Guide on Radio Updating - HTC Rezound

"Updating your radio"
NOTICE: This section is by far the most dangerous sections of all of this stuff. For this reason I will give a warning about what NOT to do before I even tell you what to do. During this process we will be updating the radio. When we go to update the radio it will ask you if you wish to update using the file it has found. You will answer yes and allow it to do the update. Should you mess up at any point and be asked again to do the update, DO NOT DO IT!!! If you update your radio twice with this file, you WILL brick your phone. Once again, DO NOT update the radio twice with this file.
Note: This section can only be done if you have done the previous section, S=off. Also there has been a bit of confusion when trying to update the radio, please ensure that you follow the steps carefully as some people are attempting to update their radio from recovery. Updating your radio is done from HBOOT, not recovery.
Step 1: Locate the "PB98IMG.zip" file you downloaded .
Step 2: Place it on the sdcard (in the bottom directory)
Step 3: Power off your phone.
Step 4: Hold the volume down button and then press and hold the power on button at the same time. This will boot you into a screen that says something about HBOOT.
Step 5: At this point it will scan for a file and find the "PB98IMG.zip" file on your sdcard and ask if you wish to update with it. Select yes.
Step 6: You should see a bar on the right that shows you the loading progress. Once it is done, press the power button and the menu options should change.
Step 7: You should now have an option to reboot your phone, press the volume down button and then the power on button to select it.
Step 8: Once your phone is booted go to settings.
Step 9: Select "About Phone" (At the bottom)
Step 10: Select "Software Information"
Step 11: Ensure that in the "Baseband version" section it says "2.22.XX.XX.XX" (No, not really X's, just any numbers there will do)
Step 12: Install a file manager on your phone. Astro File manager will do.
Step 13: Locate the "PB98IMG.zip" file on your sdcard and delete it. (You want to remove it off of your sdcard so you don't make a mistake and update your radio again, bricking your phone)
Congrats, you now have an updated radio!! (Hopefully a phone that isn't bricked either cause you were sure to follow my warning)

Right? Gotta love that wonderful, elitist XDA attitude.

My apologies, Po1soNNN. My inadequate searching skills didn't answer my questions regarding radios and their functions. Could you be so kind to use yours to link me to a thread so that I might educate myself? I wouldn't want to burden anyone with my ignorance. Thanks in advance for your helpfulness.

Annnnnnndddddd, there still are jerks who continue to be jerks. Apparently Po1soNNN feels this a forum for only those who know everything.
The radio is what communicates with the tower, but not knowing what you are doing with a radio file is the EASIEST way to Brick your phone. You CANNOT touch the radio if you are S-on. S-off is the last layer of security to protect you from yourself. My Dinc was S-off, but not my Rezound. I found with my Dinc, that changing the radio rarely helped me, and usually made reception worse. The reason for posting the radio separately are for those want the upgraded radio without adding any of the rest of the OTA update, or without having to return to stock. If you are s-off, you can just run this in Hboot and get the new radio. But it's definitely not for anyone who doesn't know what they are doing, and you won't usually find help if you don't. I understand the annoyance, by Po1soNNN, but still no need to be jerk about it. We all learned from someone else at some point.

the name of the thread is radio updating guide. There are tons of these "guides" if the topic had just included a link to radios I wouldn't have cared but 90% of the thread is radio updating while a measly 10% are the new radios.

Many, many thanks!! I had an inkling that that's what the radios were, but I couldn't find any straightforward answers when I searched. Thank you for answering my questions without having the urge to talk down to me. It's much appreciated, and always refreshing to encounter someone on XDA who isn't hellbent on making me cry because I don't have the coveted title of "Senior Member".

I'm sorry for getting out of hand. It's just I get a little mad when people don't search its the first rule in the list of rules but then again I broke a rule myself: "treat members the way you want to be treated" and I'm sorry for that.

Thank you, and I apologize for coming across as a troll. The only thing I'd like to point out, is if you'll look at my profile, you'll see I've been around XDA for awhile now, but have very few posts. That's due to me following the rules, and doing as much research as possible before I resort to asking for help. I think we can both agree that modding HTC phones is a wee-bit more difficult than some of the others. This is my first HTC phone, and it's been completely new territory for me. I only ask questions when I feel I haven't found the answers I was looking for while independently scouring the forums.

Wow I kinda do the same. I dont post alot because most threads become troll threads before I can help people in them and I'd rather stay out of the fire so I don't post and let it drag me in. Firmware is a very broad term that includes radios, hboot and a few other miscellaneous files.

Yes this is only the radio

You're breaking XDA rules. This question has been answered in several different threads over the last 3 months and is answered in depth in my q AND a thread. Noting how many new threads you've started on subjects I've covered there tells me you didn't even look at it. Please stop opening new threads and just go to where the answers are.

PLEASE use English! I think you're telling me to leave you be to post threads machine gun-style and just let it be... but I'm not gonna. I'll explain why. You're creating a problem here. Ideally, there would be one question and one thread with one answer or more cogent answers. But guys like you post the SAME thread again and again and it makes searching for that answer really hard because there's now all this garbage out there to sort through. Your phrasing of a question or issue hardly simplifies that problem.
Don't think I'm being a real prick. I'm trying to save someone else a headache down the road. If I wanted to be a prick, I'd collect up the last 4 threads you posted, PM them to a mod, and ask that something be done to somehow hinder your ability to litter the forums.... since beginning new threads pointlessly is very frowned upon and against all XDA rules on posting.
I'm giving you the straight scoop because I deal with some of the people who end up confused or can't find what they're looking for because of junk threads like this. That's all.

Maybe is he like Radio in the movie Radio, which is why he is posting useless threads.
When you do a Backup, will that backup your radio as well?
So If I flashed a new radio, and a new Rom, and I later reverted to an older backup, would my radio revert to the backup one?
Backup does not backup your radio, no, and it's especially important to know what you're doing when flashing them since a bad radio flash is pretty much the only thing that can hose your phone.
I think this question has been answered (here and elsewhere), so this thread is closed.

How do I go back to stock?

Hey guys! Long story short, I unlocked, rooted and installed Clockwork as my recovery and it kept hanging when I was trying to do a backup.
I got frustrated and impatient so I just flashed CleanRom without doing a backup first. I love CleanRom and all, but if I wanted, can I go back to stock now that I don't have a backup?
Any info would be appreciated, thanks!
What is your definition of stock? Unrooted? Relocked? Untouched rom? Somemore information would be helpful to guide you in the right direction.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
If you want to go back to stock. Relock your phone and grab the RUU. It will put you back from whence you came.
Uber :facepalm
First and foremost read THIS from beginning to end. Stop posting questions in the Dev section...despite how special you think you are...you're not. Post in general or maybe searching is a great idea.
If you want a stock ROM here. To go back to complete stock you need to relock the phone and flash the latest RUU IIRC...

People posting in wrong sections and asking questions that have been asked about a million times get's very annoying. Have at it if that is what YOU want...if the OP would've used the search function, he/she would've found what they were looking for.
If you guys want to continue to baby people and spoon feed information to them then knock yourself out. If you post a new thread non-development thread in a development thread be prepared.
Jesus H. Christ on a pogostick, people. A "Development" forum isn't just for the Devs. It's also for people using the fruits of the devs' labors. Sometimes, they have questions. If they didn't, they'd probably be developing on their own, and XDA wouldn't need to exist. Sure, using search is advisable, dare I say it, recommended. But there is no reason to get nasty.
I've been a part of XDA since WinMo 5, and I left for a long time due to nastiness like this. I'm no developer. I just use what gets made, and I'm damn grateful for it. But there a reason XDA is slowly seeing a mass exodus to RootzWiki: Less (but still existent) dickery. Yes, what the devs do is a courtesy to the community. No, they shouldn't have to answer the sane questions repeatedly. The search doesn't always cut it, and it isn't always used. Wouldn't it just be easier to either quickly answer and encourage search usage politely or to quote and respond with a link to the relevant post? Even better yet, those of us that aren't devs but are at least semi-knowledgeable could give our service to the board and aid the devs by politely answering in their stead. Novel frickin idea.

I didn't just be a **** and exit the thread as I have seen quite a bit on this particular forum. Do you realize more than half the time the Devs aren't the ones answering the repeated questions?
Anyway..you guys can continue to cuddle each others nuts and babysit one another and provide no help to the OP.

As is stated, do not post your questions in development forum. Before you start a new thread ask yourself this: "is what I'm posting a rom or a kernel?" or "is this a guide for development?"
If it is none of those, then post it in another forum.

Please Help HTC Amaze Failed Flash

Hello,
I gave my phone to a friend who rooted my HTC Amaze 4G and installed a Blue Rom, I believe which is called Team Win Recover Project v2.0.0
It worked for a couple of days I tried charging the phone and it seems to not want to hold a charge. I used a HTC Sensation 4g battery and the device came on but it will not boot. When I put the HTC Amaze 4g battery in the HTC Sensation 4g phone it shows up as charging.
I lost the original sd card so I believe I lost part of the rom.
I just want to get back to a stock rom how the phone was before the root.
I have no idea what to do but I am technologically inclined so if anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it, I however am going to search the forums on what to do.
thank you,

I love you GlacierGuy. Hit the nail on the head.
To the OP, here is about all the help you need: (and you still need to find your own answers)
You're using the wrong recovery, or at least not the one I think most people here use: are you sure you have an amaze? If so, some guy named glacier something posted a very good thread about a really great recovery(there's a big hint!)
Finding the original RUU might be a little harder, but the guy who posts them is named Football. If you read his signature is has a link to all his leaks - find the one called ruby(our phone) and if you want gingerbread then download and install one of the ones NOT uploaded recently - and do what glacier said, and search for HOW to install it(hint, if you try to just flash it without reading it either won't work, or you'll end up with a messed up phone).
So there, now you have an idea on WHAT to look for - but you still gotta go do the legwork yourself(just like every single person here who has an awesome phone with awesome-sauce2.0+ running on it!)
If you seemed like you did SOME research before posting I would give you credit, it isn't EASY to find the answers - but that is mainly because so many people ask questions rather than doing the research themselves FIRST.

I'm MUCH more inclined to help someone if they have already accomplished SOMETHING that says they can follow basic instructions(installed the leak, got s-off, something) or they did SOME sort of research.. but most of the time if I give any kind of answer it is JUST to keep there from being another thread that asks a question with no answer. Those are what makes searching a pain in the ass for me at least!

I want to revert back to the stock ROM of the Amaze. How do I do that?

The link associated with this FAQ is not working for me. Is it just me?

Thanks for the link.
I guess I made a bad attempt at trying to help. I just wanted to bring attention to the link attached in that thread. I could not access it.
I'll have never completely understood why it is that people on this forum have to act as though they are being put out by others posting questions. Yeah..yeah..yeah.. Search the forum... Read the post you idiot.. Don't post without reading...etc. etc.. etc...
Regardless of how stupid you may believe I am... It does not change that fact that the link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335703) attached to the thread:"FAQ for the HTC Amaze 4G. Read Frequently Asked Questions before you post a question! / Q - I want to revert back to the stock ROM of the Amaze. How do I do that?" does not work.
Instead of jacking with me because you think I am not capable of finding info... why not use that energy to fully read my post and help fix the problem. I was just trying to help others that search the forum. Sorry that bothers you.
I post in other forums and help/try-to-help others. I never talk down to them. I direct them to the answers they seek. If I do not have anything worthwhile to add to their post...I just leave it alone. Everyone is new at some point... And everyone needs a hand up at some point... Help...or don't help. Anything else is wasting time. It's just that simple.
Why not use the energy u spent in writing that short story into using google?

Do you want to go completely stock, or flash a stock Rom and keep root? I can't post link from my phone, but in dev section there is a list of rooted and deodexed completely stock roms. Hope this helps. Just flash like a custom Rom from recovery.

You need to calm down and chill, the links in that thread may be broken, but there's also a reason why we have the bible thread with EVERYTHING possible included. Therefore, simply search there and you'd not have the need to worry about broken links. I'll talk to Hasoon about fixing the links, my point being, your rant wasn't needed since it's pretty obvious now for someone that's been around the block to not know the basics of finding things around here.

You're not a n00b, can we let this go please? Some people get frustrated seeing the same thing being posted again and again, that's why most users will post a rude response, though I wouldn't say GG was rude, it didn't even seem to be directed at anyone in specific, anyways, my point is, the bible thread was created to lessen questions being asked and also simplify the doing of everything that's currently possible on this device, so you can't really be mad at anyone responding in a blank manner either. But on the other hand, just let it go, try to read around, if you find a broken link or so, post it in the relevant thread and if you think the OP is a nice enough individual to accept a PM, then shoot them a PM and sort it out that way, no need to get hostile, okay? Great, so take relax and have fun, this place is a pretty quiet easy going group, join in the fun and just don't take things personal.

I've seen mixed feelings about the switch, in my group, some prefer their nexus, some sold theirs, some kept both, which half of them used the nexus more, so it's bit of an iffy situation, to be honest, I love my nexus, this one is better than the first one I got, so I just may stick to it, though if given the opportunity to swap, I will try out the s3 knowing I could always swap it back since someone will want one.

[Q] Tutorial for complete beginners

How about a tutorial for complete beginners as regards rooting and flashing Roms? I mean from the ground up including an explanation of different terminology such as..... :- Insecure ROM.....that means there must be a secure ROM, what's the difference and why and when are they used?
Stock ROM....as opposed to what? and what are the advantages/disadvantages of using either?
Same with Kernels, there seem to be so many to choose from........why would I want to choose a paricular one over another?
I find that in the available tutorials, so much is already taken for granted...I for one don't fully understand most of the terms used, and I think that sometimes this makes the following of instructions more difficult because a question is raised in my mind that isn't answered so I'm a bit nervous about carrying on..I'm sure there are qute a few users out there who would like to get their hands dirty, but are reluctant to do so because they feel that even the so called tutorials for beginners are difficult to follow.
This by no means a criticism of these tutorials, which I'm sure are easy to follow by those with the required level of knowledge, but there are some of us who need a more explanatory text.
I am talking about the galaxy s2 gt 19100 in particular. The suggested post deals with an HTC phone, which, while being an android device, has its own peculiarities, making it different to deal with than the sgs2.
I know I could probably google all the answers to my questions, but, as I read somewhere, if we could google everything we needed, forums would be redundant.
So, how about it guys?
Go on xD !
After all there is nothing wrong in trying to help! There are already lots in here but most seem to be obsolete as people don't even answer doubts there ! So if you can write one up and maintain it then good !
Yep that's the key. If you're going to do it, you have to be prepared to keep it up to date/maintain it & be prepared to answer every single question that gets asked. Otherwise it just ends up getting lost/buried/out of date like all the others.
Feel free to do it yourself. There are too many models and roms etc to group things together.

Nah ...... don't mind just bad old me !
I'm not sure what's happening here but it appears that the erstwhile student is now being asked to take on the mantle of tutor. A strange turn of events if ever there was one. How can I, a mere person asking for instruction, guidance and knowledge, assume a position at the front of the class, and teach those from whom I thought I would receive such wisdom?
................either that or your too lazy to do it yourself.

All the guides you're asking about are out there. If you have difficulty understanding a term or phrase, then look it up.
How did you get through any amount of school with this kind of an attitude?

I sat in class and listened and was taughtby my teachers!
I can't remember any of them telling me to go to the local library because everything I needed to learn was there if I could be bothered to go and look for it............which would have rendered them redundant!

That's a poor analogy.
What you're asking for is for someone to come up with a lesson plan that uses much simpler terms because you can't understand the one that already exists.
Classes in school have pre-requisites. You can't take Calculus right away. You have to take Algebra, then Geometry, etc., before you can move to Calculus.
What you're asking for is for someone to come up with a "Calculus for Dummies" guide because you're too lazy to go learn Algebra and Geometry first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1826497
Those are pretty easy-to-follow guides, just read the guides again if you didn't understand them the first time

I take your point, although I wouldn't admit to being lazy per se, I just need shoving in the right direction. And yes, I realise I need to to start at the bottom first, and that's what I was asking for (bad english). I need a crash course in the basics, not a dummies guide in calculus.
