You're runnning LUX (which, according to this site is the version for Luxembourg) but you're in San Diego? Is it an imported phone?
I'm on LUXALE5 too (Luxembourg) and so far no official update (as usual... we always get Samsung updates with a huge delay)
You can flash any other version through Odin or CWM. However I don't think the call issues are related to the firmware; do you have any special 3. party apps (sound mixer, equalizers, call recorders ...) installed?
yea its imported. i bought it off amazon. i do not have any third party apps installed or anything installed. no EQ's either. i. using straight talk but its not that. i put my sim in my other phone and it worked.

You don't have to root your phone to flash any official firmware using Odin PC. However, you do have to root your phone to use Odin Mobile.
thank you kind sir

If you're rooted kies won't let you update. You would have to unroot and then upgrade with kies which is probably not worth the hassle as the custom roms on xda are probably far better than what is available on kies.

Its my first android phone, and I hear cyanogen does not fully support SGS2 yet, and that it does not have hardware acceleration. So if ice cream sandwich is released, how can I update? I heard 2.3.6 or 5 is already out for SGS2.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Most of the custom roms on xda are 2.3.6. Cyanogen will probably release ics first and then you will see it appear on xda. There are a couple of ics developer leaks but they are buggy. It could be as late as April before you see an official release mybe longer for some carriers.

Why ? My SGS2 rooted using zergrush method connects flawlessly to Kies, and software version is displayed correctly. I think that if phone is only rooted and not flashed with some PDA/PHONE/CSC combination that is unknown for KIES it can be upgraded this way, but of course root will be lost, so IMHO Mobile Odin with everroot will be far better way.
@marcadam: wat is ics?
@slig: wat is everroot? Is it like u wont loose root ever again? How do I get that?
Sorry im still kinda new to android, after days of research I found n used cfroot to root my fone... Didnt try any other sort of hack yet...
Thanks alot both of u...

1. Root will be lost, if you flash a new rom (unless its a non-wipe rom)
2. ICS(Ice Cream Sandwich) is the newest android version, also called "Android 4.0".
3. "Mobile Odin with everroot" he mentioned is an app that is installed on your phone, wich does exactly the same as the flashing Software(Odin) on your computer, wich you used, to flash a custom rom.
4. I don't suggest, updating with Kies, because many people reported, that it bricked their phones.
I suggest, that you flash CWM(Clockworkmod Recovery) on your phone, and use that(Its the most popular way to update/flash/backup/restore a ROM).

Is it possible to flash stock Samsung roms via CWM ? I thought that CWM is for flashing customs, original stocks can be flashed only by Odin (or Kies).
If the rom is made for flashing with CWM then yes. (Most rom's are made for flashing with CWM) if you can't find a cwm compatible stock version, then i can upload you one I made(newest stock version 100% stock).

No you lose nothing in KIES and dependant upon codes you may even get an update .
But why root unless an app requires root .

because carriers from my country add loads of bloatware that are useless and crashing a lot so cleaning up a bit isn't bad
thanks for the quick answer btw
my sgs2 (GT-I9100) is promting for update but is unnsucessful when trying to innstall, i guess since it's rooted. so i recently download chainfire's mobile odin pro and wanted to flash the update with it using ever root. but i am having a hard time locateing the fw file.
does anybody know where it is stored and is it even possible to use the update downloaded by the phone?
and yes i'm pretty much new to the whole phone hacking scene...
awsome forum by the way! it sets the forum standard to a whole new level!
I do not know if and where Kies stores firmware files.
But as you already have Mobile Odin just use Check Fus to download the firmware and Mobile Odin to flash it.
I'm not using kies, i'm using the update manager on the phone.
Thanks i'll check it out later

Hello,
I've done some searching and have seen some with the same issue. When I go to update it says:
"Failed to update firmware due to network or server problem. Try update update.. or try using kies."
Message started out of the blue a couple weeks ago.
Kies says I'm up to date. Tried through Mac and PC
Went to recovery and cleared cache and tried again. Saw that advised on another forum. Tried on 3G and different wifi networks. Possibly Samsung server error, but strange it lasted for weeks?
Baseband is I9300BULF1. Not rooted or anything.
This is my first Android. Mainly trying to isolate if an update is available or not and if there is a problem how to resolve.
just wondering if kies is up to date? Worth a check, personally I never use that rubbish, Odin for me!
thanks for reply.
I had checked and made sure Kies was up to date. I mainly use Mac, had just downloaded a version for PC, but made sure was latest version.
From what I see there are different versions based on region, etc.. Not sure if/how to tell what the latest version should be.
Latest firmware to flash is LG9 firmware.
It doesn't matter where you are, you can still flash it.
Go to samfirmware.com and you'll find the latest and you can flash it via Odin, way easier than that ota nonsense.
I've had 6 android phones and never once have I waited for an ota.

Thanks for that link. I set file to download so should be ready by when I get in.
I have this file downloading
"Singapore (StarHub) 2012 July 4.0.4 I9300XXBLG9 I9300OLBBLG2"
From latest search that was the only one I saw with LG9
looking up info on odin as well. Looks like that's PC only program, but no problem.
Going to give this a go tonight.
Thanks
Lg8 is the same but European version I think so depending where you are it may be advisable to flash that, I'm fairly certain lg9 is the Asian version of lg8 so may not have your csc if you aren't Asian?

Yes, good point.
All custom roms are based on lg9 but then again they are all multi csc.
At the end of the day the csc doesn't really matter, its only related to carrier/location based bloat and crapware.

I have the international version. Just saying I'm I'm the USA as something was mentioned on first Page about LG9 and Asian. Browsing from phone now, have to do more research. Still new to droid
It won't do any damage to your phone if it is the intl version, it just may not be optimized for your particular network (HD voice, fast dormancy) and on the other hand it may be just fine.
tbh there is no official firmware for the intl s3 on American networks.
In fact there is a thread here for setting up the intl version on at&t by ceo.mtcl, look it up.
It won't do any harm to your phone tho, I'm in Ireland running a custom rom and its lg9.

Had the same here.
Flashed the Three UK modem (NELE4 I think) over XXLG8 on my unbranded unit -> people couldn't hear me
Flashed back the modem matching the firmware -> all good
I guess I'll have to wait for Three to update their modem to work with later firmware.

I'd say you answered your question yourself. If you can use the voice search function fine, then your microphone is still fully functional. You should rather ask the person who was calling you if his/her phone is still working alright. I've had the same problems and it was either:
The German Telekom performing maintanence on their network
or
The other party's phone crashed.
.
No. You cannot receive stock Samsung OTA updates if you're rooted. You can, however, get OTA updates from CyanogenMod. (And yes. Before anyone says anything, it DOES download deltas as well as the fully fledged software. It's just a matter of the app you're using and the settings you have set.)
Hope I could help!

You will need a PC. If you were rooted you could download the flashable zip and have it. But again you need a PC to root!
Sorry!
So you don't know anyone with a PC?
You don't need to be rooted to flash the zip version -- you just need CWR or TWRP.
So, have you installed a recovery?
I havn't installed recovery yet, im new to this, but do I download a recovery and then once I do this, what would I use to flash? Ty

From a pure stock phone:
Plan A: Download Kies software (google for it). Install Kies software, connect phone to pc, and let the phone upgrade to 4.1.2. Phone will be pure stock JB.
Plan B: Download JB update file from development section. Download Odin3 software - find it by googling "odin3 1.85". Then run odin software, reboot phone in download mode, connect to pc, and install JB update. Phone will be pure stock JB.
Plan C: Wait a few days and you will get a software update notification. Accept the terms, and phone will update itself to pure stock JB.
If you don't have access to a pc you will have to wait a few. The last ICS update took only four days to hit the phones after the release on the world wide interweb.
I updated but its really not different than 4.0.4 ICS . . . No new features but lots of extra bloatware from at&t.

It is highly doubtful that this update will be released as an OTA. Better start looking for a PC or go to a friends house.
Why not, Amigo? And do you think that will leave out Canadian phones too?
Almost 800MBs is quite high for an OTA update especially since this is a totally new OS with different partitioning. More likely it will be a Kies update only. Should be no difference for Canadian versions once released. Time will tell and this is only my educated guess by experience. I know I have read that it can be received OTA but nobody that I have seen has reported it yet.
Probably right. But at&t could break the update into two parts. They did that on a big windows phone update a few years ago. Just a speculation.
I know at least telus made the ics update ota..
It's doable, not even that outlandish really, cause Going from ics to jb would be pretty much the same as gingerbread to ics...
oem roms of all 3 android versions have been relatively the same size and partitioning can be done on device within the update script.
It being possible and them doing it are different arguments though lol
