Archos Gen8 firmware 1.0.84 ? - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi people !
As lot of clever people now try to pucsh Gen8 to ICS , i would like to know if someone kept the old Eclair firmware ?
It is not available anymore from Archos site and i would like to have, thanks SDE, on my 101 IT :
Stock Eclair
UrukDroid Froyo
OpenAOS Gingerbread
I love having the choice lol !
Thanks !

Lucky you, I still have it on my fileserver. I'm uploading right now... stay tuned :good:

Thanks a million chrulri ! and btw congrats for the work you provide to keep our device on track !
Unfortunatly no way to downgrade ... it works well with 2.x (Froyo) firmware but not 1.x . (error 221)
And i doubt someone will try to make it possible as the tendences is more on giva access of higher OSes ... not lower ones !

It doesn't even work after full reformat?

Nope ... full format, install angstrom and then finally try reformat and install eclair ... error 221

Well then it's kinda hopeless on the easy road.
But you still could go the hardcore road and extract the squashfs root filesystem, the kernel and the initramfs from the .aos file and use the SDE to install them if you really really want Eclair to run on your device :silly:

Beg you pardon ?
OK ... a quick look on google shows that even extracty an aos is complicated (both tools didnot extract the same thing)
I will first weight if i can give enough time to go the hard way for maybe a poor result and then try to not brick my device ...
Thanks again chrulri ! and keep going you do it the right way !

OK i got a cooked .tgz file that contained squasfs-root folder. ... now i guess the zImage file i need is the one in raw folder named init-zImage .... i don't know where i can find/build initramfs.
I'm a rookie so if someone could drive me a bit on how to build files to make it bootable with a multiboot (kboot seems to be the best option as it can use different iniramfs and Zimage for each Oses)

just saw that my comment was ereased
i didnt have succes because i didnt tryed it
i wanted to make a dump of the dutch rom but is already on the site
so i thiought a dump wassnt nesecary any more
Hi, i got a dutch Iolite and right now i am trying to find out how to swap to an english ROM. But somehow it is quite difficult to find kind of a step-by-step explanation in this board.
I guess before trying any kind of flashing action i should first dump the ROM I have installed, to go back in any case.
So i downloaded those ITSutils but procread just crashes with a 'RAPI.dll was not found" error. Well, i will check for that later in the board, but in general... What should i do to dump the ROM?
I am supposed to plug it to a pc via usb? If so, using which drivers? Do i need to open that windows mobile cd i got with the phone?
Because if i would not need it, i would keep it closed until I decided wether to keep the phone (in english) or to sell it again when it has to stay in dutch.
Thanks for any help, because I really did not find what i was looking for within the wiki or that board so far. thanks
I find this topic very confusung too! :-/
For maybe being of help for other people:
- the RAPI.dll not found error is gone, when Active Sync 4.5 is installed at the host-computer, then there are also no further drivers needed
- smartphone has to be attached via usb in the activesync mode
The thing is this:
Nobody explains that right!!!!!!
Sorry maybe i'm a fool!!!!
I think is more easy wait a original ROM upgrade from HTC......
Eduardo
The real interresting question here must be; how to backup / dump my existing ROM to .nbh?
That way it wouldent be so scary to try the different custom roms here, and allso it would be very easy to share our ROM's.
Dump it to RAW, then use "Visual EviusKitchen" - ExtraButtons - Raw2NBH
Dumping programm: HERE
Kitchen U find in forum too, must use sefu
Greetings

I don't see the reason for creating this thread unnecessarily when your exactly same post has been answered here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=672234&page=8
I am quoting the reply below (again exactly from the same thread!) by Lesscro
"1 - Hello
2 - Use original ROM...
3 - There is real "ROM" as you say... but only build developpement...
And there is no final version actually on Android... no need to search better configuration...
Wait for final and stable versionof ToshDroid...
My Advise...
See ya..."
You could follow the same thread where you are most likely to get more responses rather than this new thread! I think it won't be beneficial for anyone who tries to search for some information to look into 450 different threads if everyone started to post their questions as individual thread rather than addressing it in the correct thread!
*MODS* Is it possible to not have this thread any more!? (unless you see it useful in any other way!)

you can easily download it from ms server

but it's not a whole file it's diff file...
what a disappointing...
you need original file and use some magic to change it to new updated file
so I did some magic for you ^^;;
analyze the diff file...
compare original file and updated file...(from old build)...
... blah blah blah...
so on and on and on...
Abracadabra!!
here is the file!!(#Attachment)
you can put it to any 7392 build ROM and cook it...
BUT!!
There is also NK and ULDR update file but i don't know how to update NK or ULDR partition;;;
it works without those files but there are some concern...i think...
I'm still working on building NK and ULDR image file...
if you know any source or information about it plz tell me!!
AND!!
many of you ask me if I can make 7401 build, how about 7661 Mango?
yeap! I made those files but it is not working;;;(can't pass boot screen)
maybe NK and ULDR is the problem.. I don't know for certain...
Enjoy Cooking~!
So can you upload those mango files as well?
Have you tried testing that build on DFT mango rom? if it boots 7592 maybe it can boot 7661..
(10 chars)
i really wish i could be of more help but i am an absolute noob. where could i learn to be a developer? what did you guys study to know all this stuff? i really wanted to contribute more to the community...

VM env. for Stock ROM and Mod

Hi,
I'm currently woring on creating a complete VM and a document with instraction of getting from compile to flahsing from begining.
The complete enviroment will be set and ready with the Stock ROM (currently targeting 4.0.2.A.0.58) and the Android OS.
This will allow users to be able to take this VM and start right a away to change the Stock ROM and integrate changes for that from other modes.
will update this thread when it's done. and links for download (unless someone will be faster the me )
18/12 Update:
Just now finish creating an working and compiling enviroment with 2.3.4_r1 of Android
now working on making it to work with the Sony Ericson source code...
Regards,
LaBBa.
Hi,
I need a little help here... i have followed the steps in Google:
http://source.android.com/source/initializing.html
and also the Journal:
http://journal.tianhao.info/2010/12/compile-android-gingerbread-on-ubuntu-10-10/
i have compiled the code and got it up and running and also in emulator with the command line that was written in the Journal and the Android is working..
now i try to understand the Sony Ericson guide:
http://developer.sonyericsson.com/wp/2011/05/06/how-to-build-a-linux-kernel/
I have downloaded the ARM cross-compiler and installed it, was really bad instructions on how to install it. but just need to run: sh ./the_downloaded.bin
and installed it correctly
after installing the ARM cross-compiler successfully done a make to the kernel but only after fixing the symbolic link that from some reason was attach to 0x86 arch and not arm.
the paths where different since i used the default installer path and match the same version that they used: 2010q1
so first done this for the .config :
ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=~/CodeSourcery/Sourcery_G++_Lite/bin/arm-none-linux-gnueabi- make semc_zeus_defconfig
Click to collapse
then run the make:
ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=~/CodeSourcery/Sourcery_G++_Lite/bin/arm-none-linux-gnueabi- make
Click to collapse
now i got kernel compiled!
the question is:
i know that with the Android compiling i got 3 files in the /source_android/out/target/product/generic:
1. ramdisk.img
2. system.img
3. userdata.img
do i need to use the ramdisk from the Android for the next steps of SE guide ?
1. Getting a RAM disk and extract it
2. Re-package it with all of the kernel of SE that we just compiled
3. Assembling the boot.img using the mkbootimg
moreover, after i assemble the files i want to make a really clean installation and cleaning all the flash and installing all in a vanilla mod.
what should be the next steps ?
Regards,
LaBBa.
I thought that the community here will help in this small matter so we will have more pepole that could join the efforts of making brtter and cooller roms... I guess I was wrong. All I wanted to do is help the dev community and create the full step by step guide to starting developers in the android world....
Sadly I'm forced to end this thread due to lake of knowledge...
Sent from my R800i using XDA App

im sorry i would help but i dont know much lol srry no one that knew could or would help
hi,
I hope that you are able to get this working.
i will use it when it is finished
Edit: what have you exactly done?
Maybe i can help
all i wanted to do is to download all the source codes and compile it and then creat the same version (for this case the .58) manually and get to the same images that need to be flahed.
i wanted to create from this a complete tut that others that have allot of knowladge in development could start working without the stragling of setting up an eviroment or all the issues about how to get from compiling to acctuall creating an .img to flash it on your device.
just a simple "out of the box" solution so pepole could get and work right a way without wasting time in assembling the source codes and setting then env.
ok, and where are you?
I mean what have you done for now??
please see the second post.. it's all there..
yes you need that ramdisk for the kernel.
but you need to edit the ramdisk to work with the xperia play.
i can do that, can you upload it??
what i'm going to do now is, i'm going to upload all the VM to the web and write the complete tutrial for all the steps i have done so far and then we could continue. thank you for trying to help!
ok,
if you need some help PM me!

[Q] Kocaso M1050S compatibility pack for CM10

Hello community!
I'm looking for help to build a Kocaso M1050S compatibility pack for CM10 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1821398).
It should be a recovery based zip mod, but I'm not sure how to build it.
I've downloaded an original firmware from here: dl [dot] dropbox [dot] com/u/22474333/Kocaso_M1050S_Softwinners_Crane-bc1003_ICS_4.0.4_ENG_Build_%2318_Firmware.img and works just fine. Now I'm looking a way of running Christian Troy CM10 port on it. The port works itself, but the touchscreen doesn't responds at all. So seems like I need to apply a correct drivers there. I've unpacked original firmware and included all required files from it (script.fex, complete modules and etc directory, idc and icu, /lib/hw). I guess that is enough to build the patch for it. Here is the smaller archive for these files, so you don't have to download the complete firmware: www [dot] multiupload [dot] nl/A4WUIS15D3
Could somebody please help to build a recovery patch from these files?
EDIT: Oh, and here is the init.sun4i.rc from firmware: pastebin [dot] com/qNguiS75
Couldn't find much on this tablet. I would also like to do the same as you. My wife won this tablet at an arcade and think it would be a pretty decent unit if it didn't run so slow. Did you manage to find anything out? I'm going to look around myself. I've been doing AOKP builds, I might sync up Troys and mess around with it this week.
No info still. I don't have an experience in building the compatibility patches. But it should be doable with files I've provided and someone who can do it.

Kocaso M1050S the .img link is broken. I will be grateful if you able to provide me with correct one. and another question: how did you install CWM recovery. thx in advance.
Same here, haven't had time to try and mess with it. I'm going to download a pack and see whats done in there. I'm going to switch into Ubuntu in a few and try and sync with CT's git as well.
I installed CWM 6.0.1.2 using this tutorial :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802268
It seems to work so far. It reads my SD card and I was able to perform a backup. I've done nothing else at all with it yet so i'm not sure if it's really working properly but so far my device is still working fine.

Also I got the files you are looking for from another site.
Google this exactly :
MID_M1050s(chinese) bricked at android screen
As i'm unsure if outside links are ok here. It should be the first result. It's posted further down the thread.
Right, here is the new download link for firmware: docs.google.com/folder/d/0B_88d7OJP9HPWWEwejlSQkQ0X2s/edit
