Hi guys,
I have an SI number of 1246-9893 and i am sadly still waiting on the ICS update for my phone from sony.
I've been toying with the idea of flashing the standard ICS rom but have a few questions;
1 - in flashing a standard ICS rom, will i lose the annoying xperia timescape overlay? I've been using launcher pro for years and love it, but i'd far rather use the standard system with android, but i can't due to sony's overlay with the funny coloured dock etc if you get me!
2 - Is there a way to remove the annoying bloatware that came on my phone? I'm assuming that flashing a bog standard ICS rom will remove these programs that i never use?
3 - Can anyone suggest a suitable ROM that fits the criteria above if it exists? I've heard there is a standard ICS rom available, would that be the best bet? I'd prefer a ROM thats as close to the original as possible, the fancy features of some of the ROMS aren't really what i'm after, just something that runs faster with the nice touches that ICS has over gingerbread.
Thank you in advance for any help if i take some time replying, dodgy connection at the moment.
And apologies if this is in the wrong section.
Cheers
you can try out the ics pureness in dev section, i havent tried it but should be ok, or KA21.1...

try ice cream pureness 10
it is gr8 rom with no bloatware !!
Thanks for the replies.
Is there an official ICS rom, made by Android themselves that i can flash do you know?

I was able to play with an X10 and I should say that the hardware is really nice and slick. It looks and feels great, and this is not unusual for SE.
The software, however, sucks big time. Not only it is Android 1.6 based, but it is quite sluggish (it just doesn't feel like a 1GHz Snapdragon device!) and has none of the HTC Sense widgets goodness, nor anything else (and don't even get me started with this strange "timescape" thing). Huge disappointment. Android 1.6 vanilla ROM would've probably been a better choice.
Therefore, the only reason I would consider this device is if I am able to flash a custom ROM on it. And since I REALLY like Sense, I'd love to see it on-board.
Has anyone heard if there are any upcoming X10 custom ROMs?
Thanks in advance!
Man dont wanna be rude but why don you read the other threads? Custom roms are only possible when rootin will be achieved. And atm its not possible. Hopefully in a month or so..but nothing for now. And its not sluggish at all.. Mine runs 20 apps and its v fast. Download some taskkiller if you havnt already.

.......................why dont you save yourself the trouble of putting a custom rom on it and just buy a htc?
I know installing roms is not rocket science. But it amazes me that done people can even do that.
Lol @ OP's
knowledge/reading fail.
@rayarny
Did you ever see it running next to a HTC legend? The legend is way smoother on the homescreen, like the fps count seems to be double that of the x10.

I happen to have both Legend and x10 (well.. actually the Legend is my wifes.)..
Legend smooth... maybe.. a tiny bit.. but it's also a much smaller screen so imperfections like that are more easily hidden.
Certainly NOT enough of a difference to affect the user experience.
This forum is getting out of hand. It is supposed to deal with Rom development.
Is there a moderator that can move the threads to general?

Well, HTC Desire is my second option
It's just that I really like the X10 hardware - it looks and feels very nice. And the screen is a bit bigger.
I recently sold my desire to get an X10, much nicer phone, all we need is Root, and its the best about

I´m very confused with the number of options in ROMs for Xperia X10. With the amazing jog of so many developers, i just can't choose a ROM for me.
So i´m asking. Which is the best ROM (speed, stability and feature wise) for people who don't want to loose features of the phone (especially camcorder, camera and wifi)?
Thnks!
If you wan HD camcorder, you can only stay at stock rom.
I am using go3asy's 2.1 rom honeycomb look. It everything work n smoother than stock rom.

Gotta agree with that . Here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=949457
I'm using the latest stock ROM with all good tweaks to make it very fast and responsive.

I hd install Eminence's ROM once, and I satisfy with it. But after latest update from SEUS, my x10i is not able to use this ROM anymore. It just stuck on boot animation. Any idea how to fix this?
But I will try to install honeycom one. It seem better.Still downloading. Thanks for the information. Thanks...

I hope they can come up with a fix for this soon
It is the only reason why I'm still with stock rom.
stock rom maybe . eclair 2.1
Look like i´ll be on stock for a while.
Let's hope developers solve the problem with the camcorder on 2.2 and 2.3 soon. Maybe Arc shed a light on the cause of this.
well
the last i was on eclair
i was usin this kx rom
its nice n fast n everythin works

Best ROM for those who don't want to lose functionality? Stick to the official SE firmware [including official updates].
Sony don't give a crap if we run 2.2, 2.3, or even 2.4/3.0 on it - and it's because of the simple fact that it's just a firmware. That's all what it really is. Only 'firmware' and *not* a ROM.
It's the consequence of SE's DRM stronghold on the encrypted bootloader, signed with a 1024 bit RSA key. We're looking at years of bruteforcing to be able to break in, which frankly neither is feasible nor worth the while.
And that is why nobody from SE cared enough to even bat an eyelid when one XDA user mailed their tech support representative complete with screenshots of his X10 running the 2.2.1 firmware, a link to a thread from XDA alongwith some XDA Dev namedropping. It's easy to realize that if this was a significant development, SE would've been all over our [XDA's] ass a long long time ago.
As much as I hate it, I think it's about time we came to terms with the reality. A fully functioning port is not going to happen. Atleast not until someone manages to dethrone the bootloader from it's current position
And no, it's not because the Dev's here don't have the technical know how required to do so, but rather it's because SE have ensured it wouldn't be worth anybody's while attempting a go at it.
Sad but true.

If you wanna go to GB then i would recommend you Codename 7 by emannxperia.
Its the fastest and most stable GB rom for neo V.

when i think back i think to remember that the apps were instant open when i clicked on contacts or some other app... do i maybe just remember wrong?

Hi, if you have unlocked bootloader you can try Polish blood. Fastest among the few roms I've tried. If you're into customization, give Miui4 a shot. Both are ICS 4.0.4 btw, though they are much better than the stock one.
Polish blood:

and if you have locked bootloader you can try jj's hybrid faster and lighter then stock 4.0.4 and stable...
JJ's Hybrid: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542115
I also recommend you the Polish Blood if u have an unlocked bootloader. It is really the fastest rom I've ever used. I became obsessed with free ram issue and this rom has more than 200 mb free ram. It has some minor bugs but they are not important for me now and they will also be fixed in the next releases. No need to go back to 2.3.4 I think. 4.0.4 is also good now.
If you care about visualization or something different you can try miui roms like Dctuazon mentioned too.
However you can not know if you do not try. It is your choice!!
i already installed 2.3.4 again :S
i also installed the codename 7 and its really really fast
it was a lot of work to reinstall the whole phone but now it works ablolutly perfect.
thanks to all

Hi guys, I'm here to ask you your help in this passage.
The mentioned passage is the one from gb to ics.
I'm really satisfied from my phone because I'm a normal user: my 01 is my phone, my mp3 player, my little console and it lets me go on internet very quickly.
When ics had just been come out, I've decided I would have used only when it would have become stable, smooth and completely working.
Now here we are. I see the ics roms are finally good for daily use.
I'm on oxygen and I want to flash an ics rom. But which one?
I'm undecided between three roms. Those are:
-hephappy's CM9
-Arjen's CM9
-williamcharles's aokp ICS
I've already said I'm a normal user: I want my phone is smooth, battery friendly and almost bugless. It's time for me to switch from gb to ics? And if yes, which rom should I flash? Thanks for your attention and answers
I don't think you'll find any ics roms quite as smooth as gb but I would tell you to try each one for a week and go from there!
sent from my lgp500+ gingersnap1.2+pp1.7
I get a lot of random reboots with build 40 aokp ics and hehappys bluepill ice version was very sluggish after using an ext3 partition with link2sd..maybe because the memory was low...if you want customization. Use aokp...it feels slightly faster than William Charles from. I haven't tried arjens nightly ics rom. AFAIK, hehappy and williamcharles ics roms are the only ones to have the latest updates
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
So the best way I can do it It's to try it?
If you are on Oxygen then I must say you already have the best one!
I have tried all but came back to Oxygen.
The forums keeps getting spammed with threads like this. There are no other person than yourself who can wait the best suitable rom for your device. Try the ones available and keep the one you like the best

Hi,
I have just got the Xperia U for the wife and was wondering if its worth 'upgrading' it to ICS before giving it to her.
It has to be stable, and quick. She is coming from a Galaxy ace so I know this phone will feel quicker straight away cus its better spec'd. I just dont know if its worth keeping it on gingerbread cus she will NOT be flashing custom roms like the majority of us do on here.!!!!
What do youse think I should do?
I had to do this recently for my mum.
Flash the C firmware, root it and add cwm.
Delete all the pointless apps, delete the boot and shutdown animations from t mobile. Flash the 4.7.2 camera mod and status bar toggles. It seems really nice to use so far! She's not compained about anything so far with it
Sent from my Jellybean Xperia S
thanks! this is a great little phone. nice and user friendly. kinda wanted to keep it stock for her tho, cus the more i change the more likely im guna grab the phone off her and check it for kernel updates etc. !
I do like the idea of removing all the junk software that lots of branded phones come with. But the one i got her is already unlocked and doesnt come with a lot of bloat as standard.
maybe i should of asked, shall i keep this phone Stock Gingerbread, or stock ICS?
Technically what I said is still stock ics, it just removes the junk to make the phone smoother and faster

ah i didnt realise the C firmware u mentioned was stock ICS t-mobile, i understand now. thanks m8
Yea. It's the latest firmware. But the only available version is branded t mobile, hence the root and removing like i did. Then its just a plain rom again

ICS is loads quicker, I put on the b54 one I think it was as its generic, then I just rooted and removed some of the junk and it runs well, loads better than GB.

You should go for ICS, it's quite smooth and easy to use. Also install one of those apps that makes the transparent bar work as notification light.
Yeah.. you should go with the ICS...
Having this same thought, for my gf that recently got an Xperia U.
The thing is, it works fine for her now. Would it be oh so much better for her to upgrade to ICS.
It at least needs to be just as snappy as Gingerbread and I'm reading quite some negative reviews about the ICS update. Less snappy and everything. Confusing reviews as you all here are very positive about the ICS update.
But you can hear it coming already if ICS makes it slower "Sweety, you made my phone slow!!!"
