Games are lagging. Specifically Home run Battle 2 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is anyone else experiencing lag while playing games? When I'm playing my favorite game, Home Run Battle 2, it will lag to a unplayable point sometimes. Other times it will run fine but usually this requires a system reboot. I've also heard people experiencing lag while playing Temple Run and Riptide. Some say that the lag is only there while running the stock Rom and that it goes a way running a different rom. Is anyone else experiencing lag while running the stock rom?

please use correct forum/sub-forum for your device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1706"

I already asked this question in the Tmobile sub forum however, I figure I ask it here as well since it appears to be a software issue and not a hardware issue (hence why I included the possibility of people not experiencing this issue with anything but the stock rom).

Use the Q & A forum for this discussions..however I have never faced any lag while playing any games..NOVA 3 runs fine..Asphalt7 runs fine..Deadtrigger runs fine..I dont think there are any more graphic intensive games currently..clear cache from the app..reboot and then try..if that does not work..clear data from the app..this will erase all your gaming history from the game..recommend taking a TB backup before this..reboot again and then try..
hope it helps

Different gpu so you are best asking in your own forum.

It's not the reason. The same games run fine on every other ROM besides the stock one. If it was GPU related then it would lag using any ROM.

They have said something. I just told you what they said. All of them say that they only experience the issue with the stock Rom. I proposed the question here to see if anyone with the Unlocked GS3 was having the same issue. You obviously spoke for everyone here so I got my answer.
I'm trying to narrow down a issue. After all, I thought that is what we do here.

I know what your point is. But looking back if everyone of i9300 find something strange and go asking in your forum, which is never related in anyway by software, hardware, etc. What will you feel?
I say again our phone are not related in any way, just a phone name. It's like you have a problem with i9300 and go asking in i9100 forum.

After looking through some threads, it appears some are experiencing lag while playing certain games (one of the games I mentioned...Riptide). This is a issue because Riptide runs smooth on my Tegra 3 powered device.

Hey, I know I have a different device than everyone involved in this thread, but I found this by means of Google while I was trying to figure out why I was getting terrible lag on homerun battle 2 on my gtab2 7.0. I figure someone else with same problem, different device will stumble across this as I did, especially since it was the first result given by Google. Anyways, the solution I found was: go into your device settings, find accessibility, look for zoom gestures. If zoom gestures is enabled, disable it. This feature picks up on the tap from homerun battle 2 and jet pack joy ride, temple run, anything that requires a quick tap. Your device thinks you want to zoom in and it causes almost a whole second delay. I hope this helps someone, as it was quite frustrating for me. I'm not sure, but I think zoom gestures feature is 4.1.x+

lag issues? i'm not familiar with blade buddy or that touch screen app for galaxy.
i haven't done anything *too* intensive on the phone but i have rarely experience any type of lag on this device. the lack of lagging has been very impressive to me.
if you are on the stock ROM and kernel and still experiecing lag, based on my personal experience, you might want to look into taking it back for an exchange as it could be a hardware issue.
if you don't experience the lag on a stock ROM and kernel, it might be whatever custom ROM or kernel you're using has an issue or bug. if you're on a custom ROM/kernel, also good to check in those specific threads to see if anybody else has reported a similar issue so the dev knows to look into it and resolve.
hope that helps!
Yea when I first got the phone the xda east major laggy and that's before I rooted so I guess I need to take it back then cuz this sucks...since I rooted its been flawless but couple days later the lag would come back and now my screen is becoming unresponsive at time for like 2-3 secs!!!

yea. as a last resort test, i'd flash everything back to stock and run it for a day. see if its still laggy. if it is still laggy, find good examples of when it lags so when you take it back, you can show the person how laggy it is through the examples.
hopefully you can swap out for a device w/no issues!

lol yea, given the unknown area rooting a device currently sits from a legal standpoint, i'd avoid anything related to rooting the device as a prime example.
ideally, if you're experiencing lag on the device, it will occur frequently in common tasks like making/ending a phone call or moving between text messages or moving between menus in the settings screen, etc. it makes the best case for having an issue when you're able to demonstrate it lags during normal routine operations.
hope that helps!

hah yea. working on mainly two small apps on the market, root check and flashimagegui. pondering publishing the completely stock ROM with root, busybox and some developer tools i use on my personal device (as I did publish this on the evo and it was decently popular - might be where you saw my name). also, trying to help out (give back) in the q&a boards when i can!
if you find some good common tasks which cause the device to lag, post them back here as people with the same or similar issues might find this thread through searching and it'll give them some rough benchmark to compare against.
i've yet to see this device lag through any common tasks i run. previous android phones ive had would experience lag so this device has definitely impressed me!

[Q] Modern Combat 3 Lag

I have had this game on my Atrix 4G, it runs great. But now I have upgraded to Amaze 4G, the graphics looks much more enhanced but it is significantly slower (lags bad, about 5-10 fps)
Anyone else got this game running smoothly? I am not rooted yet, I just got my phone couple of days ago.
I tried the following:
- Force close HTC sense (Thought it might be a performance hog)
- Wiping the app data
Asphalt 6 runs buttery smooth, I am not sure what is wrong
Im getting kinda of a different problem. Whenever i try to turn the character it will stop halfway and most the time it wont work:/

I'm not familiar with faceniff and I've never used Wi-Fi kill so I don't know how much they push you're phone. Are you overclocking or undervolting? Maybe you're using one of flapp's performance settings? If it's always just those two apps and it does it every time, then maybe you should run a logcat to help diagnose the issue.

Both apps have run on other Android devices (most of which running gb) with out any hitches. I'm not OC or UV this rom. But it is a fair guess. I think I'll try an actual rom and see if i get the same results.

agreed, had a HTC Sensation before the LGOG and running some of the CM10 roms would cause chrome to bug out in exactly the same way all the time (like had to use stock browser cause this happened so frequently).
It has to be chrome. It happened again. But when I press home key it blows my whole screen up. I'm going to write Google a letter.

I've built many pcs over the years and that was a sign of either a bad gpu or one clocked too high.. not sure how a stable app would (or could) do that... just my opinion.
I run the freegee kernel. No gpu overclock. I think. Wouldn't it be more than just chrome app if it was hardware?

As a driver software engineer, I disagree. It looks to me more like the software is attempting to use a different rendering mode than the hardware is configured for at the time.

Specifically, the tiling makes me think that portion of the view isn't being drawn in the correct resolution or is not being properly converted when it's copied to the frame buffer.

I have had a million similar issues with my phone, LG nitro HD P930. However, the issue only exists on the homescreen itself and not within any apps. Same type of glitches will randomly occur either on the homescreen, the notification drawer, option tab, etc, but not on any specific app. When I switch to an app the phone works fine. These issues happened ever since I switched to CM10, n many other users on our forum on CM10 experiences same issues. I don't believe its chrome, I believe its either cm10 or whichever ROM you're using. Revert back to stock and see if it still happens.

Sure, it's a bug on chrome that happens to only one or two people out of the millions running cm10/jb. If it happens to you too, then you can point a nice finger to google for their buggy app. Otherwise, there are hundred of other possible reasons to a glitch. My reason is cm10, since I am experiencing similar issues ever since I hopped on cm10, never on cm9 or stock. So if you had read my post carefully, I suggested to revert back to stock just to see if chrome is still buggy on stock ICS. If it still is, well, there you have your answer, a buggy app. He can go back to whatever rom he is on. If chrome is fine on ICS, well, then something is up with the ROM he is on. Simple as that.

(never installed on LG G2 cause I was worried knock on/off would break, but never bothered to even try it out lol. /lazy).
All of you say NO lag, is anyone here actually rooted?
I'm rooted, which was fine while running stock...but I've installed Omega (international ROM) and yes, I'm experiencing some lag. I've also lost the "HD" feature while in a call...I'm considering coming back to a debloated version of the stock ROM while maintaining root.
Not rooted here yet. Going to see how long I can last before I feel I need to/get desperate.
I've made up my mind to wait for a TMO custom ROM, the international ROM that i've tried caused me a little bit of lag.

that could just be the result of omega being very early - the OP admits that he hasn't done much with the ROM - just enought to get soemthing out I think - I would imagine it will improve as development progresses.
I flashed omega - saw a little bit of lag and installed LagFree from Playstore - I also have an ap called "Seeder" that i use if Lag becomes an issue - after i installed those, I didn't see any lag issues on Omega - I didn't need to install either one of them on the stock rom - smooth as silk.

Yea, there isn't enough change in the Omega rom that warrants flashing, unless I had an international version of the S5. I'm using the debloat software right now on the stock TMO image and seeing what that's gonna do.
Well sometimes walking up my screen I do get a second or so lag before the screen comes on.

I also don't like losing wifi calling - so for me - an international rom has to be really special to make me want to flash it - but then I have an addiction to flashing - so sometimes I just flash to check it out - and then restore my previous rom - it's a disease...lol..maybe one day I will get help..
It's typical for the regular TouchWiz specific carrier to have issues, especially with bloatware . That's why we won't see the true potential till we start seeing custom Roms. Any phone stock is like a empty canvas
Mostly no lag here. I disabled the Lookout or Lockout, whatever it's called, security thing that kept scanning everything I was doing. Switched to ART. Some other stuff I don't remember. The only lag I experienced was a second delay when pressing the recent apps button. But it's a hell of a lot faster than the S4's. Also switching between pages on the UI was a little stuttery, turning off battery saving mode fixed that. Also don't forget that the battery saving mode limits the CPU.
Ehh, just got my S5 yesterday and am having super lag. Even just typing on the keyboard is laggy and choppy. Flicking around home screens, app drawer, and menus mostly fine... but typing and scrolling through just about every app (including email) is choppy and stutters. Haven't seen it, but friend claims his S5 is fine, so it might just be my phone. ..
Taking it back for an exchange anyways because of screen discoloration issues, maybe I just got a bum unit. Definitely not right though, have never seen so much lag on a phone before.
