is if there was a facebook app (3rd party alternative) for the galaxy tab?
it seems to be gone from the market.
Friend Me for Facebook is a great app for tablets
FriendCaster Tab for Facebook is also a great app, but it is still Beta and crashes a lot.
Personally I'm FriendCaster Tab for now and it has a lot of nice features
I have no problem just using the full FB website on my Tab.
Same as tried friendcaste and friend me but not complete so just use the web

Great post! Never even thought about using the web. Will try that
No matter what you use, the full site, the mobile site, or the sideloaded phone app...it is near impossible to tag people properly (just one complaint). In the full site you click a pic and it opens in that theater/lightbox popup thingy over the page, and if you click on the pic to tag, the tagging prompt opens but then when you click in it to start typing a name, it just goes away and you have to start again. You can never really get it. And I don't think the app lets you tag at all.
I am still in utter disbelief that there is no official Android tablet Facebook app. I mean, what's the holdup? Isn't this at the top of someone's (Facebook and/or Google/Android) to-do list?? I just don't understand.....it's been months now...

uhh, It should be pointed out that there is no official Facebook app for the iPad either.
I paid for friendcaster and loved it, I even used it on my phone over the official Facebook app but the last update ruined it for me on both devices. The news feed will leave stuff out and now on my tab I can't connect it to my contacts. I also have heywire texting app and it would pull the pictures from the contacts so I could see a pic of the person I am texting instead of just a name. Also when I click a photo someone posted it will load a completely different photo from the album.
I hope it gets work out in a new update, I finally paid for the app and less than a week later the update hit so for now I just go to the site.

Two ways to do this...
1. With stock browser, everytime you open it you have to change the browser settings to desktop mode. This is handled in other forums and is really a pain in the butt because the settings don't stick.
2. Download for free one of the other browsers from the market, I use dolphin for pad. In the settings you can have it permanently set to desktop mode. This allows for the chat to show up on the website as if you were on a computer.
I personally use the website to check my stuff and use one of two free apps for chatting. Either go chat or the friendcaster chat.

So I used to run the desktop ua mod and I could see the chat in the stock browser. My problem, however, is that after typing I am unable to send the message. Pressing enter just clears out the text and nothing seems to get sent.
Same thing when I try dolphin or opera

Hi guys, ive looked all around the web trying to find a solution but i cant say i found something yet so here it is.
I have a Nokia N900 right now and as much as i like it, its getting old, so im slowly looking for a new phone.
I feel like i might have been spoiled by the N900 multitasking and i want to know if my requirement for my new are possible to have.
So here it is: Is it possible to multitask with multiple instances of some applications? Really its only for email and sms, so i can for example copy text from one email, paste it in another one that is also open at the same time and can switch back and forth between them. In other words, can i have multiple sms/email conversations opened at the same time (one conversation with bob, one with jack, one with dave...) i often have more than 10-15 of them open at the same time on my n900 and if there would be only one reason for me to keep my phone it would be that.
I looked for multitasking apps with grid view hoping it would do that but from what i see you can only have one of those apps running at once anyway and it might seem crazy but for the number of time I switch between conversations on my n900, like i would using WLM for example, this could be a major dealbreaker for me if its not possible.
I'm sorry if it looks like a stupid question or something but ive completely missed the bus regarding android/ios/bb developpement as i used wm6.5 then switched directly to maemo5 2 years ago.
no one, really?
I don't think it works this way on Android, though you just might be able to find an app that does this.
thanks for the input
Sup Neo! I too went from the N900 to a GSII and I find myself not regretting it at all. There is no TRUE multitasking like the N900, at all from what I have found.
I'm not sure if any apps have been made available for such multi tasking, but I don't think anyone here who doesn't have N900 experience will understand what we mean.
Now it just needs an N900 writer to make something happen for android. Otherwise, I do NOT regret switching over, I absolutely love the speed and freedom of my new phone. The N900 was killing me on simple tasks like sending and receiving MMS, or connecting to the internet without destroying my battery life. No regrets.

Yo. Most Android apps can support multitask on its own UNLESS the developer has puposely disable it.
iOS and Android don't run in Windows style, ie, you can open 2 Mozilla Firefox windows at the same time. Copy and paste work the same as the pc.
So I guess you would have problems in the multiple email opening thing, most phones cannot.
So my suggestion is to keep your N900 as a email phone and change to android or iPhone as your main phone.

Having two phones would suck, and I'm sure he would get over the whole multi tasking issue after a week of using the SII
But I have to say, nothing is as impressive as bouncing around from different windows, and different text messages, and different apps as much as you want.
You just can't substitute for it

Ok OK so Android does have "True" multi-tasking
I would like to see it have Multiple Visible applications running at once and accessible between each other. Maybe that's what we should say when we want to see "Real" multitasking, and not just "true" multitasking.
Once again, still satisfied, but we have a craving that we want to fill as well sometimes.
I would like to see android implement this. Webos(palm/hp) had "card style" applications windows and it was epic. That's said, I'm back to android. Just sayin

Hmm, depends what kind of multitasking you like, the one that actually let's you fully quits apps or one that is fully automated, meaning that you just use it without doing anything and still feel the multitasking, ie you press the home button and it still runs, however you may not notice it, until u use the same app again. However, this means you have to restart every night, to really close the apps, otherwise android will manage for you.
So it means that apps run indefinitely, and when you reopen the app, it will revert to what you did before, you can complete task like scanning eg those with a progress bar and you will see it filling the bar until completion even in the homescreen or other apps, and as I said, unless the developer wants to close the app when you are not using it.

That's Androids Multitasking in a Nutshell, completely understand how it works and it does work well I might add. But it's just the extra step of being able to visually locate the running apps and access them. If you look at your Task Killer for example, you see the running tasks correct? But in order to use them, you have to navigate to the app and click it, no matter where it is on your system.
What I would love to see would be more of a Click and Open option to viewing your running tasks. Sort of like a back screen when you Zoom Out of your desktop on android. The same way you can see all of your desktops, you would be able to see all of your running apps and select which one to open, or to close.

That looks very interesting, is that for ICS? Even if it were for only one instance of each app, it would be more than we have now.
I just hate going from one app, to sending a text, to opening that app again. But I am not dying without it, that's for sure

Yup I just discovered that and it works like a charm. Not a replacement but for now that will satisfy my needs.
Look, I'm not arguing with anyone here, just explaining the idea behind what us N900 users were used to and how useful it would be if implemented in android, this is all.

I suppose this is your first android phone? We're having a discussion here no worries. Yeah but if android were to use the window thing, there would be 10-20 Windows everytime. That's where the homescreen comes, just drag all your frequently used apps there and done, the so called window is done

Andriod multitasks. You can have a ton of apps open at the same time and switch between them. However you can not have more then one instance of the same app running. So while you cant open say gmail and open multiple mails in seperate frames you can still switch between say a web page and mail.
There might be so great mail apps out there that handle mail seperatly, im just not sure which would do it. Bottom line,x the android OS is more then capable of doing what you want. Someone just needs to make or find the app for your needs.

That's just it, that would be the thing I KNOW android doesn't have yet wish it did. We all know we can't have more than one instance of the same app running at once, that much is clear. But having it would be the part I crave, and I'm sure others as well.
Imagine being able to reference to a previous text with someone else whenever you want to while working on another text with someone different.
Like I said, I UNDERSTAND YOU CAN'T DO IT, I just wish you could!
and I wish people would stop explaining it to me lol, I KNOW, and I'm not asking for anyone to tell me how it works. I'm just saying, it would be nice, this is all!
also, being able to bounce from Xterm to open notepads or texts to anything, now that is how you process info on a phone. We'll never be satisfied, but for now I am.
Thanks for the replies fellas.

Chill man, ease on the caps
It gets really annoying that even when I get a single picture in a text, it plays it like a slideshow. Is there any fix for this, or any other way to disable it?
Aside from getting Handcent or GOSms that is.
Running CM9 btw.
Might want to post in the cm9 thread that you're using. It might be a bug with the rom that the developer could fix.
Nah, it's like that in every rom I've used. It's not a bug, its a "feature" of Android.

Not a feature in any android rom I've used. Never have I gotten a single pic come thru as a slideshow on stock messaging or handcent.
You can long press on the message and press on download attachments. Then you could watch the pictures full sized on the gallery without any forced slideshow. I know it doesnt really fix things, but it's the workaround I use.

That's strange cuz I click on the pic and it asks which viewer I want to use when opening.
does this annoy anyone else?
if I take a photo, and I want to email it to someone.. there are a gazillion different 'share' options but none of them are gmail. yet if it recognises someones face (good luck with that), then I can gmail it.
does anyone know a way to reenable gmail sharing via the gallery?
I couldn't work it out either and it was really bugging me. I really don't know why it is not in the standard list, but this is how to do it:
Go to the thumbnail of the photo you wish to email and press and hold on it for a second or so. When it is highlighted you then press the "share' button up the top. Then you are able to email, MMS, etc.
I really don't like it, but that seems to be the way to do it from the gallery.
I hope this helps.
What are you firmware details?
Sounds like you really need to update to the latest firmware release.
You probably won't find anything by checking through KIES, so just flash through Odin manually. (Backup to PC before).
I've have that option (always had), and currently running ALFE6.

Thanks! The share icon is so weird, for anyone else looking it's a icon with 3 dots and lines drawn between them.
Has anyone found how to remove face tags? I like the feature but I have an image with a bunch of yellow squares drawn over it and would only like the ones that actually have a face.

thankyou sir. seems like a bug.
i guess you need to be in the 'grid view' of gallery for this to work. shame because that's not easy to get to if you just take a photo and review your shots and want to email it.
someone asked about firmware.. i'm on.. i don't even care. i spent two years pissing around with custom roms with an htc desire. i don't have time in my life for that anymore.. just need a very stable daily driver. will wait for kies..
I never loved Sense but I have learned to like it but I have 2 issues:
The main issue is the HTC gallery. I think is junk compared to stock. I have a lot of galleries on Picasa and Drop box. All of my Motorola and Samsung phones that have the stock gallery must store the thumbnails locally where as HTC download them each time. It takes forever to find a picture I am looking for. Also you have no ability to text or email a picture from one of those sources. It only sends a link that does not work unless I give my login and password. I have instead try to open it myself from the browser and then download it and send.
The 2nd is the htc text message app. Every software revision I have tried does it. 1, On the text notification from the lock screen, if someone texts you as part of a group message and you drag it down to directly go to it, it brings you to the single thread you have with that contact, not the recent message. The 2nd issue is many times I open I thread, it starts at the top of the thread. This could be months or weeks back and that scroll bar is a pain in the ass to grab to keep pulling it to the bottom.
Please let me know if anyone knows of a ROM or Mod I can try to fix this. Every Senseless ROM I have tried still maintains the HTC messenger and gallery.
Thanks,
Dave
I know on sense 5 the messaging problems are fixed, but not the gallery issues you listed.

It might be a good thing that the DNA gallery has to download the pics from cloud services each time. I have a Note 2 and it caches Facebook and Dropbox photos and it was filling up my phone memory (you can't switch it to SD card) and the gallery was STILL super slow.
With only 11 gigs of usable space on the DNA, we don't really want it caching all of those photos.
