is there an android app like wifi file sharing from webos? - TouchPad Themes and Apps

I know of the wifi share apps on android where you are giving an ip address to go to
but on webos it just makes the hdd shared so you can go to network on windows and see it there. is there an android app that does this too?

Yes there many apps in androis too.
Try to search on play store
one I know is AirDroid.

I have looked for this before as well. I only found apps that went through a web browser. I use to use the webOS app for my Pre Plus and it worked great. It simply transfered the app like a bluetooth file transfer would. Ahh, I miss that. lol

Yeah, i dont get why every wifi file transfer app needs to run through a web browser.

samba
i think you want samba from the play store. there are probably others, but thats what i use

OOO thanks, samba was what I was looking for, too bad I can't use it without username/password but still good

no no no no no. the king of all file explorer apps is by far esfile explorer. there isnt anything that it wont do. share files or stream video right from within the app. over wifi, over bluetooth, has support for all the top cloud storage like dropbox, box.com, skydrive, ubuntu1 gdrive, you name it. it also features ftp functionality, you can set your android device up as an ftp server or you can browse files from a different ftp server. it has built in settings for playing video browsing and editing pictures editing text files i mean the list goes on. a must have for sure. 5+ stars. oh and yes it supports you can set the login settings for each remote device that youre connecting to or set special logins for specific shares that you want to serve up. enough said it wins.

Remote VNC Works!! - VNC Server on NC

Ok.. got vnc server written by XDA user onaips to work on the NC
Make sure you install Busybox before you run it. IT WILL NOT WORK without it.
If you haven't installed Android Market, go and look the threads and install that.
Search for busybox, download and RUN it to install busybox.
Now in the Market search for "droid vnc server"
download and install onaips app. onaips app checks for busybox & will prompt you if you havent installed it.
I recommend to do a quick reset and run droidVNCserver app. works like a charm
The only drawback is that it shows nook portrait mode in landscape. if you turn it around it works ok... hmmmm.. what gives..
see the thumbnail
Does this let you see the Nook on your desktop? Or your Desktop on your Nook?
To clarify,, this is VNC server for the nook, so that you can access/see your nook from the desktop.
I was able to connect to my nook from Ubuntu but, it acted like it was a view-only VNC session. I was unable to actuate any button-presses, etc.

Same problem here, but I am connecting from a Windows XP.
So rather than install this on my nook, I installed it on my phone, and installed wyse pocket cloud on my nook to log into my phone's screen. This let me connect to my phone so I can manage access control in tethering, as well as send texts and such. This will be really handy.

I haven't been able to get wyse pocketcloud to work on my NC! I'm not sure what the issue is. What method were you using? I was trying to use the google log-in method, which worked for my phone to computer. Being able to access my phone would be interesting for said reasons.

[app] autoproxy for proxy settings in cm7

In cm7, there is no option to set "proxy and port" in wifi settings=>advanced. It was there in froyo roms. So i was searching for an app which would solve this and i found this app which not only solved this problem but also provided an extra feature.
In some wifis like college wifi etc, u will be able to connect to wifi and browse the internet only in the stock browser or some other browsers also. But u wont be able to use the wifi for market, gmail apps etc. I don't know the exact reason. Someone told me that its related to some ports thing
So the extra feature is that, using this app, we can use wifi for market, gmail etc apps too...

How to disable search for DLNA servers in Gallery app?

In my home network I have 3 DLNA servers that allow streaming of all myvids/music.
When connected to wifi on my S3, if i open the Gallery app it automatically searches and parses all files on available DLNA servers.
This drains a huge amount of battery life! and it does this every time the gallery is started.
So far I have not found a way to disable this search or even to limit the servers.
I am running stock everything.
I first thought it was the "All Play" service but disabling it did not help. I know believe it may be a part of the Gallery app itself.
Any thoughts/ideas on how to disable that functionality in the gallery app?
Note- this is not the same as DLNA file sharing. disabling that only disables sharing of files from the s3 to other clients.
This annoys me as well. As much as it is kinda cool functionality to have, every time I go to show a picture of something on the phone at home, it spins up the hard disks in my 2 NAS devices for no reason. An option to turn this off would be great...
I have the same problem. My WD MyBook Live, and media players in the network show up in the gallery and slow it really down. I hope somebody has a solution to this as so far I only can stop it selecting the option "View by" "Content in device" but that can not be saved.
Here is something i have found.
If you select "View By " from the Gallery options menu then choose "Content in Device" it disables the DLNA view.
BUT
only for that instance of gallery.i.e. if gallery app is killed then you will have to choose option again.
Still you only have to do it every time you reboot your phone.
there is another thread just like this that has opped up same section slightly different request.
Ill pop a link from this thread into the other and see if we can get an answer. Have you disabled the media scan function in the wi-fi section?

You should post in here to collate the information and of course use the search feature next time

The thread you posted was only started yesterday. This one here has been here for a week.
Either way ill jump on the other one and get the guys to jump over and get to answer I know you can remove the image cache but I'm not sure about the continual load because even if you remove the cache it will just keep updating it.
You can also root your device and manually remove the Allshare apk's. but that removes the allshare functionality of course.
I have done this on my S3 and gallery no longer searches for DLNA servers.
I've decided to use BubbleUpnP for DLNA streaming purposes instead.
Any luck?
Just got my S iii and am having same issue. I vaguely remember it asking about dlna upon setup, but I cannot find how to disable it loading pics from my PC every time I open gallery. Battery killer! Btw, there is nothing in the other thread mentioned about this. Has anyone figured it out?

I haven't seen any comments on here in several months, has this been resolved? (Aside from getting a replacement Gallery-style app.)
I'm new to Verizon and have the S3 (Verizon model of course) and have the same problem. I turned off all DLNA settings but the Gallery app still searches. I have Plex Media Server at home (Mac version), so Gallery gets extremely sluggish when I'm home and have WiFi turned on. It's sluggish to the point that I have to slowly enter Task Manager to exit it; no sense even trying to get the "Content in Device" option set because it never sticks and takes almost forever to get to because of the sluggishness.
I also went to the other forum link posted above, but that seems to be talking about WiFi always scanning, not this Gallery/DLNA issue, unless I'm missing something...?

on my rooted note 2 I used rom toolbox to permanently remove anything 'allshare' related, as I don't use that stuff. It resolved my issue with gallery slowing. I have plex installed, but it is not sharing photos.
Deleted.
I think I managed to solve this on my device.
I went into the "more settings" under wireless and network. And into "Allshare cast" when I turned this off my gallery suddenly started working again.
*edit*
Nevermind, it was just for a few minutes. The app started to slow down after I closed and opened it again.

Guys, this is an old post, but the same keeps happening with newer models, and i didn't want to use a third party app. I downloaded an app called DisableService (needs root) and disabled the service SystemService inside NearbyService. The nearby devices list has disappeared from the gallery's menu and the gallery starts up a lot faster. I have yet to try if the gallery will still spin up my nas but i'm very optimistic.

Built in web browser - How do delete?

The system built in web browser... i don't know what it's called but it's whats used when various logins are needed ... it's causing me nothing but grief. Even if I set another web browser to default, this stupid built in thing opens for authentications and it doesnt work. Other devices I have do a similar thing but don't cause problems.
How do I delete this system browser and force it to open say Firefox for web-app authentications?
Why not simply deactivate it?

If i do that, nothing opens when an authenticating link is pressed. It just crashes to home screen. Also, I see there is a Android Web View Beta in the playstore, and I activated that. It doesn't seem to do anything different (I also deactivated the original one).
