Samsung galaxy s3 mic issues?? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I've recently been having problems with my mic on my phone when I ring someone they can't hear me but I can hear them fine, but I know the mic is working fine because I tried the voice search on the Internet and it worked ok, I've tried restarting the phone but still no luck, any help will be appreciated also another question can a rooted device receive software updates through the phone? Cheerz

This happened to me when my modem (phone) firmware didn't match my pda firmware. Flash with odin and it'll all be back to normal.

Had the same here.
Flashed the Three UK modem (NELE4 I think) over XXLG8 on my unbranded unit -> people couldn't hear me
Flashed back the modem matching the firmware -> all good
I guess I'll have to wait for Three to update their modem to work with later firmware.

I'd say you answered your question yourself. If you can use the voice search function fine, then your microphone is still fully functional. You should rather ask the person who was calling you if his/her phone is still working alright. I've had the same problems and it was either:
The German Telekom performing maintanence on their network
or
The other party's phone crashed.
.
No. You cannot receive stock Samsung OTA updates if you're rooted. You can, however, get OTA updates from CyanogenMod. (And yes. Before anyone says anything, it DOES download deltas as well as the fully fledged software. It's just a matter of the app you're using and the settings you have set.)
Hope I could help!

You're runnning LUX (which, according to this site is the version for Luxembourg) but you're in San Diego? Is it an imported phone?
I'm on LUXALE5 too (Luxembourg) and so far no official update (as usual... we always get Samsung updates with a huge delay)
You can flash any other version through Odin or CWM. However I don't think the call issues are related to the firmware; do you have any special 3. party apps (sound mixer, equalizers, call recorders ...) installed?
yea its imported. i bought it off amazon. i do not have any third party apps installed or anything installed. no EQ's either. i. using straight talk but its not that. i put my sim in my other phone and it worked.

You don't have to root your phone to flash any official firmware using Odin PC. However, you do have to root your phone to use Odin Mobile.
thank you kind sir

Three / 3 UK Internet Problems

I have flashed my phone from a 3 brand I9300XXALF6 to the latest stock UK I9300XXBLG8 firmware, changed my csc from H3G to BTU and ever since then Im having issue with the mobile data connection, I can see the H / H+ icon in the status bar but it is only displaying the flashing little green arrow up and not the orange/yellow arrow down so I can't actually downloaded any apps or view websites or new emails
I have tried flashing back to the to 3 brand I9300XXALF6 from sabmobile site but after rebooting I get an error saying contacts has stopped working & application.acore has stopped working this keeps looping and the phone is un-useable, I have tried booted into recovery mode doing a factory reset/clear cache and I still have the same error once I reboot
I'm am now using stock UK I9300XXBLFB and have changed the modem to what I've read is the stock 3 modem (NELE4) and I'm still have issues again with my mobile data connection
Can anyone suggest on what I should do?

I've flashed back to LG8 and I'm still having issues, I can be using the net then all of a sudden randomly the green arrow on the H/H+ will only display and not the orange one, this basically cuts of the net and apps will give network access errors. I have a 2/3 bar signal.
Could you please post your apn settings just so I can double check them, other than that any more suggestions?

I still get fairly bad Three speeds even with the NELF1 modem. However, if I take the official update form Kies for Three I get some constant speeds of around 2.5Mbps. I'm unsure whether it's just a flaky signal in my area or my phone

If using CM10 you will loose sound when making calls with NELF1. Wish three would update their crappy software. My 3G speeds have been horrible when trying Jelly Bean. Will be flashing back to ICS tonight and hope that solves the problem..
Been trying nelf1 modem on 3 uk since this morning, previously used lg6 which I found better than lg8. Signal seems better in low reception areas and I got 12.5Mbs on download speed at one point. Running Omega 11 on latest Siyah kernel

Failed firmware update question on international version

Hello,
I've done some searching and have seen some with the same issue. When I go to update it says:
"Failed to update firmware due to network or server problem. Try update update.. or try using kies."
Message started out of the blue a couple weeks ago.
Kies says I'm up to date. Tried through Mac and PC
Went to recovery and cleared cache and tried again. Saw that advised on another forum. Tried on 3G and different wifi networks. Possibly Samsung server error, but strange it lasted for weeks?
Baseband is I9300BULF1. Not rooted or anything.
This is my first Android. Mainly trying to isolate if an update is available or not and if there is a problem how to resolve.
just wondering if kies is up to date? Worth a check, personally I never use that rubbish, Odin for me!
thanks for reply.
I had checked and made sure Kies was up to date. I mainly use Mac, had just downloaded a version for PC, but made sure was latest version.
From what I see there are different versions based on region, etc.. Not sure if/how to tell what the latest version should be.
Latest firmware to flash is LG9 firmware.
It doesn't matter where you are, you can still flash it.
Go to samfirmware.com and you'll find the latest and you can flash it via Odin, way easier than that ota nonsense.
I've had 6 android phones and never once have I waited for an ota.

Thanks for that link. I set file to download so should be ready by when I get in.
I have this file downloading
"Singapore (StarHub) 2012 July 4.0.4 I9300XXBLG9 I9300OLBBLG2"
From latest search that was the only one I saw with LG9
looking up info on odin as well. Looks like that's PC only program, but no problem.
Going to give this a go tonight.
Thanks
Lg8 is the same but European version I think so depending where you are it may be advisable to flash that, I'm fairly certain lg9 is the Asian version of lg8 so may not have your csc if you aren't Asian?

Yes, good point.
All custom roms are based on lg9 but then again they are all multi csc.
At the end of the day the csc doesn't really matter, its only related to carrier/location based bloat and crapware.

I have the international version. Just saying I'm I'm the USA as something was mentioned on first Page about LG9 and Asian. Browsing from phone now, have to do more research. Still new to droid
It won't do any damage to your phone if it is the intl version, it just may not be optimized for your particular network (HD voice, fast dormancy) and on the other hand it may be just fine.
tbh there is no official firmware for the intl s3 on American networks.
In fact there is a thread here for setting up the intl version on at&t by ceo.mtcl, look it up.
It won't do any harm to your phone tho, I'm in Ireland running a custom rom and its lg9.

GT-I9300 4.3 VDF Ireland flashing on other carrier phones?

Well, I am starting this thread because of frustration...
the frustration of bricking my O2 UK SG3 I9300 using the Irish VDF OTA update ROM...
anyone had a similar experience?...
I was happily using 4.2.2 leaked version since it was released, but the temptation was too big not to take the plunge...
when I flashed with Odin 3.04 the 4.3 VDF update stayed stuck on updating CACHE which is unusual, then failed, and the dreaded rom flashing error exclamation mark message appeared on the phone...
so I reflashed it back to 4.2.2, though it took about 3 attempts and sweating to succeed...
my guess is that it is not such a good idea to flash one carrier release onto antother carrier phone (even if unlocked as is mine)... and I will instead now wait for O2 to release theirs....
come to think of it, some posts saying the Ireland VDF 4.3 release is not so hot vindicates patience in this case...
Are you asking a question ???
You did not have carrier firmware on your phone when you flashed 4.3 so its not carrier to carrier problem .

No I was not asking a question, I was relating my frustated experience...
but I would love to hear why it was not possible for me to flash it successfully, despite being able to flash 4.2.2 and the correct phone modem successfully... so far twice...
Be best if the mods made a 4.3 discussion thread so user experience of 4.3 could be shared .
Bad download? Connection error? EMMC bad blocks?
It has nothing to do with your carrier.
Try another 4.3 ROM, there are several remixed, rooted ones now. Check the MD5 before you flash.

weird...
maybe the fact that I have the leaked 4.2.2 rom flashed already makes it a problem?
I might try again, but it is a pain if it fails again, and I have to revert yet again to 4.2.2 -
the zip download did not show any error, so it is not a bad download...

[Q] I9300 wrong Network

Hi I am hoping someone can help me out a bit,
I decided today to root and flash my I9300 to 4.4, I done a Titanium Backup and read everything I think I needed to.
Rooted phone successfully using Odin, so decided to look for a decent Rom to flash too. I decided on C-RoM-KK-v6.1-20140421-i9300 from this website,
everything seems to be working great, except that my Network Operator keeps swapping to TMobile instead of EE, I have checked my IMEI number to what it was originally and it hasn't changed, but even when changing networks manually to Orange (EE) it keeps changing back to TMobile.
Please if anyone has any ideas I would be grateful.
Thanks in advance.
Factory reset and flash the latest stock firmware with odin, then test.

Thanks, it's back to stock rom and working with EE (Orange) but still not sure why it would keep swapping from EE to TMobile on a 4.4 rom.
4.4 is not official so you can expect minor issues to happen.
