory to the PC via USB ??
By using the search function.
There are literally dozens of threads about this.
The S3 does not have mass storage mode, only Mtp (which works fine on Windows computers)
You can use your sdcard with Easy UMS though

I have Kies installed on my PC & so the moment i connect my phone to PC the Kies will take over , hence the confusion !!
Do i need to uninstall Kies ?? Sorry for these "noobish questions" !!
Guys i am really eager to know whether Kies , which has been installed on my PC , will take over or not because i want to copy some app-files from my PC on to my SD card !
there is an app called easy ums in our apps and themes section. install it and now you will get usb mass storage for your ext sd card. s3 by default dosent support mass storage .
edit
here it is

I do have the latest Kies version & by the phrase "take over" i mean the phone will connect to kies straight away , which is not my goal !! I simply want to copy a few apps from my PC to my Ext SD Card !!
@bala_gamer .... Thanks for your kind help my dear bro , i am not a techie but will try as much as i can to follow the link you have given !!
Is there a way to just copy some apps from my pc to the handset using Kies ? Even if i can copy the apps on my internal memory , i can always move them to ext sd card !!
You can't move apps from internal memory to your sd card/install apps to sd card without rooting your device first.
Up to you whether you want to root your phone though.

OK fine !! Now just let me put it this way , forget mass storage connectivity !! Just assume that i have a GO Launcher theme (or any .apk file) on my PC & i want to install it to my GS3 , what is the solution for this ???
On Windows Vista/ Windows7, go to My Computer and access the phone which should appear.
Windows XP is more complicated (as usual).
Alternatively you can:
- root and use Easy UMS apk as already mentioned
- Use AirDroid
- Use Samba Fileshare
- Use any other filesharing app with your phone
Btw: Pushing a thread after only 2 hours is considered rude. Everyone in this forum helps you completely for free and whether you believe it or not some of us do have a life outside the XDA world.
Thanks dear bro d4fseeker & i am really sorry for pushing my query but believe me it was out of pure curiosity of how my new GS3 would work !! I am proud to be a part of this awesome forum full of awesome members !!

Resurrection Remix JB v3.0.3 is based on CM10 which doesn`t support mass storage mode yet (correct me if I`m wrong). However there is an apk that I use to force Mass storage mode. I use it on Resurrection Remix ICS 2.6.1 and it works great, not sure if it will work on Jelly Bean.

Search for, download and install the Samsung USB driver. It's in the forums.

Hello guys,
This is my first post and this place is still new to me so bare with me.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus. Rooted. Android 4.2.2
I am looking to recover some deleted files in the internal storage however whenever I plug in the USB to the PC, programs like "Paragon Backup and Recovery" and "Remo Recover for Android" cannot detect the device.
USB Debugging is checked.
I have been searching but no luck. Maybe someone here can help.
Thanks!
try kies and wandojia to update the lastest driver, it would help

sometimes change to another port would help
and also, you could switch mode (MTP, Camera, Mass Storage) and sometimes with debugging.
Eventually your PC would recognize and thus you could access to the internal data!
TRY harder man

I tried all that. There is no option for Mass Storage. Otherwise I wouldn't be here lol.
Are you sure you have installed every drivers?

Make sure every driver is properly installed?
You could use the Chinese synchronizing software "Wandojia". It could auto-detect and install the driver for you!
Or sometimes the option is hid under the category of more settings- wireless and networks- USB utilities
Or in storage, but you have to press menu to select the option
Just keep trying, good luck !
I'm sorry if this has already been answered (I couldn't find it) but I am having trouble finding USB mass storage mode on cyanogenmod 12. I get MTP and PTP but not Mass storage mode.
Any ideas?

MTP is essentially USB mass storage that's what you should be using.
Google is your friend look what i found in 2 seconds http://www.howtogeek.com/192732/android-usb-connections-explained-mtp-ptp-and-usb-mass-storage/

last CM12 nightly i tried had usb mass host broken so check cmxlog and see if and when if they have fixed.
Previously i was able to connect my phone with my TV via USB MASS STORAGE (TV was able to detect my phone as a storage device), i could access the videos & songs after connecting it through but now i can't do that.
What i think is USB Mass Storage has been disabled on core Android/CyanogenMod in favor of MTP and PTP as there is a problem with the way mass storage works. When you connecte the device to the computer then mass storage method needs exclusive access of the storage (intarnal extarnal sd card) and so it disconnects totally from the Android operating system running on the device. Any files or apps stored on the SD card or USB storage would be unavailable to android os when it was connected to the computer so to make Android os running smooth during that pc connection but I can't appreciate this as mass storage is really essential to connect it to inferior devices like TVs and car music player.
Anyone know a way to activate mass storage in Android? Running on Android 5.0.2/Cyanogen 12
Came to this thread because I'm looking for the same thing, yet for my Xperia ZL. I've found MTP mode unstable on my device (even with stock ROM) and using it as Mass Storage Device is the only reliable way to access my 64GB SDCard. So IMO +1 on MTP/PTP not being the only available USB modes out there!
any update on this issue???
